Stupid move by me… but why not put off those tasks a bit longer and post about cookies?
I must confess, I kind of love using cake mix to make baked goods other than cakes. It feels so innovative when, in actuality, it’s probably just lazy. But is is fun and having fun is the best part of baking, right?
Okay, after eating dough, having fun is the best part of baking.
When I made snickerdoodle cake mix cookies on Sunday, I immediately had an idea when I saw the way the cookies looked when they came out of the oven.
They were splitting and crinkly looking… perfect for classic chocolate crinkle cookies!
Would you believe me if I told you I’ve never actually had a chocolate crinkle cookie? It’s true! So I cannot say that these are perfect chocolate crinkle cookies, but if chocolate crinkle cookies are supposed to taste like brownie cookies, these babies are legit.
Chocolate Crinkle Cake Mix Cookies
Ingredients:
- 1 box Devil’s Food cake mix
- 1/4 cup canola oil
- 2 large eggs
- Powdered sugar for garnish
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees and spray cookie sheet with cooking spray or line with parchment paper.
- Combine cake mix, oil and eggs in a large bowl and mix with a wooden spoon until everything is combined.
- Pour powdered sugar into a small bowl.
- Roll cookie dough into balls and roll around in bowl of powdered sugar until they are coated in a thin layer of the sugar.
- Place dough balls on cookie sheet and bake for approximately 12 minutes.
- Cool and enjoy.
I made these cookies to fill a tin to send to one of my girlfriends who I picked for Secret Santa. I’m pretty sure she’s going to know it’s me now, but I’m pretty awful with secrets anyway, so it was only a matter of time.
Surprise!
Why does powdered sugar make every look pretty? I’d be down to have those as a secret santa gift!! Such a creative way to use a typical, cheap ingredient like cake mix, and make something fabulous. Two thumbs up!
i think the same thing about powdered sugar. whenever i sprinkle it on something simple like french toast, it automatically feels fancy!
Wow, this recipe is so simple and looks so delicious! I’ll be trying it out ASAP!
Feel free to mail any extras to me 🙂
I love crinkle cookies!! That’s a cute Santa tin too.
I have never had crinkle cookies but am seeing them everywhere, might need to make a batch. Love your easy recipe!
Those look so delicious! We used to make a similar cookie when we were younger, and it also had chopped walnuts in them.
these look yummy! i just made a red velvet version of these last week. i actually linked them to your cookie link up! 🙂
You can use this exact recipe and roll a Rolo in the middle. They create the the tastiest cookies and are something different.
Yuuum!!!! I tried to make crinkle cookies , here but it is waaay too hot here….I ended up with cookie puddles…..:(
I’m definitely going to try these cookies! They look delicious.
I love the powdered sugar affect, way better than normal chocolate cookies (if that’s even possible…)
I love that you added the PIN IT button because I immediately pinned it when I saw the cookie!! YUM!!!!!!!!!
hey Julie – do you remember about how many this made? thanks 🙂
i think it was right around two dozen.
thank you thank you 🙂
Hey Dana! I made these cookies last night and counted 35 🙂
Wow, thank you!
ha! apparently i eat a lot of dough. 🙂
Brownie cookies?! Yes, please! I got some of these for the Great Food Blogger Cookie Exchange, but they were crispy instead of gooey. I’m a bigger fan of gooey chewy goodness. 😀
ironically made these from scratch last night, wish i had known to use cake mix. it was also my 1st time having them; they taste a lot like brownies! very yummy!
Those are so pretty, they’d make a great gift!
These cookies look so delicious! I love that they are really simple to make and only require a few ingredients. Adding these to my list to bake this weekend! 🙂
Wow imagine these babies a la mode!
OMG I swear my roommate made these exact same cookies earlier this week for a work potluck!! They are awesome
Omg I need to try making these! I love them!
I love the simplicity of your recipes that you post. Efficiency at its finest 😉
Wow this made my life so much easier – i was planning on making these tomorrow anyway and was going to have to wake up early to make the dough since in the traditional recipe you have to let the dough sit in the freezer for 4-6 hours…. i will just use your version now 🙂
I made those last week for a cookie contest at work, but pushed a candy cane Hershey’s kiss in the middle when they came out of the oven. They were amazingly easy (and I won)!
I’ve never had crinkle cookies either, but I do LOVE brownie cookies.. these look so thick and chewy!
PRETTY!! These look awesome. Your SS is going to love you for sure, NOW. Hah.
I love cake mix anything–makes it easy and moist. Delish.
Cake mix makes the absolute best cookies. They are easy to make…the only problem is they become highly addictive! These are my favorite http://blogitness.wordpress.com/2011/12/03/cake-cookies-a-serious-addiction/
These look so pretty! I bet they would be great with a little bit of mint extract or crushed up peppermints in them too.
you take such pretty pictures! look delicious!
yum!! they look great!!
I won’t lie..I love the idea of cake mix cookies too! It makes cookie baking so so easy and they always turn out so delicious!
THESE cookies look ah-mazing especially! Just yesterday I was at panera bread and bought one of their crinkle cookies (if you buy lunch their you get any bakery item for 99 cents, so why not?!) and it was so so good! It actually had mint flavored powdered sugar on top..I’m not sure how you would do that but gosh it was delish!
I’ve never made cookies using a box cake mix. I really need to pick some up though because they’re perfect for those nights when you want a cookie so badly but don’t have the patience or time to make them from scratch 🙂
I made these yesterday for a work party!! Except (thanks to Pinterest, obvi) I stuffed them with rolos, peanut butter cups, and mint thins for little surprises on the inside! so delicious!
i’ve never heard of chocolate crinkle cookies but they look delicious!!
I just made chocolate crinkle cookies (also called snow caps) for the first time the other week too and was so impressed with how good they came out! I added peppermint extract (idea from Eating Bender) and chopped up Hershey’s Candy Cane Kisses. They were so good and gone before I knew it!
I love cake batter cookies. I can’t wait to try this with a gluten free cake mix! 🙂
im going to take a stab at this one…moderation and regular exercise? for the win?
people are so silly, lol
I want to know why you don’t weigh 500 lbs with all these cookies and goodies you make all the time.
I am so gonna make these tonight! I was trying to think of what I could make this weekend to take to a party……Now I know!
They were amazing! I had the biggest sweet tooth today and when I saw this recipe I had to make them!
I always put off pain in the butt tasks. Just refer to me when I’m scrambling around on Friday mornings trying to get papers graded to go home in “Friday Folders”.
I really am craving chocolatey goodness now~oh no. It looks delicious!~ And I always love those cute little tins from the store.
These look delicious! I have never a chocolate crinkle cookie buta brownie tasting cookie rolled in powdered sugar sounds AMAZING!
What a great and easy way to make cookies! I’ve never thought to use cake mix for cookies!
Oh they really look delicious!
Ooo these look great! And they remind me of these chocolate gooey butter cookies I always make that I got from Paula Deen. I made them 2 days ago actually! It’s just a box of Devil’s food cake mix, 8 ounces of cream cheese, and a stick of butter (topped with powdered sugar). OMG sooo good! Clearly, yours are healthier though ha!
looking at all those cookies this early in the morning. not a good idea. haha. they all look so good!
I’m not a big fan of cake… but these cookies intrigue me! Are they more cake-y or more like a traditional cookie?
more brownie like than anything!
I made these today, they are yummy!!! 🙂
I made these, but added some peppermint extract! Thanks for the recipe!
Yum!! I love using cake mixes as a shortcut to cookies – they always turn out incredible. BTW, thanks for linking my cookies yesterday!
