Hellooo October!
I know a bunch of you out there are just as pumped as I am for this festive fall month. Bring on the cooler weather (if you don’t live in Florida), the changing leaves (if you don’t live in Florida) and the pumpkins (hallelujah, we have those)!
A quick glance at my calendar reveals that there is a lot to look forward to this month!
In chronological order:
- Ryan’s 30th birthday (This Saturday!!!)
- Terry & Janelle’s wedding in New Jersey
- Gettysburg with my family to visit my grandmothers
- Race for the Cure 5K
- Merri & Pete’s wedding in Sarasota
- Three year wedding anniversary
- Halloween
Though most of the upcoming events have been on my calendar for quite some time, the trip to Gettysburg popped up last minute and we just booked our flights last night. My grandma Mimi (the grandmother who makes the best sugar cookies in the world) is having some health concerns and my mom, dad, sister and I are planning a short visit to see her and my other grandma during this gorgeous time of year in Pennsylvania.
I was able to sneak a trip to Gettysburg in last year on the tail end of my trip to Baltimore for FitBloggin’ and am excited to return again this year. It’s a beautiful town and I’m more than ready for some quality time with my grandmothers.
But this weekend it’s off to New Jersey for a wedding! Ryan is the best man in Terry and Janelle’s wedding (on his 30th birthday!) and we’re arriving in New Brunswick early on Friday. I love traveling and I love weddings, so I am really looking forward to our time in New Jersey.
Workout
My first October workout took me to the gym at 5 a.m. for a leg workout that focused on heavier weights and drop sets. It was challenging and I have a feeling I am going to be quite sore tomorrow.
Breakfast
Breakfast this morning was similar to yesterday’s morning meal but incorporated more color!
Scrambled eggs + Chicken sausage + Sweet peppers + Broccoli
Served with an apple on the side.
Now it’s off to work! Tomorrow is the launch of the Livestrong program at our gym so there’s lots to do today!
Question of the Morning
- What is one thing you’re looking forward to in October?

I live in New Brunswick!!! You’ll have a great time, there’s a ton of great restaurants 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
Any breakfast or lunch recommendations? We have dinner covered thanks to the rehearsal dinner and wedding, but I’d love to explore the area a little bit if time permits.
Robin says
Stuff Yer Face for lunch. It’s on the Rutgers University Campus. Go RU!
Amanda says
Old Man Rafferty’s is great for a Sunday Brunch, if you’ll still be in town by then. If not Hansel & Griddle has some fun breakfast options.
Destination Dogs is a super fun lunch spot (crazy hot dogs!!). Same with Harvest Moon Brewery, if you’d like to try some of the local beers! There’s also a Brother Jimmy’s BBQ (a chain but still delicious!).
Tressa says
After almost three years of reading your blog, I’ll be meeting you at Janelle and Terry’s wedding! Wild! I agree with the above…Old Man Rafferty’s for brunch or Harvest Moon Brewery for lunch. If you want an RU hot spot, Stuff Yer Face is where it’s at. Evelyn’s is a Mediterranean restaurant with the cutest outdoor patio-excellent light meal options. In our hotel, the Glass Room Tavern has the most amazing lobster mac and cheese (hopefully it will be around for our Sunday morning brunch ’cause I can’t stop thinking about it!) I can go on and on…but until then, we’ll meet on Friday!
Renee Tatarek says
It sounds like October is going to be a busy month for everyone!
Out in NYC for a co-workers birthday this weekend…
Then, a good friend from MN visits the following weekend…
I’m off to D.C. the following weekend to meet my best friend from MN and run a quick 5K race {through a cemetary….ahhhh!}…
And then the last weekend of October will be spent in Boston with my husband!
Best month ever 🙂

Amanda says
what kind of boots are those you are wearing in the pic with your grandmother? im looking for some new brown ones!
Becca says
I actually have a question for you. I was wondering if you would be willing to talk more about food. I am really good at working out and burning lots of calories…but I suck at eating healthy all the time. (20 minute lunches at school make it hard to have healthy choices sometimes). Can you share some insight as to how you keep track of what you’re eating. Do you count calories? Use My Fitness Pal? Or are you lucky enough that you don’t really worry much about it right now? Thanks 🙂
casie says
My grandma is going to visit in a few weeks, camping, the color run in Ventura, and I will have to hit up some oktober fests. Ooh, we can’t forget Halloween, this will be my first Halloween in my new house 😉

Julie, I know you will be all tied up with wedding festivities in New Brunswick, but I am from the area and if you and Ryan get some time, PLEASE make a pit stop at Old Man Rafferty’s for their dessert menu. I wish I could recommend one dessert to you, but every single item on that menu is lip-smackingly delicious! I hope you guys can stop there!

Wow, you have a busy fun month ahead! Ryan gets a whole wedding around his birthday 😉 hehe; wishing your Granny’s health improves, and you’ve got a romantic 3 yr anniversary to plan 😉 whoohoo
We’ve just started Spring here in South Africa in September, so October is about the roses and flowers all blooming in their glory. The aroma of jasmine, hmn… and the beauty of the roses.
The one thing I’m looking forward to? It’s my birthday later this month 😉 Doesn’t matter how much older we get, it’s just a number and I feel a decade younger anyway, hee hee (turning 43). Why do I enjoy the day so much? Hearing from all and sundry, local/overseas and out of every corner 😉
Have an awesome month!
