Check out my hot pink compression sleeves!
(Did they distract you from the hot mess of hair on the top of my head? No? Maaaybe I’ll brush my hair and put on some makeup before snapping a pic next time. Maaaybe.)
A thoughtful woman who works with my dad and reads the blog gave the compression sleeves to me to try after reading about my soreness following the Savannah Rock ‘n’ Roll half marathon. According to my dad, she’s an amazing triathlete and swears by the compression sleeves as a means to increase oxygen blood flow to the muscles of the lower leg, helping them to recover faster.
She’s also running in the Women’s Half Marathon tomorrow!
I slipped on the sleeves this morning before heading out with Ryan for a little exercise. I didn’t want to work out at all today since I have the big race tomorrow, so I hopped on my dad’s bike and pedaled alongside Ryan as he ran a little more than two miles with Sadie.
Yes, that was a crazy hard picture to take!
After their run, we walked with Sadie for another 15 minutes or so before heading inside for breakfast.
Breakfast included two fried eggs, toast with a bit of butter and jelly and Canadian bacon. Deeelish!
Today’s plans include a hair cut for me and then Ryan, my sister and I are going to head over to the Women’s Half Marathon race expo to pick up my race bib and other goodies. My sister wants to sign up for the 5K race tomorrow as well!
See ya after lunch!
(Also, if you have experience using compression sleeves, I’d love to hear your thoughts!)
Khushboo says
I’m not familiar at all with compression socks so I am curious whether they make a difference to your soreness tomorrow.
Brittany @ GOtheXtraMile says
Love those!! The hot pink is adorable, I’d totally rock those too. Have fun at the expo and good luck tomorrow!:)
peanutbutterfingers says
i was definitely a little TOO excited about the hot pink color. 🙂
Liz says
I looove my compression sleeves! I just bought them a few weeks ago but I slipped them on after I finished the NYC marathon and wore them for 48 hours straight, basically. Whenever people ask me how they feel, all I can say is “they make everything feel safe.” Does that make sense?
PS – mine are blue, and now I want hot pink!
peanutbutterfingers says
totally does! i feel like they make my legs feel more secure or something.
Laura @ LauraLikesDesign says
Are compression sleeves hard to get on and off?
peanutbutterfingers says
they’re tight, but mine slipped on and off fairly easily.
Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie says
Your compression sleeves are cute!! Have the best time at the marathon, that’s so exciting your sister wants to run!
Diana says
I’ve been thinking about picking up a pair of compression sleeves – I do pretty much nothing in the recovery area and want to still be able to walk by the time I’m 30! Are you planning on wearing them for the race tomorrow? If so, report back!
And anything that comes in hot pink is a pretty easy sell for me! 🙂
Katie says
I started wearing them after a bout of shin splints. I swear by them – I wear them while I am actually running though. Wonder after your post if I should just wear them after a run? Can’t wait to hear what you think of them! Good luck tomorrow! Your 2nd 1/2 in less than a month… amazing!
kathleen @ the daily crumb says
Good luck tomorrow, Julie!! I don’t need compression sleeves but would wear those super cute pink ones just because they are amazing looking 🙂
Yacine says
Oh wow, your pictures always make me want to move somewhere where the grass is still green, the sky is blue and you can wear short sleeves without freezing to death!
Good luck for the race tomorrow!!
Lindsay @ In Sweetness and In Health says
LOVE the hot pink color!! And damn girl, your arms look fabulously toned! I probably would have fallen off my bike trying to take that picture haha. Good luck with your race tomorrow pretty lady 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
hey, thanks! but i’m pretty sure it’s only because they’re flexed since i’m trying to hold up sadie. 🙂
Silvia @ skinny jeans food says
Dear Julie, you know I love you to pieces but those running shorts that end almost between your knees…. Hmm….. I am not sure if it is a deliberate fashion statement but you might be in for a pair of lululemon speed shorts!!
Unfortunately, they don’t come in hot pink 🙁 best running shorts ever.

Silvia @ skinny jeans food says
And yes, I please want your arms! (are you still doing body pump?)
Sharan says
I actually have both Nike Tempos (what Julie is wearing in the picture) AND Lulu speed shorts, and I have to say that i much prefer the Nikes. I feel a lot more comfortable in them because they’re not as short. 🙂
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
You’ll be easy to spot during the race! 🙂 Good luck!
SkinnyRunner says
i think they definitely help with recovering AFTER the workout. but then again, i want a full body compression bodysuit so maybe im just on the bandwagon.
peanutbutterfingers says
no lie, when i put them on i instantly thought to myself, “i’m like skinnyrunner!”
Jamily says
I kept getting shin splints while running. I started using compression sleeves and they helped so much. I’ve never used them for races or long distance but they are a great support.
Claire says
I’ve never used compression sleeves but they look pretty badass! You will have to let us know how they work for you! Sadie looks so happy for “family time” haha. Her pink leash is pretty adorable, too! I shall have you know I did two of your past workouts and can barely sit today!!!
Bee Goes Bananas says
Those compression sleeves look amazing! Do they really work? I’ve never used them before. I’ve never run further than 10k, so I don’t know if it’d be worth it to get some.
Good luck with your race tomorrow! 🙂
Lisa says
I have hot pink compression socks too and I loooooove them! I don’t wear them for running though since I’m not a distance runner. I do, however, wear them to work since I’m on my feet all day. And i’ve definitely noticed that my calves aren’t sore at all the day after a 12 hour shift!
Erica @ For the Sake of Cake says
You could be SkinnyRunner’s twin in those babies! 🙂
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Excellent choice of colour on the compression sleeves! 😉 I don’t have any experience with them but I’ve heard good things. Good luck tomorrow!! 🙂
Heather@Just a Colorado Gal says
I just posted on compression gear yesterday! I bought my first pair of socks awhile ago and love them, but now I’m curious about sleeves, wrist sleeves, etc. I feel like I’ve noticed a big improvement in lack of soreness too, so I’m thinking I’m sold!
Stephy says
Julie, whatever you are doings during your workouts, particularly with your arms, keep doing it! They look amazing! I think I should invest in those compression sleeves, calves are aching from teaching classes. Thanks for sharing 🙂
Courtney says
Woah look at your guns! You can definitely tell you’ve been upping the weights!! You look great girl 🙂
Becca B says
I LOVE my compression sleeves. they feel like a giant bear hug, but on your legs. sometimes after I do a long run, I will wear them under my slacks at work just because they feel awesome and speed up the recovery process all at the same time! glad you are trying them out, they are great.
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
LOVE them – the hot pink is so cute! You pull it off well with your shoes and shorts too! 😉 I’ve never used compression sleeves before, so I’m curious if you notice a difference.
Samantha Owen says
I’ve been curious about compression sleeves since I can get some serious shin splints, so I can’t wait to hear how they worked for you!!
& is Ryan wearing those toe shoes in that picture? Just wondering lol. They look like them, my SIL has a pair.
Sara says
I LOVE my compression sleeves, have a pair I race in and a pair for after a race, I don’t get sore like before after long runs!
Hillary says
A lot of my friends have had good experiences with compression sleeves, and I think I’m going to have to give them a shot, too. Interested to hear what you think!
Kristen @ notsodomesticated says
I’m curious to hear your opinion on them, because I was thinking about getting a pair. Please keep us updated! 🙂
Kristen @ Chocolate Covered Kristen says
I wear the full socks as opposed to just the sleeves since I tend to get soreness in my feet. I think they help on really long runs…. plus they make you look super serious and hardcore 😉
Tichina says
I’ve never heard of compression sleeves, they sound awesome though! P.s. thought I would let ya know that I can totally noticed a difference in your arms, your free style workouts in Ocala are paying off! girl 🙂

I SWEAR by compression sleeves! I plan to wear them during my first Ironman next weekend. I usually run with them on and then put on a different pair for recovery and sleep with them for a night.

love the hot pink ones!! They look good on ya! 😉
You have been lifting weights–totally obvious–looks good!!
Veronica says
Julie, You Look Amazing And I’m Glad You like the color.
They are several brands, I started with this brand until I get use to. I really want to heard your feedback and maybe next time you try compression socks…:-) trust me I can give u a full review of all brands but the main thing is that they work.
Good luck tomorrow!!
Charlie The Runner Beans says
Good luck in your half marathon tomorrow!! I am running my first ever 5K and I am so nervous. I think the compression sleeves look cool, love them in hot pink! Are you going to run in them or just wear them after?
peanutbutterfingers says
probably just wear them after the race!
Heather says
Julie! Holy cow you look amazing! Your arms look fantastic. You can tell you’ve been working hard. And that pink looks fantastic on you. Good luck in the race! I just love your blog. Excited to hear if the compression sleeves help you!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
I’ve been pretty curious about compression sleeves, so I’ll be interesting to see your opinion on them!
Nicole says
I started wearing a compression sleeve during all my workouts after my physical therapist recommended it for reducing soreness in my calf, which I tore last year. I find that the sleeve definitely helps! (though mine isn’t as fun as yours – it’s just plain black!) Good luck in your race tomorrow!!
Amber K says
My husband walked by when I was opening up blogs to read and he saw yours and said “WHOA those are pink.” And I replied “Yes, they are, they are awesome.” lol
peanutbutterfingers says
glad we’re on the same page 🙂
Brandi @ The Vitamin Bee says
LOVE the hot pink!
I always use compression socks. I switched from sleeves to socks during marathon training. They really help with fatigue and they keep my calves warm which is great because they always cramp. They’ve also helped me with injuries I’ve had (tendinitis and other tears) so I’m a big fan.
Tracy @ Tracy's Treats says
I’ve never tried compression sleeves, but I’ve always wanted to! I like how yours match your shoes!
Margy says
Oh I have barefoot runners and they always kill my calves for a week after a long run. I wonder if these would help!
heather says
I wear and sell compression socks for running skirts. I love their compression socks! I race and recover in them and they help my legs so much. Not to mention they are super cute!
olivia says
Compression sleeves definitely help! Even while you’re running. I love yours and you look so cute!
Sarah @ SarahFit says
I have the same exact compression sleeves! I wore them to both the Chicago and NYC Urbanathlon. They helped me and they also helped my friends spot me on the course! Weather or not they help flush the lactic acid, they did not hurt and were fun to wear 🙂
