The weather is unbelievably gorgeous today and I felt so at peace on my run, even with my ‘90s music blasting on my iPod.
One song that made me smile? My Baby by Lil’ Romeo. When I was younger, I actually went to a Lil’ Romeo concert with a bunch of my girlfriends at the House of Blues. It’s crazy to me that Lil’ Romeo is now just Romeo and he’s 22!
That song made me think back to other concerts I’ve attended over the years as I ran:
- Green Day, Blink 182, Kid Rock
- Dave Matthews Band
- OAR
- Lil’ Romeo
- Ben Folds
- Bon Jovi
- Destiny’s Child
- Brooks & Dunn (x2!), Keith Urban
- Straight No Chaser
- Journey
The best concerts of the bunch in my eyes were Bon Jovi and Straight No Chaser. So good!
One concert I’ve always wanted to see? U2! My parents went a couple of years ago and said it was absolutely amazing.
All this concert talk reminds me that I really need to create a new playlist for Saturday’s half marathon!
Lunch
Lunch today was one of my favorites.
Tuna salad on a wheat bagel, served with carrot sticks and the largest Honeycrisp apple known to man.
Sadie didn’t leave my side for a second as I ate my tuna salad. At least someone likes the smell of that stuff!
Questions of the Afternoon
- What was the first concert you ever attended?
- What was the best concert you ever attended?
Khushboo says
The first concert I went to was amazing: Nelly, 3LW and Destiny’s Child all in one! The best concert I went to is a toss-up between that, a JayZ and a Kanye West concert….great memories! I’ve been reading a lot lately that ipods are banned in races- just a heads up!
Hope says
The first concert I went to a Nickeloden All That Music and More Festival to see 98 Degrees. I was obsessed especially with Jeff Timmons. Hmm..the best concert is a tough one. I would have to say it’s a toss up between Michael Buble and Aaron Lewis acoustic show (the lead singer from the band Staind).
I’ve seen Bon Jovi in concert too. They were awesome! 🙂
Alaina says
I LOVE going to concerts. My first one was Backstreet Boys in 1998.
Since then I’ve seen:
Backstreet Boys (x a million)
‘N Sync twice
Barenaked Ladies
Matchbox 20 (with Maroon 5 when they were just starting out)
Ozzfest
Disturbed twice
92 Pro FM Jingle Mingle twice
NKOTBSB
Chicago
Straight No Chaser
Guster
Billy Joel by himself and with Elton John
peanutbutterfingers says
i would LOVE to see billy joel & elton john!
Rachel says
first concert i ever attended was whitney houston with my dad!! and best concert i ever attended was Kenny Chesney/Zac Brown Band this past summer!! I’m also going to the Watch The Throne tour Thursday which should be epic.
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
My first concert was Back Street Boys concert—and it was awesome!! (in HS)
I’ve been to a few others–and I really want to see U2 as well!! Their concerts are awesome, I’ve heard.
I love tuna!! Mmmmmmm hate the smell, love the stuff. haha.
Kat @ balance and spice says
The first concert (outside of classical recitals with my parents) was Jingle Ball, a huge pop concert that hosted all the stars of the day (we’re talking Ricky Martin, Christina Aguilaira, et al.) It was wild and fun.
The best concert I ever went to was Madeleine Peyroux, a fabulous jazz singer who sounds just like Billie Holiday (highly recommended, if you’ve never heard of her.)
Have a great day, Julie!
Caroline says
I just saw Madeleine Peyroux this fall! I’m a fan, but I think she was kind of off that night- she kept apologizing. My first concert was Ricky Martin (I was so proud of him when he came out!), and the best was a Carbon Leaf holiday concert I saw last winter. 🙂
Kat Reiner says
I know, I felt so proud of him too. What’s Carbon Leaf? I like the name!
Caroline says
They’re amazing! They’re a sort of indie folk group from Virginia.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmMbrXypXJU
The’re a ton of fun live. 🙂
Chelsey @ Puzzled Thoughts says
My first concert was The Moffatts…LOL a Canadian boy band group consisting of all brothers. They are just as lame as they sound but my mom got my sisters and I tickets for free from work!
The best concert I’ve been to was Katy Perry – she puts on a SHOW! So entertaining and so much fun!!!
Mary Babicki says
First concert: Garth Brooks
Best concert: Barenaked Ladies/Alanis Morissette
Your tuna salad looks delish!
peanutbutterfingers says
you saw alanis!?!? jealous.
Ellie says
The first concert I ever attended was Alan Jackson when I was like 6 years old. 🙂 But more recently we saw Carrie Underwood. It was amazing! Gotta love Carrie!!!!
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
I saw U2 this summer! It was amazing and my favourite concert to date!! I am very jealous of all your concerts though! Especially the destinys child…. 🙂
Kaycee says
Green Day is awesome! I heard that they’re really good live. When do you go see them? I used to be obsessed with the lead singer, Billie Joe Armstrong, haha. I’ve never been to a Green Day concert before (though I’ve seen American Idiot on Broadway, where Billie guest starred) but I love them! Blink 182 also brings back really good memories. Oh childhood..
peanutbutterfingers says
i saw them in high school – they were great!
Jennifer says
First concert: New Kids on the Block
Best concert: GARTH BROOKS!
Dawn @ Blonde on a Mission says
The first concert I ever attended was Dierks Bentley at the Strawberry Festival in Plant City, Fl and the best concert I’ve ever been to was Keith Urban this summer! He put on an amazing show, and I’m also in love with his australian accent 🙂
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
You have a great list of concerts there! I honestly haven’t been to a ton of concerts in my day, but my two favorites were Goo Goo Dolls and Brad Paisley. I’ve also been to Faith Hill & Tim McGraw, Rascal Flatts, Jack Johnson, Amy Grant, David Crowder Band, Switchfoot, and Taylor Swift. (I have a wide range of music I listen to!) All of them were great concerts, but Goo Goo Dolls and Brad Paisley were easily my favorites.
Anne @strawberryjampackedlife says
Brad Paisley puts on such an awesome show! He is so freaking talented.
Anne @strawberryjampackedlife says
My first concert was Sheryl Crowe, and I think one of the best concerts was Sister Hazel at a small auditorium at DePauw University. By the way, I totally copied most of your playlist from your “Half Marathon Playlist” last night. The good news? I already had at least half of the songs! 😀
Tara @ Chip Chip Hooray says
First concert: …Jackson Browne. With my parents. At least I admit it! Hahah. To qualify:
First concert I went to that I wanted to go to: *N Sync. Yeaaah!
Best concert I’ve ever been to: Goo Goo Dolls. They came to my college freshman year and I lined up two hours early–I was right up against the barrier (it was a standing room concert) and I aaaaalmost caught Johnny Rzeznik’s guitar pick. Fabulous.
Gabby Bladdick says
LOVE My Baby by Lil Romeo. Too funny! Takes me back to my childhood 🙂
First concert: Beach Boys with my grandparents – they even had beach balls!
Best concert: Jack’s Mannequin in St. Louis at The Pageant. The venue only holds about 200 people and I was in the 4th row – it was aamzing.
Lindsey @ Happy or Hungry says
I LOVE going to concerts. My fave would be Jack Johnson or Neil Young I think, but I have been to tons:
Weezer
Incubus

Len
Bruce Springsteen
Big Wreck
Broken Social Scene
Metric
City & Colour
I Mother Earth
Blink 182

Our Lady Peace
The Tea Party
Treble Charger
Sugar Ray (haha)

I think there is more but I will stop now because I feel obnoxious. But I love concerts!!!!
Kaycee says
wow i’m so jealous of your excellent list of concerts! i’ve only been to 2 in my entire life 🙁
Laura @ Backstage Balance says
This is an awesome list of shows! I’ve seen many of the same artists – and I’m also LOL’ing over the Sugar Ray, Bif Naked, Silverchair mentions.
I feel like concerts in the late 90s / early 2000s were so different than how concerts are today! Support on commercial radio was a lot different and the radio festival type shows where you could literally see 15 bands in one day, just don’t happen as frequently anymore.
Lindsey @ Happy or Hungry says
So true! Late 90s/early 2000s was definitely the best time for festival-type concerts. There is still a radio station near me that holds a festival once a year, but I haven’t been in a few years now that I am getting older 😉 that’s totally where I saw Bif Naked, Hole and Silverchair. Ah, good times.
Beth says
My first concert was with my dad at a Chili Festival. His coworker played in his dad’s band. I was backstage with Rusty Weir and all of these Texas and Nashville country music legends and I had no idea who they were until a few years ago! And to think, I was complaining the whole time that my dad wouldn’t let me have a soda. That was my main issue at the ripe old age of 10.
Best concert is White Tie Affair! Their CD sucks…they’re actually better live! They do a rock version of the rap song “Got Money” that blows my mind.
Kate says
NSYNC first. My friends and I were in 9th grade and were in awe!
My favorite recently has probably been Kenny Chesney. He’s a great performer and I always like his songs even more when they’re sung live. Such energy!
sue says
OK, I’m going to show my age here! My first concert was The Grass Roots in about 1969 or 70 in Ocean City, MD. The best was Hall and Oates in the early 80s.
Brittany @ GOtheXtraMile says
MY first concert was Dixie Chicks I’m pretty sure. I also went to NSYNC, and Green Day back in the day.
The best concert was Taylor Swift a few years ago for her fearless tour. She is an awesome performer and super entertaining!
Will you post your half marathon playlist once you make it?
Danielle says
I was at that Lil Romeo concert at HOB! Small world. My first concert was Hanson at TD Waterhouse and best concert was Kings of Leon in Miami.
Mary Beth says
Ben Folds puts on a pretty great show! (I’ve seen him 3 times now.) And I just saw Straight No Chaser last week – I have to agree, AWESOME! First concert, though, was Backstreet Boys. Ah, the age of the boy band.
peanutbutterfingers says
ahhh! i saw him too! totally forgot to include him! updating the post now.
Andrea @ Andrea Out Loud! says
awww the memories!
my first concert ever was destiny’s child…for real! I cant even remember how old I was, maybe 12? 13?
Annie says
I haven’t been to many concerts but my first one and the best was Romeo and Juliet ! absolutely amazing!
I’d LOVE to see U2, they are my must-see too!
Rebecca @ Miss Magnolia Munches & Moves says
My first concert was Reba McIntire when I was in the 3rd grade. I will never forget the red sequin dress she wore during “Fancy”! I thought she was so glamourous. The best was Elton John at Ceasar’s in Vegas.
Rebeka says
Ohh man my first ever concert was the Backstreet Boys with my mom. I was so cool. Ha!
My favorite was probably kings of leon before they got all huge, or Peal Jam (who are amazing).
I’ve heard Dave Mathews is amazing. He plays in Washington ever year and I’ve always kind of wanted to go. Also he lives just a few blocks from me in Seattle. I want to go wait outside his house. Is that creepy? Maybe I shouldn’t. Ha!
Also, Your lunch looks SO tasty! And I’m jealous of your weather – it was like 36 degrees this morning in Seattle and my windows needed to have the ice scraped off of them for the first time this year. Blah.
Dana says
First concert I ever attended – I think Don McLean? Of Bye Bye, Miss American Pie fame.
Truthfully, at this point, I’ve seen Elton John, Billy Joel, Bon Jovi, and even a Beatle (Paul McCartney) but the 2 U2 shows I attended blew the rest out of the water. Hands down worth the hundreds of dollars.
Casey @ Pocket Full of Sunshine says
I’ve been to a bunch—Britney Spears being my fave :), and Keith Urban was completely amazing too! Every time I leave a guy concert, I wind up completely in love with whoever it is by the end. Keith Urban was definitely no exception!
Faith @ For the Health of It says
So jealous that you got to see OAR – Shattered is such a great song! I’ve been to some really awesome shows…Sick Puppies and Saving Abel have been my favorites but I cant really think of a single one that I didn’t enjoy.
Lindsey says
I think the first concert I attended was Nickelback when I was 18. The best was Justin Timberlake! He put on a great show which I loved, oh and he plays the piano!
Hillary says
First concert: Mariah Carey. With my mom. I was 13 : )
Best concert: Probably Coldplay. I’ve seen them twice, and they put on such an incredible visual show; it’s nonstop intense lights and sounds for two and a half hours. So cool.
Linda says
I love concerts. My first was the Beach Boys! My most recent concert was U2 over the summer. It was a great concert. I think my 2 favorites were Garth Brooks and Simon and Garfunkle.
Laura @ Backstage Balance says
I was really excited to see the title of this post and read through! You’ve been some fun shows.
I work in the concert business and feel lucky to go to concerts ALL THE TIME – several times a week for the past couple months. The best concert I’ve ever seen was with David Byrne from The Talking Heads, here at the venue where my office is located. A close second would be Lady Gaga on her Monster Ball Tour, which was last fall. The show was at an arena but felt a lot more intimate, despite the huge production, lighting and set!
The first concert I ever went to was Live (the band with “Lightning Crashes,”) with Veruca Salt and PJ Harvey. Are those 90s artists, or what? 🙂
Jihane @Sinful Sundays says
Wow. You guys are a hardcore. I’ve only been to one concert–Christina Aguilera. It was okay.
Ruthie Hart says
HANSON!
Nicole @ Giraffelegs says
The first concert I ever attended was Pat Benetar with my mom, but the best concert was Nsync wohooo throwback!
Liz says
First concert – Captain & Tenille
Best concert – Paul McCartney (all FOUR times! :D)
I’ve also seen:
The Police
Bob Dylan
REO Speedwagon
Third Eye Blind/Vertical Horizon
Adam Lambert
A couple seasons of the American Idol tours
Main ones I’d still like to see – Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John and Billy Joel, Aerosmith
peanutbutterfingers says
so jealous you saw the police!
Liz says
It was back in ’07 when they did a tour. I saw them at Churchill Downs in Kentucky & it was pretty awesome 😀
Cyndie says
Best concert would probably be when I saw Radiohead in Sao Paulo. It was the first time they toured in South American and there were like 40,000 people there. It was insane and amazing.
But I am going to see Blind Pilot perform this month at one of my fave venues and that could seriously top Radiohead.
Michelle @ Crazy*Running*Legs says
First concert — Sting with my parents when I was 8 (we were in the 10th row, floor seats – I just remember the floor vibrating!).
Best concert – Coldplay. Awesome, awesome, awesome performers. Chris Martin is SO hot when he performs (and I really don’t typically find him attractive). I’ve seen them twice and I will play lots of money to see them again!
Colleen @ The Lunchbox Diaries says
Hanson was my first concert! 🙂 The Rolling Stones was probably one of the best.
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
My first concert was the Chicago B96 Summer Bash (I forget what year? Maybe 2000?).
But hands-down my BEST concert was Bon Iver just a couple months ago. SO.FREAKING.GOOD!!
peanutbutterfingers says
oh my goshhh! i remember b96! you make me miss living in palatine!
mindy @ just a one girl revolution. says
I’ve attended over 100 concerts! My first was the Backstreet Boys in 1998 and the best…that’s hard. U2 is amazing, for sure (I saw them for the first time this summer). Keith Urban and Taylor Swift are high on the list, too.
I don’t know that it’s the BEST per say, but one of my favorites was the NKOTBSB tour this summer. So fun to see two of my favorites from growing up share a stage. Okay, let’s be honest. They’re both still two of my favorites.
Ty says
I can’t remember which came first… Randy Travis or Third Eye Blind. Either way, I was pretty young and dragged along by my mom. (Although now Third Eye Blind is one of my all-time favorite bands and I’m sad I didn’t appreciate the show more!)
The first concert I ever chose to go to was Good Charlotte. O.O
And the best concert I have ever been to was definitely The XX. SUCH an amazing show. And I met Matthew Gray Gubler (Dr. Reid from Criminal Minds) there!
Something Corporate was also a good show. And Jimmy Eat World… Both times.
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
I actually never went to a concert until college! My parents aren’t concert people and my friends just never wanted to see anyone I guess! My first concert was a small private concert with Corey Smith (who most people haven’t heard of since he only plays in the south). Best concert? ABBA cover band!!! My best friend and I have seen them twice at the Red Rock Amphitheater outside of denver and it was AMAZING! Our plan is to go as often as we can for the rest of our lives. There will be matching bedazzled t-shirts involved.
Athena @ Fitness & Feta says
First Concert: No Doubt
Best Concert: I’ve seen U2 and they are definitely up there! Justin Timberlake was pretty awesome too 🙂
Rebecca W. says
My first concert was a Josh Groban concert a few years back (can you believe it? 25 years old and it took me almost 21 years to see a legit concert!). I loved it!
I also saw Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers last summer and LOVED them. The fans are awesome!
This past summer I saw NKOTBSB and my junior high school self was dancing and singing and jumping with glee! I had the most amazing time!
Concerts I’d like to go to? Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Elton John, and Simon and Garfunkel! I swear, I was born in the wrong decade… 🙂
Cheryl says
It’s interesting how different everyone’s music tastes are.
First concert: Boy George – my friend was a huge fan
Best ‘concert’ – Tooth and Nail record label tour
Jessi B says
The two best concerts I’ve ever been to are:
1. Billy Idol. No comparison. That man was BORN to perform. And still smokin’ hot, not matter how old he is!
2. Foo Fighters. No lie, they forced the guy who plays all the random instruments to do a triangle solo when the went around and introduced the band, and that solo got as much appaluse as the whole band did at the end of the concert. I was beyond impressed.
