I bake for a lot of reasons.
I bake for people I love. I bake to exercise my creative juices in the kitchen. I bake out of boredom. I bake to relax. But most often I bake because I want to eat dough.
Ain’t so shame in the game!
This afternoon, I baked up a batch of muesli cookies, not bothering to do any real research into other people’s attempts at muesli cookies.
I made a dough using the usual cookie dough ingredients of butter, brown sugar, eggs, vanilla, salt and baking soda. I didn’t have any flour, so I ground up oatmeal in the food processor to serve as flour, figuring that it would make a great substitute.
The dough was fantastic!
The cookies…
Well, they crumbled. They held together as I removed them from the cookie sheet, but the moment I went to pick one up to eat, it crumbled in my hand.
Cookie fail.
At least cookie crumbles are delicious!
The cookies also served a purpose. They acted as fuel for an afternoon walk with Sadie.
Today has been quite dreary in Orlando and I think the weather made us feel extra lazy. After Ryan got back from soccer and I returned from spending too much money on fennel, we changed into our comfy clothes and have been bummin’ it ever since.
After eating several cookies, we got our butts out of the house for two walks with Sadie and a trip to Chipotle for our third Mexican meal of the weekend.
We shared a burrito since they’re the size of a small child and I wasn’t that hungry because I’ve been so snacky all day. We also split an order of chips with guacamole.
Then we came home and Ryan turned on the Super Bowl for our own little Super Bowl party for three (can’t forget Sadie)!
Off to watch the half time show!

Haha baking fails can be kind of awesome because they give you a reason to keep all of it for yourself. At least it still tastes good, right? I also like to leave a half-cookie sized chunk of dough for myself at the end of the baking process. I don’t feel as bad eating it if it wasn’t big enough to be a cookie anyway 🙂
Liz (Little Bitty Bakes) says
Oh, I thought of you earlier because I was at Walmart Supercenter and they had leeks for $2.48 — sold in bunches of 3?
I bet cookie crumbles would be great over yogurt 🙂
Liz (Little Bitty Bakes) says
I meant fennel, btw 🙂
Laura says
im loving that these cookies crumbled
Sara (Miles and Manhattan) says
Ohh that burrito looks amazing! We had our own little party too, didn’t feel like the pomp and circumstance of the usual football stuff!!

I would eat those cookie crumbles over oatmeal in the morning definitely…and in my yogurt for lunch….and on top of my frozen yogurt for bedtime snack! So many options Julie 🙂
What did you think of the halftime show? I loved the BEP’s and their special guests too. I want Fergie’s legs! The glowing shapes those dancers made on the field was really cool too!
Amanda- The Nutritionist Reviews says
Yum! That burrito looks so good. That’s good that your cookies taste good even though they are crumbly.
Katy (The Singing Runner) says
Cookie crumbles still sound good. 😉 Put them on oatmeal or yogurt! 🙂
(Oh, and I have that Gator clip too!)
Taryn says
I baked your flourless PB cookies today for the hubby (mostly because I wanted dough)! I ate my weight PLUS SOME in dough, then had cheesecake for desert during the game;-) It’s been a snacky day!
Bethany @ More Fruit Please says
I guess that’s the way the cookie crumbles! At least the dough was good! Have you had Starbuck’s muesli bread that comes in their protein pack? It’s so good, but I haven’t been able to find a recipe anywhere for anything similar. Bread intimidates me, so I haven’t been brave enough to experiment on my own yet.
Jessica says
I’ll take cookies in any form…whole, crumbled, etc.
Lisa (Dishes of Mrs. Fish) says
I’m on a Mexican kick too. I had two Mexican themed dishes on my menu plan last week, and two this week. 🙂
*Andrea* says

Candice says
I’m glad I’m not the only one with a baking flop today.. I tried making a oatmeal coconut cake that did not turn out as expected… Oh well! Not bad but not as sweet a I was wanting..
We are loving Mexican food this week to;)
Michelle says
Maybe if you threw some fennel in those cookies??
courtney @ the granola chronicles says
Even if those cookies were crumbly, I’m craving some now!
Heather (Heather's Dish) says
nate and i usually split a burrito and chips and guac at chipotle anyway…it’s so delicious!
Nathan Miller says
Yes, I attempted to make the recipe for Nabisco’s Chewy Chocolate chip cookies today for our super bowl party and they turned out so flat they only had one side 😉 and a alot sort of fell apart but everyone loved them and said they tasted alot like Nabisco’s cookies! All well that ends well!
Annette says
I would eat those crumbles over oatmeal, in yogurt, atop ice cream or fro yo, or as part of meatloaf?! You could try any of those and see what happens! Glad to hear I’m not the only one who fails in the kitchen…. 😉
jennyv says
Cookie crumbles in ICE CREAM would be the best option in my humble opinion 🙂
Mexican x 3 sounds like something my husband & I would do 🙂 Love chips and salsa (and guac)
Kiran says
Crumble or not, these look delish! I love Chipotle 🙂
Allison@ Happy Tales says
Cookie dough, in any form, is always amazing. And cookie crumbles are pretty good, too…
Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter says
Sounds like a perfect day in my opinion. I was CRAVING Mexican today and actually went to Qdoba, but I do like chipotle a bit better.
Grace @ YourDailyGrace says
My boyfriend is obsessed with Chipotle and would probably eat it for every meal if he could. This means I eat a lot of Chipotle salads which is okay since they’re always yummy. I also think they put crack, or maybe it’s lime, on their chips, they’re delicious!
Carrie says
ahhaaha as long as they taste good.. thats all that matters! ahh i love chipotle!! they opened thh first one over here in the UK, but its NOT Tht same at all.. 🙁
Gen says
Well, you know, with cookie crumbles its a lot easier to sprinkle some over oatmeal in the mornings! =D
Hope ya’ll had a good time yesterday!
Marina says
I think cookie crumbles are great for topping breakfast or snacks 🙂
At least the dough was great 🙂
Mhm, mexican. I think I’ll make some for tomorrow night!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
I’m far more of a cook than a baker, and I’d say about 65% of my baking attempts (at least!) end up as fails. Ah well, even though they may not be the most presentable baked goods, they’re still tasty! 🙂 Hope you enjoyed the game!
Jamie says
My cookies ALWAYS fall apart… I use it as an excuse to throw some crumbles in yogurt and eat cookies for breakfast.. 🙂
Haleigh says
Baking is really a form of relaxation for me, especially breaking bread. I could knead the bread all day long.
Haleigh says
haha yeah that’d be baking not breaking, although I also love to break off a good piece of bread and dip it in some butter or olive oil 😉
Colleen @ The Lunchbox Diaries says
At least the cookies looked pretty! I hate when I have a baking mishap, but it still never stops me from eating the dough and/or crumbled cookies or cakes 🙂
Alyssa @ Life of bLyss says
Museli cookies, le gourmet chef samples, grocery store samples, AND three mexican meals in a row… you ARE awesome. 😉
…even though you made me really, really want some Moe’s for dinner tonight. gosh, Julie!
Emily says
why even bother baking the cookies? it’s all about the dough.
Maria Bjørg Jepsen says
That is SO cute 🙂
It is the first time I experience someone who actually ADMITS that baking is all about eating the divine dough. It is the exact same reason for me, ha ha. What can I say – the dough just tastes SO MUCH better and more intense than the baked result!
Angela says
I am definitely a dough monster when it comes to baking. I almost hate baking muffins or cupcakes because all the dough goes into the oven right away and I don’t have an excuse to eat half of it while the rest bakes. I eat gluten free and have had the crumbly problem many, many, MANY times! The solution: add a tiny bit (as in 1/4 tsp) of xantham gum to a regular sized batch of cookie dough. Add too much and it turns out, literally, like gum! But just a bit helps everything stay nicely together 🙂
