For today’s blog post, I am switching gears and sharing a throwback style blog post with you. Way back in 2013, I shared a Currently-themed blog post on PBF that highlighted some recently things I’m enjoying, reading, wearing, doing, etc. I’ve sporadically shared similar blog posts in this space every year since and wanted to pop in with my latest Currently post today! If you feel like playing along, I’d love to read about some of your current interests, awesome finds, reads, eats and more in the comments section of this post!

Currently Laughing About: Chase and Ryder’s DIY haircuts.
On Sunday afternoon, I was feeding Rhett and Ryan was making lunch for everyone while Chase and Ryder played together. When I was done nursing, I walked by our master bedroom and saw the door was closed which was very odd. When I opened it, I heard a lot of giggling and shuffling around and noticed chunks of hair on the ground before two very guilty looking boys emerged.
Chase then said, “Mom! Ryder cut his hair!” Yeah. I think you did, too, Buddy.
Chase and Ryder apparently grabbed Ryan’s trimmers from our bathroom counter and gave themselves quite the new ‘dos. I burst out laughing when I saw them and immediately called for Ryan. We then tried our best to keep it together as we told the boys trimming their own hair is not safe or okay but keeping laughter at bay while Ryan buzzed Ryder’s hair into an epic mullet for 5 minutes before he buzzed the rest of his head was not easy.
As Chase repeatedly said, “Don’t worry! It will grow back!” I’m just grateful we don’t have picture day or anything important coming up on the agenda so their hair will hopefully be back to looking normal in a few weeks. Ryder ended up with a buzz cut while we were able to comb and style Chase’s over the chunk of hair he took out of the middle of his scalp.
These crazy kids!
Current “Swipe Up” Favorite: Okay, okay, I fell for every influencer’s holiday gift guide favorite… The Barefoot Dreams throw blanket. I adore all of my other Barefoot Dreams finds (their socks are worth every penny and my wintertime favorites) and have even gifted the Barefoot Dreams blanket to loved ones before but I finally bought one for our family when it was on super sale over the holidays. (Tip: Nordstrom Rack often has it in stock for waaay cheaper! Some are in stock now but they sell out FAST.) Holy cow does it ever live up to the hype. I’m not sure what makes it so awesome but I think it’s some combination of the incredibly soft and cozy fabric and the perfect weight of the blanket that will make it appropriate to have draped over our couch year-round. Even the boys love this blanket and always want to snuggle up under it when we read stories together.
Currently Reading: This Time Next Year by Sophie Cousens. I saw this book recommended by Jessica and thought it sounded cute! It piqued my interest again when Amazon said it was similar to One Day in December, a novel I absolutely loved when I read it two years ago. This Time Next Year reads like a chick flick but without some of the depth I loved from One Day In December. It’s good if you’re looking for a light, breezy read but I would not say it’s a must-read.
Currently Considering: Potty training Ryder.
With the boys out of school until the beginning of February, I feel like this is a great window to just take the plunge. I can’t say I’m looking forward to this one but Ryder does seem ready, so hopefully it will be relatively smooth sailing. Maybe? Hopefully? Ah! I’m planning to follow the same methods we used for Chase from the Oh Crap Potty Training book.
Currently Drinking: Homemade decaf lattes, tea lattes, hot chocolate and sparkling water.
Most of my days include some combination of three of these drinks. I really enjoy fun beverages and theses are some of my favorites! And for those who have asked before, my favorite decaf coffee is Thrive Market‘s organic decaf. I’ve been drinking this most mornings for 2+ years and it’s great.
Currently Wearing: Athleisure, oversize sweaters, alllll the comfy clothes, sneakers and cozy boots. One recent discovery? Beyond Yoga Midi High-Waist Leggings!
Last fall, I received a pair of Beyond Yoga leggings (in gray) in a Stitch Fix delivery and the material and fit was so fabulous that I became an instant fan. My mom gave me another pair for Christmas (in black) and I’m truly living in them! The minute they come out of the laundry, I put them on again. I swear they’re as comfortable as lululemon align leggings (yes, really!) but the material is slightly thicker and a little more flattering. They’re perfect for workouts but still absolutely comfy enough to lounge in all day long. They don’t dig into your body at all but still have a streamlined look and the quality is fantastic.
Currently Listening To: A lot of Elton John. I grew up listening to Elton John and love his music so much. Something about it also feels like the perfect post-holidays music to me. I looove listening to Christmas music non-stop around the holidays and feel a little bummed when it’s all done. Elton John’s music is easy to listen to, nostalgic and the perfect mix of upbeat and chill.
Currently Watching: Schitt’s Creek. Ryan and I are slowly making our way through this show and it’s so hilarious! Episodes are short (20ish minutes) so we love watching one or two when we’re in the mood to laugh after the boys are in bed.
Currently Exercising: Three times a week. I miss the gym. I miss boot camp. And man oh man do I miss gym childcare for a little 45 minute break of “me time” during the day… Buuut I’m giving myself a ton of grace because there is no part of me that’s willing to sacrifice morning sleep for a workout every day when our nighttime sleep is still pretty awful. Three workouts a week feel manageable to me and they’re almost all 30-minute strength workouts from @trainerpaige‘s postpartum program. I’m actually wrapping up the program soon and am oddly looking forward to formatting some of my own workouts again!
Currently Scheduling: An appointment to get Rhett checked for a posterior tongue tie. Rhett’s reflux is getting easier from a screaming baby standpoint, but he’s still spitting up continually and I’m hoping for some answers… if there are answers to be found! A friend of mine who is a speech language pathologist highly recommended getting Rhett checked for a posterior tongue tie, as we have a history of tongue tie in our family (Chase had a bad one) and this can be linked to reflux even if breastfeeding is going well and is pain free. Though we had Rhett checked in the hospital and by his pediatrician, apparently tongue and lip ties can be hard to diagnose and specialists are often needed to really get to the bottom of any issues. I’m in the process of calling around to schedule an appointment, though many specialists in our area are seriously busy and backed up! We have an appointment on the calendar for February but I’m crossing my fingers something will open up sooner.

Oh no! Is the magic suit not working? And I thought your boys were out of preschool for two weeks…so sorry if it was extended! My preschooler has been out for two weeks and I can’t wait to get back on the school schedule! People magazine’s book of the week is What Could Be Saved and it looks really good!
Julie says
We learned on Friday that their break was extended until early February because of Covid concerns in the area. Annnnd the magic suit is working well for daytime sleep (serious game changer during the day) but night time sleep is still rough, as he’s still waking up a ton. He’s not screaming when he’s up thankfully but it’s just draining to be up every so frequently in the night. And thanks for the book recommendation!!
Amy says
Dairy allergy with baby rhett? Seems to be the spit up problem with soooo many babies. Might need to cut out of your diet?
Julie says
Tried that early on and our pediatrician also doesn’t believe that is his issue. I know that seems to work for a lot of moms/babies though!
Debbie says
Currently NOT Drinking Alcohol 🙂 But give me all the sparkling water and tons of tea lattes thanks to you! lol Yogi has a Honey Chai Turmeric Tea that is delicious for them with a sprinkle of cinnamon.
Julie says
Oh that sounds wonderful!!
Amber says
Currently Watching – Reign – after watching Bridgerton, this one popped up on my Netflix to watch.
Currently Wearing – all the leggings and big sweaters/shirts. at 6 months pregnant I need comfy and soft! Oversized sweaters from American Eagle (from the sale rack) have been my go to!
Nikki Clark says
If Rhett is not unhappy, he might just be a kid that spits up a lot. All three of my kids spit up A LOT! So many burp cloths and clothes changes… But, they nursed well and gained weight. It may just be a laundry problem and not anything else! But, I do not miss it. I had to warn everyone who held my kids that they may end up covered…
Emily says
I was just coming here to say the same thing! My daughter (now 15 months) spit up ALL THE TIME until around 8 months, then gradually less and less and now basically never. She wasn’t bothered by it and gained weight without issue. I feel like people who don’t have a reflux baby don’t understand how difficult/stressful it can be. I made sure to carry an extra shirt in my diaper bag and she always had a bib on. It was not definitely not fun but now it feels like a distant memory. Everything is a phase!
Donna Mason says
Oh Julie, the haircut on the boys……………..THIS MADE MY DAY! Such a typical little kid thing that happens and so funny….or…maybe not. But it made me smile BIG today. They are so adorable and love the new cuts too. Have a great day and week Julie.
Julie says
Haha! It’s definitely something we will never forget!
Chelsea says
Currently reading One for the Blackbird, One for the Crow. It is in the same vein as The Giver of Stars which was such a great read!
Reenie says
His hair is adorable buzzed. 🙂

Currently reading library books to my kids.
Not much free time for reading to myself so I do a lot of story time reading with my four kids!
Our library offers drive thru pickup and is doing a special thing right now where they package books by age groups and you can come through and pick up these “book bundles” and get as many as you want!
On days we just need to get out of the house we go to the library get some “book bundles” then head home to have story time!😊
Sara @ mareish says
Current swipe up favorite is the offline ribbed henley from aerie! Long sleeved with thumb holes and snaps for easy nursing, I have 4 colors and wear them every single week.
Steph says
I cannot get over Ryder’s buzzed little head!!! Also just curious what kind of coffee maker do you use?
About to start watching Night Stalker on Netflix, if it’s not too freaky.
Currently reading Bringing Up Bebe (an American woman’s perspective on French parenting during her time living in Paris – so interesting!)
Currently drinking lots of HOT coffee in this freezing weather!
Currently wearing anything that fits – due with baby #2 Feb 14 but potentially earlier….would love to hear more about your experience being induced with Rhett (if you’re comfortable of course) since it looks like that the route I’ll be going too.
Annie H says
ryder looks adorable i am loving the cut. Why didnt chase get an equally as cute new ‘do?
Julie says
Since his was salvageable we gave him the choice and he didn’t want a full buzz cut so we are rolling with it!
Brittany B says
I don’t know what kind of specialist you’re seeing for Rhett, but you could also try a pediatric dentist? They have lost of training in mouth issues etc and it’s who I was referred to when we had some feeding issues early on. Come to find out it was something totally different for us, but I know that has helped lots of mamas of babies with different types of ties.
Melissa says
Ahh, I absolutely loved One Day in December! Reading that book was such a treat and actually, the book I’m currently reading called Beach Read by Emily Henry and on the cover, is a quote praising the book by Josie Silver, the author of One Day in December! This current one kind of reminds me a bit of One Day in December and has the same type feel to it. In any case, I think it is a great one and is a joy to read!
Julie says
I liked Beach Read a lot as well!
Erika Morris says
I literally yelled “oh no!” when I saw the boys’ hair cuts! Definitely put a smile on my face.

I’m curious, why not just buzz Chase’s hair as well? I’m a mom of four boys, and I would get tired of constantly combing over hair all day! 😆 Boys just do not keep their hair tidy! And like Chase said, it’ll grow back. Ryder is adorable!
Julie says
He didn’t want his fully buzzed and since his was mostly salvageable we rolled with it!
Avalon says

Oh my gosh those DIY haircuts seriously made my day! Too funny and cute!
I recently potty trained my toddler with the Oh Crap method. It worked so well! I made a free app called Potty Training Tracker to keep track of the times of when she usually goes, and give me prompting reminders (I have a 6 month old too so it’s easy to forget!). The app’s free in the iOS App Store & Google Play if you’re interested.

Hi!! Sharing my experience with reflux in case it helps at all—my second spit up constantly from day one. Like 6-10 times an hour. And I tried everything from feeding positions to bottles and burping. I asked the doctor what to do and they ruled out any tongue tie and also judges that she wasn’t in any pain when spitting up (she was totally happy, she just threw up a lot!). She was also gaining weight steadily so they said nothing to worry about and she would grow out of it… the MOST they could do was prescribe drops that would reduce pain or inflammation if she was upset but she wasn’t at all so we didn’t go through with it. Leighton finally grew out of it at 12 months haha yep. A year. A year of being covered in spit up and carrying 6 changes of clothes at all times ! Thankfully introducing solids made the spit up less frequent…SO not that it’s a solution but just sharing in case it makes you feel better that you’re not alone!
