Currently celebrating… Ryan’s Birthday + A Special 5K
This past weekend was filled with celebrations for our family, including Ryan’s 41st birthday and a special 5K race! We celebrated Ryan’s birthday with a family hike followed by slot car racing in Kannapolis and an afternoon spent at a local fall festival before filling up on cake — a combination of funfetti and strawberry cake at Ryan’s request!
Sunday was extra special as well as Ryan and Chase headed out to run in a 5K together. Ryder, Rhett and I served as their cheer squad and had a lot of fun rooting for our guys! Chase’s goal for the 5K was to run the whole race and place in his age group. (The race was quite small so we tried to keep his expectations low but knew he had a chance based on the small size of the race.) Chase was so proud of himself for running the entire time and but his excitement really kicked into high gear when he found out he placed first in his age group. As a mother, I must say watching your children create big goals for themselves, set out with determination to work toward their goals and then achieve them is something so, so special.

Currently supporting… Back to Play
My friend and the boys’ former ISR instructor, Faith, started Back to Play last week, an initiative dedicated to filling backpacks with essential items as well as some sweet surprises for children impacted by Hurricane Helene. Each backpack will be filled with hats and gloves, a warm blanket, a stuffed animal, coloring supplies, books, small toys and a toothbrush and toothpaste among other items. Faith’s efforts have received an incredible response and she’s someone I can personally vouch for if you’re looking for ways to help in the aftermath of this horrific hurricane. You may find the Amazon wishlist to support Back to Play here if you are interested in supporting this incredible effort.

Currently watching… Ted Lasso + Nobody Wants This
Ryan and I are still all-in on Ted Lasso and absolutely adore the show. Why we waited so long to give it a shot, I’ll never know but it’s such a funny, feel-good show and we look forward to watching an episode together every night before bed. I know we’ll be so bummed when it’s over!
I’m also currently streaming Nobody Wants This like seemingly every other woman out there right now. Ha! I am streaming it during my at-home workouts so I’m making it through the show on the slow side but I’m about four episodes in and loving it! The show feels like a prolonged funny chick flick with a little extra sprinkle of heart and conflict and I adore it.
- Currently anticipating… Thanksgiving with family
We just got word that my parents and my sister and her family will be joining us for Thanksgiving again this year which has me feeling all kinds of excited! We had so much fun hosting last year and cannot wait to have a full house during the holiday season again.

Currently researching… A summer Alaska vacation
It’s happening!!! One of the biggest “bucket list” trips Ryan and I have had on our radar for years is in the works. We’re celebrating multiple special milestone occasions (both Ryan’s -belated- and my 40th birthdays, our 15-year wedding anniversary and Chase’s 10th birthday) with a family trip to Alaska in the summer of 2025 and are triple-crossing our fingers we’ll be able to see whales in the wild, bald eagles and lots of Alaskan wildlife. We’ve done enough research to realize a cruise is probably the best fit for our family (to eliminate the need for hours and hours of driving to see what we want to see) but danggg is it overwhelming to compare all of the options out there.
I’ve spent hours reading blogs and reviews but would love to hear any of your firsthand experience if you’ve even been to Alaska and might have some travel tips to share.

Currently sipping on… Ultima Electrolytes
Ryan is Ultima-obsessed and keeps an assortment of flavors on hand to aid in his post-workout recovery. In the past, I’ve occasionally added a scoop to my water (usually when the boys request “lemonade” — aka a scoop of lemonade or pink lemonade Ultima) but more recently, I’ve started adding a scoop of Ultima to my water every day. I like it slightly watered down (I’ve never been big on syrupy/too-fruity drinks) and find that one scoop in about 24 ounces of water (aka one scoop in my Stanley cup) is perfect for me. I’m not the best at drinking a lot of water throughout the day but this seems to help, especially in the afternoon, and I love that it’s giving my body a boost of 6 electrolytes (calcium, chloride, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, sodium) as well as vitamin C.

Currently wearing… This flowy dress on repeat
I nabbed this flowy Amazon dress last month and have been reaching for it on repeat because it’s so comfy and also very easy to dress up or down. It works so well as a transitional dress from summer to fall and I’ve worn it to church, dinner with girlfriends, volunteering at the boys’ school and an event in Charlotte. I love it with sandals, booties, sneakers… you name it! (For sizing reference, I am 5’7” and wearing a size small. It’s very flowy and not too short.)
- Currently reading… Lock Every Door by Riley Sager
After finishing The Measure, I was in the mood for a thriller and when Lock Every Door became available through the Libby app, I was excited because I’ve enjoyed Riley Sager’s novels in the past. I’m about halfway through this one though and the verdict is still out. I’m no stranger to understanding the need to suspend my sense of belief in order to enjoy a novel but I’m having a hard time feeling invested in this one. And find myself feeling more frustrated by the main character than anything. I’m enjoying it enough to continue reading though so we’ll see how I end up feeling when I wrap this one up!

Currently eating… Pinch of Yum Chicken Tacos
You may remember when I could not stop making Pinch of Yum’s air fryer chicken a while back? Well, they’ve done it again with these chicken tacos! Who knew combining soy sauce and taco seasoning could yield some ridiculously delicious chicken!? And the avocado aji verde sauce? It just takes the chicken to the next level. Add this to your must-make dinner list ASAP!

Currently browsing… Amazon Big Deal Days
Amazon Big Deal Days kicked off this morning (October 8-9) and if you’re hoping to do a little browsing and possibly get ahead of some holiday shopping, I wanted to share a roundup of the deals that caught my eye below. (I tried to include a handful of holiday-specific items!) They’re a combination of items I personally own and love and a few finds I’m planning to purchase myself.
You may browse all of the items I found here on my Amazon Storefront and I will continually update this page as I discover new deals over the course of the next two days.
Home
- Skoy Non-Scratching Dish Scrubbers (I adore these! They clean pots and pans so well and you can just toss them in the dishwasher to clean + reuse them.)
- 6-Foot Pine Garland (for holiday decorating — there’s a clippable coupon and it stacks with the code 77IQUDN8 for extra savings. Great for ordering multiple for a fluffy garland look across your mantle. )
- Waffle Maker (our family’s favorite — I make a ton of waffles to freeze so we can easily pop them into the toaster on busy weekday mornings)
- 4-Pack iPhone Chargers (to keep all around your house)
- Reusable Swedish Dish Cloths (I cannot tell you how obsessed I am with these things and attribute them to using a LOT less paper towels in our kitchen)
- NodPod (this thing has been a game-changer for my sleep)
- PackIt Freezable Snack Pouch (the best for keeping perishable snacks cold on the go)
- Bissell Little Green Machine (I bought this when the boys were toddlers and continue to use it to treat carpet/upholstery messes)
- Brown Bags (with the code 50A8F904 these come down to $0.28/bag — great for goodie bags or if you have a lot of holiday gifts to give out this year)
- Cozy Blanket (I bought a few to include in holiday gift baskets this year)
- Electric Lighter (another great one to grab a few of while they’re on sale to pair with a candle for holiday gifting)
- Mesh Pouches (so many uses for home/kid stuff organization)
- Rug Gripper Pads (the pads we use to keep our runners in place)
- Clear Drawer Organizers (a dream for an organized junk drawer/bathroom vanity)
Fashion
- Oversize Button-Down Flannel (I ordered this one a few weeks ago and love it. I sized up and it’s long enough to cover my booty when I pair it with leggings and it gets softer with every wash.)
- Duster Cardigan (aka the cardigan I pair with everything all fall and winter long)
- Flowy Maxi Dress (I have this one in the floral “red” that’s not really red and it’s so beautiful. I swear it looks very Anthropologie in person, especially paired with a cute pair of booties!)
- Heart Pendant Necklace (the chunky gold heart pendant I’ve been wearing lately is only $11.99!)
- Western Boots (I ordered these in tan because I love my white pair so much. Great for my fellow wide-calf friends out there!)
- Our Favorite Amazon Sports Bra (10/10 quality — there’s a reason we’re all obsessed!)
- Bubble Initial Necklace (such a cute little find)
- Oversized Corduroy Jacket (would look adorable with leggings, a cozy sweatshirt and lug boots)
- True & Co. Racerback Bra (the comfiest bra and perfect for wearing under our beloved Target tanks)
- Adidas Sneakers (these cute platform sneakers are only $35 today)
Kids
- Puzzle Track Toy (A slam dunk birthday gift for Rhett this year! Kids build their own tracks for a little battery-operated toy to navigate.)
- Lego Advent Calendar (for the Lego lovers out there)
- Charm Bracelet Advent Calendar (code 508GJ5VI bring it down to $8.99 — I would’ve loved this as a kid!)
- Gem Stone Advent Calendar (for kids who love rocks and gems)
- Melty Bead Kit (our boys love this one because the beads are sorted)
- Acrylic Paint Pens (the boys love using these to decorate our mini pumpkins)
- Merry & Bright Construction Site Book (I ordered this for Rhett this year!)
- Matching Halloween/Holiday Pajamas
- Large Thanksgiving Coloring Poster (code 50W3YBMS bring this down to $4. 49 — I ordered this one for the boys to do with their cousins over Thanksgiving)
- Crayola Twistables Crayons (our boys’ favorites because they don’t break/get too flat)
- Crayola Clicks Markers (a genius invention that puts an end to missing marker caps)
- Kids Kindle Paperwhite (on our radar for Chase for Christmas this year! You can save an additional 20% if you have another Amazon device to trade in, too!)
- Electronic Memory Flashing Cube (10/10 recommendation for big kids)
- Decorate-Your-Own Wooden Car (great for crafty kids who love cars)
- Magnetic Road Tiles
- Talking Flash Cards (a toddler gem)
- Walkie Talkies
- Clay Bead Bracelet Kit (we love these for making bracelets and keychains)
- Water Doodle Mat
- The Honest Company Baby Wipes
- Graco Transition Car Seat (the car seat both Chase and Ryder use)
- PicassoTiles (forever and always one of my most-recommended toys for endless play)
- Tonies Disney Starter Set (Tonies are worth their weight in gold for our family. They’ve been the biggest hits with our boys from ages 3-7 but all of the boys listen to them! Great for road trips, stroller walks, quiet time, etc.)
- Electronic Safe (both our big kids love theirs for storing their money and little treasures)
Beauty
- Clinique Black Honey Tinted Lip Balm (You have no idea how thrilled I was to find this again! It was my favorite in college and I swear it’s a shade that looks good on everyone. It adds the perfect moisturizing pop of color to pale lips.)
- Flat-Top Kabuki Foundation Brush (The brush I use to apply base-layer makeup — aka foundation, CC-cream, ILIA super serum skin tint)
- IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream (I was talked into trying this at Sephora and love it for the days when I want to put a little extra effort into my makeup because the coverage is amazing. A little bit goes a LONG way and I’m nowhere near halfway through the tube I bought at the end of spring.)
- Living Proof Triple Bond Complex (I use this in my hair when it’s damp after washing and swear it’s increased its strength and overall health)
- CHI Flat Iron (the only straightener I’ve owned since college and it still works like a charm. 10/10!)
- ELEMIS Toner Pads (the exfoliating pads I use every single morning to help exfoliate, brighten, even skin tone and texture, and reduce dark spots and age spots)
- Paula’s Choice Exfoliate (I bought this months ago and use it 2-3x a week so it’s lasting me a long time! The reivews don’t lie and I swear it makes a noticable difference in my skin tone.)
- Lumify Eye Brighening Drops (Oh my gosh these really work! I use them before special events and swear they make the whites of my eyes brighter.)
- Beauty by Earth Sunless Tanning Lotion (The best for a natural-looking tan that doesn’t make you stink like sunless tanner. Just apply like a regular lotion — no tanning gloves required!)
- Retainer Cleaner (for those whose nighgards/retainers also horrify them)
- Mighty Patch (at the first sign of a zit, I slap one of these on and swear it reduces the amount of time a pimple sticks around)
- Julep Eyeshadow Stick (I run this over my eyeliner to make it look less severe and a little more smudgy)

We went on a cruise to Alaska and it is hands down my favorite vacation. We were on Celebrity and it was great. The whale watching is one of the most surreal things I have ever seen. You can’t go wrong and it is worth every penny! Your kids will love seeing the bald eagles as well.
Lori Murphy says
Anna Kloots on Instagram just went on a beautiful Alaskan Cruise 3 or so weeks ago. She has the detailed highlight bubble on her Instagram page. I sent this to you through Instagram. I would love to take a cruise to Alaska.
Tamara says
Just went on a celebrity cruise and it was awesome. We paid for a separate excursion to see the whales but ended up seeing them right off our ship one morning during breakfast, which was way cooler! Stay in Denali National Park before or after your cruise!

When I saw your family just told you they were coming for Thanksgiving I was like “wow that’s last minute” – because Canadian Thanksgiving is Oct 14! one of those little neighbourly differences 😆 your boys will love Alaska – the grizzly bears are unreal!
Sarah F says
So exciting! I haven’t been on the Alaska cruise- but I live in Vancouver (where they usually depart from)- so happy to answer any Vancouver specific questions if you’re stopping for a day or two before/after the cruise!
Ryane says
Oh thank you for sharing Faith’s efforts! With Amazon on the brain today (obvi), I sprung to buying!
I don’t know if it is possible to make a list “contributable” as she notes on the page, but you can’t right now. Without knowing the full address, I couldn’t deviate from the list. Also, looks like some bulk items preclude themselves from gift/wish lists 🙄
But happy to help how I could and really appreciate the resource! Paying it forward so my family’s community around Naples/Ft.Myers doesn’t feel the same!! We had roots outside Boone, NC too and I loved visiting as a kid.
(I don’t live in FL, my mom is from there!)

We took a Disney cruise from Vancouver to Alaska in 2019. It was the best vacation of my life! Disney cruises are pricey, but offered something for everyone. There were 10 of us ages 2-grandparents and everyone was happy!
Summer says
Hi! I’m pretty sure Disney does an Alaskan cruise, that might be a great fit. We were scheduled for an Alaskan cruise that got cancelled during covid, that was Norwegian though. We have not rebooked, on our bucket list. I highly recommend Mix and Match Travel Agency to assist you, no cost to you. She has a blog too, Mix and Match Mama. Have a great week! Praying for your family in Florida during this hurricane/tropical storm weather.

Thanks so much for bringing awareness to Back to Play and sharing the Amazon Wish List. What a wonderful initiative <3

As someone who is also planning a trip to Alaska, I would love to hear all about it! Everything! It’s a lot to research and take in!! I keep going back and forth on the cruise versus no cruise, but like you said it might be our best options to see what we want to see. What cruise line are you going with??
Raisa says
Thank you for sharing relief efforts for NC children! I would love your tips on cruising for 3 kids. We’ve hit some hurdles trying to plan a cruise for a family of 5.
Michelle Manni says
I have been to Alaska twice – both on Carnival cruises which are very family friendly. Before each cruise we did the land tour on the train which was amazing and you got to see so much more than you would just being on the cruise. Let me know if you have any specific questions!
Hannah Pausma says
I don’t know if you have any time off the cruise but the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center is amazing. Up close and personal with all of Alaska’s wildlife and seriously stunning scenery. Your animal lovers would love it. It was one of the most memorable things we did!
Rachel says
My husband and I started watching Ted Lasso after you recommended it (also living under a rock over here) and oh, happy days it is the most delightful show! We are halfway through season 2 and I’m already a little sad that it’s going to finish at some point, haha!
christina kochuba says
If you go to Ketchikan, go on the Bering Sea crab tour. It’s a remodeled boat from the Deadliest Catch tv show. Its hands on for the boys to touch sea life and they swing by this island where they throw up fish to eagles really close to the boat. Plus, we got to see a whale family up close and breaching! It’s so kid friendly. We have gone on it twice now and its always a highlight of our trips. Your boys are going to love Alaska!
Margaret says
We did an Alaska Cruise this past summer. #1 tip: I highly recommend selecting a cruise itinerary that spends a day cruising through Glacier Bay National Park. (Not all do as the National Park limits the number of ships that can enter). It was stunningly gorgeous and a highlight of the whole trip. Don’t miss it.
If you stop in Ketchikan, I recommend booking a Zodiac boat tour with Out to Sea Expedition company. A wildlife expert and biologist took us on a small zodiac boat to see everything up close – we saw 20+ bald eagles, a pod of whales, tons of starfish, seals, etc etc. It was very educational (your kids would probably love it – we touched a starfish, handled the kelp, etc) and also nice to get away from the cruise crowds on a small boat with only 10 ish people. (We didn’t have kids with us so YMMV on whether the zodiac would work for kids).
Lastly, you can see a lot more if you do a one-way trip (Anchorage/Wittier to Vancouver/Seattle. Versus a loop itinerary that’s Seattle to Seattle.) That adds travel expense and hassle so it’s up to you if it’s worth it for your crew but I’ll say the views and scenery on the north half of the one-way itinerary was better than the South half, and you miss all that north part on a 7-day looped itinerary from Seattle.
We flew to Anchorage, rented a car and spent 3 days seeing Denali and Talkeeta on our own first. Then returned the car, boarded the cruise, got off in Vancouver, and flew home from there. It was a wonderful trip and I’d recommend that.
Lastly since your crew loves animals, check out the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center a bit outside Anchorage, if you end up in Anchorage.

My husband and I took an Alaskan cruise for our honeymoon and to this day, it was one of my favorite vacations we’ve ever taken. It was absolutely beautiful and so much fun! We took Holland America, and while it was wonderful (and totally our style), but 3 kids later, I would not recommend it for families haha. It was lots of older folks (which we totally didn’t mind!), but not much geared for kids!
Julia L says
We did Alaska this past summer. My sister and brother in law live in Anchorage, so we spent a few days there, then took Celebrity from Seward to Vancouver. Our kids happen to love Celebrity – my 12 year old was not too big on the kids room, since he’s an in between age groups, but my younger 2 were very happy with kids club, which is SO much more low key than Disney or other family forward cruises. Highlights included the Conservation Center on the road between Anchorage and Seward, easy hiking to see the Mendenhall glacier and huge waterfall (at Juneau stop), and surprisingly the lumberjack show in Ketchikan. Vancouver is one of my favorite cities if you have time to spend there. Stanley Park and Granville Island being highlights. We did not do any wild excursions, since my daughter has some disabilities and we were not sure about being out all day, but we heard great things about whale watching and wildlife tours. Bald eagles are plentiful in Alaska, we saw the most in Juneau. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with what you choose, Alaska is amazing and that was definitely a trip to remember! Only disappointment was there was too much fog to get into the Glacier Bay area, which I was really looking forward to.
Tara Stream says
My husband and I did an Alaskan Cruise 10 years ago pre-kids (Holland America Cruise). We loved it and said when our kids are old enough to hike and appreciate all that Alaska has to offer we will forsure take them on Alaskan Cruise! With kids currently 7yo 5yo and 3yo we have been on 10+ Disney Cruises and have loved everyone of them. They are pricey but cater to families and kids of all ages. When we go back to Alaska it will be hard not to choose Disney.
Diane says
Our family is also doing an Alaskan cruise in summer 2025! Maybe we’ll see you there! 😉
Ashley R says
If it’s an option for a day trip, you should absolutely look at traveling to Katmai National Park. It’s known for being able to watch bears catch salmon as they are jumping up the waterfalls/swimming upstream. Truly one of the most incredible experiences of my life. Both you and your boys would LOVE it.
