Right before lunch, I stepped away from the computer and drove to the nearby hiking trails with Sadie for an afternoon run.
When I start training for a half marathon, Sadie does, too! She’s my favorite running buddy and watching her prance along like a happy little elf makes me enjoy training a little bit more. She’s a joy! (If you’re a dog owner interested in running with your dog, you might be interested in this past post: Running with Your Dog. It also includes a list of great running breeds!)
Aside from watching Sadie have a blast, trail running is fun in other ways, too! Because the trails are peppered with roots and rocks, I find myself mentally engaged the whole time since I’m always looking out for a possible trail hazard so I don’t trip and fall.
I managed to avoid any face plants on today’s five mile run and had a good time running with Sadie and listening to some new songs that I downloaded over the weekend.
My favorite workout song of the moment?
“Don’t Fail Me Now” by Melanie Amaro.
It totally rejuvenated me when it came on in the middle of my run today. I just love her voice! And I love yelling, “Feet! Don’t fail me now!” along with her as I run. The lyrics seem too perfect for running even though I know I’m taking them literally and a bit out of context. Whatever works!
Lunch
When I arrived home from my run, I quickly showered before heading into the kitchen to make lunch.
All I wanted for lunch today was peanut butter, so I made myself a peanut butter and honey bagel sandwich on a toasted cinnamon raisin bagel.
Spreading the peanut butter on the warm bagel made it melt which melted my heart. Melted peanut butter reminds me of some kind of fabulous ice cream topping. Yum!
I need to get some vegetables in me today, so I’m thinking a green protein smoothie or vegetables and hummus will have to happen as my afternoon snack.
Back to work! I’m really looking forward to a volunteer event that I have on my schedule for tonight with the Junior League of Ocala and hope to sneak in an hour of studying before then as well.
See ya later!
Question of the Afternoon
- What is your favorite workout song right now?
Faded Days Giveaway Winners
Congratulations to…
- Amanda @ Eat More Rabbit Food: “I love the powder green! What a fun giveaway!”
- Ashley: “Love all the shades, they are really great but I’d say I’m loving blue haze. So hot!”
- Jennifer: “It’s a toss up between the Pink Haze and the Pool Party Heros. They’re all great though!! Super cute picture of you girls in your Faded Days sundglasses!”
Since I still cannot figure out how to get the numbering to work in my comments section since my numbering plugin decided to quit on me, I randomly selected the winners myself (which is what I said I’d do anyway). I usually like to use a random integer generator so you guys can see it’s truly random, but figured that I’d select an entry from the beginning, middle and end of the comments section of the giveaway post. Since you may not remember what you wrote for your entry, I am also going to email the winners using the email addresses provided. Thanks for your patience! I am hoping to offer a re-do Faded Days sunglasses giveaway with new winners when everything is working again. Stay tuned!

LOVING all that peanut butter! 🙂 You’re right, melted peanut butter truly is the best! I had a peanut butter and banana open faced sandwich on toast for lunch, so I’m in need of some green today too. I like your green smoothie idea for an afternoon snack!
Sonja says
I bet you really did have “peanut butter fingers” after eating that sandwich! 😉
I have a little shih tzu puppy (Louie) who loves to go for walks, but neither he or I would do well on a five mile run. We do better on the sofa!
Claire @ Keeping Up With Claire says
I’m LOVING Gangnam Style- I know its embarrassing, but it’s the best song early in the morning! Oh, and I Cry-Flo Rida. SO good!
Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
i love that song, too! i think i like the original version by bingo players a little more than flo rida’s version, but both are really catchy!
Yellow Haired Girl says
Ohhhh that melted peanut butter picture is money. I want that right. now.
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
Melted peanut butter is so good! It reminds me of peanut butter topping that you can get on sundae’s. They are the best! 🙂
Bethany @ Accidental Intentions says
Melty peanut butter is the BEST. Grilled PB&J sandwiches are probably my all-time favorite because of the inherent peanut butter meltiness that comes along with them. That whole sandwich actually sounds incredible. Cinnamon raisin bagel, honey, peanut butter…you’ve got pretty much all of my favorite sandwich elements right there. Perfect.
Emily says
Oooo thanks for the music reccomendation! I just added it on my Spotify list … this cubicle is JAMMIN!
I’m really into Karmin right now. Their song “I Told You So” is really sassy and fun to run to. Gotta admit, I usually pull out a few fist-pumps on the treadmill. 😉

I now have the song “Journey to the Past” from the animated Anastasia in my head. “Heart, don’t fail me now/courage, don’t desert me…” I’m a bit of a dork right now, but I feel like this is a safe place to do that 🙂

I am Woman- Jordin Sparks. Great pump up song!! Did my entire work out yesterday with this song on repeat.
Carly says
I wish I could run with my dog more. He is so stinking difficult because he won’t focus, but he is an amazing runner! (He’s a Puggle). I usually let my brother run him and I run beside them 🙂 Also, every picture of Sadie makes me smile. That is my dream dog.
My favorite running tunes are anything from the 90’s! Haha…I love reliving that-keeps me going, that’s for sure!
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
I love when Lady Gaga’s “Starstruck” comes up on Pandora – its perfect for my running pace!

That bagel made me drool, haha. Now all I want is peanut butter! See what you do to your readers…
My pup doesn’t like to run on trails, but put ducks, geese, bunnies, etc in front of her and she’s a marathon dog!
Lisa says
Mmm…that drippy peanut butter looks fantastic! I always wish I had a dog just so I could have an excuse to attempt to run. I’ve always wanted to be a runner but fail at it. Plus it’s less freaky to wander out around when you have a dog.
Stephanie @ Legally Blinde says
“One More Night” by Maroon 5 gives me an insane boost of energy when I’m working out! I really love “Rock My Run” mixes, too. Oh, and Girl Talk – the BEST for running!
Tori says
I LOVE LOVE LOVE that song. I swear it makes me run faster no matter where it comes in during a run! 🙂
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl says
Melted peanut butter is the best! That is why it is by far my favorite topping for toast :).
Natalie @ Free Range Human says
That bagel does look yummy! I really like “Hall of Fame” by The Script.
Joe @ The Frolicking Fells says
Where do I even begin?
–I love “Mercy” by Kanye West. The last verse where the beat speeds up really gets me running fast!
–I also have been enjoying “Invincible” by Machine Gun Kelly (like me, he’s from Cleveland).
–Havana Brown’s “We Run the Night” is great too.
–Lastly, Owl City’s “Good Time” is a fun one to listen to when I need a bit of extra motivation!
Candice says
Love that song!!!
I love trail running too! Wish I lived in florida.. our trails are covered in snow!
TorontoRunner says
I’ve never ran trails. There’s one nearby my house that I’ll need to give a try sometime!
I’m loving Kanye West/Jay Z/ Big Sean – Clique as my running song!
Allison says
I was wondering if you ever get nervous running alone in the park/on trails? I live in a fairly safe community but feel uneasy running alone.
Leslie @ Body Won't Break says
I love and hate trail running/walking for all the reasons you listed. I am hoping to get more comfortable with trail running soon and also strengthen my knees; I am so afraid of them giving out on me.
And running with my dog… I would like to do that but they are even crazier than Sadie!
Stacey says
Probably going to sound like a bit of of a psycho with this one but I’ve been listening to “Blood” by In This Moment a lot at the gym lately. It’s really good for when I up all my weights and think I’m going do die; less good for cardio unless it’s running uphill. Something about “Blood blood blood pumping through my veins” that just does it for me.
Molly @ Just Your Average Athlete says
My favorite workout song of the moment is a tie between “Hall of Fame” by The Script and “Loser Like Me” by Glee. Both give me such a burst of energy for some reason 🙂
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
My favorite workout song right now is Everybody Talks by Neon Trees, but I haven’t heard that song I’ll have to check it out! I’ve tried running with my brother’s golden retriever, but she’s so distracted by everything she runs back and forth in front of me and tries to stop and smell things!
Anne Marie Woodgate says
I love Ravers In the UK – Manian, Greyhound – Swedish House Mafia, Sexy and I know it -LMFAO, and Little talks – Of Monsters and Men is awesome too!
Lexi says
Your list of running dogs is missing the doberman!!! We have a dobie and a vizsla, and they’re the two best running buddies ever. Our vizsla isn’t as good off-leash (she’s far more independent, while the dobie is extremely codependent), so my husband takes the dobie on his mountain biking excursions and the dobie runs alongside next to him, at a fast biking pace, for 10-15 miles!
Haley @ The Saucy Apple says
Melty peanut butter brings me back to my childhood when my dad would make peanut butter and banana sandwiches and then put them in the oven for a few minutes. Pure magic. 🙂
Ashlee says
Alex Clare “Too Close”!!
I love my puppies, but I sure wish Boxers were a running breed! They have so much energy, it would give me mucho motivation!
Danielle Z says
i first read the title of this post as Lana Del Ray’s song “Born to Die” …”feet dont fail me now” is the first line of the song….funny!
Michelle says
You heard of Ollie Murs? He won the Xfactor in the UK a while back…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4aQDOUbErNg Love it! His songs are always so upbeat! Out of interest…what’s your all time favourite peanut butter as in which brand? That one looks so amazingly drippy!!!

That trail looks super fun to run on. Ours are snow covered already! Great for skiing, not so much for running.
