I’ve had a theory linking the random ringing of our doorbell to the power going out for a while now.
Since I work from home, I’ve been sitting at my computer when the power has shut off a couple of times. A few months ago, the moment my computer randomly turned off, the doorbell rang and yet no one was at the door. Odd.
I immediately began to wonder whether or not there was a correlation. I told Ryan my theory and he shrugged his shoulders saying it was a possibility, but certainly strange.
Well, last night, in the middle of the night, our doorbell rang. Creepy.
Sadie spiraled into a fit of crazy and ran around the house barking. Ryan and I sat up, looking at each other, admittedly a little on edge. A visit from a random looney, perhaps?
Then I saw the digital clock in our room blinking. The power went out!
I proudly proclaimed, “The doorbell rings whenever the power goes out!”
Theory proven.
Even with our minds at ease, it was a little hard to fall back to sleep after the commotion, though nothing will top the evening when Ryan had me convinced someone was in our house. Yikes. I was on edge at nighttime for a solid week after that one.
Breakfast
I think the incident from last night took a lot out of Sadie.
She’s a sleepy little thing this morning. I have a feeling I’ll get about 20 minutes of sleepy Sadie before psycho Sadie returns in full force.
Sadie wasn’t even curious about what was going on in the kitchen this morning as I made breakfast.
Pancakes!
I made a batch of banana vanilla protein pancakes and topped them with a bit of syrup to start the day. Nice and comforting.
Hopefully today will be less intense than last night!
Question of the Morning
- Have you ever been totally freaked out by something only to realize it was absolutely nothing later?

Once upon a time, many moons ago, my immediate family, my grandma, my grandpa, and my aunt were all having dinner at my house. My aunt, at the time, was a visiting nurse, and as such always wore a beeper (told you it was many moons ago). We had just sat down to dinner and were about to pray when her beeper went off. It was the first time I had ever heard such nonsense, and I thought it was the smoke detector. I bolted out my seat to the door, and picked up my dog on the way. My family thought I had lost it haha. I was SO embarrassed.

That IS crazy!! And totally scary. I think things that happen in the middle of the night–like random things are 1,00000000000x scarier than if they happened during the day. Hah.
Zoe at A Single Magic says
Go you! I love proving my theories like that haha.
In my parent’s house the rain would get so loud at night and the gutter would sound like it was about to fall off! Between that and our creaky stairs I learned to sleep through anything haha.

When I was younger (I’m now 20), I use to think that people were going to climb up the TV cables that run down the side of our house next to my second floor bedroom window. Whenever the wind would make them hit against the house, I would have to go over and check out the window just to make sure. Honestly, looking back, it’s so silly because those cable are so fragile and thin that it couldn’t happen in a million years.

The doorbell always freaks me out. I don’t know why, but I’m convinced the people from the strangers or something will be at my door haha

Our doorbell went off in the middle of the night one time. I almost called the police because it kept going off.. turned out it’s battery powered and the batteries were dying. I never replaced them since anyone who came over normally called first. LOL

One night when I was home on break from college, my mom’s alarm was going off in the middle of the night. I’d never heard the ringtone she used for her alarm, just her actual ringtone, so I thought someone had broken into our house and their phone was going off. I was convinced someone was coming to kill me…clearly I had been watching too much CSI on that break. Once I got the courage to creep up to my mom’s room to tell her I thought there were intruders, she told me it was her phone and I was so embarrassed. I couldn’t fall back asleep, though, and ended up having to turn on every light in the house. Needless to say, my mom was not pleased.

It is SCARY how human Sadie looks in that picture haha! Amazing.

Doorbells and phones ringing in the middle of the night are scary. Don’t like them. My mom had a scare today. She lives alone and two men drove up to her house. She said they looked to be mid 60’s. The guy rang her doorbell and she opened the door just a couple inches. He said “I noticed you have a flagpole. Has anyone ever offered to give you a flag before?” Mom said no, I have one, but no one bothers to put it up. And she shut the door in his face. She was sorry she didn’t ask him more questions, but she doesn’t like to have men at her door when she’s alone. Could have been legitimate, but guess we’ll never know. She’s worried now they’ll come back. Just seemed a bit odd.

Too many scary movies and video games have made me a complete psycho if I’m by myself at night. I’ll instantly start thinking of all the different ways a killer could sneak into my house and jump at every noise I hear. It’s kinda bad.

Slightly (un)related story- My husband has a habit of not closing the door all the way, let alone locking it. He grew up in an area where no one worried about locking their doors, so that part I can get, but I still don’t understand the difficult part of pushing the door to close it all the way? About a year after we were first married I woke up just after the sun was up and went to the bathroom to find our front door literally wide open. Nothing was missing from the house, so we chalked it up to him not closing it all the way again. But there’s nothing quite like the shock of waking up to your front door open. You would think that after that he would be better about it…but somehow it’s still a problem? lol. I was glad that we sleep with our bedroom door locked already and I’m now a lot better about checking behind him to make sure it’s closed and locked!

I deal with an anxiety disorder so I’m constantly stressing over things that turn out to be nothing. It’s frustrating, but I’m working on it!

One Halloween I changed my ringtone to be a maniacal laugh of the muh ha ha ha persuasion. I got a phone call in the middle of the night, the phone rang maniacally, the dogs went nuts, and I freaked out because I had no idea what the noise was and thought someone was in the house. Ringtone changed next day (after a figured out what the heck happened). Scary and ridiculous!

OMG my house alarm has been going off when the u-verse crashes (which, for some reason, only happens in the early early hours of the morning). Absolutely terrifying.

My parent’s TV goes on when the power is off and comes back on … it’s the one in their bedroom so it scares the crap out of them. (They now keep it unplugged as it goes off all the time there in the summer!)
I am a wild dreamer … I have a sleep disorder so when I actually do get REM things get kind of wild…maybe once a month or so if I am lucky!
I once woke up< sat up and punched my husband for something he has done in a dream
… ditto for picking up the cat and tossing her aside looking for the live mouse.

Omg! My freak out list goes on forever! 1 time I called the police from my closet because a bat threw itself into my door wall late night and my husband wasn’t home.
I swear it sounded like a 300lb man was trying to slam his body into the house thru the glass door.
The police officer (who gave me a ticket a few weeks later) thought I was a nut!!! They determined it to be a bat since there were no foot prints! That officer even asked me if I ever found the 300lb man when he wrote me my ticket! At least he thought he was funny.

I totally know how freaaaakaaay that is!! About 2 years ago my husband and I were sound asleep at 4 am when my eyes shot open because I heard someone trying to use a key in our front door. Needless to say I was beyond scared. I whispered “there’s someone at the door”, to which my husband said “mmrrrr” and rolled over. So I got out of bed and got the phone in the other room. Then he knew I was serious. We have an internet line on our phone and it goes out frequently, it was out. Awesome. At this point the person was knocking and ringing our doorbell incessantly. They began shaking the door as they rang and knocked. Now I’m shaking in my pj’s. My husband is a big guy, 6’5″ and he wanted to open the door and knock the door knocker out….but I said NO what if he has a knife or a gun?!?!? Not happening. I called 911 from my cell phone and they were there within 5 minutes. The guy was in our backyard trying to get into our shed. turns out he was just an intoxicated youth who attends our local university. he thought our house was his buddy’s who gave him a key (it’s all making more sense by now). We were relieved to see the kid and put our minds to rest, but it didn’t make it easier to fall back asleep. We were spooked for months after that!

You just solved the biggest mystery for me! Last night i woke up around 5AM to a big thunder storm. All of a sudden, the doorbell ran, and then the biggest clap of thunder/lightning strike I ever heard happened. I was verrry freaked out. I thought the two might be related! And now, my TV won’t work. Not happy about that one
