Eight miles!
All done before 8:45 a.m. (And yes, I desperately need to repaint my nails.)
Pretty sweet start to the weekend!
Fun fact: Eight miles is Sadie’s personal distance record! (You may see what Sadie thinks about during long runs here.)
Sadie ran eight miles with me last year when I was training for the Chicago Rock ‘n’ Roll half marathon and then I picked her up about halfway through my remaining long runs, but I never took her more than eight miles because I worried about her in the heat.
Since we’re training for a half marathon in November, the weather isn’t quite as hot as it is in June and July, so I’m thinking Sadie will be able to handle all of our long runs. (Runner’s World magazine listed vizslas as one of the few dog breeds that can train for an entire marathon with their owners!)
When we got back from our run today, Sadie immediately picked up a ball and jumped around, trying to coerce us into several rounds of fetch. Psycho.
As Ryan, Sadie and I set out to conquer the eight-mile run on our half marathon training plan this morning, none of us (okay, just the humans) were feeling particularly enthusiastic. Fortunately once we started running, the miles ticked by pretty quickly.
Ryan and I chatted away for the first six miles and then said about two words to each other during the final two. Apparently we were in the zone and just trying to finish out the run without much else on our minds.
Well, breakfast was on my mind.
Breakfast
I always brainstorm what I want for breakfast during my workouts. Today nothing sounded better than an egg, cheese and jelly breakfast sandwich.
Cheddar cheese + Two fried eggs + Raspberry jelly + Whole wheat English muffin
Turkey bacon on the side!
Fantastic post-run fuel.
Today’s plans include lots of errands and many phone calls to inquire about some craigslist finds and then we may have two special guests come in town for the evening.
Enjoy your Saturday!

Why, hello my virtual Savannah RNR training partner! I just got done with my run and blogged it as well over breakfast. Too bad I didn’t live closer to have been a 3rd wheel on your running date. 😉
peanutbutterfingers says
you’d leave me in the dust! you’ve already done 10 miles you running machine!
Shannon says
Your breakfast looks so good! 🙂
congrats on the 8 miles! 🙂
Khushboo says
Woo woo you go girl (and Ryan) 🙂
Amy @ A Stool at the Counter says
Hahah…omg…we should totally get Sadie together with my yellow lab, Tela. She is also the type that even if we take her for a long run or swim, she still comes back ready to play…and she is 6! Crazy energy…
Emma (Sweet Tooth Runner) says
YAAAY for your 8 mile run!! I LOVE that you can run with Sadie!! I have a mini schnauzer and he can barely run 2 miles with me, let alone 8! 😛
Sweet and Savvy says
Congrats on the eight miler! 🙂 That is so awesome that Sadie can accompany you on your long runs, making your training a family affair!
Nicole says
Nice job! To Sadie as well. My 8 miles is next week. But I got through 8 a couple of weeks ago so it should be fine. I have trouble letting my mind wander so I am working on that. And I definitely think about everything I am going to EAT when I am out there.
Off to the gym and then maybe putting the office furniture together. NOT from Ikea thank god.

Your breakfast sandwich is looking extra scrumptious today. 🙂
Way to go on the 8 miles! I’m still working up my exercise mojo for this morning…
Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance says
Awesome news on the run!
I just got a little Chihuahua (named Popcorn) and I’m sad that he’ll never be able to run distance with me 🙁 He can barely walk 20 feet outside of our apartment without panting haha
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
Congrats on accomplishing the 8 miler! And way to get it done before 8:45 on a Saturday morning… even more impressive!
Tabaitha says
Way to go girl! Your breakfast looks yummy!
Claire @ Un Bello Aperitivo says
Yay! Congrats on the 8-miler…Sadie is a ball of energy!
Danielle Spellman @ Squirrel Snackin' says
You’re awesome! 8 miles is my goal for running. 🙂 Once I’m done with Insanity I want to train for a half marathon that doesn’t exist. The egg in your breakfast looks so delish..I could eat eggs every day and never get tired of them! 🙂
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
Congrants on the 8 miles! 🙂
Lindsey @ Happy or Hungry says
Nice, congrats on the 8 miles! And Sadie’s PDR 🙂 haha
That breakfast looks ridiculous.
Aine @ Something to Chew Over says
Great start to your day! I wish I had a dog to run with! Is Sadie a good running buddy or does she keep stopping to investigate?
Amy @ VitaminAmy says
Great job on the 8 miles! I have a weird question…do you give Sadie more food on the days she does runs/long runs with you?
Hope says
Congrats on the 8 miles!! 🙂
Ali @ Ali Runs says
It’s so cool that vizsla’s can run that far! I love running with my dog, but her breed typically has hip problems and I would feel awful if I caused her any pain.
Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie says
Congrats on that awesome run! I know so many people that love running, my best friend won states for it in cross country in high school, but its really hard for me. I much prefer fast walking! ;p That is so cool Sadie can run with you! My puppies are like six inches off the ground so I don’t think they’re really cut out for running! ;p
Anna @ Food Fitness and Frolicking says
Congratulations on an awesome run! The weather is just PERFECT right now..training is so much easier without the heat!
Did your run include hills? Or what’s the race course like? I’d be interested to hear about the elevation of your runs!
Dawn @ Blonde on a Mission says
I bet Sadie is the ultimate motivator 😀 always excited and ready to go!
And that breakfast sandwich looks ridiculously good.
Emma @ Microcosm of Life says
You and Sadie are a couple of running beasts! Can she be an official runner in your races? She’d look good with a race number bib 🙂
Also, I don’t know what it is about that melted cheddar cheese, but it is calling my NAME. Looks so good!!
Casey @ Pocket Full of Sunshine says
Great job Julie! How fun that you have a couple of running buddies. 🙂 I really want your breakfast, can you come make it for me?!
chelsea says
Fooood is all i can think about during long runs haha 🙂 I’m just thinking, “Does this sound good? Do I have this? Can I cook this!?”
kathleen @ the daily crumb says
great saturday morning run!
that english muffin-which looks extra delicious today! i’m loving the egg/jelly combo lately. have a great day!
Daniella @Runner at Heart says
Awesome job on your run. Don’t you feel so accomplished after a long run?
Tanya says
My husband and a friend trained for an Ironman this past year. Our friend has a vizsla and they would take them on their long 18 mile runs! He never got tired, it was actually amazing! I think our friends regret taking him out on such long runs because now nothing tires him out!
PS
I am now addicted to chocolate protein granola. Made it twice last week and said I wouldn’t make it this week. Opps made it tonight. I put in a approximately 1 tsp of PB instead of oil (i love PB but think PB and chocolate is better) its not as clustery but still delicious!
Abby @ Abz 'n' Oats says
Great run! 🙂 I’m so glad you taught me the egg, cheese, and jelly breakfast sandwich combo! I eat it for lunch on a fairly regular basis!
Tracy @ Tracy's Treats says
Congrats on your run! I got a 10 miler in this morning and am now off to a day long music festival! My poor legs!
Kaella says
NICE!!! I just finished 6.2 miles (my 2nd ever 10 K) and I shaved 12 minutes off my time. I basically have to visualize myself running, and finishing the route, in order to get my booty moving! (it also helped I read your blog before I left this morning—hello motivation!) Have a great weekend 😀
peanutbutterfingers says
holy guacamole! that’s flippin’ amazing! 12 minutes!? you are a speed demon. great job, kaella!
Kaella says
Thanks Julie! My first time was slow (it was one of those “just put one foot in front of the other and don’t stop” runs) and I wasn’t looking to beat my time, but it definitely felt better this morning. To be honest…..I also saw three deer on my path, so I may have done some sprinting to get around them (and hoped they didn’t start chasing me, ha ha!) That probably helped my time as well 🙂
Lindsay@ In Sweetness and In Health says
Awesome job on the run!! And that’s great that Sadie could run that far too :D. I’m pumped to be self-hosted now, btw! It’s great!
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
Hey, nice job on the run! 8 miles feels so good, I bet! I loved training for races and conquering those longer runs.
I totally had eggs today too-SO great for a saturday b-fast post workout 🙂
Hillary says
I haven’t run eight miles in nearly a year. Man I don’t miss those long training runs! Glad you guys kicked butt, though!
Also wanted to let you know that I did ANOTHER one of your weights workouts this morning (the most recent upper body one that you posted). It was a killer. Thanks!
peanutbutterfingers says
this was my longest run since aug. 1 last year! so glad you liked the weights workout!
Sarah K. @ The Pajama Chef says
great job on the run! we’re running a marathon in a month and did 18 this am… i am so ready to taper and take a break 🙂 and it looks like we had the same breakfast today too…..except i had toast instead of an english muffin!
Allison @ Happy Tales says
If ryan hadn’t gone with me after my half today, there was no WAY i would’ve made it out the door again for the extra milages. Training partners are so essential!
Kristi W. says
All these posts about turkey bacon are making me want some! Do you find it with the regular bacon at the grocery store, or is it in a different section? And nice job with the 8 mile run before 9 a.m.! That is impressive. Now you can enjoy the rest of the day.
peanutbutterfingers says
we buy it right by the other bacon!
Tichina says
Woohoo gotta love Saturday’s 🙂 I just finished the same sandwich omnomnomnom!
Cait's Plate says
I’m with ya on the needing to re-paint my nails. That needs to be done this weekend!

I’m yet to try the savory bfast sandwich w/jelly. I know you swear by it…but I just don’t know…
peanutbutterfingers says
do it!!! you won’t regret it!
Elizabeth Cheek says
Does Sadie need more food on long run days? e
peanutbutterfingers says
hahha i don’t know… she has access to her food bowl 24-7 as it is and we just refill it when it’s getting low. i actually DO think she eats more on days when we take her running now that i think about it.
Primrose says
Julie you were in my dream last night! I think I come to this site too often and my subconscious thinks we’re friends haha
Caitlin says
I live in LA and am doing the Rock N Roll half on 30OCT and I had ZERO motivation to do 8 miles this morning. I was like let me see if Julie did it….and then I saw your post and I was like damnit! But i got out there and did 8 miles this morning too, thanks to you! Enjoy your weekend.
peanutbutterfingers says
ha! well now i’m REALLY glad i did it! so glad you did too! 🙂
Megan@eatmybeets says
Awesome job! I’m still at 4.26 miles as my max haha I just can’t dedicate myself to train for a long race. (luckily I haven’t signed up for any haha)
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
good job on the run! My brother and sister in law have a golden retriever puppy and I can’t wait until she’s old enough to go running with me!
Joie says
Nice 8-miler! My wirehaired pointing griffon (also a versatile hunting dog, but 100 times shaggier than a vizsla!) lurves going on long runs with us. He’s actually suffered more for my pregnancy this year than I have, because I can’t make it past 5 or 5.5 miles anymore. Poor guy. He and Sadie would be quite a pair – he’s also always begging for fetch post-run!
nicole @ simply Nicole says
congrats on the 8 miles! I wish I had endurance like that!! Maybe if I started training for a marathon, I’d be motivated!
Kait @ One Love Run says
good job on the 8 miles! I have a half coming up in Nov and I am up to 7 miles this week – for some reason once I start getting past the 6 mile range the runs get intimidating! We will see how it goes!
