Exercise Ball Chair

April 30, 2012 by Julie 73 Comments

Good morning!

I already miss slowly waking up and wandering off to the Fantasy Dining Room aboard our cruise ship to leisurely enjoy a yummy breakfast and a hot cup of coffee.

I suppose vacation really is over. Boo!

At least I can relive my time on the ship through recap posts which will be coming your way beginning this afternoon.

Non-Workout

This morning Ryan and I caught up on sleep and skipped the morning workout we initially planned for the day. I’m thinking a lunchtime workout may be in order, but I’d also like to unpack and get my life back together, so we’ll see!

Breakfast

Breakfast used up the only food we had on hand. A trip to the grocery store is necessary today!

egg sandwich

My egg sandwich included a toasted whole wheat English muffin, a slice of muenster cheese, strawberry jelly and two fried eggs.

muenster

The highlight of my morning meal was a hot cup of crème brulee coffee!

creme brulee coffee

As a birthday gift, my mom gave me about six different kinds of flavored coffee from The Fresh Market in St. Pete to try. I love flavored coffee!

My mom knows how much I adored The Fresh Market’s peppermint crème coffee over the holidays and filled up a variety of bags with enough grounds to make about five cups of coffee each so I could enjoy a little sampler pack from The Fresh Market. Such a neat gift!

The crème brulee flavor is a winner.

I also received a milk frother from my family that I cannot wait to try. I’m not exactly sure how to use it (just turn it on after I add milk to my coffee or before?), but I plan to read the instructions and test it out today!

Exercise Ball Chair

Another birthday gift I received from my family was an exercise ball.

exercise ball

This was actually the only gift idea I could think of when my family first asked me if I had any specific items on my birthday wish list.  I’ve wanted to use an exercise ball as a chair in my home office for a while now but never bought one for whatever reason.

(Source)

I know that there are basically just as many pros as there are cons for using an exercise ball as a chair and do not plan to use it all day long, but I get sick of sitting in my usual desk chair from time to time and thought it might be a good change of pace every once in a while. Plus, I am hoping to slowly accumulate more at-home workout equipment, so it’s a welcome addition!

Speaking of funky desk situations, I remember one of my former bosses bought one of those treadmill desks for his office.

treadmill desk

It actually sat in the box for more than a year while I worked there, but I always wanted to see him use it! I don’t think I’d want to work at a treadmill desk all day long, but it might be a nice little breather when I start to get antsy at my computer.

Question of the Morning

  • Would you ever want to work at a treadmill desk or at a desk that required you to simply stand up all day long?

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Standing or a treadmill would be nice for a change to avoid numb bum syndrome!!! I can’t sit for more than about 10minutes without having the urge to move!

The milk frother is the best! Just put some milk or cream or creamer in your cup and froth while you add your coffee.

I used an exercise ball at my desk for a long time! I can’t tell you how many times I almost took a spill because I could NOT stop bouncing all over the place. I was a wild child.

I would love to have the desk treadmill as long as I could ALSO have a seat to take breaks- maybe a slide in bench that’s attached to the side…I should invent that! 😉

I would kill for one of those treadmill desks. You burn an extra 800 calories a day (so they say) And they go so slow I probably wouldn’t notice. I get so antsy anyways. Plus, then I’d be allowed to wear sneakers at work so really I don’t see how this scenario could go wrong.

Also, I hope you saw that Office episode where Dwight got one of those balls for his chair. Because that is how I will picture you on it.

Oh man, i was just talking about how much i dislike sitting at a desk all day, all week. I think a tall desk would be great bc you could stand when you want to but sit on a tall stool if you got tired!

I usually just try to get up and stretch every once in a while to keep my legs alive!

I LOVE the creme brulee coffee from Fresh Market 🙂 it is full of flavor and makes my kitchen smell fantastic. I don’t think I could work on a treadmill, I have no coordination so I would most likely fall off if I was trying to multi task!
I do love the idea of using an exercise ball as a chair.

The treadmill desk sounds like a good idea but I don’t think I could concentrate on work if I had one of those. I would love to have a standing desk though. I sit all day at my current job and it has destroyed my back over the years. P.S. Your egg sandwiches always look so delicious! 🙂

As for the standup desk – I’d use one if I worked from home. Treadmill though? That might be a bit much.

I just saw the treadmill desk idea on the news a couple days ago! I think it’s an awesome idea, although I agree I would need a chair on the side for breaks. Getting some extra activity in sounds awesome, but maybe not for eight hours straight! Glad you had a good time on your cruise!!

Those treadmill desks are awesome but I really don’t understand how people can use them (or read books, etc.) when on a treadmill. I feel like I’m constantly bouncing up and down too much to keep my eye on whatever line I’m reading. I also feel like it takes a decent bit of “awareness” on a treadmill to keep from losing your balance and falling which I wouldn’t have with that desk set up. Maybe that’s just me and my clumsiness though!?

I love the desk treadmill idea for a shared space so folks could take their laptops there and work from the desk for a period of time. It would probably be popular in the office to start with, but like gym memberships in March, interest in it will fade.

I too love flavored coffee. I don’t like coffee to tast like coffee while my hubby only wants plain old coffee. The Keurig machine has saved our mornings. Everyone can have exactly what they want – I enjoyed Kahlua coffee with Italian Sweet Cream this morning. YUM!

    Happy Belated Birthday!

I only use a standing desk now. I started with just a high desk and a chair that I could use part of the time, when I got tired, but now I stand all day at my desk. I love it! I find it gives me more energy throughout the day. Plus I can dance more easily when my favorite songs come on ;-).

The more I learn about the dangers of sitting all day, the more I am glad that I’ve trained my body to work at a standing desk. Apparently sitting all day is extraordinarily bad for your health. On a personal level though, I think I have better posture when I stand since my neck and shoulders don’t get as sore when I work standing.

I would love to try a treadmill desk, but I can’t afford to buy one if I end up hating it. So until I win the lottery (lol), I’ll be happily sticking with my standing desk.

The Office had a hilarious episode where Dwight started using a standing desk then hid a chair to lean on under his pants. Hee Hee. I would love a treadmill desk . . . if I had time to use a treadmill for speed or incline walking. My 6 month old keeps me pretty busy so I usually strap him in a baby carrier and we go for walks outside. Don’t know if I could multitask carrying a baby, walking on a treadmill and working on my laptop at the same time though. Probably be pretty funny to watch me try though 😉

Start at the bottom of the cup and then slowly move the frother up to the top of the milk and it will make noises as it makes foamy bubbles (I use to be a barista 😉 )
