This survey popped up on Lindsay’s blog this morning and since I still need to upload a video before I can share my San Francisco post with you guys, I figured this would make a fun Friday post in the meantime. You know I love surveys!
1. What did you eat for breakfast?
A whole wheat banana chocolate chip muffin and a cappuccino.
Since I arrived at the San Francisco airport at 4:20 a.m., only one place was open and options were slim. Something is better than nothing and the muffin was tasty. I was hungry two hours later though.
2. How much water do you drink a day?
I’m not sure. I make a conscious effort to drink water and carry a water bottle with me.
3. What is your current favorite workout?
Jess’ Summer Shape Up Program! It’s fast and effective and the workouts fly by. I love it!
4. How many calories do you eat a day?
I have no idea.
5. What are your favorite healthy snacks?
I am a big snacker! You can see some of my go-to healthy snacks in this post: My Favorite Healthy Snacks.
I also cannot resist eating peanut butter or almond butter right out of the jar. It’s still a daily occurrence in my life. So delicious!
6. What do you usually eat for lunch?
I share a lot of my lunches on the blog, so you probably already know the answer to this one. Since I’ve had to eat lunch in the break room at work lately, I’ve gravitated toward meals that incorporate foods that are easy to transport a like tuna salad, fresh fruit and nuts.
7. What is your favorite body part to strength train?
Shoulders!
8. What is your least favorite body part to strength train?
Legs.
9. What are your “bad” food cravings?
I’m not a fan of calling food “good” or “bad” but I’m assuming this question is asking about my favorite indulgent dish and my answer always has been and always will be ice cream.
10. Do you take vitamins or supplements?
I love my gummy vitamins!
11. How often do you eat out?
It varies. We will usually eat out on once or twice on the weekends or on a Friday night.
12. Do you eat fast food?
I don’t eat main meals at fast food chains (I do like Chipotle and Subway though, if you count those), but I will get dessert on the go with Ryan on occasion. I love Dairy Queen Blizzards!
13. Who is your biggest supporter?
Ryan and my dad, mom and sister.
14. Do you have a gym membership?
Yes! But now my membership is free since I work at my gym. A pretty sweet perk!
15. How many hours of sleep do you get a night?
I try to get eight hours of sleep, but most nights I get around seven.
16. Do you have a “cheat” day?
I don’t plan cheat days. By some people’s standards, I probably “cheat” every single day. I just try to make conscious decisions about my food choices for the most part, but I eat crap from time to time, too. Sometimes that happens all week long!
17. Do you drink alcohol?
Yep.
I’m not a big drinker, but I enjoy drinking socially with friends, having a glass or two of wine with Ryan and partying it up from time to time!
18. Do you have a workout buddy?
Does Sadie count?
She’s my favorite running buddy!
Ryan and I go to the gym together, but we usually don’t work out together. When it comes to gym workouts, I’m a lone ranger unless I’m taking a group exercise class. Looove boot camp!
19. What is the best thing that has changed about your life since committing to a healthy lifestyle?
I became excited about fitness.
Before my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer, I felt like I was working out mostly for vanity reasons. I was going through the motions and working out felt like something I had to check off the list. My mom’s diagnosis completely shifted my mindset and made me want to work out for my health. I began reading a lot about fitness and healthy eating and eventually started this blog. From there, I began to discover new workouts I loved (strength training, BodyPump, circuit workouts, interval training) and developed a love for fitness. Now I really enjoy sharing this with others through the blog and through my job at the gym.
20. What was the last healthy thing you did?
Went for a morning run yesterday in San Francisco!

• I had scrambled eggs with tomatoes, spinach, and basil, and some vanilla almond milk to drink after my workout.

• I generally eat out once during the week, and once or twice on the weekend!
• The last “healthy” thing I did was quiet my grumbling stomach with one of my favorite afternoon snacks – cinnamon almonds and a gala apple! Yum!

Kelly says
I’ve said this before, but I am SO GLAD I found your blog. 2012 was a horrible year for me & my life was dictated by pounds, calories, sizes & hours at the gym. I’ve finally recovered (mentally and physically) and your blog is my #1 stop for inspiration. You eat sensibly & you let yourself enjoy life & the incredibly tasty foods that come along with it 🙂 I’m sure I’m not alone in saying this, but you are a HUGE inspiration. Society seems to create the impression that beauty is a one-size-fits all mold, defined by specific numbers. You show that life can be enjoyed and healthy without tracking or counting every single thing. You’re healthy, strong & beautiful & you make a difference in the lives of many of your readers. Hope you have a fun weekend celebrating with the girls 🙂
Laurel says

i can’t express enough how refreshing it is when you say you don’t have a “cheat” meal and cheat everyday. One of my biggest pet peeves is people labeling food as cheat meals, or good or bad. it’s just food and if you eat fast food one day because you wanted it. owell. its not a cheat. it’s eating. it’s living. so thank you for that!

Julie – just wanted to tell you how much I really appreciate your blog! I’ve come across so many other “fitspo” bloggers out there and to be perfectly honest a lot of them only make me feel crappy about myself instead of inspiring me like they’re supposed to. I feel as though the standards that some of them present are impossible for me to live up to while maintaining my sanity. Yours is completely different. I love the fact that you can serve as a great fitness role model for all of us while still staying real. You’re not afraid to admit that you don’t eat perfectly clean all the time and you’re okay with it instead of defending it as your “cheat meals”. You truly inspire me and show me that I don’t have to be perfect in order to live a healthy lifestyle and achieve my fitness goals. I cannot thank you enough 🙂
GiGi Eats Celebrities says
I am really no fan of eating dinner out, unless it’s sushi/sashimi/Japanese or Greek/Middle Eastern since those are the two cuisines I don’t think I can master!! 🙂 That being said, I don’t really go out more than once or twice a week if that. I really love that you have “no idea” how many calories you eat everyday- I am the same way. Many people in my running group are crazy calorie counters and they seem to have really lost the happiness that comes with a delicious, healthy meal. Your fitness survey seems really balanced, both physically and mentally, what an inspiration!
from says
At this time I am going to do my breakfast, once having my breakfast coming yet again to read additional news.

Lauren says
I had coffee for breakfast if it counts! Always coffee.
My current favorite workout is a good arm workout from baking and whisking 😉
I don’t eat out too often but I do love to go to Wegmans or Chipotle from time to time!
I don’t enjoy reading people constantly referring to meals as “cheat” meals or “bad” foods. I became wayyyy too involved with looking at foods as either black and white which ended in a horrible relationship with food. Food should taste good and always be looked at as tasty instead of “bad”. It’s horrible how much things change from reading magazines, newspapers, etc.
Brianna K. @ Hungry Gator Gal says
I just finished a banana split smoothie for breakfast! Into the blender went a frozen banana, frozen cherries, chocolate protein powder, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, a little almond milk, 1/2 cup of plain low-fat Greek yogurt, and a huge handful of spinach. Yum!
