Though I had to drive to the gym from my parents’ house this morning instead of walk like I usually do from our apartment (the horror, I know), I did have this beautiful view greeting me…
Living in St. Pete along the water sure does have its perks.
I drove to the gym and got in a quick workout before my family awoke.
I started my workout with 20 minutes on the treadmill that looked like this:
Minutes | Incline | Pace |
0 – 10 | 1.0 | 6.6 |
10 – 20 | 1.0 | 7.0 |
I then took myself through a total-body weights workout by completing three sets of 15 repetitions of the following exercises:
- Leg extension, 50 lbs. (total)
- Step ups, 15 lbs.
- Shoulder raises, 10 lbs.
- Bicep curls, 15 lbs. (balancing on one leg for the first two sets)
- Deadlifts, 25 lbs.
- Tricep dips, bodyweight
- Ryan’s awesome shoulder move, 8 lbs.
I then kissed two dumbbells and told them I would miss them while I’m in Europe. Okay, not really, but I do enjoy strength training and will miss it a bit while we’re traveling.
At least I’ll have gelato to numb my emotions and make me forget all about it.
Breakfast
As I went to assemble my breakfast this morning, I had my first “I miss you, Ryan” moment of the day when I went to reach for a box of Wheaties toward the back of the top self of my parents’ pantry.
Though I’m a tall girl, I could’ve used Ryan’s 6’2’’ frame to help me out!
I really wanted to try the Wheaties because I never have, but since I couldn’t reach them, I grabbed a box of Honey Bunches of Oats instead which I love solely because of the oat clusters.
I snacked on two small bowls of the cereal before remembering that cereal does nothing to fill me up and decided to make myself a more substantial smoothie instead.
When I asked my family who else was interested in a smoothie for breakfast, I got a resounding “ME!” from everyone.
Smoothies for all!
This was my dad and sister’s first time trying a smoothie made with spinach (my mom tried one at my apartment about a year ago) and both of them were amazed that you couldn’t taste the addition of the greens.
We all agreed that kicking off our vacation on a healthy note feels great!
Now bring on the pastries and pizza!!!
Rumor has it that the Tampa airport has wireless internet, so hopefully I’ll see ya soon for lunch!
Alyssa @ Life of bLyss says
WOOOHOOO! Have so much fun. And hey, just shop around Europe a lot… lugging around your bags can be great “weight training.” 😉
peanutbutterfingers says
Haha good call!
Callie says
Have fun on your trip!
I just got back from two weeks in Amsterdam, and although I really missed the gym too, the hours of walking everyday got me sore in a completely new way!
kristy @ kristyruns says
Yes! Pack in those veggies now because soon it will be all pastries, cheese, and wine. 🙂
Brittany (A Healthy Slice of Life) says
I love seeing people’s faces when you tell them there is spinach in their smoothie! Priceless 🙂
Safe travels!!
Courtney @ Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life says
I think it’s great that your family actually tried your smoothie.I can’t get Jay to come anywhere NEAR one when it’s green…and if I were to ask my parents or brother? Or forget it! They’d have nothing to do with it. 😉
peanutbutterfingers says
Try making him one that is chocolate based so he can’t see the green and don’t tell him! Muhahha!
Courtney @ Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life says
Hahaha…I’ve tried before being sneaky with other things but then I get in trouble. 🙁
Although…I am just looking out for his health, so I DO have a good argument, right???
Ellen @ Cinnamonalicious says
I love that your family were so willling to try! My mum laughed in my face when I made one at home!haha.
Quick question, when you say the weights you use, is that in each hand or in total?
peanutbutterfingers says
In each hand… except for the extensions (that’s total)
Hope says
I think it’s so cute that you made smoothies for your family for breakfast! Your family is so adorable! 🙂 I’ve never tried a spinach smoothie either! I’d be willing to try though. 🙂
Paula @ Eat: Watch: Run says

And smoothies. OMG. I’m so addicted. I think you started this. I blame you, so you know. I have at least one a day. And sometimes I work out so I can have another.

HAVE SO MUCH FUN JULIE 😀
True story: as a child I’d steal all the clusters out of Honey Bunches of Oats and my Dad would complain that “they rip you off with this stuff…they’re all cornflakes”
hehe.

So admire how you’re packing in those veggies before the big trip. Very smart girl! Honey bunches of oats are so much better than Wheaties anyway. But I totally understand why it made you miss your man ;-).
HAVE FUN!

I made my Mom and Dad ‘Green Monsters’ and they too were very surprised that it didn’t taste like grass 🙂 Now, I need to work on getting my fiance to drink ’em.

My husband is 6’8” and I totally miss him when we’re apart. But especially so when I need to reach something off the high shelf! I’m lucky that he’ll always try anything I make, no matter how disgusting it looks. The rest of my family? Not so much
Vivianne says
My mom loves all my smoothies I make.. I’ve also gotten her addicted to oatmeal!
I had my dad try a smoothie and he said…
“Why’s it a funny color”
“because there is spinach in it… you can’t taste it at all though!”
-tries it and makes a disgusted face-
“bleh! I can taste the spinach.”
He is so ridiculous sometimes (; He only likes shakes because they have ice cream in them. He won’t have anything healthy for the life of him if he KNOWS it’s healthy! 😛
Alaina says
I’ve said it twice and I’ll say it again, HAVE A GREAT TRIP!!!! I’m so jealous. 🙂
Caroline says
I’m a newish reader and I’ve never commented, but I just had to today because I’m from St Pete and my family lives on the water there too! I’d recognize that view from any angle! Also, not to be totally creepy, but is that the Vinoy gym? My fam has a membership and I love working out there when I’m at home. It’s small, but so much nicer than the gym up at school. Plus, their steam room is to die for!
Have an amazing trip!!! 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
Hahaha yes!!! My family has a membership there that I use when I’m in town.
Shannon says
Have fun in Europe!

Does their blender work as well as the vitamix?!
peanutbutterfingers says
Haha noooo, but it was a good one. It was a Cuisinart blender.
