I spent the morning taking care of paperwork and some important emails before heading out at 10:30 a.m. to pick up a bunch of hot lunches to deliver to the people on my Meal on Wheels route. I know this blog can turn into Dog City sometimes due to my ridiculous love for Sadie, but I actually have some cat love to spread today.
At my first stop on my Meals on Wheels route, I noticed a cat I had never seen before at the resident’s home. It immediately caught my eye because of its funny ears.
It looked a lot like this:

The owner told me the cat is an American curl and came from the litter of an American curl that was featured on the cover of Cat Fancy a few years ago. How… fancy!
I may not have a cat anymore (we had two cats growing up, but for some reason I developed allergies to cats as an adult), but I know that Cat Fancy is legit! The cat’s name is Sparkler and she was born on the Fourth of July. Apparently all of her brothers and sisters have firework-themed names.
I wonder if they got low on firework names and had to name one Party Popper.

I imagine that a cat named Party Popper would be a little off its rocker and enjoy harassing its owners.
Kind of like someone else I know…
Once I was done delivering meals, I headed home for lunch.
I wasn’t in the mood to put a lot of effort into my meal, so I made myself a mocha protein smoothie, but added a handful of fresh spinach and a scoop of peanut butter to the mix for more staying power.
I ended up using a spoon to eat most of it because it came out so thick. Peanut butter and a frozen banana will do that to a smoothie!
I also wanted something crunchy to eat on the side, so I fixed myself a bowl of kettle corn topped with a few dark chocolate covered almonds.
Easily the highlight of the meal!
Question of the Afternoon
- Have you, your pet or a close friend or family member ever been featured in a magazine?
Julianna @ Julianna Bananna says
i am a total cat lady!! i’ve had cats my entire life and am missing them so much right now (i’m in my first year at college). my mom sends me lots of pictures and videos of my kitties being their usual ridiculous selves that always make me smile.
that smoothie looks so good – i love it when my smoothies are thick enough to eat with a spoon. and dark chocolate covered almonds are always winners 😉
Laura @ RunningJunkie123 says
I was in Fitness magazine about in June of 2010. They did a small before and after because I lost so much weight by eating well and working out.

If only my cat could use a few pounds, she’d be the perfect model for a magazine. Is there a place in the world for plus-sized cat models?
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
That is funny about the cat! I’d like for our family dog to be in a magazine. I think he is just so cute 😉

That cat is so cute! I’ve never seen ears like that!

Hey Julie! How do you prepare your vegetables? I know you did a post on that somewhere but I can’t find it! I am trying to incorporate more veggies into my diet and I figure the best way to start is by making them taste delicious!

I’ve been in a social magazine in Kansas City a few times but that’s not exciting… I’m sure I’ve had family in the news or business magazines… haha also not exciting to me. And that smoothie sounds so good! I need to make more smoothies, and I think they’re best eaten with a spoon!
Beks says
I always joke that my cat, Henry, who is some kind of tabby, not orange, but a tan-butterscotch color, should be a cat model. He’s the prettiest cat, but he’s the biggest Sh*t you’ll ever meet! Seriously. Though he’s gotten a lot better since we started watching “My Cat From Hell” and use that guy’s tricks for taming an annoying cat. Of course, now he’s becoming needy. LOL
Alexa @ Southern Living, Our Way says
I’ve had adorable cats off and on in my life, but dogs are my love 🙂 I’m actually hoping to become a dog trainer in a few years and once had a subscription to Dog Fancy – crazy dog lady to the max!
And that kettle corn-chocolate almond snack looks delicious!
Angela @ Health's Angel says
That smoothie looks so good- and looks ready to spill over onto your table! Random snacky lunches like that are my favorite.

3 things: At first glance I thought you put olives in your popcorn. Girl we would have had to have a little talk.
There’s a couple in the Aviation department at my work and all of their past and present Goldens have airplane themed names (Pilot, Rio, etc).
And my puppy’s father actually WON best in show 2 years ago at AKC/Eukanuba! 🙂

When I was 10, my friend and I wrote a letter to American Girl magazine asking them to write an article on Jonathan Taylor Thomas. They eventually did publish one, and thanked myself, my friend, and a bunch of other girls who had written to request the piece. I thought it was pretty cool, at the time.
