Another Father’s Day is on the horizon! (This year it’s on Sunday, June 18 so if you just started to panic, don’t worry! You still have time!)
I wanted to put together a Father’s Day Gift Guide to share on the blog today like I do every year to hopefully give you guys some ideas for ways to show the father figures in your life that you care and you’re thinking about them on this special day.
As always, I tried to make the gifts featured in this gift guide a mix of personal and practical. Hopefully one or two will pop out at you!
Father’s Day Gift Guide
Ryan and I absolutely love playing music and if a father-figure in your life is a big-time music buff, a portable Bluetooth speaker might make a great gift. We love our portable speaker in our house and during the summer months it’s even more useful during family vacations, backyard BBQs, trips to the beach, pool days and more. (This waterproof speaker is wonderful.) Bring the party with you!
I slipped this book in my dad’s Christmas stocking a couple of years ago and he absolutely loved it! The book was really fun to fill out and I loved the way it felt so personal. I included a lot of fun memories in the book as well as funny jokes thanks to the creative prompts on the pages! (I actually also gave Ryan the What I Love About You version it was a big hit with him as well!)
- Surprise Car Detailing
This may seem like a lame gift but I actually gave it to Ryan as part of his Father’s Day gift last year and he LOVED it! I had someone come to the house to detail his car while we were out and about and he returned to a sparkling clean car and was pretty psyched! (This may have been a bigger hit than usual post-kids because the messiness level of our cars both skyrocketed after Chase was born.)
- Yard Games
When it comes to great gifts, I think a usable gift Dad would likely never buy for himself is a great one! My sister and brother-in-law gave us a corn hole set for Christmas a couple of years ago and we absolutely loved it! We use it all the time during backyard cookouts and warm summer nights when Ryan and I just want to kick back with a beer or a glass of wine at the end of a long day. From Ladder Golf and Bocce Ball to Yard Dice and Lawn Jenga, there are tons of different yard games out there so it’s easy to pick one that appeals to the father figure in your life! An added bonus: Many are customizable so you can have a corn hole set made to represent their favorite sports team, a favorite place/vacation spot, etc. (Check out this Etsy seller’s customized corn hole sets. They’re beautiful!!)
I’m not sure what it is with guys and koozies but a lot of the men I know love koozies and always reach for one when they’re going to open a beer or cold beverage, especially during the summer months! This gift is the perfect combination of useful and personal and somehow looks a little classier than the average cheap-o koozies we’re all used to using.
- Personalized Coasters
Sticking with the beverage theme, personalized coasters are a functional and thoughtful gift for Dad! There are lots of different options and ways to personalize coasters from sports team logos and maps of different states to family photos and initials!
- Plan an Activity You Know He’ll Love
I’ve mentioned more than a time or two that Ryan and I are all about experience gifts in our house so this one is a personal favorite! Take some time to plan out an activity you know the father-figure in your life will love. Is he a baseball fanatic? Take him to a game! Does he love to golf? Plan a day of golf for him and his friends. (Bonus points: Volunteer to be their designated driver!) Could he use a little downtime to relax? Book him a massage. Is he all about family fun? Plan a trip to a nearby beach or lake together. Anything you think he will really enjoy is a great gift!
- Make Something Crafty
Round up the kids and make Dad something crafty to show him you care! (Pinterest has no shortage of Father’s Day craft ideas if you need a little inspiration.) I did my best to copy the photo idea I saw on Pinterest last year and frame the above three photos for Ryan that spelled out D-A-D. He seemed to like this gift a lot and brought it into the office with him to display at work the following week! (Also, you should know that it took me no less than 50+ pictures to get three shareable photos of our almost-one-year-old!)
These socks are pretty much a staple gift for me to give to Ryan on almost any holiday because they are his absolute favorite. I actually have my whole family lovin’ on Bombas because they hug your feet perfectly, stay up and help prevent blisters. Plus, Bombas donates one pair of socks for every pair purchased, so it’s a gift I feel good giving!
Question of the Day
Do you have any Father’s Day gift ideas to share?
Juliette | Namastay Traveling says
Bluetooth speakers seem to be my favorite gift for everyone these days! It’s so functional and people can use it for whatever activity they liked. Love the bright blue color of the one here!
Julie says
It’s definitely a practical AND fun gift. 🙂 I also love that teal color!
Patricia @Sweet And Strong says
I’m like you and always all about the making memories for holidays and celebrations. I will actually be together with my mom, dad, and sisters the weekend after Fathers Day for a wedding so we figured we would treat Dad to a special brunch and let him choose an activity in DC.
Julie says
I am sure he will love that! Hope you enjoy your time together!

I already bought my dad his Father’s Day gift but the “What I Love About You” book when talking about the “What I Love About Dad” book is going on my list of gifts ideas for my boyfriend. Thanks for sharing Julie!

LOVE the photos with Chase and D-A-D letters, so cute, and the type of craft I can actually potentially pull off (I’m pretty much the least crafty person ever….)
Heather @Lunging Through Life says
We have that speaker and love it! Such great gift ideas.

I still have to get my gift, but Im thinking an experience would be fun! Ive heard such great things about those socks!

Hi!
Unrelated to Father’s Day, but related to gift-giving…could you please post a review of the gift you got your sister once you give it to her?
I’m interested in what you/she thinks!
Julie says
Definitely!! I’ll see her next week and will report back!
Molly says
Random and off topic…Zulily has some Nemo/Dory crocs on sale today!
I also ordered a few things off of Zulily when they had their Shark Tank collection for my hubby for father’s day! The shaving catcher that you attach to the mirror and a NFL Packer decal for on his car that lights up!

I usually get my dad something he can cherish forever, like a picture of us, or something hand made. But I am totally loving the idea of the Bluetooth speaker! He loves his music and would totally love that for a gift! Chase with the DAD letters in those pictures is so sweet! Omg!! Adorable!! 🙂 xoxox
Dana says
I saw an idea on shark tank recently, it’s called basic outfitters, you get pairs of socks, t-shirts, underwear, and jogger sweats for $60. Love the idea of getting rid of some of those very faded shirts and socks with holes in them!
Julie says
So smart!!

We always take a trip down memory lane visiting his old family houses & then go peach picking. After peach picking, my sister & I cook dinner for him & make his favorite peach cobbler for dessert. It’s always a fun day.
Julie says
This is so sweet. I love it! Thanks for sharing this idea — and if you have a go-to recipe for peach cobbler, I’d love to try it! We LOVE peach cobbler but I still haven’t found an amazing recipe for it to make over and over again.
Christine says
I love your gift guide posts Julie, thank you for taking the time to do them! They’ve given me some great ideas over the years!
Julie says
I’m so glad to hear this!! Thank you for letting me know!! 🙂

Wireless speakers are so great, I think the hubs would love one!

I’m a little biased on what makes a great gift, but I paint cork maps of the US or world that you can use to “pin” your travels. It’s a super cute idea for tracking all the places you’ve been together as a family, or for dads who travel for work (+ for kids to track where dad is this week!), or to pin where all your loved ones live 🙂 Maps ship the very next day, or add custom text to your map and it will ship in 3 business days! My Etsy store is beentherepinnedthat.com (and please excuse my totally shameless plug)!
Susie @ Mile High Dreamers says
Now that I’m a little older, I’ve realized that experiences mean so much more to my dad than things (not that he’ll turn down a great pair of driving gloves!). He really just loves spending time with his kids. For Christmas, I got him a giftcard to Unser racing (high speed go carts) so we could go together. It was a blast! For his 70th birthday/Father’s Day we’re thinking skydiving… 🙂
Regardless of what the gift is, it’s great to just let our dads know how AMAZING they are!

Such a sweet set of ideas. As the token “dad” on this comment board, I’d also throw in sports jersey or workout clothes which are always fun to get.
I have a question about Ryan’s grandmother. You called her “Bubbee” which is yiddish for “grandmother”. How did that name come about for you all? Based on your posts, it doesn’t sound like Judaism is practiced by your family. I also had a Bubie (diff spelling) who was from the old country, and haven’t had her around since her passing in 1991. You never do forget the love of those women!! Sorry for your loss, (and the other sad events earlier this year which I never commented on as I don’t know what to say)
I hope that you will be on a good upward track going forward, with good memories of her.
Julie says
Hi Alan! I actually asked Ryan’s side of the family this same question and apparently it’s the name she chose for Ryan to call her after she heard someone else call their grandmother “Bubbee” and loved it! 🙂 Thank you for your kind comment and sharing a little bit about your Bubie!

Love the corn hole and portable speaker ideas. I am going with a classic this year……grilling supplies =)
Amanda says
Awh, I LOVE that picture of Chase with the letters. That’s so sweet 🙂

You should check out the photo cubes from Shutterfly! For a guy that has a desk or to put in your kitchen- they are a great gift!!! My dad loves them and I basically give him a photo cube as a gift every year. They are also stackable.
