Today is flying by! After spending the morning finishing a freelance piece, I hightailed it over to Marion Senior Services to deliver lunches to the seniors on my Meals on Wheels route before making it home in time for a quick lunch that I tried to subtly eat while on the phone for a conference call.
I wonder if they could hear me chewing as I polished off the end of a bag of chocolate-covered almonds?
I tried to be discreet!
Lunch also included a MorningStar Farms spicy black bean burger sandwich with Dijon mustard and spring mix greens.
Plus two carrots that I washed and cut into rough pieces to eat on the side.
November
I forgot to say Happy November to you guys this morning! I have a feeling November is going to absolutely fly by since the holiday season seems to kick into gear immediately following Halloween.
We’ll be celebrating our first round of Thanksgiving with Friendsgiving at our house this weekend, but first we have to make it through an obstacle course run!
Ryan and I are getting excited about the Hero Rush, our first 5K obstacle course/mud run that we’re doing with a group of Ryan’s coworkers on Saturday morning. Having never completed an obstacle course/mud run before, I’m not really sure what to expect. I envision a race that is part run and part intense adult version of Field Day.
Please tell me you guys had Field Day in elementary school? It was the best day of the year and featured tons of different outdoor relay races and games. All of the students wore t-shirts representing their class and while I never remember winning a thing, it was always a blast!
Question of the Afternoon
- What are you looking forward to in November?
Amanda @ Romancing the Unusual says
I won a box stacking contest during field day when I was in 5th grade. Clearly, I was an athlete to be jealous of. Box stacking!? 😉
I’m looking forward to running my first half marathon this weekend and Thanksgiving, of course! Bring it on, November!
peanutbutterfingers says
GOOD LUCK to you!!! hope the race goes well!
Kimberly says
Hands down my favorite 5k is this month. They do it right around Thanksgiving but it’s through one of those drive through Christmas light displays at night! It’s amazing and I look forward to it now! AHH so excited just thinking about it!
Emily says
We DEFINITELY had field day in elementary. I loved it! I think my friend and I won a three-legged race one year. 😀
I’m really looking forward to Thanksgiving this year. My husband and I decided this will be the first year that we host the big day. So excited to start healthy traditions in my house! (As in … no fried turkey. haha)
Alexa @ Southern Living, Our Way says
I LOVED Field Day!! And we may or may not have had it far past elementary school, just because everyone loved it so much! Haha no complaints here 🙂
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
Oh yes, track & field day was always a big deal at our school! It was so fun!
I’m most looking forward to my family coming out our way for Thanksgiving! I haven’t seen them since April, and it’s the first time we’ll be hosting since we’ve been married. I’m so excited!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
We had field day! The whole school was split between the red team and the blue team and you stayed on that team your entire time at my school (private school). Although I think your obstacles will be a little more army boot-camp like than field day!
Annette@FitnessPerks says
I think we had field day? Apparently it wasn’t that great? Haha.
YAY for your first time doing an obstacle run. I bet ya all will have a blast 🙂
Mary Babicki says
Aside from eating myself into a food coma on Thanksgiving, strangely enough I also look forward to black friday. Not because I’ll be shopping, but I work part-time in retail at the mall (bath & body works) and that day is always so much fun!
Hayley @ Running on Pumpkin says
Whenever I’m on the phone with my mom she’s always like “I can hear you chewing” hahaha awkward! I am looking forward to going to Hawaii for Thanksgiving! It will be weird not having the typical Thanksgiving that I love having every year, but I can’t complain about going to paradise instead 🙂
Claire says
Field day was my JAM! We all got so competetive. I remember one kid who ran home crying (like, left the field and went to his house in the middle of the school day) because his team lost a tug of war. My slate isn’t exactly clean. I was captain of my kickball team at 5th grade field day, we lost, and I cried while I buried the team roster in the kindergarted garden. I am not ashamed 😀
Lindsay says
I loved Field Day in elementary school! I’m most looking forward to Thanksgiving, and starting to watch Christmas movies 🙂 I make myself wait until Thanksgiving to start watching them or I could start way too early!!
Kate says
I can not wait to hear what you think of the Hero Race!! It is coming to my area Spetember 2013 and I am soooo excited. Best of Luck!!!! : )

Liz @ IHeartVegetables says
That race sounds so fun! I’ve always wanted to do a race like that!
Beks says
We didn’t have Field Day at my school(s). Bummer. Sounds like fun, though.
I’ve got two things I’m looking forward to this month. This weekend, I’m volunteering at Women of Faith with my mom, sister and two of my aunts (Volunteering=Free Admission, Free Souvenirs!), and in about three weeks, I’ll be going to my cousin’s Senior play, Walt Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast,” where he plays the Beast.” I’m so proud (and a little jealous) of him!
Cassie says
I used to love field day! Everyone’s favorite event was the shoe kick contest! untie your shoe and see who can kick their shoe off of their foot the farthest, seriously who comes up with this stuff! I love it!
Jessica says
We had field day in school and I loved it! It was so much fun. I am so sad that my son’s school does not do it.
Lindsey says
Looking forward to seeing my husband newly grown mustache for Movember. Very entertaining and great cause:)
peanutbutterfingers says
ryan does the same thing!
Carol T. says
This is something new to me. Growing up we never had “field day” at our school. I am looking foward to my birthday (11/2) and my wedding anniversary (11/27) in the month of November . Love your blog….:)
Michelle @ Eat Move Balance says
I love Thanksgiving, and my birthday is this month! 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
happy almost birthday, michelle!
Sarah Fit says
I’m looking forward to NOT traveling this month 🙂 PS I love those veggie burgers!
Michelle says
I did a 10k run a few weeks back called to hell and back…we had to cross rivers, climb 10ft walls, go through a swamp, and go up the side of one of the “mountains” in Wicklow. We even had to crawl under barbed wire in thick deep mud! It was epic, and freezing cold but I loved it and felt amazing after!
Heather says
Field Day was awesome! I went to a smaller school so the 8th graders were the “captains” of each team, and then they got a certain number of 7th, 6th, 5th, 4th.. etc. graders on their team. We had the silly events too – dizzy bat, shoe fling, all of it!
Then there’d be a huge rally at the end with the winning team. Best part – everyone got popsicles after! Best day ever! It was always toward the end of the year so it was a great way to feel like summer was coming.
Carol @ Lucky Zucca says
We definitely had field day!! I remember one year we were playing capture the flag and this one kid yelled out “REMEMBER THE ALAMO!!!” hahaha so random and funny. Field day was my favorite day of the year too! You seriously have the best recollection of anyone I know… I feel like everything reminds you of something and I love when you post about it- brings up fun memories!
peanutbutterfingers says
ha!!!! i think talking about and remembering things from childhood is so much fun. 😀
Erica @ For the Sake of Cake says
I definitely remember field day, but I was probably the most unathletic kid at my school so I never went too crazy for it! haha
I’m definitely looking forward to Thanksgiving! And having a few days off of work!
WellHeeledRunner says
In England we had sports day but it was with fun silly races like egg-and-soon race and the sack-race, is that the same?!
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl says

Lisa says
I’m looking forward to spending Thanksgiving in New York and seeing the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Field days were the best! My little brother and I used to practice the water balloon toss in our backyard to prepare every year (its all about cradling the balloon as you catch it!) So, during orientation week my freshman year of college they had a big-kid version with all the incoming freshman…and I came in first place in the water balloon toss! All my practice finally paid off!
Sara says
I’ve been telecommuting and participating in conference calls for almost 10 years. A phone with speaker and a mute button is critical!
My son is getting his tonsils out on 11/19 and I am looking forward to that being over with.
peanutbutterfingers says
i hope everything goes smoothly with your son! good luck to you!
Jen from The Paper Pod says
Good luck with the run! It sounds challenging!

Taylor @ LiftingRevolution says
You’re going to love the mud run they are so much fun! yes, think field day meets army boot camp. The scrapes and bruises are worth it.
Lisa says
Field Day! Best day of the whole school year 🙂 I think the thing I look forward to the most in November is my birthday on the 7th. It’s the one day that I get to spend all to myself and do whatever I feel like doing. I’m so excited!
Christina @ The Beautiful Balance says
I’m looking forward to November because it drops below 100 degrees here! Also, I am a sucker for Fall and Winter ANYTHING.
Maranda says
November is going to be great. I get to finish up in the UK, reunite with my family, and throw my own Friendsgiving (thanks for the idea)! Happy November!
Sonja says
LOVED field day as a kid. We had this strange event called the shoe kick. Basically you kicked your own shoe as far as you possibly could. I won every year…even beating the boys! So, of course, this was my favorite event! 🙂
Pamela Youg says
I love November. This is my favorite time of year. The weather in Tampa is cooling off a bit. My daughter is getting married on the 18th. My birthday is the 22nd. Thanksgivig is my favorite holiday.

Field day was SO much fun. I competed in a Mud Race a few months ago and I can see the comparison, but this Mud Race was way more intense. I was sore for days!! Running in mud is no joke. It was a blast though, have fun!
Lea @ Greens and Coffee Beans says
Those almonds look good! I’m sure if the people on the other end of the phone knew you were eating something that delicious they’d be okay with it.
This November I’m looking forward to me and my boyfriend’s anniversary (6 years!), my roommate’s birthday and of course Thanksgiving!
AJ says
Good luck with your mud run! I did the Tough Mudder recently and I wrote several blog posts about it, including tips (that will be posted tomorrow AM).
Have fun with your Friendsgiving!

I love chocolate covered almonds. I was overweight when I was little so I used to hate field day. I think I’d love it now!
