When the alarm went off this morning, I was wide awake. That almost never happens! I feel like I usually arrive at the gym half awake, so it was nice to feel energetic first thing in the morning. I’ll take it!
This morning I began my workout with a 20 minute elliptical warm up before setting up a little station for myself to complete today’s Best Body Boot Camp workout. There is limited free floor space in my gym, so I always try to lay down a mat and grab an exercise ball if I need one to mark my territory, otherwise I’ll have to complete circuit workouts among the weights which makes me feel awkward and in the way.
I loved how my gym in Orlando had a loft space that people could use to complete workouts that required open floor space. Floor space is a hot commodity!
Breakfast
Once we arrived home from the gym, it was time for breakfast.
I made myself whole wheat French toast with cinnamon and inhaled it!
It has been far too long since I’ve had French toast and this breakfast made me way too happy.
First Perfume
With breakfast in our bellies, Ryan and I leashed Sadie up for her morning walk. As we strolled around the neighborhood, we passed two teenage boys walking to the bus stop. We actually smelled them before we saw them because their cologne was so strong! Oh, high school days.
The strong smell of their cologne prompted a conversation about our first perfume/cologne. Ryan said he was all about Curve in high school.
He also said Michael Jordan cologne was quite popular among his friends. As someone who grew up outside of Chicago when the Chicago Bulls were winning billions of championships, Michael Jordan cologne was very popular among the guys I knew as well. Everyone wanted to “Be Like Mike!” (<— I may or may not have this song on my iPod.) When I was in high school I was all about Gap Dream perfume.
Remember that!? Or perhaps you preferred Gap Grass? Or Gap Om?
I also succumbed to the Abercrombie & Fitch trend and had a mini bottle of A&F perfume that was my “special occasion” perfume. So snazzy!
Love’s Baby Soft! Please tell me someone else out there remembers this stuff!
Question of the Morning
- Do you remember your first perfume or cologne?
Though it’s not a perfume, as far as scents are concerned, I also loved Bath and Body Works Sun-Ripened Raspberry body splash. That stuff is like 7th grade in a bottle for me!
Laura @ LauraLikesDesign says
Hahaha, I totally remember Baby Soft! I used to get it in my Easter basket and Christmas stocking! I remember one time I sprayed it on by myself and must have been a litter overzealous with the application because the bus driver stopped me on my way off the bus to say I might want to cut back a bit. I was mortified! haha
Sara @ Magia e Pasta says
I was all about Curve for women! The Gap ones were really popular, too…whenever I catch a whiff of either I feel like I’m back in high school.
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
CK One or Tommy Girl was the way to go back in the day! I remember everyone used to wear either one of those perfumes including myself 😉
julie @ peanut butter fingers says
I remember Tommy Girl!! One of my best friends loved that stuff.
Jackie Macharsky says
Ralph Lauren romance was mine. I still like that scent!
Ali @ Peaches and Football says
I went to summer camp as a kid and one year a girl had this perfume that smelled sooo wonderful. I gave her some money and had her mail me a bottle – it was called Mountain Berry by Naturistics. Funny how your taste in perfume changes over time but every time I smell that I remember summer camp.
We used to get ridiculous discounts on Calvin Klein fragrances at work so I have way too many large, unopened bottles that probably now should just be thrown away!
Lisa says
Oh gosh, I don’t really remember…I think it was that stuff it had a name like so… kiss me…or something. It was like a body spray that smelt disgustingly sweet and overpowering. Ick
That french toast looks amazing! It’s been far too long since I had some last.
Erin G says
Pleasures or Cool Water 🙂 Takes me back!
julie @ peanut butter fingers says
Oh my gosh, I forgot about Cool Water!
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
Definitely Baby Soft then Tommy Girl… lol.
Michele says
I still love Baby Soft! My daughter has a bottle and every time I see it, I spray it all over! Ah the memories of when i was a tween:)
Allison says
Totally forgot about GAP perfume… I wore Gap Grass. HA HA!
Kate M says
I definitely remember baby soft! My sister’s first perfume was Sunflowers, or something like that. Ring a bell? Mine was vanilla body spray. Not sure if that’s a perfume, per se, but I wore it all through middle school and into the beginning of high school. I think I got lazy after that and didn’t wear anything 🙂
Paige @ Your Trainer Paige says
HA! What a great topic. I remember every single guy in junior high smelled like Curve. And I used to looove that Abercrombie and Fitch perfume – that and Blue…I can’t remember who made that one, though.
Laura says
Ahhhh yes to gap dream!!! Obsessed! And bath and body works cucumber melon!
Abby @ Change of Pace says
I always laugh when I can smell young guys from a mile away!
I think my first perfume was the Body Shop’s strawberry or fuzzy peach. They were so good that I wish they still sold those scents!
Stacey says
I didn’t know anyone besides my sister and I knew about Baby Soft! That was our very first perfume growing up too! I also had B&BW sun ripened raspberry and wore both Gap Dream at one point and Gap Heaven. Good stuff! I also remember Curve being THE JAM to the guys in my middle school! They used to bring the stuff to school and have “cologne wars” after gym class! oh the good ol’ days…;)
Kendra says
I remember always wanting the Adidas lady perfume, I don’t remember the exact name, and I don’t know when it was that I actually bought it (high school? college?) but I loved it!..I also remember the Gap Body and Bath and Body works. Sun-rippened raspberry was where it was at! 🙂 Thanks for providing an insta-flash back! And speaking of flashback, our high school perfume was the VS very sexy, but my mom didn’t let me where anything from VS, so it wasn’t ‘my’ perfume!
Marci says
CURVE!!! So embarrassing, but in high school my friends and I loved the smell of men’s curve so much (all the cute boys wore it) that we would spray a ton of samples at the mall and keep them in our purse! I was all about Tommy Girl for myself, I think I had one bottle that lasted me around 5 years.
Rachel says
OMG Gap perfume! Pretty sure I had some type of lotion in the dream scent. My first perfume is still my absolute favorite– Hot by Ralph Lauren. I got it for Christmas freshman year of high school, and eight years later I just can’t seem to let it go! It’s actually been discontinued but I’ve been able to snag a couple bottles to keep in case of emergency.
Was anybody a fan of Victoria’s Secret Love Spell? I never was, personally. But pretty much all my friends were obsessed with it.
Kristen says
Tommy Girl for me & Polo Sport or Drakkar for the guys!!!!
Megan says
Love’s Baby Soft! Oh memories! 🙂 The Gap perfumes were always popular but girls in my high school were really into Victoria’s Secret Love Spell…I never jumped on that band wagon but every time I smell it, it takes me right back to good ol’ Cathedral High haha
Tiff @ Love Sweat and Beers says
Ahhh! We’re perfume twins. Hahah. I remember that baby soft stuff. My mom put some in my stocking one year for Christmas, but I wasn’t a big fan. I then moved on to Gap Dream, which I actually still like. My current fav is Clinique Happy Heart.
Charlotte @ Commitness to Fitness says
LOL omg Grass by Gap just transported me back to middle school- that was my first perfume. That little blast from the past just made my day! Awesome topic!
Britani Sidwell says
OOOOH Man. My sisters and I had SEVERAL bottles of Love’s Baby Soft! I was also a huge fan of CK One, Cool Water, and Bath and Body Works Cucumber Melon back in the Middle School Days.
Then forever, in High School, it was Clinique Happy for a parfume Victoria’s Secret Love Spell for a splash. My first serious boyfriend told me it made me smell like a Starburst candy. The good ‘ol Days 🙂
Kaitlin @4loveofcarrots says
I loved Gap OM!! I was so sad when they discontinued it! My first perfume was Abercrombie and now the smell makes me want to vomit!!
Meghan @ After the Ivy League says
Floor space at my gym is basically a non-existent commodity! So tough to find space. And my first perfume was Clinique Happy..I remember it well! I felt like such a grown-up when I started wearing perfume! haha
Morganne @ Nut Butter Runner says
Oh man it took me a couple minutes to remember my first perfume! I definitely succumbed to Hollister’s perfume as my first, but I was also a big fan of Abercrombie and of course Gap! Loved this post!
Heather says
AHH I had that same perfume….Gap Dream. I think I kept the bottle haha…..Also Clinique Happy a few years down the road then I discovered Bath and Body works and Victoria Secret as well, I’ll end there because now that I think about I had a new smell every week! 😉
Katy says
Talk about a walk down memory lane! Clinque Happy is the first one I can remember…ha ha…but I know I had Tommy Girl and Abercrombie 8 also
Bethany says
OH yea. I loved Baby Soft and it was my first perfume too. I also had a friend who LOVED GAP dream in middle school, honestly I still like that smell! I really loved the Girls Curve as well. Oh the good ol days.
Emma says
I remember Baby Soft! I remember my first perfume was Adidas, I wonder if they still make that stuff! In high school, it was Victoria’s Secret Dream 🙂
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
My first perfume was also that Gap stuff, I think I had Dream and Heaven?? And I feel you on the floor space thing, our open space doubles as the room for group classes, so if there’s a class in there I have to go up to the free weights area and it’s so awkward to do the BBB workouts there!
Jenn says
Oh wow talk about flashbacks! Love’s Baby Soft was my first perfume and then I had an actual perfume from Bath & Body Works, I forget what it was called but it wasn’t one of their body wash/lotion scents. Tommy Girl always takes me back to early college days. PS I have the same issue with space at my gym, I usually do my circuit workouts at home because I always feel so awkward at the gym. I really need to get over that!
Tia says
Love’s Baby Soft was my first perfume; now my girls use it too! It’s the best. 🙂
Sara says
Oh my gosh, I loved Dream!!!! It brings me back to the good ol’ days 🙂 I think my actual first perfume wasn’t really a pefume. It was the spray perfumes from bath & body works – or something like that. When I finally realized smelling like a walking strawberry wasn’t the coolest thing I started using my mom’s Clinique perfume. Sooo much more grown up 😉
Krystina says
Omg you totally just sent me down memory lane! I definitely had the Gap Dream perfume, had a bottle of Abercrombie Now that I used for special occasions, and I definitely think my first bottle of “perfume” was Baby Soft too! I also remember the collection of Bath and Body Works and Victoria’s Secret body sprays and lotions I had! That was like THE birthday gift to give in middle school!
Liz L. says
Love’s Baby Soft…that was my first perfume! Also, Debbie’s Gibson’s Electric Youth perfume…I am probably dating myself with that one 🙂
Linz @ Itz Linz says
haha bath and body works sun ripened raspberry body splash – totally remember that stuff!!! my first real perfume was either Gap’s “Heaven” or Calvin Klein’s “CKb”
Nicole G says
Oh my gosh Tommy Girl was the best- and I always had Gap Dream as a standby. There was also this vanilla musk perfume that I was obsessed with!
Marcy says
Malibu Musk and Exclamation!
Carly @ Snack Therapy says
I started out with “Sweet Pea Body Splash” from Bath and Body Works and eventually moved onto Clinique Happy, which I loooved. The smell still brings me back to middle school. Mmmmm.
Kim @ Cooking in the City says
I was also all about that Gap Dream perfume and B&BW’s scents… although if we want to go WAY back, Limited Too made sets of glitter lotion and body spray that I know I really enjoyed in 5th grade… Cotton Candy, I think?
Lauren @ Berry Sweet Lauren says
Curve for women! And I totally remember guys loading up on cologne in high school, it was the ‘cool’ thing to do I guess!
Nicole @ Fruit 'N' Fitness says
This so reminded me of middle school, gap perfume and bath and body works made the girls bathroom smell all the time! I used to use one of the Brittany ones too, so classy. Now I get so annoyed when people have on lots of scents.
Katrina says
I was also all about Cool Water for Women…I smell that and it instantly takes me back to high school. Bath and Body Works Sun-Rippened Rasberry was also my go-to scent in middle school…my gymnastics coach used to yell at us because we would spary so much in the locker room before practice that the whole lobby would smell like a Sun-Rippened Rasberry.
Natalie says
Haha I remember when my high school bf wore Curve. I used to wear Gap dream too! And Abercrombie or Hollister perfume was for dates and prom 😉
Nicole says
I think every girl had Love’s Baby Soft at some point. And you made me laugh, remembering the Gap Dream. Then I moved on to Philosophy something. But now, it just all makes me sneeze. So Bath and Body Works lotion and that is it.
The Kidless Kronicles
Kim says
Calgon Hawaiian Ginger body mist, whenever I smell it, it reminds me of junior high. Also loved Bonne Bell/Lip Smaker’s vanilla body spray, and am still convinced that if I could find it today I would buy it.
Tara says
This might show my young age but my favorite and first perfume was Gucci Envy Me!
Emily says
OMG Gap Dream!!! Haha EVERYONE had that. My first perfum was Lucky You, I don’t even know if they still make it. But by high school, our entire gym class was sharing Love Spell from VS.
So funny how when you smell them you remember the time frame, too!
Sue says
I remember Love’s Baby Soft and Heaven Scent perfume (I’m old)!!! I remember my mom finally letting me wear perfume. I think I got some for Christmas one year. Thanks for the memories.
Sue
P.S. I have a 16 year old daughter and I remember when she first started wearing perfume my husband almost died when she came out of the bathroom. We had to tell her that “less is more” sometimes. He said it smelled like a “French Whore House.” My sister has two boys and you can smell them a mile away too sometimes. I think they use Axe or something like that. LOL.
