As expected, I had a berry good time this afternoon!
Woohoo for the Florida Strawberry Festival!
Late this morning, Ryan and I piled into his car and drove about an hour to Plant City for our very first trip to the Florida Strawberry Festival.
We knew to expect rides, games and all kinds of fair-type foods, including all the fried foods you can dream of!
Fried cookie dough? Fried butter!?
Our fried food mission was to find me an elephant ear. I had never even heard of elephant ears (basically a solid funnel cake for those of you also not in the know) until Ryan mentioned them to me a long time ago. We’ve seen funnel cakes galore at various events, but never an elephant ear and it’s been on my “must try” list for way too long.
Today was the day!
As demonstrated by my powdered sugar-covered sun dress, I think I liked it.
The strawberry festival had so many neat things to look at and eat. I felt like we were pointing at something new to see every second. From rides to games to animals to delicious-looking treats, the festival was really fun and very entertaining.
I made a friend.
Yes, that is a booth for doughnut burgers!
I’ve honestly never seen anything like the food at this festival. It was intense!
We played one game at the Strawberry Festival but mostly just enjoyed walking around and exploring the fairgrounds.
Of course we purchased our fair share of yummy food, including his and hers strawberry shortcake!
So, so good! We both licked our bowls clean.
Other treats included homemade root beer…
Kettle corn…
And strawberry and pineapple soft serve!
I liked all of our treats! We picked some good ones!
We browsed around and had fun goofing off for a couple of hours before finding our way back to our car.
He makes me laugh.
Yeehaw!
Such a fun day! Apparently I was quite pooped after walking around for so long because I fell asleep on the car ride home. I’m an awful passenger on long car rides because I always fall asleep if the destination is more than 30 minutes away. It makes no sense to me because I’m a terrible napper!
Time to make a late lunch/early dinner. We both ate a ton of kettle corn which ruined our appetites for lunch at the festival, but now we’re feelin’ hungry.
I hope you’re enjoying your weekend!

I’ve never heard of that kind of elephant ear. My family called the extra pie crust that you trim off once it’s in the pan elephant ears. You just sprinkle it with a little sugar and cinnamon and bake it for a few minutes. Since you’ve cut it around the pie pan and the edges are jagged, they actually look like elephant ears. Yours looked pretty tasty, too, though.

LOL, I meant March. I guess I’m stuck in the past–although you wore shorts then too.

It’s funny, in New England, your “elephant ear” is called fried dough and we call these elephant ears: http://whatscookingamerica.net/Cookie/PalmierCookies.htm

Looks like a delicious day! I’ve never heard of elephants ears, but I’m from Canada and they remind me of beavertail pastries! Beavertails are a yummy, classic Canadian treat – President Obama even made a special stop to get one during his first trip to Canada after his inauguration.

A party that exists solely to celebrate the awesomeness of the strawberry? I’m so there! Of course, if it were here, we’d have to use frozen berries and wear our winter coats. Your party’s sun and warmth are infinitely better.
