As expected, I had a berry good time this afternoon!
Woohoo for the Florida Strawberry Festival!
Late this morning, Ryan and I piled into his car and drove about an hour to Plant City for our very first trip to the Florida Strawberry Festival.
We knew to expect rides, games and all kinds of fair-type foods, including all the fried foods you can dream of!
Fried cookie dough? Fried butter!?
Our fried food mission was to find me an elephant ear. I had never even heard of elephant ears (basically a solid funnel cake for those of you also not in the know) until Ryan mentioned them to me a long time ago. We’ve seen funnel cakes galore at various events, but never an elephant ear and it’s been on my “must try” list for way too long.
Today was the day!
As demonstrated by my powdered sugar-covered sun dress, I think I liked it.
The strawberry festival had so many neat things to look at and eat. I felt like we were pointing at something new to see every second. From rides to games to animals to delicious-looking treats, the festival was really fun and very entertaining.
I made a friend.
Yes, that is a booth for doughnut burgers!
I’ve honestly never seen anything like the food at this festival. It was intense!
We played one game at the Strawberry Festival but mostly just enjoyed walking around and exploring the fairgrounds.
Of course we purchased our fair share of yummy food, including his and hers strawberry shortcake!
So, so good! We both licked our bowls clean.
Other treats included homemade root beer…
Kettle corn…
And strawberry and pineapple soft serve!
I liked all of our treats! We picked some good ones!
We browsed around and had fun goofing off for a couple of hours before finding our way back to our car.
He makes me laugh.
Yeehaw!
Such a fun day! Apparently I was quite pooped after walking around for so long because I fell asleep on the car ride home. I’m an awful passenger on long car rides because I always fall asleep if the destination is more than 30 minutes away. It makes no sense to me because I’m a terrible napper!
Time to make a late lunch/early dinner. We both ate a ton of kettle corn which ruined our appetites for lunch at the festival, but now we’re feelin’ hungry.
I hope you’re enjoying your weekend!
Looks like SO much fun! I would’ve definitely hit up that fried cookie dough ! I’m the same, long car rides make me pass out!
All those treats look SO good, especially the elephant ear! My dad used to man the funnel cake booth every year at our local hospital fair. That stuff is straight up crack!
FUN! I just hit up your page because I found myself craving funfetti cookies and I needed your cake mix recipe and look what I found!!??? A much better idea for a Saturday afternoon! Beats my laundry and rainy day here in Toronto, Canada. LOL
Looks like a blast and the donut burgers look crazy..
wow! Who even KNEW those existed?
I have never heard of an elephant ears?! yum!
And donut burgers?! WOW! Looks like a fun Saturday!
that donut burger looks absolutely disgusting!!! but very fitting for fair food 🙂 i haven’t had an elephant ear in years! they are tasty! you are too cute BTW!
Looks like our NC state fair, with all the wild fried foods! So fun!!
Your soft serve matched your purse 😉
love the dress!
That looks like so much fun! Is an elephant ear another name for regular friend dough? Us in Boston have Fried Dough stands just about everywhere! They are so good with powdered sugar and cinnamon, but I’ve seen some crazy toppings that I found ruined the whole snack…like bacon, or pickles, eek! . But, to each their own lol. I’m glad you had fun!
Did you come home with strawberries?? I’m confused! LOL
3 things: 1. I too am a horrible passenger b/c I always pass out! 2. your dress is so cute 3. I want that soft serve and kettle corn- YUMm! looks super fun, Julie 🙂
aw! i loved this post! i’m from florida and i miss it so much, so it’s nice to see something that really reminds me of home:)
and i totally always get powdered sugar all over the place lol!
I am SO jealous of the weather down there! It’s been snowy/rainy and cold up here in Vermont and it will be several months before I can go out in a sun dress like you!
You two are so cute! What a fun day in the sun! I love your dress…I hope it makes your Fashion Page. 🙂
I think I could tons of strawberries! They’re my favorite summer fruit 🙂
So. Much. Fun. Did your elephant ear have cinnamon too? The one I ate a few years ago here in Arkansas did and was so sweet I could only finish a quarter of it!
I’m the exact same way in long car rides, after 30 minutes I’m out like a light – even though I pride myself in never needing a nap during the day. I’m sure my fiancé loves having control of the radio, though!
We tried a doughnut burger at our state fair this year! it was suprisingly not too bad!
I can’t help but fall asleep in the car, too! Something about the road just lulls me to sleep!
P.S. I’m swooning over the strawberry shortcake! I love that stuff!
Fried cookie dough? Fried butter!? = that is what fairs and festivals are all about!!
love those kinds of things, the animals, rides, games, oh this looks like a fun day!!
napping in the car…I know what you mean, sometimes you just have to get some zzzzz’s!
Oh my goodness, that stawberry soft serve looks so good!! I love going to little fair’s like that; so much fun! I like watching all the kids going crazy for games and treats and stuff! It looks like you guys had an awesome time! 🙂
elephant ears remind me of soapapillas! Never heard of a strawberry festival before…fun!
I’m so glad you loved the Strawberry Festival. I’m in the Tampa area and go every year!! I’m going tomorrow…you got me all excited! 🙂
Thanks for the post..I am from Plant City…living in DC. now, My hubby is in the Navy….I miss the festival so much~! Glad you had fun.
Awww! Looks like so much fun! And your dress is super cute!
Wow all that food looks amazing! I always fall asleep in the car too. It takes me about 20 minutes, no matter what time of day it is. I blame my parents… they used to drive me around to get me to stop crying and fall asleep when I was a baby.
I love going to the strawberry festival in California. So much fun and so many good things to try!
wait, reeses peanut butter funnel cake? does that EXIST? or is it my eyes?
They even had red velvet funnel cake!!
Great blog post as always! I’ve passed on a blog award to you… Please do drop by my place and check it out if you have time!
Aw, what a fun festival! Y’all sure did get lots of yummy-lookin treats… that softserve is just so colorful and pretty!
BTW, what exactly is a “doughnut burger”…? Please don’t tell me there is meat involved… that combo doesn’t exactly sound too promising… eek!
Looks like so much fun! You’ve definitely encouraged me to hit up the next fruit festival I come across. It’s so different to see how warm the weather must be there for our sundress — I’m still in pants and long sleeves here in middle TN. 🙂
This looks like so much fun- I can’t wait until it gets warm in Wisconsin and I get to do fun things like this :). P.s. I am loving that dress- so adorable!
Your originally from the midwest and never heard of, not to mention NEVER tried an Elephant Ear!!! Disappointed…….glad you finally got the chance to atleast give it try
What a fun day!! Looking at your blog every day makes me sooo eager for warm weather! 😀
My mom used to take me to the Strawberry Festival EVERY year. I loved it! And I don’t like strawberries in any way, but I LOVED their strawberry soft serve there. SO delicious.
You make me want to go again!
Oh, on a completely unrelated side note, my friend bought a Groupon for a car detailing like you did and got the upgrade…and the place totally didn’t do the inside of her car either. I am definitely warned off of those Groupons! Not sure if it was the same place or not, but sheesh.
Sounds like a great time!! We have food like that at the county fair….us mississippians don’t mess around with our fried food! =P the fried butter is even served w/ honey!
Hope you have a great weekend!
WOW, that is some intense fried food! Not sure I’d be up for that but I’d be all over the strawberry and pineapple soft-serve!
What a great sundress!! I am so ready for warm weather in the Midwest. The festival looks like it was a blast!!
A doughnut burger?! That’s something that should be on thisiswhyyourefat.com 😛 I always get powdered sugar everywhere when having funnel cakes, too!
Looks like fun! My hubby introduced me to Elephant Ears when we were first married and now we HAVE to get them every year at the Fair. Yum!
Oh, how I love elephant ears! They are soooo yummy and here in the Southwest they are everywhere. I have yet to taste a krispy kreme/hamburger but my brother loves these….me, I am not yet brave enough to try one. Sounds like you had a great time!
that festival sounds like fun! and lots of yummy treats!
I can’t believe that was your first Elephant Ear! Glad to see you enjoyed it! I am impressed by how much food you can put down, girl! I mean, I can eat, but I think you could give me a run for my money! 😀
I love festivals and all the amazing treats that go with them, especially funnel cakes or deep-fried anything, for that matter 🙂
All your treats look sooo yummy. i’m especially jealous of the root beer, I’m a root beer fiend! Doughnut burgers sound like a heart attack waiting to happen!! Glad you had a fun day, hope you have a good rest of the weekend 🙂
aww festivals are so fun! and the food looks amazing.
Ohmygosh, that festival looks like a bunch of fun! Plus the fried-food looks so…different. I’m always a sucker for the fried Oreos. 😉
Looks like so much fun! You look adorable!
An elephant ear is not truly an elephant ear unless it’s dripping with melted butter and covered with cinnamon and sugar! Yum yummy 🙂
Pineapple and strawberry soft serve?! I would faint on the spot. Looks like a really good time! We have a strawberry festival every june, but it’s really tiny. I just go for the desserts 🙂
Deep fried butter???! Oh. Em. Gee. Somewhere in the world every cardiologist is dying just a little…
A question about your curls, do you put hairspray on them after you curl? Or do they stay in by themselves?
