We are definitely in Florida’s weather sweet spot right now. Ryan and I are trying to soak up every minute of the 60 – 70 degree weather because we know ridiculously hot temperatures are on the horizon.
When Ryan and I arrived home from work yesterday, we knew we had to take advantage of the gorgeous evening and head outside for a quick hike on our favorite trails.
Sadie came along, of course, and coerced us into lots of hugs and kisses along the way.
Though most of the time Sadie is content to sprint about and sniff everything in sight during our hikes, she inevitably tries to bait us into a game of fetch a few times during every hike.
When it comes to playing fetch, Sadie doesn’t discriminate against any stick out there and brings us everything from a tiny piece of mulch to a tree branch that is two times her size. She’s an equal opportunity player.
Once we arrived home from the trails, Ryan grilled burgers for dinner and we ate while watching House of Cards which completely sucked us in. We watched an embarrassing number of episodes last night and oh my gosh the first episode of season two!?!?! I think we both gasped aloud! The show is officially taking over our evenings and our respective books have been sitting our our nightstands untouched all week. (I just started reading After Her.) Please tell me some of you out there are addicted to this show, too!
Breakfast
Ryan and I slept in because we were up late last night for no good reason other than our desire to watch five million episodes of House of Cards. I am hoping to squeeze in my workout right after I publish this post before I have to teach.
Breakfast this morning began with a glorious cup of coffee.
I also made another one of my green protein pancakes but it fell apart during the flipping process, so it looked even more strange than it usually does, which I didn’t think was possible.
Gotta go!
See you crazy kids after lunch!
Jamie @ Sometimes Healthy Living Blog says
Slightly envious of those Florida mild temps right now. Omaha is just all over the map with its weather.
As for Sadie, she reminds me so much of the lab that I had when I lived in upstate New York. Just give him a stick and he was one happy guy 🙂
I’m going to pin that protein pancake, because as weird as it looks, every time I see it on your blog I want to make it more and more!
Megan says
Ahh I hear you on our Omaha weather! I’m actually heading to Florida (Clearwater Beach area) next week for my destination wedding and I loved seeing this post on the beautiful weather!
Abby says
I am also obsessed with House of Cards…and my exact reaction to Season 2, Episode 1 was “WAIT, THAT WAS A JOKE, RIGHT?!” And then you realize…it wasn’t. So addicting!
Julie says
I know!!!!!!! I was SHOCKED.
Allison says
I HAD THE SAME REACTION!!! We just watched that episode too and could not compose ourselves haha!
Julie says
Insane, right!?!
Amanda says
We just finished episode 1 of season 2 last night as well… so crazy. Interestingly enough, I paused episode one about 30 seconds before that happened on Tuesday to be finished on Wednesday. What a way to start the show!
Julie says
No way! Ha! I bet that was a shocker!
Katie says
Julie, I just came across your post, and I have tell you that the same thing happened to my husband two weeks ago with House of Cards. We watched the whole two seasons on Neflix in about 10 days. We never seemed to get enough.
Now I’m going to be waiting with bated breath by the time that Season 3 is here, and then I hope nothing is on the agenda for the next few days because I will be plopped in front of our computer getting my fill of Frank and Claire Underwood!
Julie says
Ha!! Glad we are not alone! We can’t stop!! It totally draws you in!
Kasey Lederle says
You have to binge watch House of Cards…there is just no other way. We watched all of Season 2 the weekend it came out, and now we can’t wait for Season 3 🙂
Sadie is adorable! She reminds me of my lab when he tries to play fetch with sticks that are way to large, and I get a kick out of watching him try to run with it in his mouth.
Enjoy the weather!
Donna says
Does Sadie always try to get you to pick her up? Our Vizsla does too! It’s like all Vizslas have the same character traits! It’s almost scary! I follow the Vizsla page on FB and it cracks me up how much they all do the same things and act so human like! LOVE IT!
And, my husband and I are totally addicted to House of Cards!!
Julie says
Yes!! Too funny! They really are “velcro dogs!”
Chrissy @pinkpolishandrunningshoes says
That first episode of season two of House of Cards was crazyyyy. I actually said “noooooo” out loud when my boyfriend and I watched it and the big shock happened. Also, 60-70 degree weather sounds amazing. It was 19 degrees out when I got in my car this morning 🙁
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
Abh I love the picture of Sadie with the giant stick! My brither’s golden retriever LOVES giant sticks, especially free branches that have fallen… It’s horribly entertaining to watch her try and drag those around
Brooke D says
My husband and I recently started watching House of Cards and are also addicted. I just love how I’m always rooting for Frank even though he’s so evil.
Julie says
Me too! He’s a terrible person… and yet I find myself pulling for him.
Chelsea @ A Fit LittleOne says
Love how loveable and full of life Sadie is!! I have yet to watch House of Cards, but my boyfriend said his roommates were watching it and that it was actually good. I’m thinking this summer when we have nothing to do we’ll watch it 🙂
Josefine says
Sadie is so cute and seems like so much fun to be around!
Are you still going to recap your sisters wedding?
Julie says
Yes!! Just waiting on the pics from her photographer. 🙂
Marissa says
Episode 1 of season 2 was crazy!!! i was so in shock. Do not feel bad at all about watching so many episodes… i was done with season two in two day. TWO DAYS!!
Now that I have to wait until 2015 for season 3 i’ve picked up a new show, Scandal. Warning: this shows is JUST AS addictive as house of cards. 🙂
Lexie says
We are almost done with the second season! I think we only have one episode left. We have been binge watching House of Cards and Revenge. If you haven’t watched that show it is good too!
Natalie Wolfe says
Love House of Cards!! It gets even more ridiculous…such a great show!
Sadie is adorable. Have a wonderful day!
Jessica @ Fit Talker says
I just started watching house of cards (only 3 episodes in) so now i’m really intrigued about season 2.
Love sadie and the huge stick, so cute!
Julie says
The show just keeps getting more and more intriguing!
Kaelene @Unlocking Kiki says
I was in shock after the first episode of season 2! That show has more than sucked me in so your not alone!
Ali says
I love when the ideal temps of wherever you live come! I’m in Denver and they are starting here too – 60’s. For me, that’s the best.
Sarah @ Sarah Sincerely says
Amen to the weather! Hopefully, we just had our last (fingers crossed) cold snap in Alabama. Temps for the next week are supposed to be smack dab in the mid 70’s = perfection! Ok, I think our next show is going to need to be House of Cards. We’re always on the lookout for a new show to suck us in. 😉
Anna says
Ahhh what I would do for grilling weather right now!
Your cup of coffee looks so good, I want to grab it out of the screen! Just looking at that frothy milk relaxes me. How do you make it?
We watched the first three episodes of season 1 of House of Cards way back when it came out and I couldn’t get into it, but now all I hear is how intense and amazing it is, so I guess I’ll have to wait for a free weekend and take the leap!
Ashley says
My boyfriend and I are about halfway thorugh Season 2 of House of Cards. We are OBSESSED!! And I screamed out loud during the 1st episode of Season 2. Insane.
Mia @ MakeMeUpMia says
I’m making the move from Oklahoma to Florida this year and can’t wait to be at the beach! I love Florida 🙂 I’m kind of hoping our house sells quick so we can avoid moving in the dead heat of summer haha.
Katie says
House of Cards was designed for binge watching. I don’t think the show would be a standout without Kevin Spacey. I find myself simultaneously routing for and cursing the Underwoods. I can’t wait to see how it all falls apart.
Julie says
Same here! They are so awful… and yet I find myself pulling for them!
Jackie says
My dog is the same. He will chase after socks if they look like a ball haha!
Meg says
I have heard good things about House of Cards… that may be the next show my boyfriend and I will have to start watching after we finish the Breaking Bad series 🙂 Your green protein pancakes remind me of The Grinch for some reason haha!
Leah @ goodnightcheese says
Completely addicted to House of Cards. Now I’m just sad the next ones don’t come out for 11 months!
I know the episode you’re talking about, and I’m pretty sure I screamed. I was thinking, “Is that going to happen? It seems like they’re setting up for that to happen? No, they wouldn’t do that.” And they did.
Amelia says
Oh, I really hope the weather holds on until I visit next month! My husband and I will be in Orlando the weekend of April 12th and I am looking forward to *hopefully* comfortable temps and not the sticky humidity. PLEASE LAST!! Ha!
House of Cards is SO GOOD! We plowed through the entire thing in an embarrassingly short period of time. Rumor has it though, that they are not going to start filming for the next season until spring 2015! Oye, I don’t know if I can wait!!
Micaela says
Julie, I just started watching House of Cards last weekend and I’m hooked. The show is so addicting. I have a couple of episodes left in season one, but you have me dying now to see Episode one of season 2!
Julie says
Ahhh!! Just you wait!! It only gets better!
Traci says
House of Cards is so addicting and I had the same reaction to episode 1. My mouth literally dropped open and I never do that. I think my boyfriend and I went through season 2 in a week and a half or less. I need season 3 now.
Courtney says
My husband and I got a roku for Christmas so we stream netflix now. We are also obsessed with House of Cards, and I have a crazy Vizsla!
Julie says
Yayyyy for vizslas!
Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie says
Omg I can’t even handle Sadie’s cuteness. That stick is huge!!
Kanoe says
I just finished my own House of Cards binge!!! It’s unreal how quickly that show reels you in! Netflix really did it with that show, and their other original series “Orange is the New Black” is equally amazing!
Marissa @ Barefoot Colorado says
Have you read any other books lately? I’m looking for a new book to read and would love some recs.
Kelly @ The Fit Skool says
I have heard amazing things about House of Cards! I need to start watching. Right now we are hooked on Scandal through netflix!
Shel@PeachyPalate says
Send some of your heat our way…still about 4 degrees here in Ireland! LOVED the heat in florida but I guess having it all the time is hard to deal with!
Ali says
Jacksonville weather has been a bit colder, but I’m looking forward to a weekend in the low 70s! House of cards is one of our favorites too! I didn’t think it was possible, but I do think the Underwoods are gaining intensity with each episode!
Rachael Sofie says
I can’t stop laughing at Sadie with that huge stick. HILARIOUS.
Laura@ The Healthy Sooner says
Sadie is so hilarious! I loooove all the pics you post of her. And my husband and I are totally addicted to House of Cards, too…the start of season 2 was crazy!
Lauren says
I noticed Ruelala has a deal for Blue Apron meals today. After seeing pictures of your meals with the plan, I might have to check it out 🙂
em@simplypresent says
Green protein pancakes? Interesting!
My boyfriend and I are hooked on ‘House of Cards’ as well. We’re about halfway through the first season.
Cate @ Mangoes Margarita says
Your HoC tv-watching pattern was definitely me + my husband about a month ago… we started season 1 on a Friday night and had finished season 2 by the following week. I love it partly b/c I’m originally from the DC area, so I’ve always wondered if people from outside the area become just as addicted. Glad it’s not just my hometown <3 that makes this a good show 🙂
Get ready for the last few episodes of the season 2… things get a little weird…
Katie C says
HAHA! I know exactly what you mean. I literally screamed “THIS IS NOT HAPPENING”…. 😉
Chelsea @ Chelsea Eats Treats says
I love House of Cards! I just finished Season 2 last night, and now I’m depressed that I have nothing to watch. Haha!
Cate says
Your HoC watching schedule was pretty much me + my husband about a month ago! We finished both seasons in about a week and a half… we were anti-social hermits during that time!!
I got sucked in immediately since I grew up in the DC area and wondered if that was the reason behind my addiction… always glad to get re-affirmation it’s just a great show 🙂
Get ready for the last few episodes of season 2… things get a little weird…
Dana says
My boyfriend and I just started watching House of Cards this week and we watched I think 4-5 episodes last night, we just had to know what happened next! I’m trying to get my boyfriend to be the enforcer though and turn it off after one episode because there are only 2 seasons on netflix and I want to try to pace it out to enjoy it longer. Will that happen though… probably not…
Allie @ Running on Peanut Butter says
haha that pancake, love it!! I LOVE these kinds of posts. I am so nosey haha, no I’m not, but really I am. I love seeing and hearing about the things that you do together and with Miss Sadie!
Kelly @ Kelly Runs For Food says
I’m obsessed with Scandal and heard that I need to watch House of Cards if I like that show, so I’m pretty sure I know what my next Netflix obsession will be. We’re supposed to be in the 60s next week here in VA and I can’t wait!
Megan @ The Skinny-Life says
Your green protein pancake cracks me up every time. It’s so green!
emily says
love house of cards! my boyfriend and i spent many late nights devouring that show!!
Tayler says
Season 2 only gets better! My fiancé and I may have watched all of season 2 in two days…. it sucks you in. We are rewatching for things we have missed the first time through, so good!
Amber @ Busy, Bold, Blessed says
Ok fine, you’ve convinced me to watch House of Cards! Everyone has been talking about it, apparently I need to watch it.
My paleo pancakes always look so weird… they taste great, but they never flip well!
Katie C says
I am SO IMPRESSED no one put any spoilers in the comments! My boyfriend and I definitely binge watched the 2 seasons within 2 weeks (embarrassing… or impressive?) and afterwards we didn’t quite know what to do with our evenings. Can ‘t wait for season 3…..
Erica says
I made the same breakfast this morning, but my recipe didn’t have almond butter or oats. My recipe calls for a banana. I think your recipe sounds better! Do you just eat them plain? I added a little maple syrup, but hoping I can get a recipe that I can eat plain. My 3 year old refused to eat green pancakes. I thought he would think eating something green would be cool. Not so much! Ha! We will keep trying…. 🙂
