When we arrived home from yesterday’s indoor triathlon, Ryan and I were on a workout high. Neither of us felt like relaxing just yet and since we were amped, we decided to head out and run some errands.
Last Sunday we went through a ton of stuff in our house and ended up with several bags of unwanted clothes, shoes and accessories. Our first stop was to Plato’s Closet, to see if we could sell anything to the consignment shop before taking everything to Goodwill.
Since the crowds were pretty intense yesterday, we were told it would be about an hour until they had a chance to look through all of our stuff. To waste some time, Ryan decided to get a haircut at the Hair Cuttery down the way while I wandered into TJMaxx. Ryan joined me after his haircut and we had no problem killing time there!
It seems like stores like TJMaxx and Marshalls are very hit or miss, and yesterday the TJMaxx in Ocala was definitely a hit.
$10!
I actually didn’t end up getting that clutch because I stumbled upon a yellow clutch that I liked more and figured one clutch was enough for the day.
The yellow clutch was roomier and I loved the way it folded over. Very fun!
When Ryan and I met up at the check out line, he was a happy camper because he found a new sleeping bag that is ideal for temperatures below 30 degrees which will work for his annual guys’ hiking trips.
Check out my loot of the day!
I’m not sure if I will end up keeping the lace shirt you see in front. I need to try it on with a tank top underneath to see how it looks, but I really do love it. If any of you have suggestions on how to make it look both appropriate and cute, please teach me your ways.
Dinner
Before driving home for the night, Ryan and I agreed that sushi sounded delicious and decided to go on a little date to Grace Japanese Steakhouse.
I started my meal with miso soup and shared edamame with Ryan.
For my main meal, I ordered a Florida roll which came wrapped in miso paper (I think?) instead of the traditional seaweed. It was good, but I prefer the taste of the seaweed.
I also had a Bonzai roll that included cucumber, crab, shrimp and masago.
I love this roll! It’s so light and refreshing.
Since the Japanese restaurant was within walking distance of Peachwave frozen yogurt, you better believe Ryan and I popped in for dessert.
Neither of us were very hungry, so we shared a cup of cheesecake and cookies ‘n’ cream frozen yogurt, topped with sprinkles, strawberries, peanut butter syrup, whipped cream and a few Reese’s.
As we were eating, Ryan and I discussed important things like our favorite frozen yogurt store rankings:
- Peachwave: Overall winner. Consistently has the best flavors.
- Yogurtology: Second place for their oatmeal cookie and red velvet flavors.
- Menchies: Best toppings.
- Mochi: Taro is my favorite.
Obviously our rankings only include the frozen yogurt shops we frequent in Florida and are really limited to what is available in Ocala, Orlando and St. Pete, as those are the cities we seem to frequent most. My fellow frozen yogurt fans, are we missing out on a fabulous frozen yogurt shop somewhere?
Heather @ Run Eat Play says
I love TJ Maxx! The one near us always has really great stuff – sometimes I have to stay out of there!
Illinois has some really great frozen yogurt places – I love Yogli Mogli in Wheaton and Bamboo Spoon is South Barrington. They have red velvet cupcake batter fro-yo delicious!
Congrats on your triathlon!
Alexa says
this is so strange. i just looked at my boyfriend and said “we need to try the new bamboo spoon in south barington” and I read your post at the EXACT same time. haha just thought i would share. now im definitely checking it out tonight it must be a sign =]
Heather @ Run Eat Play says
We actually just walked in the front door from Bamboo Spoon! Isn’t that weird?! I love it!
Pat says
You MUST try TCBY Frozen Yogurt! I LOVE the Greek Honey Vanilla frozen yogurt!!! It has half the sugar and twice the protein as regular frozen yogurt.
Anne says
Ok here we go.
1. The Skinny Dip- Franchises along the coast in the mid-atlantic.
2. Delights Emporium- Franchises in Florida and New York
3. Brynns Frozen Yogurt- Winston-Salem, NC
4. Some place in the middle of Kentucky I can’t remember the name of.
Amanda says
Must hit up TJ Maxx soon! I love when it’s a hit! We have Orange Leaf and Yorgurtini in addition to Peachwave here outside of Kansas City and they’re all great!
Audrey Adams says
I could pretty much spend all day in TjMaxx. And Marshall’s always seem to have more athletic clothes. I just hate my Marshall’s moved like farther away…so usually, its Tjmaxx for me.
You are definitely missing a fro-yo place that you must try!
It is called PinkBerry.
It’s pretty awesome. Their Pomegranate flavor is to die for.
http://www.pinkberry.com/
I’ve also heard Red Mango is good, but I haven’t went yet.
Caitlin C says
Sweet Frog hands down!
Maryann says
I dont know if its just a west coast thing, but YOGURTLAND is by far the best froyo shop in LA. Always a ton of awesome flavors and toppings.
Jaclyn @thejaxoflife says
exactly what i was gunna say…and it’s SOOOO cheap!
ali says
Agreed! Yogurtland is by far the best froyo place I’ve tried!
Kristen Exline says
Um Yeah! Yogurtland! Obsessed with the dark chocolate almond flavor. In fact, I am going today lol 🙂
Laurie @ Love, Laugh, Laurie says
I always struggle to find good stuff at TJ’s and Marshall’s, but you did great! I definitely need some fro yo now!
prissy says
Your saturday was fin packed. Love the clutch. My saturday was awesome as well. My six month old grandson and dsughter came to visit!
Always great! We went swimming! He went under water twice and loved it. He kicked his lottle legs so well. I like you was a swimmer. Swam for the country I was brought up in. So swimming is very important aroind here. We introduced tomatoes and ice cream sandwiches to littlr man! It was a landslide. Tomatoes won. HAVE A GREST SUNDAY!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
I love finding great things at TJ Maxx or Marshalls! And I do love Menchi and Peachwave, but I haven’t tried the other two! Peachwave is pretty great!
Lauren says
First of all, hooooly cow does that sushi look awesome!
Secondly, where does Ryan go camping? I just moved to Louisiana from Massachusetts, and the last few hours of the drive didn’t really seem like we were going through anywhere that would be fun to pitch a tent and explore – just flat, hot, dry. Being a lover of the outdoors I’m itching to find all the hidden treasures down here!
Morgan says
You always look so cute! I love the lace top and am sure you will put it off 🙂 My favorite yogurt place is Orange Leaf. Delicious!
Charlie @ The Runner Beans says
That top is really cute, you could wear it with a fun coloured bandeaux bra top underneath (http://store.americanapparel.net/rsa8341.html- I wear mine with an actual bra underneath!) and jeans, depending on quite how revealing the lace is!!
Ashley @ Sweat for Sweets says
Hey Julie! For the lace top, I would suggest trying to wear a bandeau underneath & then maybe wearing the top tucked in with a high-waisted skirt. Always a good look 😉 As for the fro yo, Menchies is definitely my fav! I think their yogurt tastes the creamiest & I love their assortment of flavours! Another goodie is Yogurtys… I don’t know if you have that in the U.S. though?
Kari says
Orange Leaf is yummy!!
Tina says
Love TJ Maxx – they usually have a better selection than Marshall’s in my opinion. I think the lace tank would be adorable underneath a jacket/fitted blazer. For frozen yogurt, Orange Leaf is awesome. We are allegedly getting a Yogurtland soon, but the “Coming Soon” sign has been up nearly a year, so I’m not holding my breath 🙂
Have a great Sunday!
Erika says
My favorite froyo place is FroyoWorld!
http://froyoworld.com/
My favorite flavor is Nutella which I mix with cookies & cream. It is so good! They also have cake batter and peanut butter cup, which mix together very nicely. For toppings I like fresh strawberries, caramel cups and oreos. 🙂 I think your lace tank top would look good with a white cami underneath and you could wear it with a a cute skirt, jeans, capris.
Colleen @ Miss Petite Sweets says
We just got a new yogurt place in Michigan called Yo-go Hut and they have an incredible Dulce de Leche yogurt- perfect with cheesecake and brownie bites as a topping!
Nilda says
Sounds like a fun day! My boyfriend and I love this yogurt shop called Sweet Cece’s! They h e the creamiest frozen yogurt and it’s still low in fat. They also have the best toppings to choose from. It’s definitely a must!
Next time you come to Jacksonville Beach you should try it. It’s about three miles west of Jax Beach. Beach Blvd at Hodges!
Diana says
It’s called soy paper 🙂 Miso is soybean paste.
In Houston we have Berripop, Swirll, Red Mango, Menchi’s, Orange Leaf (my fav! they have MINT!), Tutti Fruitti, yogurtland, TCBY’s, The Yogurt Spot, Rainbow, Sweet Cup, Sweet Lola…
what can I say? Texans are big eaters!
🙂
Julie @ There and Back Again says
All we have here on the OBX is Sweet Frog, so I didn’t have anything to compare it to until this little locally-owned place called Surfin’ Spoon just opened up – and it’s definitely a winner! The owners are super nice folks and the whole place is decorated like a cool surf hangout instead of just a grab and go yogurt joint. Love it!
TJ says
We just got a platos closet close by but never been in. Do they just take designer clothing?
Laura says
There are so many I love in Atlanta.
* Yogurtland – Great price, best variety of flavors
* Yoforia – Love them for having organic yogurt
* Yogli Mogli – Always good flavors but not one of my top places anymore
* Yogurt Creation – Amazing. Good variety of flavors and huge variety of toppings – including yogurt pretzels and chocolate-covered raisins
Emily says
Live Love Yogurt! Unfortunately only two locations and they are in South Florida…. sooooo many toppings
Chelsea @ http://prettyrunnergirl.blogspot.com says
I have never been to a TjMaxx, I’ve always wanted to go though!! Not sure where one is around me though….
Your best bet is to get a cami and put it under the lace tank, that’s what I do 🙂
Cultive, located in California 🙂 I haven’t found another place better yet 😉
Karla says
Orange Leaf is very good!
Jillian Rider says
I also had a “hit” day at TJMaxx. I walked out with a ton of new dresses and shirts! I would try a tank top underneath the lace shirt along with a statement necklace and maybe some skinny jeans.
Elaine says
FroZenYo has got to be one of my favorite frozen yogurt spots. They have a ton of flavors to chose from (some of my favorites are Red Velvet Cake, Pumpkin Pie, and Greek Style) and unlimited toppings. Seriously heaven in a cup! I live in D.C., and so far there are only locations in the DC/VA/MD area. But I’ll put in a good word and suggest that they expand to Florida 🙂
Joyce Underwood says
If you are ever in St. Augustine, there is a froyo place right next to the new Movie theater, right off of 207. It’s called Galactic Frozen Yogurt, and I love it because A) it has taro, hard to come by for me unless I want to go to historic Savannah, and B) I am a sucker for anything “Galactic” or space alien related. I love the way the place looks inside, and the people working there were super nice and talkative when I visited in December. I would love to stop there every time on my way to my mom’s house, but usually I have a car full of dogs and a screaming child. But I’ll definitely be stopping in this Tuesday, since I’m dropping off my Sprout in the morning and I won’t have the dogs. Excited!
Here’s their site, if you are interested: http://www.galacticfrozenyogurt.com/
Rachel says
Love your shorts! Cute color 🙂
Natalie Negroni says
I go to Yogurt Mountain in Clearwater, FL a lot,so that would be the best place for me. their flavors are all so good! Salted pretzel anyone? You should definitely try it!I’m sure it’s in more places besides Clearwater
Lauren B. says
I live in Ca, so my two favorites are Golden Spoon and Yogurtland!
Jenna says
Try a bandeau underneath. I got some lace ones at f21 for like $4 each. My fav froyo is red mango! Best granola eveerrr.
Amy says
The problem I have with TJ Maxx and Marshalls is that I feel like a lot of the time, the clothes in the juniors section are too young for me and the clothes in the womens section are too old/big for me. Where do you look for your items?
Dee says
The lace top might pair well with a super long tank (I got mine from h&m) or a bandeau!
I started my frozen yogurt craze with Pinkberry; it’s good, but I think it’s all hype there! Once a little shop called Pingu (now closed!) opened up and served blueberry flavored froyo, it was the place to be! Then a good amount of self-serve yogurt shops started to open up, and between Nubi, Tuttifrutti, and Yogurtland, i foubd myself at Yogurtland the most! Oh my, I found myself there in the afternoons AND night (not in the same day, of course 😉 )! I’ll have to try Menchies, since it made your list!
Jenica says
I have a white lace shirt that I wear with either a light colored tank that I tuck into my pants or with just a nude bra when I’m feeling bold. I think the trick to pulling it off is not emphasizing that you’re wearing a see-through shirt and instead just sticking to light neutral underneath.
Laura says
Sweet Cece’s is BY FAR the best in my opinion… Nashville-based company but is expanding all over. So good.
Sarah says
Sweet Frog ALL the way!
It also helps when your best friend’s brother’s girlfriend is the manager there and gives you a free cup every time 🙂
Sweet Frog managers rock. If they’re dating your best friend’s brother that is.
Meg says
After doing a pretty complete yogurt crawl with a couple of friends, 16 Handles won hands down. They have a ton of toppings and 16 flavors that rotate regularly. Sooo good!
Beks says
I’m partial to Red Mango, myself, but we don’t really have any other FroYo places in the Council Bluffs/Omaha area. What I love most about them is how healthy they are. I can have a big dish of it with toppings and it won’t make me feel sick and overly full like ice cream does.
Natalie says
You’re right, Peachwave is the BEST. I’ve only had it a few times when I’ve been in Florida on vacation, but they have a TON of flavors and toppings. Sweet Cece’s is the one I frequent when I’m home though, they have really good peanut butter and cheesecake flavors!
courtney says
IKIWI! Its right next to ucf in the plaza with the publix on mccoulich. soooo good
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles says
Ha, I love how you ranked them!
My city only has two right now, so I’m kinda limited for options.
Kiwi Kraze – better yogurt flavours/more options. Toppings are kind of limited.
Yoyo’s – yogurt flavours are a hit or a miss. They usually have a bunch of fruit flavours, then maybe a vanilla or chocolate. Once in a while, you luck out and get something like red velvet or tiramisu. The toppings bar is amazingly extensive though.
So one has better yogurt, the other has better toppings. Tough call!
Jackie says
Sixteen Handles in NYC is my favorites. Great fro yo and sorbet and the best toppings!
Cate says
100% agree about both TJMaxx and Marshalls. But this summer, it has been way more hit than miss for me. Glad that you lucked into some good finds yesterday.
As far as yogurt is concerned, I like Peachwave, CherryBerry, and Bippy’s by the Beach when in northwest Florida.
Dolce says
In Texas, I swear we have frozen yogurt places on every street! My favorite for sure is Red Mango! But Menchie’s is soooo stinkin’ good, their peanut butter froyo is ridiculously yummy.
Anna Lynn says
ikiwi on the comer of Alafaya and Mcculloch right by UCF is SO YUMMY! My apartment use to be right down the road…too dangerous for my own good!
Sara Lopez says
Julie,
I have a shirt similar to that I pair it with a light tank top. Cute and modest:)
kl says
in perth we have a few froyo bars popping up, but if you’re ever in the area check out “madzoon”. definitely worth the airfare 🙂
Tori says
Naperville, IL there’s a iKiwi. they’re superrrr nice there and have great flavors/blends. the fruit section is great but also the treats 🙂 and it’s cheap!
Kristen @ notsodomesticated says
I think Peachwave and Menchies are my favorites, followed by Yogli Mogli but I really can’t explain WHY. It seems like most frozen yogurt places are about the same, so I don’t know why I prefer some over others!
