- A Sadie and Chase update! This one has been a long-time coming but I finally had the chance to sit down and type up my thoughts about their ever-changing relationship on Friday afternoon. Stay tuned for this post tomorrow morning!
- Our first adventures in sleep training. I wasn’t sure if this would be of interest but a bunch of you asked me to dive into the details of our first sleep training experience. (Clearly baby sleep is overwhelming to many! I feel ya!!) A post about our first 1.5 weeks of sleep training will be up this week, too.
So far my sleep training post is 1,500+ words. Yeesh. I’ll try to break it up with some pictures for ya! And hopefully I’ll be able to pop in with a little update on our week on Thursday as well. That’s the plan, Stan.
Anyway, back to the weekend…
Friday
Friday night was another low key one around here. Relaxing Friday nights at home seem to be a theme around here these past two weeks and I’d be lying if I said that didn’t make me 100 percent thrilled. I swear I get just as excited for a chill night at home as I do for a big social shebang.
Our Friday night in a nutshell: We watched Pirates of the Caribbean on Netflix and I ate peanut butter out of the jar. Get crazyyyy!
Saturday
Saturday morning began at Burn Boot Camp but my morning workout was a little more fun thanks to my friend Carrie who came along!
I met Carrie through my first Stroller Strides class in January and she quickly became one of my favorite play date buddies. (Her daughter Lilly is about two months younger than Chase and she is adorable.) After hearing me rave about it, Carrie expressed interest in boot camp, so we made plans to meet up for a 9 a.m. workout date on Saturday.
(My Fitbit Surge was a Christmas present from Ryan – he’s been obsessed with his Surge for months – and I LOVE it. It’s without a doubt the best activity tracker I’ve tried to date.)
The workout on the agenda for Saturday morning was a plyometric workout and it was jam-packed with tons of jumping. It was a cardio killer and I was thrilled when Carrie said she loved it! Does anyone else get kind of nervous when they invite a friend to try their favorite workout? It’s not like my feelings would be hurt if they didn’t like it or anything, but I feel like I want it to be extra awesome when I invite someone to come along to try a workout I love, ya know?
Carrie is signing up for the Groupon for a one-month membership and I’m excited to have a new workout buddy joining me at boot camp! (FYI for locals, the Burn Boot Camp Groupon is a great deal and gives you unlimited access to BBC classes for only $35! They have locations all over the Charlotte area, so just type Burn Boot Camp in the Groupon search bar to find the location closest to you.)
After my workout, I came home, fed Chase and put him down for a nap before taking a much-needed shower.
When lunchtime rolled around, we piled into my car and drove to Carrburrito’s in Davidson to meet up with our friends Kevin and Chandra who are MOVING away next month. We are SO bummed!!!
(And that is how a new mama feels when she makes it out of the house on time with a baby…)
Kevin and Chandra are two of our favorite people here in Charlotte and even though we are psyched for them and the exciting opportunities that await them in their new hometown, we will really miss our friends a lot.
Chandra’s friend Jessica was also in town visiting and our group chatted away over chips and guacamole and lots of delicious food. Chase couldn’t be bothered with the tacos and quesadillas because he had more important things to do, like stare at ceiling fans and lights.
After lunch, our little group made a pit stop for the essentials to make Moscow Mules and mimosas before heading back to our house for a game day that bled into a game night!
Carrie and her husband Nick and their daughter joined us around 4 p.m. as well and we had a blast!
We played BANG! which began as a bit of a hot mess as Kevin tried to explain the many rules to the newbies of the group but it quickly morphed into an awesome time after we played one round and got the hang of it.
We eventually ordered pizza around 6 p.m. and spent the rest of the night enjoying quality time with friends.
Sunday
I’m actually typing up this post at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, so I’m not sure what Sunday entails for us just yet, but I’ll be sure to check back in later in the week with more updates.
I hope you all enjoyed your weekend and are having a great Monday so far!

Hi Julie!! What a fun weekend! I have been wanting to try BBC (I’m also in Charlotte, but South Charlotte!) and for $35 there is just no reason not to. I usually work out at home (lately I’ve been doing Jillian Michael’s workouts) but think a class would be a great way to get out and meet some people!
Hope your Monday is off to a fantastic start!!

We love Bang!!! We have the Walking Dead version and its awesome (I have never watched the show). I highly recommend the Bang Dice Game too 🙂

Oh that’s so funny, I saw the picture of Carrie and her daughter and thought she looked familiar… I went to school with her before her family moved away around 8th or 9th grade! What a small world 🙂 Sounds like a fantastic weekend! I wish I had a Burn Boot Camp around me!
Julie says
No way! I love small world stuff like that!
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul says
What a fun weekend! I love moscow mules!
The Good Gears says
The game looks diverting and I see it got 4.5 stars at Amazon. So I had to order it.
Julie says
Hope you enjoy it!! It’s kind of crazy to figure out at first, but we LOVED it once it got going!
Sara @ LovingOnTheRun says
Sounds like you had a wonderful and fun filled weekend! Mine passed way too quickly!

Awh he’s so cute in his little green jacket!!!
Kaci @ Kaci K. RD2Be says
Moscow mules and mimosas are two of my favorite drinks! I totally know that feeling of wanting your friend to love your workout class too. It’s like you know how awesome it is and you just want them to know how awesome it is too. I’m looking forward to your Chase and Sadie post. My husband and I are trying to start a family and one of the things I’m most nervous about is how our dog will do with a baby (yes I’m worrying super far into the future lol).
Christina @ Embracing Simple says
Bang sounds like a really fun game! I’ve actually been wanting to stock up on a few games to keep around because I realized the other day that we don’t have a single board game in our house – what?! haha that’s no fun! I’ll have to add bang to my list of ones I’m considering getting! Hope you have a great start to your week Julie!
XO Christina

What a great weekend! Looking forward to the post about Sadie 🙂

I feel ya on getting out of the house with a baby. Just this morning my husband and I were trying to figure out how we were still running late after preparing everything ahead of time last night. I guess we didn’t exactly prepare everything like we thought. As a new mom I try to accomplish small victories and each time we leave on time I celebrate!
I can’t wait to hear about your sleep training as we too are in the process ourselves after our most recent visit to the pediatrician.

Oh I have fit bit envy! I have the basic charge, I think it’s called. I like it because it keeps my mind on activity during the day, when in usually sitting at a desk. It basically reminds me walk across the room instead of rolling my chair :). The surge looks awesome though! I would love more options, I think it may be time to upgrade 🙂
Alyssa @ renaissancerunnergirl says
Sounds like a great weekend to me! I’m 24 and single, and I still enjoy Friday nights that consist of watching Friday Night Lights with my boyfriend while we eat peanut butter and ice cream out of their jars 🙂 I have a FitBit Zip that I like because it’s easy to hide, but I’ve been thinking about an upgrade, so I’m interested to see how you keep on with the Surge.
Chelsea@TableForOne says
There is just too much cuteness going on today with all the babies on your blog! So fun….also my idea of a crazy Friday night is also Netflix and peanut butter from the jar (:
Ginette says
Looks like a fun weekend! I honestly love board games nights- I feel like it’s a fun way to engage with everyone and catch up all while staying in the comfort of someone’s home. I can’t wait to hear about Sadie’s and Chase’s relationship! It will be interesting to hear how Sadie has been reacting to having to share attention with Chase. Did you do any research beforehand, or have you just been adapting to both Sadie and Chase? Should be a great post!
Anna @ THE POSH BODY says
I just love that diaper bag! You’re such a stylish mama 🙂
Jessica @ Semi-Sweet Tooth says
Ha – LOVE the warning on major posts to come! I can’t wait to read about Sadie and Chase’s relationship! The pup/baby bond is such a sweet one.
And look at that hair on baby Lily! What a great new friend to have in a similar phase of life. 🙂
XO, Jessica

Games, babies and moscow mules… sounds like a fun weekend to me 🙂

I absolutely love my FitBit Surge! My hubby got me one for Christmas as well and I’m obsessed! There are still some things I am working on figuring out. It can do SO much! 🙂

HI Julie!
You mentioned that you got a Fitbit Surge and I was curious if you could do a review about it? I’ve been on the verge of getting one for the past couple months, but heard it was a bit bulky, but I would love to hear your pros/cons about it since you like it so much.
Thank you!
Julie says
Chase really does resemble your dad so much! He is such a cute baby. Glad y’all had a fun weekend with friends and babies! Look forward to your upcoming posts this week.
Liz says
Funny you mention the Surge today because my boyfriend just ordered one last week! If he doesn’t like it for whatever reason, guess who gets it! Haha. I have a Charge HR and love it 🙂
Julia @ Lord Still Loves Me says
Julie, never apologize for long posts! I love reading about your life, especially during this time of transition!
Jennifer says
It is a serious achievement to get to where you are going on time when children are involved. I’ve always prided myself in being on time but it changes to a whole new level once you have kiddos.
Amanda says
Don’t ever apologize for long posts! We love reading!
Pam Cook says
Moscow Mules are my new favorite drink! I can’t wait for summer because I think they will be very refreshing. We have been having fresh grapefruit juice with prosecco and a few strawberries, delicious!!!
Rachel says
Sounds like such a fun weekend! I can’t wait to hear about the development in Chase and Sadie’s relationship, haha!
Chrissy says
Hey Julie,
I was wondering about the rosehip seed oil you love. Did you use it while pregnant? I started using it and realized Iprobably should have checked first. 🙂 Also, is yours a bright yellow-orangish color? Mine is rubbing off on my pillow case and I just didn’t know if you had the same problem.
Thanks SO much for your help! Love your blog!!
Hilary says
I think that game night with a bunch of friends sounds like such a great time, I can’t wait to move into a bigger place where I can host these kinds of events!

Looking forward to your other updates this week.

This was such a fun post! Chase is looking so grown up, and that weekend sounds fab with a good workout, friends, & games. We hosted a Valentine’s game night with friends & it was so fabulous.
