When I made Jenna’s chocolate chip cookies a couple of weeks ago, I realized one very important thing.
I like my cookies BIG.
I don’t particularly enjoy the fact that most cookies are the size of a silver dollar. (Whatever happened to silver dollars?) When it comes to normal cookies, I inevitably eat five… plus some dough.
With giant cookies I can typically limit myself to one (okay two). They’re typically thicker and more moist than smaller cookies which makes this girl quite happy.
This evening I felt like baking and got to work in the kitchen after Googling a recipe for GIANT oatmeal cookies.
How good is oatmeal cookie dough?
Giant Oatmeal Drop Cookies (Recipe from Cooking Light)
Ingredients:
1 cup packed dark brown sugar
2 tablespoons butter or stick margarine, softened
1/2 cup applesauce
1 large egg
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups regular oats
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Cooking spray
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Beat sugar and butter at medium speed of a mixer until well-blended (about 5 minutes). Add applesauce and egg; beat well. Lightly spoon flour into dry measuring cups; level with a knife. Combine flour, oats, soda, cinnamon, and salt. Add flour mixture to sugar mixture; beat at low speed until well-blended. Stir in raisins, walnuts, and vanilla. Using 3 level tablespoons per cookie, drop dough 2 inches apart onto baking sheets coated with cooking spray; flatten slightly. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes. Remove cookies from pans; cool on wire racks.
Yield: 15 cookies
Apparently I wasn’t the only one who couldn’t resist the dough.

The recipe I followed instructed me to make each cookie using three tablespoons of cookie dough.
The result?
Some VERY big cookies and a VERY happy girl.
Each cookie was bigger than my palm. This, my friends, is a very good thing.
In all the cookie madness I didn’t snap a picture of my dinner. Ryan and I had ravioli, in case you were curious.
The cookies were better. 😉
I like them big too!! Everyone always comments on my big cookies and that is just the way I like it. 🙂

I’m at a toss up with the cookie size thing. I inevitably eat 3-4 cookies no matter what the size, so I feel I should keep the small to keep portion size in check. Even if they were that big, I’d probably have just as many! 🙂

Those cookies are HUGE! They’re like pancakes! That is the only way to eat cookies. Small or thin cookies always end up hard. The bigger the better for sure!

I’m with you on big cookies – the little, bite-sized versions are not meant to be savored….oatmeal raisin were my favorite as a kid, and I might try out this recipe to see if that still holds true!

Totally agreed. That’s why bakery cookies are so awesome–well, that and the 8 sticks of butter. But big cookies just feel like a treat, and probably add up to less than the 8 little ones I’d eat!

giant cookies are the best. chewy, and soft. perfect for dunking in a cup of cold milk.

I loooove big cookies! I made mini cookies this week and while they may be cute, they don’t compare to a giant cookie. Love those ones that are bigger than the palm of your hand!

Just an FYI — I didn’t know this myself until very recently, and I’m a dog owner too — raisins are bad for dogs. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grape_and_raisin_toxicity_in_dogs) I’m sure the little nubbin of dough wasn’t enough to cause a serious problem, but I just wanted to mention it since I considered myself a pretty dog-health-savvy person and didn’t know that grapes were bad for a long time.

In regards to the silver dollar – I’ve hear they fell out of favor because of the size & weight and because people with impaired sight had a hard time identifying them against the $0.50 coins.
Totally do not know if that’s the truth, but I do know I prefer cookies that are about that size. 😉 In fact, your flour-less PB cookie recipe yielded me 18 cookies.

I also like them big because I am not satisfied by the smaller ones. Lol. Big cookies are better to full your big appetite. I enjoy eating oatmeal cookies with some fresh milk. That will really make you satisfied.
Made the cookies, used craisins instead of raisins & also added 1/2 c dark chocolate chunks. They’re very good! Thanks for sharing!
Oatmeal cookies are best for diabetic persons. My mom always eat oatmeal cookies even if she eats many her blood sugar doesn’t go up. Actually, she has jars of this cookies. LOl. The recipe is perfect since my mom always buy oatmeal cookies in stores. Starting now she don’t need to buy it.
