These chewy little berries made an appearance in my breakfast again this morning!
Goji berries!
A few of you asked me about goji berries when they popped up in my yogurt bowl on Monday morning. Here is some more information for you from my package of Sunfood goji berries:
They’re a little too chewy for me to snack on by the handful like raisins, but I love tossing them into yogurt bowls or overnight oats which is exactly what I did this morning.
Last night I prepped a bowl of overnight oats using a combination of almond milk and coconut milk and absolutely loved the way the oats soaked up the coconut flavor of the creamy milk. I topped them with chopped roasted almonds and goji berries and loved every last bite!
Question of the Morning
- What is your favorite yogurt or oatmeal topping or do you prefer to eat your yogurt and oats plain? Or do you simply hate yogurt and oatmeal?
I think candied pecans will always be my favorite topping for yogurt and oatmeal… and ice cream. I love ‘em!

I put granola in my yogurt. I tend to make seasonal granola, so for fall it was pumpkin… Keeps things varied. And for oatmeal, a bit of honey and cinnamon. Yummmm

Peanut butter, and dark chocolate & sea salt covered almonds from TJ’s are the best for oatmeal! Around Christmas time, when they have their eggnog almonds, those are a great mix-in too!

It is FREEZING here in Boston today, so this morning I made Irish steel cut oats with a dollop of pumpkin, a dash of cinnamon, and a teaspoon of homemade vanilla sugar a co-worker made me.
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl says
I have never tried gogi berries, but they certainly look and sound good. I like the idea of putting them in yogurt or cereal. Thanks for introducing me to a new food/snack option!
Ellie@Fit for the Soul says
Wow it’s been so long since I’ve had goji berries! They are harder to chew though aren’t they? I love to top oatmeal with crunchy stuff like cereal, granola, nuts, and nut/seed butters. Sometimes I love to put a little piece of chocolate too 😀
Emily says
I’m not eating oats right now…but this recipe looks so tempting! Would they be good in smoothies?
Ali @ WHOLEistically Fit says
I prefer my oatmeal plain, but I like fresh fruit, chia seeds, and raw rolled oats on my yogurt. 😀

When I think of oatmeal I always think of blueberries! In my book they go together like PB&J 🙂

I am obsessed with cinnamon, chia seeds and banana slices in my oatmeal! YUM- comfort food. Sometimes I like sliced almonds as well. Oatmeal is by far my fave winter breakfast food since it’s so freezing cold up here in MN! 🙂 Warms you right up.

Thanks for filling us in! I will have to try these

I haven’t had Goji berries in ages but they are a nice change from the usual dried cranberries. Must get more soon!
Traci says
I do gluten free oat bran instead of oatmeal, but I love to add cinnamon, raisins, a ton of chopped pecans and a touch of raw honey. My go-to breakfast for sure!
Traci says
I tried organic goji berries once and I absolutely hated them. I popped in a few like raisins but they were very bitter and they stuck to my teeth, I couldn’t get away from the taste. Tons of people love them though, maybe I had a bad batch or need a sweetened version? Should I give them another shot?
Arielle says
What brand of coconut milk do you use? Some of them are really fattening! Wondering which is best, I love anything coconut!!!
sara @ fitcupcaker says
I love yogurt AND oatmeal, just not together 🙂 lol
Audrey Adams says
I love Greek yogurt and oatmeal! I love pecans, chopped apple, banana, kiwi, almonds, plums, and cinnamon for sure.
christy says
I am in love with plain Greek yogurt with honey, fancy fox granola, and a few chopped raw walnuts. Delicious! I top my oatmeal with chopped walnuts too. I adore a little crunch!
Lauren says
Polysaccharides? That’s sort of an odd way to tell you that they’re high in fiber.
I only do lactose free yogurt (which isn’t the best), and I put tons of cinnamon and fruit in it. I eat oats with almond milk and cinnamon – don’t even need to let it sit. I eat it just like cereal!

Hi Julie!
Just recently started reading your blog and am already a HUGE fan! I started my own blog a few weeks ago and Peanut Butter Fingers has been such a great inspiration.
When it comes to oatmeal, I love to mix mine with nonfat vanilla greek yogurt and throw in some berries (blueberries and strawberries are my favorite). As a treat, I’ll sometimes top it with a dollop of fat free whip cream. It’s delish. Thanks for the tip on the Goji berries!
Gracie

I usually go for a plain Greek yogurt with coconut almond granola, chia seeds, some sort of berry and a little agave nectar. It’s my go to almost every morning!!
Meghan @ Rhm says
I love oatmeal with peanut butter, chia seeds, flax seeds, and honey! Delicious.
Ali says
what kind of coconut milk do you use???
Leigh says
I just had Goji berries for the first time last weekend! I put them in a superfood salad I made! I actually liked them even better in the left over salad because they weren’t quite as chewy with all the other salad juices soaked into it! So good! I tend to like fresh berries in my yogurt though, so I’m not sure what I’d think about trying that…
Bek @ Crave says
I don’t typically eat yogurt and oatmeal cooked together. It’s oatmeal with milk for me! I love banana and crushed walnuts, with a drizzling of honey! I really need to try some Goji berries they look yum- what do they remind you of? Are they sweet?
