Today’s after-work plans took me to Maitland, a town north of Orlando, to meet up with two fellow bloggers for gelati from one of my favorite dessert hot spots in the area, Jeremiah’s!
I met up with Katy and Meghann to say goodbye to Meghann before she hightails it out of Orlando and moves to Tampa this weekend. Boo!
It’s hard to believe it has been almost a year since I first met Meghann. Time flies!
I really enjoyed chatting away with Katy and Meghann while wolfing down our deliciously thick and cool desserts.
I ordered a combination of creamy coconut Italian ice with chocolate soft serve and practically licked my cup clean.
Truth be told, I picked up a medium cookies ‘n’ cream gelati (like the one from this weekend) to bring home for Ryan and ate the whole top off of his while I was driving back to our apartment.
I’m a bottomless pit when it comes to soft serve and am convinced I could beat Adam from Man v. Food in an ice cream-eating challenge.
Bring it oooon, Adam.
Speaking of Man v. Food, if Adam were to ever visit Orlando, I would tell him to hit up the following places:
- Four Rivers Smokehouse for BBQ pulled pork sandwiches
- Houston’s for a French dip sandwich and a hot fudge sundae
- The Dessert Lady for a sampler tray of sweet treats
And on that note, it’s time for a late dinner. I’m thinkin’ a pb and j with a crumbled AllieBar sounds good right about now!
Question of the Evening
Where would you tell Adam from Man v. Food to go in your hometown and what would you tell him to order?
Allie (Live Laugh Eat) says
Creamy coconut Italian ice?! I must visit Jeremiah’s next time I’m in Orlando. Ohh Adam, what a crazy kid. NO idea where I would send him…I mean, what CAN’T he eat?!
peanutbutterfingers says
he’s a machine. the only thing i’ve ever seen take him down was a SUPER hot wing and a big bowl of ice cream b/c it melted and got all nasty before he could get through the whole thing. i kind of love man v. food. 🙂
Jenna-Marie says
I am a huge dessert lover myself, and I would definitely send him to LuLu’s Sweet Shoppe in Boston’s North End. Their Red Velvet cupcake with butter cream frosting is OUT OF THIS WORD, along with their biscottis and so much more!
http://luluboston.com/
peanutbutterfingers says
you’ve said enough! take me there, jenna-marie!
Sarah @ healthy girl running says
I love your outfit!! Super cute! 🙂
Ha! My bf and I love watching Man vs. Food! I’d have to send him to our favorite local brewery. They have some pretty tasty pizzas and unique beers! 🙂
Holly says
You will probably think I’m a total nerd- but I looked at your link of when you first met Meghann- & it happened to be May 27th, 2010- I was like whoa! Because you said it was almost a year since you first met Meghann…which made my wedding date (May 27th, 2011) seem even closer! Just thought it was kind of cool 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
oh my gosh! it’s getting so clooooose! will you be doing wedding recaps on your blog? (please say yes… i kind of love them!)
Holly says
Yes yes yes!!! 🙂
Oh, & I think you might already know part of my bridesmaids’ gifts 😉
Jihane--Sinful Sundays says
Mmm, coconut and chocolate sound good!!
I grew up in Miami, FL and about 20 minutes north of me I always went to Jaxson’s to get the best sundaes! I’d tell him to get the Hot Fudge supreme, my favorite! Or, the Kitchen Sink which I’ve never have but would think that he could handle it!
Julia says
Best place EVER! 🙂
Jazmine @ Gracefully Glutenless says
ohmygoodness! that’s so funny! i love ice cream so much too. but i would send him to the griddle! i live in california now and at the griddle, they have enormous pancakes!! i can’t even tell you how big they are. they even have red velvet pancakes!
peanutbutterfingers says
red velvet pancakes!?!?! i have a new mission in life! must try those ‘cakes!
Jazmine @ Gracefully Glutenless says
yes! you can buy them here
thegriddlecafe.com
Michelle says
Definitely agree on Dessert Lady! I’m not even a dessert person and that place is awesome.
I’ve heard that Ravenous Pig in Winter Park is really good – I might consider sending him there.
Oh, and Lazy Moon. Can’t pass up their ginormous slices of pizza!
peanutbutterfingers says
hahaha when i was writing this post, i was talking to ryan about where to send him and we both thought of lazy moon, too! i really liked the ravenous pig though i’ve only been for lunch (never dinner).
Ashley says
mm I could eat ice cream, soft serve, fro yo or anything similar non stop!
*Andrea* says
you look so pretty in this outfit!!!
i could DEFINITELY outeat Adam in a brownie or chocolate chip cookie contest ; )
i wish we had jeremeiah’s in boston! sure looks tastyyy
Allison@ Happy Tales says
Oh good gracious, I’m originally from Cincinnati, Ohio… so I’d send him to Skyline Chili first.
They seriously have some type of special recipe formula that wreaks havoc on anyone digestive system who is *not* originally from Cinci and used to the stuff….(case in point: my poor boyfriend…) Anywho, I’d tell him to order the 3-way, 4-way, or 5-way with EXTRA extra cheese. (Haaa that sounds kind of dirty… let me explain… a 3-way is the special chili, spaghetti and cheese, a 4-way is the special chili sauce, spaghetti noodles, cheese, and either beans or onions…. and a 5-way is special chili sauce, spaghetti noodles, cheese, beans AND onions.)
Sidenote: Make sure there’s a bathroom close by with lots of toilet paper for non-Cincinnati-natives.
And for dessert… I’d tell him to hop on over to Greaters ice-cream and order three scoops of BlackRaspberry Chip.
Mixing the two is a recipe for disaster…!
peanutbutterfingers says
i think my butt cheeks clenched just reading this. 😉
Allison@ Happy Tales says
Haaaaaaaaaa!!! Reading your response nearly made my drink come out of my nose from laughter.
Jenna says
I love that question…I recently started watching Man Vs. Food, it is insane how much food he can eat! But I have faith in you Julie, I think you’d school him in an ice cream challenge.
I’m from Red Deer, Alberta, Canada…a town of about 95 000 people. Red Deer has more restaurants per capita than anywhere else in Canada and yet I had a really hard time thinking of somewhere epic to go out. There are tons of great places, but nothing really unique or funky.
I moved to Calgary in the fall for school and I immediately thought of somewhere that Adam should go if he comes here. It’s called Tubby Dog…and it’s this tiny little place downtown that serves hot dogs (obviously), chili, fries, onion rings. I think he would order the Sumo Dog because it has wasabi, pickled ginger and and seaweed. It’s insanely spicy, they don’t skimp on the wasabi. There’s another hot dog that I think suits you perfectly Julie! It’s the PBJ – peanut butter, jelly, and cap n crunch cereal. It sounds weird, but it’s amazing!
peanutbutterfingers says
pb&j on a hot dog?
Jenna says
I was definitely skeptical at first…but it’s actually really good. It’s just one of those weird things that somehow works 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
i’d trust you and try it. 🙂
VeggieGirl says
I would tell him to go here (see link) and order ANYTHING, haha 😉

Courtney @ The Granola Chronicles says
LOVE Four Rivers. I had it last March when I was in Florida on vacation! There is a great Ethiopian place my area – I could challenge Adam on that yummy (& spicy!) food! 🙂
Lauren says
I’d tell him to do a Ben & Jerry’s challenge, maybe with Vermont maple syrup drizzled on top. They actually have a “Vermonster” challenge at Ben & Jerry’s made of 40 scoops of ice cream + toppings – I did it with like 8 friends, and it was SO much ice cream.
mindy @ just a one girl revolution. says
He’s actually been to my town – last summer! He ate this epic burger at our minor league ballpark. The night he was there, I happened to be at the game, so it was pretty exciting!
Liz (Little Bitty Bakes) says
He came to Syracuse and the NY State Fair last year! He filmed an episode in Cuse – ate the LARGEST breakfast plate I’ve ever seen. It was something like, a foot-wide pancake, topped with 3 lbs. of potatoes, 6 eggs, ya da ya da ya da… 🙂
Amy at TheSceneFromMe says
I’d tell him to go to The Pancake House for a huge dutch baby pancake with fresh lemon juice and powdered sugar on to. And while he’s in that plaza he can go to Taylor’s Bakery for some cheddar cheese popcorn, mini eclairs and big ole sugar cookies!
Julia says
I LOVE Four Rivers! Their baked beans and bread pudding are to-die for! Not to mention their brisket. I go there nearly every weekend I visit my guy in Orlando. DELISH!
Heather (Heather's Dish) says
word on the street is there’s an 8-lb burrito somewhere in the area…that’s the same size as a baby!!!
Caroline says
When Man v. Food came to Cleveland he went to Melt Bar & Grilled. It’s a gourmet grilled cheese and sandwich place. So much cheese. They have the following challenge “Our monster grilled cheese featuring 13 different cheeses, 3 slices of grilled bread and a pile of hand-cut fries & slaw. Over 5lbs of food!!” It is a great place to go and is alway hopping, buuuuut Cleveland is known for corned beef and pirogies. There is a family joint that makes the biggest corned beef sandwiches – I can get three meals out of a HALF order of the sandwich.
I worked at an ice cream place for five years and the question I got asked more than any other was “do you ever get sick of the ice cream?” Umm… no! Never!
Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine says
Did you know Adam has a master’s from YALE?! Smart cookie!! I’d love his job…
To tell you the truth I don’t know of many places I’d tell him to eat in NY! I’m sure there are tons, though. On senior week a few years ago a bunch of my guy friends took the challenge of eating 24″ pizzas in an hour. It was not a pretty ending.
Kristina says
If he ever came to Victoria, British Columbia I would tell him to go to Prima Strata Pizzeria. BEST thin crust wood oven fired pizza in the world. Other than that, John’s Place for good old fashioned diner grub, Pagliacci’s for amazing pasta with the freshest seafood, and Baan Thai…best thai food I’ve ever had! If any of you come here you for sure need to try those places!
That gelati looks amazing and I get jealous every time you post pictures of it because Florida is literally across the continent and in a whole different country than I am in!
Alyssa says
I would totally crush Adam in a dessert eating contest! Especially if it had to do with any type of fro-yo. I live in MD but I would tell him to go to Boston and get the lobster roll from Neptune’s Oyster… if i was going to the chair that would def be something i scarfed down!
KaraHadley says
Watching Man vs Food always makes me want to try one of those restaurant challenges. OR try a real competitive eating contest! They just make it look so easy.
Katy (The Singing Runner) says
I really need to go to Jeremiah’s the next time I head down to Orlando! 😀
Nathan Miller says
PS…since Icecream is so close to your heart like mine….did you see Adam take on the Kitchen Sink in San Fransisco? Thats my favorite episode, besides the one he came and visited us here in Indianapolis.
But if he ever visits Indiana again. He would for sure have to hit up Dairy Dream in Albany Indiana and try their Superman Icecream (RED, BLUE, and Yellow hand serve)
But what they are famous for is their Cookie Monster Blitz (aka Blizzard) Bits of Chocolate chip cookie dough & crushed Oreo cookies atop our famous Peanut Butter topping…they throw it all in in HUGE chucks
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
I could give you AND him a run for money in a frozen yogurt contest 😉 I’d say he should hit up Ted Drewes in St.Louis (where I am from) -best frozen custard in the world, hands down!
Meg says
I hope Adam reads your blog cause I’d LOVE to see you two duke it out over some goodies 😉
Lindsey says
I live in Tuscaloosa, AL and we have a famous BBQ place called Dreamland that serves BBQ and white bread. I personally am not a huge fan of BBQ, but let me tell you- their banana pudding is what my dreams are made of. So I would probably take him to Chuck’s Fish first, which has crazy awesome sushi.
Danielle says
Adam came to my hometown last summer, yeah Portland, ME!! Saw him at a bar in July wearing a turtleneck and it was SO hot out, very odd. He ate this massive burger that has foie gras and fried egg on it. It was funny to hear from acquaintances who were in the episode about the behind the scenes deal with the show.
RoseRunner says
I live in Oakland, CA, one of the snobbie food mecca’s of the US.
I would have him hightail it to Bakesale Betty’s for scones (and demand him to eat 5 — they are huge), OR chicken and waffles at 900 Greyson. Oh, or the like 2 foot burrito truck near the courthouse.
good times
Courtney @ Peace, Love, Food & Happiness says
YUMMMMM!!!!!! That looks AMAZING~~ I wish I lived in Orlando! I want warm weather!!! It’s soo cold here in Boise!
Man Vs. Food has been to Boise for the 1 LB. Burger at “Big Juds”, which is right down the street from my house. I could never eat that big of a burger cuz I’m not a regular burger eater, but I could definitely eat that much ice cream! 😉
Alison says
That photo is from when he was here in Portland, OR! Those are donuts from Voodoo Donut, and they are delicious! Though the best one is missing: The Bacon Maple Bar.
Mimi says
Adam can handle some serious challenges, but I’ve been disappointed by all his ice cream attempts.
Gracie (complicated day) says
Obviously the Creole Creamery for the 8-scoop ginormous Tchoupitoulas challenge sundae!!!
Jennifer (The Gourmetour) says
A chicken kabob calzone with extra greek dressing from Captains Pizza in Swampscott, Massachusetts. (I don’t get to spell out MA very much, and just had one of those moments where a word looks so weird to you that you don’t recognize it.. weird feeling!! haha sorry!)
ANYWAYS,
Don’t be fooled by the title of the “calzone” it looks exactly like a pizza ( a lot like a thinner chicago stuffed without the sauce on top). AND IS DELICIOUS, it’s VERY filling though. I’d like to see him take on that as a challenge!
Rachel @ Grateful Girl Goes Gluten Free says
Since I’m from a town of 3000 people we don’t have much to offer adam except for a small ice cream trailer that makes the BEST banana split flurries. SO good. I had Jeremiah’s when I was visiting my cousin in Orlando this summer, I couldn’t believe how good it was.
Chocolate-Coated Runner says
Wow that looks like a lot of fun and the icecream looks quite tasty. Could so go for one of those right now. I think the name Jeremiah’s is pretty awesome, too
Gen says
Chocolate + coconut is wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish we had gelati here…..
Carrie says
AHAHAH I LOVE THAT SHOW!
i def could not recommend any place to Adam in London– the food over here is SO NOT SUPER SIZED like it is in the states! small portions here!
Hope says
That gelati looks so good! I am totally jealous! I want one!
I would tell Adam that he needs to go to Nifty Fifty’s which has the BEST milkshakes and spicy cheese fries ever!!! It’s a 50’s themed restaurant and they have a TON of diferent types of milkshakes that you can get! I love it there!
Caitlin @ The Caitie Experiment says
I admit to having a small secret crush on Adam 🙂
In Boston, I would tell him to go to Jim’s Deli in Brighton and get the Bunker Buster (steak and cheese with onions, mushrooms, salami and peppers) or The Fusion wrap (grilled chicken, grilled peppers, fried onion strips, swiss cheese + crushed red pepper) with a side of sweet potato fries. I used to live over there and miss it SO much; Jim is a riot and the sandwiches are as big as my head!
Kathie says
creamy chocolate coconut?! DROOLS!!!
Melissa says
Wow, coconut Italian ice with chocolate soft serve! Are you kidding me? I think I could bathe in that!!!
For Richmond, I’d send Adam to Millie’s. Best Huevos Rancheros EVER! With a bloody Mary while you wait, of course! 🙂
Amy says
If he ever came to Florence, SC, he would need to visit Redbone Alley. Just the atmophere & setup of the place is pretty amazing. Appetizer choices would either be the Bermuda Triangles or the Mexican Pizza Dip. Entree would be Low Country Shrimp & Grits or Daufuskie Island Shrimp Curry and for dessert, I would probably go with the Chocolate Chip Cookie pie… its worth passing up everything else in the meal just to devour!!
http://www.redbonealley.com/menu
Hannah says
Your post made me want ice cream, and also a bit of sunshine and warm weather to eat the ice cream outside!
Adam would need to visit Izzy’s Ice Cream in St. Paul, MN and try the Guinness Oatmeal Stout Ice Cream with a scoop of Burnt Brown Sugar Ice Cream on top!
tay says
Oh man I’m right there with ya lady. Multiple times (I think a good 4 times) I have devoured a whole half-gallon ice cream container in one night. And if I could, I’d LOAD up my froyo!!
Ash says
he’s been here 🙂 Lucky’s Sandwich shop in Wrigley – they put all of your sides ON the sammy! It’s quite strange when you’re not expecting it! French Fries on your pulled pork – sure, why not?!
I would tell him to go to Weinner Circle but I think that’s a little too risk-ay for TV!
Gbea says
I enjoy your blog so much – besides the great recipe and workout ideas, I’m a librarian and I really appreciate your love of reading with book suggestions!
I’m usually a lurker to most blogs but couldn’t help responding to this post because Adam Richman is in my (current) hometown of NashVegas, TN right now!! Here’s a funny, foodie blog post about it:
http://www.nashvillescene.com/bites/archives/2011/03/03/adam-richman-man-v-food-strut-their-stuff-at-roosters#more
Not sure where I would’ve sent him – I do love the Pancake Pantry and am not sure why it gets so much local hate. I think because it’s a tourist trap? So what? They serve excellent sweet potato pancakes – therefore the Pantry can do no wrong.
Amber K says
I’m totally a bottomless pit when it comes to soft-serve as well! And that looks DELICIOUS! I wish I could find something that good around me.
