For as long as I can remember, one of my favorite summertime snacks has been frozen grapes.
They’re sweet, simple and perfectly refreshing on a hot summer day. I love grabbing a handful on the go or throwing a bunch in a bowl to enjoy after dinner during the warmer months.
About two weeks ago, as I was snacking on a handful of frozen grapes, I started thinking about how grape popsicles often taste nothing like actual grapes. The light sweetness from real grapes is completely lost in deep purple grape flavoring and I decided I would try my best to make a popsicle with real grape flavor. Since I had never made homemade popsicles before, I first had to buy a popsicle mold on Amazon. (I opted for this one and thought it worked really well!) Then it was time to pick out my ingredients!
Over the weekend, I made my first round of popsicles using fresh grapes, frozen blueberries, fresh mint and a splash of light coconut milk. Ryan and I ended up eating the popsicles in one sitting (two each) and I took that as a good sign!
They were so, so good and tasted like a summer treat when, in reality, I knew they were made with simple, wholesome ingredients.
I prepared another batch this morning and made sure to measure everything so I could share the recipe with you guys. I hope you love these popsicles as much as we did in our house!

That looks like such a great recipe! I have been wanting to make popsicles all summer and have, of course, lacked the preparation and planning to actually make them. (It’s always more of a “I WANT ONE RIGHT NOW” kind of a situation which leads me to find a King of Pops and pay $3 for one stinkin popsicle.)
Definitely trying these soon! Thanks for the recipe 🙂
Julie says
I still need to try King of Pops!

I’m more of an ice cream fan…even on a stick 🙂 These sound really good though! Do you have magnums there? http://peachypalate.com/2014/06/06/magnums-of-a-friday-night/

I would never think to combine grape and mint, but I absolutely love the idea. I forget how easy popsicles are to make – thanks for sharing!

I don’t know if I could wait for them to freeze. Sounds like a delicious smoothie recipe to me 🙂

Ha!! I actually made a smoothie with similar flavors on Sunday because I was bummed we were out of the popsicles already!

These look so good! I love everything about frozen grapes. Yum!
Lindsay says
What kind of blender do you use? I don’t think my blender could make the mix smooth enough. Looking to get a new one. Any recommendations?
Julie says
I use a Vitamix (we got it after doing some returns after our wedding) but I’ve used a Blendtec as well and think it’s great, too!!
Lindsay says
Thanks! Which Vitamix do you have?

Those sound so good right now in this heat!!!! It’s 87 and humid in Arkansas today!

I make homemade fudgesicles all the time. I use full fat coconut milk, some cocoa powder and sugar with a tablespoon of vanilla extract. (The alcohol in the vanilla helps the texture by not allowing it to freeze as hard.)
Cherry lemonade is another favorite. Just blend pitted cherries with some lemonade and a tablespoon of vodka (again for texture, you can leave it out).
Julie says
The homemade fudgesicles sound AMAZING. I need to make them!!! <3

I’ve never made popsicles before. I don’t really crave cold things in San Francisco. But I do like those flavors. Cool experiment.

Would regular skim milk from a cow work? Haha. I think I want to try some strawberry and kiwi creations!

Definitely!

Great! I am going to try these then before summer leaves us!

The official state fruit of North Carolina is the scuppernong grape. Look for them at farmers markets in September/October!!

Please proofread posts. This is a partnership with Grapes From California…not an idea you dreamed up “while snacking on a handful of frozen grapes,” then had to recreate to measure out ingredients for readers. While I read the full disclosure, the text does not match what the premise of this blog entry is.
Julie says
Hi Meg! I actually did get the idea for the recipe while I was eating frozen grapes and thought it would make a great recipe to share with readers! My partnership with Grapes from CA definitely played a part in me taking the time to photograph everything but short story behind the inspiration for the recipe is true. Thank you for your feedback – I really do try to be transparent so I apologize if this rubbed you the wrong way. Thanks for taking the time to comment!

Those popsicles look so good! I agree about grape flavor; totally gross and not grape-like at all.
I’ve been meaning to ask, why do take a 6pm barre class? I’m also a fan of working out first thing in the morning…but do you fill the rest of the day? Totally not intending to be judgmental- my sister recently quit her job and is struggling with being home all day while her husband works. Is Ryan supportive of your lifestyle, or does he urge you to work/have goals/etc? My sister has found that it has put a serious strain on her relationship and I’d love to be able to give her advice 🙂

Hi Bethany! Here’s a previous blog post that explains a little more about my reasoning for my early-morning workouts: https://www.pbfingers.com/2012/02/08/why-i-still-workout-at-5-a-m/

(makes a new, grape-centric shopping list)
My usuals are Mexican chocolate with avocado, coconut milk, raw cacao & spices and a strawberry coconut milk with lime & avocado hearts (from a silicone candy mold) dropped in the pop mold.
Can’t wait to try yours!!
Linda @ Fit Fed and Happy says
Wow you don’t even see the green leaves! That must be a good blender.

Last summer I tried a recipe from Kim Crawford wines for Yellow Peach and Vanilla Popsicles infused with Sav Blac. They were so refreshing and yummy. Hilariously (I can laugh about it now) I nearly forgot to tell the (underage!) babysitter to steer clear!!

Ha!!! They sound delicious!

Yum! I feel like grapes are neglected among other fruits, but they’re so sweet and tasty!
I love making homemade popsicles, but I haven’t made any in a while. I kind of want to try a PB&J popsicle or something!

Yum! It’s winter here but this week’s been so warm it feels more like summer and those popsicles are looking really good right now. Do you think I could do that with just a hand blender?
Julie says
As long as you don’t mind a chunkier popsicle I think it would be fine!
Katie Horner says
I’ve recently been experimenting with popsicles as well and even got the same mold as you! Check it out at http://kphornerrd.weebly.com/home/summertime-in-the-south
