Green Tea That Doesn’t Taste Like Dirty Water

January 20, 2012 by Julie 144 Comments

Today is a very special day in the Fagan household! Here’s a hint, but in true PBF fashion, you know I’m going to dedicate an entire post to this special day. Stay tuned (if you’re a dog lover, that is)!

dog poop funny

Workout

Today’s workout almost didn’t happen.

I tried to convince Ryan to sleep in, but he got up and got dressed and I couldn’t just stay in bed without feeling like I should get my butt in gear and workout. I wasn’t even tired, I was just so warm.

I give you northerners a lot of credit for working out in the winter. If our house temperature falls into the low 60s, I feel like it’s freezing. Such a baby.

As always, once I got to the gym and started working out, I was glad I went. Isn’t that how it always seems to work?

My workout began with 20 minutes on the elliptical before I did my Targeting Triceps arm workout.

Breakfast

I made myself a mock Egg McMuffin today, only I used a toasted whole wheat bagel in place of an English muffin.

egg bagel sandwich 007

egg bagel sandwich 011

The Canadian bacon made this sandwich. I forgot how much flavor it can add to a breakfast sandwich.

I also sipped on a hot mug of Bigelow pomegranate green tea.

egg bagel sandwich 013

I bought this tea yesterday when I saw it on sale at a local health food store.

I fell in love with the pomegranate green tea when Ryan and I were living in a hotel during the first month that we moved to Ocala. (I do not miss that!)

The hotel always had the tea at their daily breakfast buffet and I quickly made drinking a hot mug of the tea part of my morning routine. I typically think green tea tastes like dirty water, but the pomegranate flavor makes this green tea much more palatable. For my fellow Starbucks fanatics, it reminds me a lot of Starbucks passion tea.

Off to get mah work on! I have a lunch meeting today and hope to have a very productive morning.

Question of the Morning

  • Tea drinkers: What is your favorite kind of tea?

I’m always on the lookout for new kinds of tea to try and would love your recommendations. My favorite is Yogi Egyptian Licorice Mint. Sounds strange, tastes great.

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

My favorite is the Bigelow Chai Tea for breakfast or for green tea, Bigelow Green Tea with Jasmine (makes it a little sweet!). Good job on your workout! I started with a TRX class this morning!

Try Bigelow’s “Constant Comment” green tea…in a red and green box. I’m drinking it now! I don’t know why it’s named that but it’s really good…flavored with orange rind and sweet spice. I’m not usually an orange fan, but it’s really subtle.

I’m definitely trying the pomegrante one!

Ohh man, I am a little TOO enthusiastic about tea! I’m not sure if you have David’s Tea in the U.S. or not (I think it may just be Canadian), but it is TRULY amazing. David’s has over 100 varieties of loose leaf teas in some pretty funky flavours, which change season over season. They have pumpkin pie, candy cane, etc. My FAVOURITE green tea is Starbucks’ Zen Green tea. You might like that too, Julie! It’s got hints of peppermint & lemongrass, so it definitely doesn’t have the “dirty water”/bitter flavour of regular green tea. That said, I love any peppermint green tea (Tetley has a good one). Sometimes (ahem, a lot of times) when I’m feeling the need for an extra energy boost, I sip on earl grey tea – mmmmmm. Earl grey tea with milk is just the best!

I love iced tea the best – i drink it literally every day.. as for hot tea, I like plain ol’ black/English breakfast. Yogi Tea also has some really delish flavors though, including one that tastes like hot cocoa (I think it’s the Moroccan flavor or something, I forget!).

PS. I had emailed you re. this, but asking here might be easier for you: do you have any suggestions for ab strengthening/toning exercises? I’m pretty new to weights/strength training, but want to tone up my core, beyond straight up cardio. 🙂

I’m a huge fan of Starbucks’ Zen tea. It’s a green tea but has a really fresh lemony flavor that balances out the dirty taste. Ooh, and lemon rose tea from Peet’s is incredible.

I am a total tea granny:) Ever since childhood I drink it at least two or three times a day. I generally drink good old orange pekoe (Tetley or Red Rose) in the morning. I also like the Tazo full leaf teas, like Awake or Earl Grey. In the evening I like a very milky (mostly heated milk with a touch of water) Chai tea. I do like green tea too, real Chinese green tea that you get in authentic Chinese restaurants. (My boyfriend is Chinese, so no westernized Chinese food for me since I know the real stuff, though I still like ginger beef on occasion, it’s an Alberta specialty.)

I don’t really have a favorite tea – so many to try – but I love tea! But if I had to pick a couple that I really love, it would be Chrysanthemum tea or Barley tea – both discovered (for me) in China last year. We still have some of the Chrysanthemum tea (literally, they are dried flowers – so cool!), but we never found barley tea to bring back in our short visit. Or a good cup of real green tea – mmmmm….

I have trying to get in to green and herbal teas…Right now I’m all about the coffee and black tea. Over the holidays, I tried a Stash Cranberry Pomegranate tea which was pretty great. I think the problem is that I like my tea/coffee to be creamy, which isn’t really socially acceptable in herbal teas! Happy Friday!
