First things first, my intense love for all of you out there was reaffirmed this morning when I learned that a BUNCH of you own the awesome “no nonsense” socks. Seriously, where did we get them? I love how no one seems to remember where they got the socks, yet we all sport them with pride. Awesome.
Lunch
My morning absolutely flew by and before I knew it, I was rushing out the door to meet up with my friend and awesome fashion blogger J, for a lunch date at Greens & Grille, a fast-casual restaurant that serves fresh salads and sandwiches.
Upon arrival, I scoped out the menu and found myself wanting various combinations of their specialty salads which eventually led me to decide to select the “create your own salad” option.
I chose a mix of romaine lettuce and spring mix greens, topped with edamame, beets, mushrooms, caramelized onions (the best!!!) and broccoli, all tossed together in a balsamic vinaigrette dressing.
It was a big salad but I practically inhaled it. I loved all of the flavors and couldn’t get enough of the caramelized onions. They were so sweet and flavorful.
J and I ate our salads while catching up and chatting about everything from dogs to fashion to blogging and social media.
We actually ended up chatting for almost two hours. I swear anytime I get together with a blogger I can sit there and talk forever.
Now I feel a little behind on today’s to-do list, so I gotta get crackin’. It’s currently pouring outside which doesn’t help my motivation to work. Curling up on the couch with Sadie sounds awfully appealing!
I’m thinking I’ll work with no breaks until 4:30 and then give myself 15 minutes to browse the internet in search of a yummy recipe for dinner tonight before wrapping up for the day around 5:30 p.m. We have lots of veggies on hand (cauliflower, sweet corn, zucchini, green beans) and I’d like to so something creative with all this fresh produce! Any ideas?
P.S. The Fashion page was updated today!
Yumm – that place looks awesome. Anywhere you can get a salad like that is a-ok by me 🙂
aww how fun Julie!! I hope to do a blogger meetup someday soon–it just sounds so delightttfullll 😀 And I love salads like those–not just iceberg lettuce haha
I had my first blogger meet up the other night! you’re definitely right, there’s always something to talk about 🙂
I’d say marinate the zucchini and skewer it, then put it on the BBQ with corn (if it’s on the cob). Yumm!
My mom got me the No Nonsense socks, and I searched high and low for them to get more. Turns out she got them at Walmart – the one place I’d never think to go!
Good luck cracking down on your to-do list!!
I wish there were more bloggers (that I knew of) in my area.. I would love to do little lunch dates!
I love when I can build my own salad at restaurants – I always pile on the veggies!
I have the no nonsense socks too, except I remember where I got them. Walgreens!!
I love No Nonsense socks and buy them at Wal-Mart! I don’t ever wear them for running as I prefer running socks, but they’re my go-to sock for everything else. Most of my friends wear them as well! Move over, Champion!
Mmm, those all sounds like yummy fresh veggies. Maybe blanch or roast them and make some sort of pasta salad (either pesto/vinegar/mayo based).
P.S. so impressed you have the motivation when u work from home to not take a million breaks or a nap! I end up taking a break every 5 min to check my email…and I work from an office! I wonder if people notice…
I was thinking the same thing – I always get distracted working from home. Between my animals, facebook, emails, taking phone calls… I am amazed I get anything done!
Blogger meetups are the best! Glad yall had a good time!
How about a veggie primavera — I’m loving tons of dynamic veggies topped with marinara (and a bit of pasta)
I know it’s hard to not feel behind after having a long lunch with someone you adore – but if you ask me, your time with J was UBER Productive.
I know that everytime I have a great time with a blend, I not only leave feeling exceptionally refreshed but all the social media and blogging talk sparked new creativity and motivation with in me! I have a feeling your the same way! (which makes me even MORE excited for Philly 😉 )
also – ummmm….now i want carmelized onions on a salad. like – STAT.
SO true, heather. 🙂 and i can’t wait for philly either!!! so soon!
I NEED THESE NO NONSENSE SOCKS! I feel they’ll improve my workouts… hehe
Yum that salad looks good. Why is it that salads always taste better when someone else makes it for me?
Ohh that place looks great! I love places where you can create your own salads! I feel like I’m always doing that at places anyway, but they usually don’t like the substitutions!! And I’m very impressed with your dedication! If I were you, I’d be very tempted to work from the couch– and we all know how that usually ends!
I love J’s Everyday Fashion!!! Did you get some great fashion tips too (not like you need them at all though)?! 🙂
Steam cauliflower, sweet corn, beans, and zucchini and toss with salt, pepper, a little bit of olive oil, and lemon juice and any fresh herbs you have on hand and let it cool until it turns into a chilled summer veggie salad 🙂
oooh that sounds awesome!
Yum, I love Greens & Grille and their massive portions! For dinner, you could toss the veggies in balsamic vinegar then bake them and toss with some pasta, parmesan cheese and a little pasta water for pasta primavera!
Stir fry! Or maybe a veggie frittata… yum! 🙂
I got my no nonsense socks from walmart! I wanted to say something this morning but had to go home first to make sure that is what my socks said. 🙂
Maybe I missed it… what’s so great about these socks? LOL
they say “no nonsense!” 😉
Chicken pot pie? I always love that when its cold out…
You can make a super fast crust by combining butter, milk and flour and pouring over the top before baking.
I had a meetup recently where we talked for three hours!! I feel like we’re all kindred spirits 🙂
Blogger meet-ups sound so much fun! 😀 xyx
Hey Julie!
I’m a new reader and I love your blog. I admire how much time you spent on it and your zest for life! We share a lot of the same interests which makes it even more enjoyable for me to read.
Hmmm…I always roast veggies in the oven with a little olive oil. Then you can do whatever you want with them- if you’re craving something different, maybe veggie quesadillas? 🙂
That place is awesome!! <3 it! Their citrus dressing is very yum!
i would say chop it all up and drizzle some olive oil on, then wrap it up in foil and throw it on the grill. spread it over lettuce for a great summer grilled salad!
and thanks for the circuit training ideas this morning…i hate trying to come up with my own!
Carmelized onions go into my category of “what makes any meal great,” along with roasted or grilled veggies.. So yummy!
This is so random for a summer dinner, but when you listed those veggies I totally thout of a vegetable or chicken potpie haha. Although if it’s raining, maybe that would be good despite the season?
That place looks delicious! I also might have to copy that interval workout you did. It looks like a good booty kicker, without being over whelming. Thanks!!
Heat up the grill and make some kebabs! Grilled veggies is the way to go!
YES! Grill your veggies. I LOVE grilled corn, and I make some kick a** cheesy jalapenos! YUMMM! Make them atleast 4 nights a week.
I got my black No Nonsense socks at Walgreens…so random.
Haha I think I got those socks at Walmart ages ago… Your salad looks so vibrant!
Think all if that would be great to incorporate into a breakfast for dinner! A fritatta perhaps?
I think stir fry would be great!
I say fire up the grill with all those veggies! Or make hummus and dip ’em all in. YUMM.
Love your jewelry today!!
toss em with some noodles and soy sauce, i think would be a great meal in itself
I got my no nonsense socks from Wal-Mart and Target!! I thought everyone else did too. haha
even those mushroom almost look caramelized! mmm
That salad looks amazing!!!
You could roast all the veggies and pair them with some meat!
You should make corn and zucchini fritters!! Perfect summer meal!
I can’t believe you went there!! I meant to tell you yesterday that you should check out this salad place near UCF! I ate there last night-got the fall salad (with carmelized onions)!! Glad you enjoyed it!
What a cute restaurant name! Looks like a great salad!
I think the socks are from Walmart!
Glad you got to meet up with a good friend, that’s always the best……. WAIT, I’ve seen her before……….. She posts her pictures on ‘The Limited’ ‘s facebook site! I knew I’ve seen her! CRAZY (small world) She always looks so cute!
I got my “no nonsense” socks from Walgreens YEARS ago! And they are still going strong. 🙂
Ok that’s weird, I commented this morning on the fashion post about how your outfits were so similar, just reversed and then you ended up meeting her for lunch! crazy!
EVERYTHING, but green beans on pizza crusts! Sautee it in evoo, garlic, salt & pepper. Then put toppings on pizza crust with fresh mozarella. oh and tomatoes if you have any… I don’t put any sauce, but if you want put pesto. roast the green beans for a nutty & yummy side!
You’re both so lucky to know each other!! J is my other fav blogger too, absolutely love her fashion sense and she inspires me (fashion wise) everyday…while you inspire me fitness and food wise 😉 I wish I wasn’t all the way over here in CA so I could meet you two!
What about a stir fry with all those veggies and some type of protein for dinner?!
I love brocoli on a salad! I wish I could meet up with more bloggers 🙂
