I know can’t be the only person who misplaces hair ties all the time.
I swear I used to spend an inordinate amount of time looking for my favorite hair ties until I discovered this amazingly simple idea for a hair tie holder on Pinterest.
Brilliant, right?
Plus, I feel like a lot of people have some kind of a promotional carabiner lying around the house that they can use to make this happen. (I actually got the above carabiner at the Race for the Cure 10K at the beginning of this month.)
Ever since I began using the carabiner hair tie holder, I haven’t found myself frantically searching for a hair tie at 5 a.m. Success!
Workout
For the past two days Ryan and I have been playing a little game on the way to the gym that we’ll call “Guess the Temperature.”
Now that it’s chilly in Florida, it’s fun to guess just how chilly it is outside. Today I guessed the exact temperature! 43 degrees. Brr.
When the car’s thermometer got to 47 degrees, one degree below Ryan’s guess, the temperature hovered there for a bit and Ryan started getting cocky. I told him that he already lost because we were playing by Price Is Right rules: Get the closest to the right temperature without going over. Bob Barker knows what he’s talking about. Victory!
Once we made it to the gym, it was time for 20 minutes on the elliptical before I completed an upper body workout that included three sets of 15 – 20 repetitions of the following exercises :
- Superset One: Bicep curls + Ryan’s awesome shoulder move
- Superset Two: Upright row + Tricep pull down
- TRX bicep curls
- TRX tricep extensions
- Push ups
- Tricep dips + Front shoulder raises
- TRX I, Y and T’s
Done!
Breakfast
Today’s breakfast was a good one.
I blended the following ingredients with an immersion blender to make pancake batter for oatmeal Greek yogurt pancakes:
- 2/3 cup old fashioned oats
- 6 ounces Chobani strawberry Greek yogurt
- 1 egg white
Topped with a sliced banana and syrup, these pancakes were a great start to the day.
In case you’re in a pancake-makin’ mood this weekend, I highly recommend making my favorite Greek yogurt pancakes. They’re nice and light and have a slightly eggy texture that I absolutely adore. Perfect for a lazy Sunday!
Speaking of the weekend, any fun plans out there?
I will be spending this weekend with Ryan and my family… including my aunt and uncle who are visiting my parents all the way from Seattle! Since none of my extended family lives in Florida, it’s always special when they come to visit.
I wish everyone lived closer!
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
I need to expand my Pintrest account to include more than just recipes… love the hair tie holder idea!
Lindsay @ In Sweetness and In Health says
That is such a good idea for your hair ties! I always have to buy new packs and then somehow end up with like 2 haha. Do you think blending that pancake batter in a normal blender would work? I don’t have an immersion one. I hope you have an awesome weekend…it sounds like you will! 🙂 I don’t really have any specific fun plans, but I do know that I have virtually NO homework which is amazing!
peanutbutterfingers says
i think so! you might need to add a little milk or something to get it going. a food processor would also work.
Lindsay @ biking before bed says
I love finding uses for all those random freebies. Another good one is using a beer koozie on shaving cream cans so you don’t get those nasty rust rings in the shower.
peanutbutterfingers says
great idea!
Dana says
Hahaha Price is Right rules. Totally pulled that one on my coworker 2 weeks ago. Another [LOUD] coworker started a “half hour” phone call and we were betting to see how long she’d actually be on the phone. I bet 52 minutes, she bet 56. Since it was actually 55, I clearly won with Bob Barker rules 🙂
Molly says
I miss Bob Barker… Price is Right is NOT the same 🙁
Hannah says
I always stuck rubberbands on my keychain, because I always have them on me at the gym!
Tiff @ Love Sweat and Beers says
Brrr indeed! I can’t believe it was 38 degrees when I got up for my run this morning. When did that happen?!?!
Bee Goes Bananas says
Such a good idea! I use a bobby pin to hold my hair elastics, but the ones on the end tend to fall out!
Sarah says
I’m going horseback riding and apple picking with my best friend and her family. Can’t wait! oh, and my sis is baby sitting at our church. HA HA!
P.S- Love the idea! I am always losing my hairbands! Gonna try it.
oh and here is an AWESOME pizza- at- home recipe that’s quick and easy. We’re gonna have it tonight for our family pizza n’ movie night. http://bakedbree.com/buffalo-chicken-pizza
Yes, buffalo chicken pizza! Bon Appetit!

Genius. I have roughly 238953945 hair ties EVERYWHERE, but i can never find ONE when I need it.

Greek yogurt pancakes are my fave; they’re the only pancakes that keep me full for more than an hour!
Hope says
That is such a good idea with the hair ties! I’m going to do that.
Breakfast looks yummy as usual. 🙂 Have fun with your family! I’m looking forward to going to a food show tomorrow. I’m excited for food and drink samples. Yummy!

That really is brilliant. I feel like I spend half my life searching for my hair ties…
Krystina (Organically Me) says
GREAT idea!
I’m trying to convince my boyfriend to go on a little “date”. Either date night at this chocolate factory in Orlando, or pottery painting. Or maybe a nice picnic. 🙂
Sylvia @ Frolic Through Life says
I swear that bobby pins are the same phenomenon as missing socks in the dryer. They disappear never to be found.
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
I love that carabineer you got at the Race for the Cure! Very cute. That is a perfect idea to hold hair ties! Now I just need an idea to keep track of my bobby pins….
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
Excellent idea!! I am so stealing that 🙂
Sylvia @ Frolic Through Life says
That hair tie holder is brilliant! I spend way too much time daily searching for hair ties.
Emma says
How cute/smart!
I always just wear a black hair tie around my wrist. Even when I’m at a fancy event. It’s classy.
Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona says
Carabiners are the best for hair ties. I used to lose them all the time in high school, then I went on a trip with some classmates, and one of them had her hair ties on a carabiner. It’s such a simple idea but I would have never thought of it on my own.
Enjoy the weekend with your family!
Emmarie @ Bananas and Beer says
I have a cabiner on my keys and it’s always filled with hair ties. I always know I can find one on there. But doesn’t it seem like they still manage to disappear anyways?
Emmarie @ Bananas and Beer says
OOps, spell check. Carabiner.
Hilliary @ Happily Ever Healthy says
I love the the carabiner idea! I am always losing my hair ties. In fact I spent a few extra minutes this morning before heading to the gym trying to find a hair tie!
kaitlin @4loveofcarrots says
This is genius and I am currently dumbfounded by the fact that this never crossed my mind. Oh the wonderful world of pinterest!
Steph @ A Life without Ice Cream says
OMG that’s as great idea! I’m actually a little embarrassed I’ve never thought of that (considering the sheer amount of hair elastics I loose!)
Life As Wife says
I’m I the only one who didn’t know that was called a carabiner? hahah
Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie says
I keep my hairties on the back of the bathroom doorknob. My boyfriend that it was cute when he started noticing hairties hanging on his door. Its the easiest place for me to know exactly where they’ll be!
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
yum! Strawberry greek yogurt pancakes!?? Sign me up! And Bob Barker is ALWAYS right. haha
Kim @ The Family Practice says
Awe, I’m from Seattle and just reading that made me miss home so much!
Separatly, don’t you get sort of excited when you can make good use of your immersion blender? I think I make up reasons to use it 😉
Lena @ Fit on the Rocks says
Great idea for the hair tie holder! I’m always able to find one easily, but I can’t ever seem to keep them there. My stash slowly dwindles down until I need to scour the house to find where I put them all.
Rebecca @ Miss Magnolia Munches & Moves says
I can’t ever find ponytail holders either! I try to stash them everywhere…in my car, in my purses, in the bathroom, in my gym bag, but I still can’t ever seem to find one when I need it! I’ll have to try this little trick. Isn’t pintrest genuis for simple solutions?!?
dana a. says
tonight i am going to a campfire put on by cowboys at a ranch and tomorrow the state fair! my sister’s/nieces are performing and i cannot wait to go. sunday, is for church and maybe an errand or two and some cleaning.

Brittany says
That is such a good idea! I am always losing hair ties and end up buying more all the time. I’m pretty jealous that it’s 43 up there! Here in SoFla its only about 68/70 but it’s still gorgeous 🙂
Laura says
I need that holder in my life!!! I think I spend more money on hair ties than in womanly supplies a month. ughhh
Kara says
I plan to have a very Halloween-y weekend! Carving pumpkins with my boyfriend tonight and of course baking the seeds. Then tomorrow, my friend is coming in from Chicago and we’re going apple-picking and I’ll try making some homemade applesauce. Then the haunted high school to get me in the spooky mood! Cant wait =)
Chelsa says
I know that I could probably look on your blog somewhere and find this, but it’s much easier to just ask! Have you always lived in Florida? If you have then what made all the relatives leave to go so far away? If not, how did you and your fam end up in Florida?
Random thoughts! 🙂 Hope you have a great Friday!
Molly says
Somehow whenever I go to make protein pancakes they are terrible. I’m gonna really try to make these pancakes…I can do it! I’m determined!
Nicole @ PancakesandPilates says
This is amazing! Thank you so much for sharing. I ALWAYS loose my hair ties and end up with that really old, stretched thin one that I have to keep readjusting throughout my run. I am doing this as soon as I get home 🙂
Mary says
Great idea, our kitty steals all our hair ties and spends hours playing with them but we can never find one to use. We’ll have to leave her a couple though, cheap entertainment.
Rebecca says
I wish I lived near all my family too!
Erica @ For the Sake of Cake says
Cute idea for the hair tie holder! I lose them all the time too, but I also keep a ginormous pack of them in my dresser drawer so I always have an extra stash!
Amanda @ Justamandaj says
I am beginning to think I need to get on this pinterest bandwagon! Great idea, only I don’t actually own any of those keychain thingies lol
Allie Q (Fit Geek) says
Question! Do you plan in advance what exercises you want to do at the gym or make it up on the fly?
Brandy @ Let's Grab a Coffee says
I wonder where all these hair ties end up? I buy them all the time and never seem to have any within reach.
Rosa - Fitness, Food, Fulfilled says
I’m thinking peanut butter cup baked doughnuts are on the menu for this weekend. Yummy!
We’re visiting a pumpkin patch with my 4 yr old stepson this weekend, which should be so much fun. I love fall!
chelsea says
Ohh that is smart idea for hair ties! I always put all my bobby pins in a little case I got for free with a little lipstick 🙂 Has a zipper and everything! Works perfectly. I’m not longer looking around for bobby pins ha!
But I have a veryyy busy weekend ahead!
Saturday – 5k in the am, shopping with grandma, and then work 7pm-11pm at a parents night out (I’m a gymnastics coach and they’re so much fun! we’re dressing up, having a haunted house, pumpkin painting, etc.)
Sunday – Pumpkin carving party at my gmas house :)!

Hair ties and bobby pins! I lose those suckers like it’s my job!
I’m actually doing a zombie Urban Adventure running race this weekend! We get to dress up, of course, but they said to think Amazing Race crossed with Fear Factor. Should be interesting 🙂
Olivia @ PeanutButterNerd says
I used to use a caribiner as my key chain (all throughout high school/having keys, for some reason) cause it was totally easy to clip wherever. I think maybe it was cool for a while to clip your keys to your belt loop on one, so they jangle around all day.
But I still always used my favourite purple caribiner (purchased for me as a souvenir from my stepdad from Salem) as keys until TrueBlood key chains went on sale to like, $3 at my old work (a very popular Canadian bookstore).
Anyways, I love caribiners and totally used to clip my hair elastics into em ALL THE TIME. But now they just litter the bottom of my gym bag. Thanks for the reminder!!
lauren says
My hair elastics don’t stand a chance. Most of the time mine falls out in my sleep and it is gone by morning, I couldn’t figure out what was going on until I found a stash of them mixed in with my cat’s toys.
I’m going to Salem tomorrow! I’ve never been, so I’m sure it will be interesting. I’m not really into Halloween, but I can get into all that witch trial stuff.
