Oh hey! Fancy seeing you here!
I hope your Wednesday is off to a promising start.
Just in case you’re moving a little slow this morning, I thought you might find comfort in the fact that you are not alone.
Someone else is moving at half-speed this morning.
I really need to take a video of my mornings with Sadie. She’s ridiculous.
First, Sadie barks at the back door to try to convince Ryan to play hooky and stay home from work. She is never successful and once she hears the garage door close, she gives up and returns to the kitchen looking defeated.
I then give her a kiss and a treat and she stands there watching me until I head into my office. She walks behind me, but doesn’t follow me into my office. She just stands in the doorway, looks at me like I’m a huge disappointment and gives a dramatic sigh before turning around to lay on the bed on the guest room. Her exaggerated sigh is way too amusing because it just sounds so human.
Workout
Today’s workout was another power circuit workout from Tina’s Best Body Boot Camp. When I was done, I took some time to stretch and went through a bunch of my favorite hip stretches.
As I was chillin’ in pigeon pose, I started to think about yoga. It has been a while since I’ve taken a yoga class and I think my body is beginning to crave it again. I don’t love the yoga classes that my gym offers (I miss the yoga classes at the Downtown Orlando YMCA!) and classes at local studios are rather expensive, but I think I may shop around for a discount package and try to integrate it into my routine again once BBBC is over. I miss it and know it’s so good for my body.
Breakfast
First, a cup of coffee.
And some eggs!
As I scrambled up my eggs this morning, I stirred in some leftover grits and shredded cheese and loved the creamy, pillowy texture the grits gave to the eggs.
A delicious way to start the day.
Question of the Morning
- Pet owners: Does your pet do anything that strikes you as oddly human?
Ryan and I always laugh at Sadie’s dramatic sighs. She also hugs like a human and puts her two paws on our shoulders.
Brittney @ Brittney Breathing says
My dog has the most outrageous yawn ever! And he groans like an old man when he’s tired…it’s so funny!
Rachel says
My dog Gracie is a little maltipoo and not only does she do the overly dramatic sigh like Sadie, but she also burps like a human!! It never fails, after she eats she comes and jumps up on the couch or bed, settles into her spot, and lets out the loudest burp I have ever heard. I swear it is louder than a mans burp! I crack up every time!
Ericka says
That is so funny, my dog does the same thing! After he eats, he comes over and burps like a person! He doesn’t fart, but he sure does burp!
Ericka says
I always say that my dog is part human…at least he thinks he is! He does the same type of thing in the mornings. Makes me feel guilty for going to work. He lays on the couch with this head on the pillow, just like a person, and he thinks he needs to lay in the middle of the bed with us at night. He just has SUCH a personality, it’s so funny, I love it!
Linz @ Itz Linz says
Zoey seriously responds to us as we talk to her! She responds by tilting her head (which is the cutest thing ever), wagging her tail, or running in the direction of where we are headed!
Anne says
I love head tilts! They’re the best on dogs.
Jackie says
We carry sparky like a baby on our hips! He loves it!
Katelyn says
My dog Daphne does the rediculous sigh as well! Also, when she is mad at me, for instance if I do not give her any of my food or if I yelled at her for digging in the trash or something, she completely ignores me. Ill try to make eye contact with her and talk to her or something, and she just gives me the cold shoulder and avoids any and all eye contact. Such a drama queen!
Carly @ Snack Therapy says
My roommate’s dog is such a sassy little thing. I sometimes call her Missy Elliot, because that’s who I picture her being if she was human. She is so funny!
Nicole says
They snore. They tilt their heads when you talk to them like they know EXACTLY what we are saying.
The Kidless Kronicles
Lisa says
Tortuga is definitely part human! One time our cat jumped up on the kitchen table and she lept up from the couch, ran over to the table and started barking at him in way that definitely conveyed “HEY!!!! Get down from there! That’s not *allowed*!!!” Then looked at us like “you guys, I told him that’s not allowed. Can I get a treat?” She cracks us up!
Cristina says
My yorkie Zoe, does the same thing! Her reactions and sigh’s are so human; when its time for bed (she either sleeps with my mom of myself) she burrows and walks around in a circle on the bed, plops down and heaves a loud sigh. She’s seriously too cute; reading about Sadie reminds me so much of Zoe and her mannerisms 🙂
Jody says
I think our pets spend so much time with us that just learn some of our behaviours. Lillly does big sighs when she wants to play but we want to chill out. Her morning routine is also amusing but my poor husband would never leave the house if Lilly varked at him the whole time. She get a special treat whenever I leave the house which is her favorite so once he leaves she knows I’m leaving shortly after and she starts to get excited that we are leaving knowing she gets the yummy treat. I’ve never had a dog who is so happy to see me put on my coat. lol. But I get the sighs along with a little temper tamtrum on the days I do work from home and she suddenly realized I’m not giving her a treat. She actually goes upstairs where I can hear her stomping around until she finally decides to lay down and take a nap. It’s hilarious. And I totally need to video her reaction the the Biran Urlacher Xfinity commerial that has been on. There is a dog late in the commercial and she knows that so as soon as she hears Brian start talking in the commercial she starts talking/barking at the TV, it looks like she doesn’t like Brian (and maybe she doesn’tt) but it’s probably just her getting excited about the dog at the end. It cracks me up everytime.
Megan says
Fun morning! Sasha’s energy levels in the morning are insaneeee. Her human like qualities are when she is laying on the floor while we are parked on the couches and will stare at us and groan, like a “harumph”. She does it ALL the time!
Nicole says
My dog hugs like a human too, it is the BEST feeling in the world! This morning it’s bad weather in NY so he couldn’t go out and do his business because he is a diva so he laid around depressed until it was going to stop raining. He’s so dramatic I love it!
Carla says
My dog always covers his eyes with his paw or a blanket when we turn the lights on in the morning. It never fails to make me laugh!
Elizabeth says
My pom Nala whistles! It’s funny I really think she is trying to bark but a whistle comes out instead.
Erin K L says
My chocolate labs do a lot of things that are oddly human. My older dog, Angel, also sighs and she gives hugs. My younger dog, Reagan, will drag a blanket or pillow around so she has somewhere to rest her head when she sleeps. She is also half asleep in the morning. They both stretch all the time, I call it dog yoga.
Lindsay says
Sadie is the cutest! I have a cat, and there’s really nothing human about him haha, but he’s the cutest!!
Sarah @ Making Thyme for Health says
I love your story about Sadie, so cute! One of my dogs speaks to us and it really sounds like she’s trying to talk. Whenever we kiss each other she starts talking like, “hey, what about me?”
Maureen says
Sadie is too funny! Sometimes we can get Sasha to mimic us and it almost sounds like she is saying “good morning” or “I love you.” Or maybe we just THINK it sounds like that! Pet owners are a weird bunch! 😉
Cortni says
My boyfriend and I always say that my dog, Clementine is such a human! She moans and groans at us all of the time. She will reach out and hug and dance with me. Also, on more than one occasion we have caught her sneaking into our guest bedroom, under the covers with her head on the pillow. She is so ridiculous. There is a picture of her here…hahha

Christine says
Sadie is such a character! Our dog also sighs like a human and it cracks us up. And he snores, just like my husband.
Rachel @ Undercover Diva: A Sitcom says
My dog also sighs like a human, but its usually when he’s trying to sleep and someone is bothering him. He can also ‘say’ “water” and “outside” when he wants either of those things. It’s so bizarre.
Emily @ 2:DESIGN:CENTS says
I don’t own a pet but my friend’s cat reminds us of a male player-dominator-ladies charmer. He seriously ALWAYS gravitates towards the women in the house, it’s super funny.
Corie says
Our dog Lola sleeps under the covers with her head on the pillow. And at some point in the night she will curl up next to one of us and drape one of her paws across our chest to cuddle. It is way too cute.
Erin (Running Tall) says
My chocolate lab (also named Sadie!) does that exaggerated sigh too! When she realizes she’s not going to come up on the bed and snuggle, she literally flings herself onto her place and does a big sigh. What a drama queen. She also like to put her paws on your shoulder when she’s sitting with you and I’ve even caught her sitting upright on her butt like a human! It’s so weird so see her do that haha.
Amber Mitchell says
My heeler smiles..no joke! And my lab jumps on the trampoline, it used to be only when my son would be jumping but now we catch him doing it all the time, he’s a mess! You should definietly post a video of her, she sounds hilarious!
Emily @ FitMamaInTheCity says
My boxer LOVES to “sun tan”. He will follow the sun that shines through the window through the day so he is constantly sunbathing.
Morgan says
I cannot tell you how many mornings I have woken up, rolled over, and was face to face with our Jack Russell. She likes to sleep with her head on the pillow and all tucked in under the covers. Dogs are the best. There is no way to have a bad day after waking up to that.
Ashlee says
Meee too! I love Daiya in my eggs! It gives it that greasy, diner feel without all the unhealthy fats and calories.
Georgia Mae says
My dog sighs too! And when we make her sit when she doesn’t want to she makes this grumbling sound, not a growl, but like a “harumph” haha I miss her so much being away at college!
Ashley @ Life and Fitness says
My dog def. thinks she is a human. I swear she knows when someone is sick in my family because she will not leave their side even for a second. She also whines only when certain people leave like she is saying goodbye.
Amanda says
Thanks for including the link to your favorite hip stretches. Have you ever considered adding a “stretches” category to your workouts section/page? I think this would be a great addition to your already fabulous blog. 🙂
Becky says
I feel the same way about yoga- I need it, but the classes at my gym aren’t great and aren’t at good times for me! I ordered the Shiva Rae- Daily Energy Flow Yoga DVD from Amazon and it totally kicks my butt! There are a bunch of pre-set yoga practices, but then also a “yoga matrix” where you can pick and choose from over 10 different mini-sets and put them together to focus on what you want. I’m obsessed- totally worth it for $15!
Jeanie @ Breakfast for Dinner says
My year old Golden Retriever, Tucker, follows me around the kitchen when I’m cleaning or cooking. He is a big feet layer, and therefore once I stop for a second he immediately lays on my feet. The human-like action arrives when I get up, because Tucker sighs like he is annoyed that I keep moving! It is quite funny!
Anne says
Whenever she lays down on the floor, it’s this dramatic thud, as if she’s given up. The sound was much more dramatic on our wood floors at our old apartment. The carpet in our house doesn’t give quite the same effect.
Julie says
When I am eating something that my dog likes (and of course sharing with him), if I don’t feed him at a rate that he feels is acceptable, he taps me on the leg with his paw when we are on the couch together or shuffles from foot to foot while sighing if he is on the floor. Too precious.
Kate @ Quarter Century Southern Living says
Haha, Sadie is too cute! Nola sleeps in between Dan and I. Last night, her body was tucked under the covers but her head was out with ours. It was too funny 🙂
Amy @ Healthy and Fit for Real says
This might not be “humanish” (real word, I swear!) but Aspen will yawn with a squeal/moan when she is excited about going for walks/playing outside and it is hilarious! 🙂
Lauren says
Sadie sounds a lot like one of my dogs! She tends to lay on the couch with the pillow and blankets and sighs.. It always makes me laugh! My other dogs just randomly burps which always funny when there is company at our house
Meg O'Brien says
Check out http://www.yogadownload.com for free 20-minute yoga workouts with videos. I have downloaded 4 different classes with videos and they are great to do at home. If you have extra time, combine 2 or 3 of them for a longer workout. My 10-year old dog is a heeler/chow cross and she “talks”…it is actually more like a “mooooo” sound LOL. Each night around 7 pm she will stare us down and start to cry/moan to be invited up onto the couch with us. So I then spread out her couch cover and ask her to come up to her corner spot, which is the only place she will lay. She doesn’t get on any other furniture and won’t come up unless asked to!
Annette@FitnessPerks says
Fluffy eggs! So delicious! I don’t have any pets right now, so I can’t relate, but that sounds hilarious!
Rachel C says
My dog is also a fan of the dramatic sigh. Cracks me up!
Plus, she likes to roll her eyes. Such a drama queen. 🙂
Marie says
My mom swears that our family dog, Woody, is saying “OOOOOUUUUUTTTT” when he does this exaggerated howl to let us know he wants to go outside and play. I think she may be stretching a bit but we all laugh now everytime he does it.
I just started doing yoga in the last few months or so and besides seeing immediate results in my flexibility (which was beyond horrible when I started) I really keep with it because of how calm my mind and energized my body feels after each class.
Mallory @ ifgravityhappens says
My dog does that same sigh, it always cracks us up and makes us think the life of a dog must be so rough! 😉 I just wrote a post about yoga today!!! Finally gave it a fair shot and LOVED it!!!
Danielle Stuart says
I absolutely love your blog! It’s inspired me to update mine more often and to get more serious about it! Yoga has been the best thing and I’ve found that I notice such a huge difference if I don’t do it. Do you do hot yoga often at all? Love it!
Sherri says
You SERIOUSLY make me want a vizsla. BAD.
Lindsay and Tim @ Fit with Farrar says
Our English lab, Bo, is the exact same way!! The sighs, huffing and puffing, groaning – way too human and we crack up every single time!!
Karen says
When I pet my dog, Steve, he moans like he is getting a massage! It’s hilarious!
Jessica says
My dog loves to sleep on her back stretched out on the couch. She’s a husky so she is very talkative too. She understands the words food, water, outside, and love. I go through these when she wants something and when I come to a certain word she’ll howl for what she wants.
Victoria @ Reluctantly Skinny says
This cracked me up because I had plans to go for a run at 6am with a friend, and we cancelled because it’s pouring and I went back to bed until 12! Definitely half speed for me today!
