The selection in my secret foodie drawer wasn’t calling to me either, so I walked a couple of blocks to Caffe Ritazza and picked up a ginormous salad to enjoy.
On the side I ate a peanut butter and chocolate bite.
How good does that little dessert look? Well, it tasted about 5 times less delicious than it looked. I still ate the whole thing, but it was a bit disappointing.
At least my salad rocked! 😀
Honeymoon Update
Our honeymoon is halfway planned.
We have a destination selected and a resort booked for Sunday and Monday nights (with the potential to extend our stay).
On Sunday, Ryan and I have plans to drive south for several hours to the Florida Keys for a couple of days of exploration, relaxation and consummation. <– What? It is our honeymoon. 😉 (My mom is probably passing out right now. 😀 )
I cannot wait to tell you all about the place where we’re staying. It looks beyond amazing. It’s luxurious, private and unbelievably gorgeous. You cannot even get to the resort by car! I can’t wait! 😀
As for the second half of our honeymoon, we’re still undecided. Here are our current ideas:
- 4-day cruise
- Charleston, South Carolina (This means a lot of driving)
- Naples, Florida
- Sanibel Island, Florida
Though I am incredibly excited about our plans to visit the Keys, I am a little bummed. Ryan and I should be in St. Lucia right now. 🙁 I know that whatever we do will be absolutely amazing, but I’d be lying if I said I pictured myself spending my honeymoon in the United States.
I am trying to focus on the important things like our safety and our new marriage. We were lucky not to be in St. Lucia when the hurricane hit. We are also lucky to receive full refunds from the airline and resort where we were planning to stay. And, most importantly, we just got married and will have the best time no matter where we go.
They say home is where the heart is… Well, a honeymoon is where the newlyweds are! 😀

a mega bummer but at least you have the right attitude!

I hate that you weren’t able to go where you wanted to go. I’ve been feeling so bad for both of you since you posted about it 🙁 BUT, I am happy to hear that at least you got your refund, you have some options, (I vote for Sanibel because I LOVE it there,) and it looks like your wedding was so beautiful. I think you are handling this very, very well.

I vote Sanibel as well. Well Captiva if you can. My family have time shares at South Seas on Captiva and we have been going there a couple of times a year for over 30 years. My husband and I love it so much we got married there and my uncle is going to get married there this May.

Hi Julie! love your blog & read it everyday 🙂 My fiancee and I had a travel issue sort of like this and ended up not being able to get to our vacation planned in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. We were BUMMMED but decided to make the best of it and plan a last minute trip to Las Vegas (we live in San Diego). It ended up being one of the best trips we’ve ever gone on & made me realize why I wanted to marry him even more 🙂 I PROMISE you guys will have an amazing time wherever you go!

That salad looks delicious! Glad to hear your honeymoon plans are falling into place! 🙂

Hang in there, Julie – you seem to have the right attitude about the honeymoon! I also went to St. Lucia on my honeymoon and had to leave early because of a massive hurricane in 2007. It was S-C-A-R-Y. We were on the last flight they let leave the island, thank the heavens. So you’re way better off just never getting down there, as opposed to having to cut it short and scramble to rearrange flights and such from another country – not cool.
You guys will have a blast – whatever you decide!

Have a great time in the Keys!!! I encourage you to finish up your honeymoon on a cruise! You will be out of Florida and you can just relax.

I had a similar circumstance, and wound up being in Auckland, NZ which is not where I wanted to go nor where I pictured, but we used the $$ saved to go all out and ate at all the best places and had a lot of fun anyway 🙂 From this outsiders point of view a big driving trip in the SE USA sounds like a dream come true! i hope you enjoy and get some beautiful weather wherever you go.

Honestly you sound pretty ungrateful. You two lived together before you were married so I’m not sure what is so different about being ‘newlyweds’ & you are acting like you absolutely HAVE to have a honeymoon. A lot of people, especially in this economy, don’t even have the money to be able to have a big fancy wedding, let alone go somewhere IN the USA…………………………………………………………
