Good morning and happy Friday!
My Friday morning began with not-so-overnight oats. I forgot to prep the oats last night, so I prepared a batch this morning and let them soak while I made myself a cup of coffee and checked my emails. They weren’t really ready for eating by the time I wanted to dig in, so I just made it work.
I like cold oatmeal anyway, so this wasn’t too shabby. It just looks horrible.
Halloween Costumes for Dogs
Last night I had a lot of fun shopping with my friend Amanda. Her mother’s birthday is next week and Ryan’s birthday is October 5, so we teamed up to shop together after work and had a lot of fun in the process.
While we were out, we stumbled upon a pretty fabulous collection of Halloween costumes for dogs at TJMaxx.
I thought the donkey costume would look so cute on a dog with naturally droopy eyes like a sweet basset hound. They could pretend to be Eeyore!
We saw a wide range of costumes including cheerleader, turtle, lobster, skeleton and pumpkin costumes for dogs. Every costume was adorable and absolutely ridiculous at the same time. My favorite costume was the shark costume and I came pretty close to buying it for Sadie this year.
We always quote Finding Nemo and call Sadie “Shark Bait” (Oh Ha Ha!) whenever we swim in the ocean with her, so it seemed like a very fitting selection. In the end I decided to forgo the purchase since Sadie usually just wears her little pumpkin t-shirt on Halloween.
Fun fact: Sadie’s name was actually Pumpkin before we got her and changed it to Sadie!
When I arrived home and told Ryan about the costume finds at TJMaxx, we had a good time looking up hilarious costumes online.
Here are some of our favorite finds:

That dog’s face cracks me up. Not amused.
It’s SuperDog:
I hope these adorable pups made you smile!
Question of the Morning
- Have you ever dressed a pet up for Halloween?
Sarah says
Last year our beagle was a hot dog. In previous years, she’s been a shark (just the fin), a banana, and Indiana Jones. 🙂
Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
A banana! Haha! I love it.
Michelle @ A Healthy Mrs says
Nothing cuter than a dog in a costume! I still need to find one for my dog this year…
Have a great weekend!
Rebecca @ Soft Serve and Squats says
This absolutely made me smile. Especially the Super Dog one! Have a great weekend 🙂
Erin @ The Almond Eater says
These are hilarious!! Sadie’s pumpkin costume is perfect. Sometimes, I feel bad for dogs that are forced to wear embarrassing costumes, but only after I get a good laugh in first.
Jess @ What The Efff says
Yes! Last year we had one dog as a pig and another as a dinosaur!! I’m excited to get out and find something fun for this year, too!
Lisa says
Oh my gosh, I just got really excited that this year I have a dog I can dress up for Halloween;)
I think it’s so adorable when they have little costumes on.
Now to decide which one!
Chelsea @ BigBitesLittleBudget says
SO fun!! I love Halloween and seeing dogs dressed up makes me crack up. Growing up, my mom always dressed up as the wicked witch of the west and made our dog her “flying monkey”.
Alicia says
This is histerical! Last year, we bought the headless horseman outfit from Target for our pitbull Ross. He wore the horseman around his body and then wore a chariot helmet…love Halloween costumes for dogs!
Ashley@ashleyunfiltered says
I use to dress my dog up as a witch and she had the saddest eyes ever time the costume came out. Once she passed away I tried a few years later to get my cat to wear the hat part… didn’t go so well. So now I manage to get a shirt on his that says “some mummy loves me” it doesn’t last long though as cats DO NOT like to be dressed up.
Katherine says
I have a little black pug and an 85 lb. pit mix. Last year the pug was Batman and the pit was Robin. It was a very big hit with all of the kids in the neighborhood.
Chelsea @ A Fit LittleOne says
I love costumes for dogs!! Love the one where “two” are carrying the box, and of course the chia pet one. That dogs, face made me laugh so hard! I have a little witch hat that I put on my dog, but she is pretty good at getting it off, so very rarely does it go on haha.
Kelly @ Kelly Runs for Food says
Oh my gosh, so cute! I haven’t dressed up my dog, but I have a black cat and she really gets into Halloween so I sometimes put some “decorations” on her. She has a Santa collar that she wears at Christmas time too.
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
Oh my! I love those photos! We always dress my family dog up for Halloween! I think he loves it. 🙂
Emily @ Emily Rocks the Road says
I wanted to get Duke a banana costume since Squish was going as a monkey. But since my mom made the costume and kept it a surprise, so I wasn’t able to order a doggie banana suit in time. Instead we found a Superman costume for Duke. It was just a red cape and a blue chest plate with the “S” on it. We called him “SuperDuke!!”
Hannah Davison says
My family totally got the lobster costume from TJ Maxx for our dog! It’s the most hilarious thing I’ve ever seen, I can’t wait until she wears it!
Jackie Macharsky says
We always dress up sparky! Last year he was a pirate!
Lauren says
I am guilty of putting my dog in anything! He even has his own little Eagles’ jersey he wears on game day!
Erin says
I was actually just looking at pet costumes the other day too! We have two dogs or I guess still considered puppies.. Lily is 1 year and Jack is about 7 months old. Unfortunately we won’t be dressing up lily because after a really scary allergy attack she just had (they don’t know why or how it happened. Think some kind of bug bit her a few times. She swelled up like a balloon she had hives all over her body. Her eyes were so swollen she could barely open them!) but then a few days ago she hurt her leg and we found out yesterday it is a torn ACL :(. But jack is suchhh a cookie/treat lover he will stalk whoever he thinks has the cookies so I laughed when I saw this costume cause he totally is a Cookie Monster!!

Ashlee@HisnHers says
haha I still love the hot dog dog costume eventhough it’s a little played out
Sara @ LovingOnTheRun says
My pets would have NOTHING to do with this! They would never ever allow it but I still think it is super cute 🙂
Jamie @ Sometimes Healthy Living Blog says
Sadie looks positively adorable in that pumpkin shirt! I’m going to have to show it to my BF in my endless campaign to adopt a vizla to keep our energetic lab company. No dress-up for Halloween, but for Christmas he has reindeer ears and he looks positively adorable.
Ashley @ Life and Fitness says
Hahaha I love pet costumes so much! My dog is going as Yoda this year. The ears sit around the neck like a collar. Btw, if you ever want to speed up not so overnight oats, stick them in the freezer for 5-10 minutes. Does the trick!
Miranda @ Lovely Wife Lovely Life says
We bought a costume for my little dog, but she flat out HATED it. She’d wiggle around on the ground trying to get it off until we had pity and took it off of her. She looked so cute in her little princess costume through! She had a crown and little booties along with pink ruffly dress 🙂
Nikki V says
We have not YET dressed up our dogs for Halloween. I would love to get a halo and wings for Hana and horns and pitch fork for Jack! I think that would be so cute!!
When we had Axel our German Shepherd, I got him a t-shirt for Christmas that said “Give me a present or I’ll pee on the tree!” So cute and fitting because one year when he was a pup he actually peed on the tree!
Paige says
I love to dress up my chihuahua/ boston terrier mix for Halloween! I actually got her a little cheerleader outfit from Target that says “Rah Rah Ruff”…. looks so stinkin’ adorable on her!! She prances when she walks, so it looks like she’s strutting her stuff in her cheerleader outfit!! Sadie is adorable BTW! Have a great weekend! 🙂
Laura @losingrace says
OMG I love all these. I have dressed up pets before, my sister does it more though. She has a little Boston Terrier that fits well into costumes. He’s been a shark and a bee the last few years. I’m not sure what she is going to do with him this year. I think she is more excited that she actually has a baby to dress up this year!
Christine @ www.idratherbesweating.com says
I got my dog the shark costume for this year! One year we dressed our weiner dog up as a football. Last year because we have a baby now, she dressed up as a flower and he was a bumble bee. This year we are going for a sea theme and out daughter will be an octopus and Cody (our dog) will be a shark! He doesn’t like to be dressed up but he tolerates it!
Jenn says
hahah! These dog costumes had me laughing out loud! I wish I was going to be home for the holiday so I could dress Allegra up. I know Dean won’t do it 🙁
Missy says
We dressed our pup up in a pumpkin costume last year and I absolutely adored it, he looked SO cute! Now that we have adopted another little one, a girl, I kind of want to dress them up in matching costumes like Superwoman and Superman or something along those lines but haven’t had anything catch my eye yet.
Jessica R @ FromtheKitchentotheRoad says
I really like the Chia Pet costume. So funny! If I had a pet I would totally dress it up. They are so cute!
Natalie @ Free Range Human says
I love the Harry Potter costume! There is no way my dog would let me get away with putting a costume on him. He’d rip it to shreds in minutes!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
Haha I love the dog costumes! We try and dress up my brother’s golden retriever, but she always rips the outfit off as soon as possible!
Linz @ Itz Linz says
zoey has several halloween costumes… mostly because i buy them after halloween when they’re on sale for lke $2! but she usually rocks her pumpkin shirt as well! 🙂 though she does make a pretty cute pig. or a mermaid. or a clown.
Ashley @ BrocBlog says
I love the eeyore dog costume that is too funny! My dog has too much spunk to tolerate costumes and accessories but maybe someday I can convince her.
Whitney @ Pancakes and Tulips says
We dress up Laverne as a lobster every year. It is sort of a joke in our family because I wore a lobster costume in 3rd grade and then my younger sister wore the same costume we she got big enough. It was an obvious choice that Laverne would be a lobster as well!
Kimberly says
Awww, the donkey costume is absolutely adorable! I want to get a lion’s mane for my dog. He’s Sadie’s color so I think it would be a perfect fit!
Taylor @ Single-tracked Mind says
I feel so bad for dogs in costumes!!! I’d get the stink eye from my parents’ dog for sure.
Marcee says
Yep …. I agree. They give you “whites” …. of their eyes and definitely think you are talking about them behind their backs. Just terrible. Leave em alone folks.
Heather @ Run Eat Play says
Adorable!! My husband had a Rottweiler and I would always try to dress him up but my husband would get so mad! lol! I guess a Rottweiler and a cute costume don’t mix 🙂
Ellie says
Ha ha oh my goodness! These are all too hilarious and so so cute!!!! The Harry Potter one and the one with the gift are so clever. And I think Sadie would match something like a shark because she’s so energetic unlike the donkey costume 😛
Sarah @ Sweet Miles says
Hilarious! We keep thinking how funny it would be to make our black lab into a black cat for halloween. Kroger has a set of cute black cat ears, and we thought it would be so funny to put them on her! Ha, ok, maybe we only thought the irony there was funny 🙂
cait @PieceOfCait says
The harry potter one is hilarious !!!!
Meredith says
I have a Vizsla too!! I would love to find a pumpkin shift for her…do you know where to find one? Thanks 🙂
Annette@FitnessPerks says
HAHA. Some of these are so hilarious! Love the HP one.

Those pictures are hilarious!

I love dressing my dog up for Halloween!
he’s been a firefighter, a bee, but lately I’ve been going for the Halloween-ish clothes (multi functional) with a skeleton hoody….
I haven’t decided what to do this year.
Shel@PeachyPalate says
I don’t but my friend dresses up her little dog every year!!! Some of them are awesome…if Sadie doesn’t mind you should so dress her up….fitness gear!!
Kate @ Trekking Kate says
One of my favorite things about Halloween is seeing animals dressed up! So cute, and funny!
Courtney @ Don't Blink. Just Run. says
So funny! We only have cats, which don’t enjoy being dressed up. However, last xmas, we put a santa hat w/ beard on our boy cat and little elf ears on our girl cat. So cute!
Marcee says
Seems cruel to stuff their bodies in goofy outfits. I’m not for it. A simple scarf is ok. Call me square maybe?
There are tons of poochies that Trick Or Treat w/their families in our neighborhood. We wrap treats for them. The x-large Milkbones or things that are easy to give. I put them in food safe cello bags w/Halloween decor. The parents really get a kick out it! Their smiles are rewarding.
