This Monday has been full of catch up as most Mondays seem to be for people everywhere. My morning whizzed by and lunchtime popped up before I knew it.
I made myself some pesto chicken salad with about half of an avocado, a shredded chicken breast, carrots, celery and my sunflower seed and walnut pesto.
I cooked a few chicken breasts in the crock pot yesterday (using this incredibly easy method) so I could have them on hand to assemble super-fast meals like this one throughout the week. That tiny bit of prep work saved me lots of time this afternoon.
I was afraid the avocado that I used in my chicken salad would be too bruised to eat after gently squeezing it, but when I cut into it, I saw beautiful green and no brown. Hooray!
I ate my chicken salad with a cold, crisp Jazz apple on the side.
Healthy Living Blogs for Men
Lately I’ve received a handful of emails from you guys and a couple from your boyfriends and husbands asking me about healthy living blogs by men. I felt bad that I only had about two “man blogs” to recommend!
As someone who absolutely loves blogging and reading blogs, I think it’s so much fun to discover new blogs. Though the majority of bloggers out there are apparently male (according to a Technorati study about blogger statistics), the vast majority of blogs I read are maintained by females.
I found myself at a loss for a bunch of blogs to recommend to those who were reaching out to me hoping to find some great blogs by guys. I put a call out on Twitter this morning and the following food, fitness and/or healthy living blogs maintained by men were recommended to me:
- Swimmer Joe
- The Athlete’s Plate
- Mark’s Daily Apple
- Angry Trainer
- No Meat Athlete
- L-Jay Health
- Pavement Runner
- Frugal Fitness
- The Food in My Beard
- Sweating Until Happy
- Robb Wolf
- Danny McLarty
- 70’s Big
- Jeremy Scott Fitness
Hopefully you’ll love ‘em all!
Question of the Afternoon
- What is your favorite blog that is maintained by a guy?
- What is your favorite blog that isn’t a healthy living blog?
The Didactic Pirate is one of my favorite blogs that is maintained by a man and not related to healthy living.
Ha. Honestly, I don’t think I read any healthy living blogs written by men. I have a few social media/business type ones written by men, but that’s about it.
I read a ton of fashion blogs- some of my favorites are Cupcakes & Cashmere, Atlantic Pacific, The Rockstar Diaries and Honestly WTF!
Hi Julie! I have a question–and I know you don’t post everything you eat, so that’s why I wanted to ask!
I notice that you don’t seem to eat a lot of carbs in the form of grains with the meals you show on the blog (lunch and dinner) and wondered if there was a reason for it? I am not trying to attack your eating or anything… I was just curious from a health perspective! I notice that when I sometimes eat carbs (oatmeal) in the morning it makes me lethargic and so I wondered if perhaps you experience the same thing throughout the day?
On a side note: the chicken pesto looks amazing and I’ve added it to my must try Julie-recipes! 🙂
hi cindy! there’s honestly not a reason for it other than i just eat whatever we have on hand and i’m in the mood to eat at the moment. sometimes my dinner will be pasta with veggies, other times it may be salmon, a sweet potato and veggies. in today’s case, we haven’t been to the grocery store yet (hoping to go tonight), so i used stuff we had on hand.
I just started reading a blog about a girl who has signed up for online dating. She blogs about each of the dates she goes on- so far very disastrous!
no way! what’s the name of it? sounds like a fun read!
http://www.matchthisgirl.com/ …hope you enjoy it ad much as I do 🙂
The Rockstar Diaries is hands-down my fav non-healthy living blog. It’s more of a cool lifestyle blog. Reagansblob.com was one of my favs also when she was blogging more! I also like nieniedialogues, her story is amazing!
I actually don’t read any male healthy living blogs! I probably should! I’ll check out some of these. I love style me pretty!
I only knew about a couple of the guys’ healthy living blogs too! But if you’re looking for some running inspiration, check out Pavement Runner – http://pavementrunner.com/. Brian is awesome!
I don’t read any male healthy living blogs. I like reading coupon and wedding related blogs aside from the healthy living and cooking ones. 🙂
what an interesting topic!! I always thought it was so strange that most of us food+healthy living bloggers (especially) are females….huhhh! And I have a few favorite non-healthy living blogs! burpandslurp (funny+amazingwriter+friend :P), somethingswanky, 101cookbooks, alexbeadonphotography, and attemptingaloha. Sorry I can’t make up my mind! 😛
How Sweet Eats is my favorite non-healthy living blog! I’ve tried a handful of her recipes and they all turn out grrreat!
Great idea, Julie! Every single one of the blogs I follow is written by a female, so I can’t really recommend any man blogs! I have a few favourite non-healthy living blogs including: cupcakesandcashmere.com, .thehairpin.com, thebeautydepartment.com, + apartmenttherapy.com.
oo this makes me miss avocado haha it’s such a nice addition 🙂 enjoy it because I became allergic overnight haha
I follow the No Meat Athlete! Mostly for running things though!
This has nothing to do with today’s questions but I just wanted to let you know that I took my little sister (can I still call her that if she is almost 17 haha) to see the Katy Perry movie and saw a preview for Pitch Perfect and immediately thought of you because of your love for Pentatonix and their acapella songs! It looks like a really cute movie! AND… I love that Rebel Wilson from Bridesmaids is in it and plays a character by the name of Fat Amy haha 🙂
oh my gosh, when i saw the previews for that i got WAYYYY too excited. it looks AMAZING!
Fat Amy is going to MAKE THAT MOVIE! That girl is sooooooo dang funny. I’ve watched the previews over and over again just to see her lines.
“I’VE BEEN SHOT!!!!” bahahaha!
I passed this link on to my husband. He’s just recently taking a bigger step in the direction of living a healthier lifestyle (so proud of him!) and I hope he’ll find a couple good resources here 🙂 Thanks!
that’s wonderful! i hope he finds a few he enjoys.
That’s cool! I don’t really read any from men, actually. Sometimes I read forums and such on lifting from men–but not really blogs. Thanks! 🙂
I really like Young House Love!
i love that blog, too!
I like http://www.344pounds.com/ a daily fitness and healthy lifestyle blog from a guy who lost over 130 lbs. It was one of the first blogs I read.
Thanks for bringing me back to the Didactic Pirate Julie! I forgot how much I love that one!
#1 have no idea of any male blogs.
#2 i’ve been a pioneer woman blog reader practically since she started it (too much butter for it to be a “healthy living” blog 😉 and i love hero arts blog … along with a few dozen other stamping/scrapbooking blogs. 🙂 too hard to pick a favorite! 🙂
Slaughterhouse 90210 and Suri’s Burn Book are my two favorite “non-HLBs” that I read. They are absolutely hilarious.
I adore “Eden Eats Everything” … She cracks me up!!!!
I might have to direct Kyle to some of these!
Anyone mention Nerdfitness.com? It’s pretty awesome 🙂
Oooo thank you! I will be showing these to my bf. My favorite non healthy living blog is Buy Now Blog Later. She is really cute, writes well and has great taste.
Girl! Thank you so much for this! My husband and I were googling mens sites and could find none. If you know of any weight lifting ones for guys, let me know! Thanks again!
Another vote for Nerd Fitness…it’s run by a guy, but it’s great for the nerd in all of us!
Thanks for this list!! Can’t wait to pass it off to my hubby tonight! 🙂
My husband actually introduced me to blogging. He has created a few blogs in his day. His healthy living blog is http://www.becomeabeast.com.
I love No Meat Athlete, Young House Love and Wise Running!
I love Women on the Fence and J’s Everyday Fashion Blog!! Also, the Pioneer Woman is incredible and makes me want to eat every non-healthy food that she makes!!
i read sodelushious.com by supermodel chrissy teigen. her writing style is hilarious and her food is absolutely amazing. her twitter is also hilarious!
Smitten Kitchen was the first blog I ever read and its wonderful. Gorgeous photography and everything she cooks looks amazing. She writes beautifully as well 🙂
Funniest male blog I read is The Boring Runner– he cracks me up every time!
I had no idea there were that many male bloggers!! So cool – I’ve got to check some of them out!! My favorite non healthy living blog is this amazing newborn photography blog… Seriously, the cutest thing ever!! http://stephaniecotta.com/
http://itsrusticliving.blogspot.com/
I didn’t even know there were that many male bloggers! I’ll have to check these out!
I love Tom and Lorenzo… they blog about celebrity fashion, and they’re absolutely hilarious! Definitely check these guys out: http://www.tomandlorenzo.com
I like Evan at Wannabe Chef!! http://thewannabechef.net/
My hubby blogs at http://www.losetheshoes.net which is a minimalistic shoe blog
Thanks for including me!
My favourite non healthy living blog is http://www.Cakewrecks.com – if I’m randomly giggling from my laptop, it’s safe to assume it’s because I’m looking at that day’s post. 🙂
Every day I found a new blog I love!! I really can’t keep up with them all! I do not think any of them are by men though. Not that I do not like them, I just haven’t seen any. I’ll be on the lookout now.
I have only seen a couple by men and its usually by a couple, so a man and woman.
I’d say 98% of the blogs I read are healthy living or recipe blogs. But I love Cupcakes and Cashmere! 😉
I am definitely going to have to try some pesto sauce! I think I have only tried it once with pasta! I have seen a lot of blogs and I haven’t ever come across a blog that is managed by a male! I will check out the blogs you have listed! 🙂
I love that you posted all these links, I forwarded them to my boyfriend! I love Southern In Law (www.southerninlaw.blogspot.com) because her love story melts my heart and I just want to read more and more and she has some delicious recipes.
and I love your blog Julie!!
I don’t have a suggestion for men’s blogs, however my lastest entries have something they might like! I’m on the third day of my 3 -Part how to for guys, using women’s guilty pleasures as guidelines for “How to Make Her Want You, Keep You, & Please You Forever.” Come check it out, my blog is very new and could use the boost!!
As for your blog, it’s awesome. YOU are awesome! My sister gushed about you so much I just had to see for myself, and I never looked back….and that was a year ago!!
Dreamingintherealworld.blogspot.com

Honestly, the blogs I read are all basically healthy living blogs. However, some of them I guess are more in the food blogger category – like Eat Live Run. That’s probably my favorite non-HLB. 🙂
Ben Greenfield fitness is amazing…he has a podcast too.
