Work today went really, really well. I had my first one-on-one time with two new members of our gym and I loved every minute of it.
As I drove to the gym this morning, I was a little nervous for my two meetings, but both new members were so kind, enthusiastic and ready to adopt a new fitness routine. I am excited to be part of their journey!
Workout
A benefit of working at a gym is the ability to sneak in a lunchtime workout without going anywhere!
I began my workout with an elliptical warm up before completing three rounds of a total-body circuit workout from Tina’s Best Body Boot Camp. Today’s BBBC workout was tough but awesome. I pushed myself harder than I have at the gym in a while and left feeling accomplished. And hungry!
Lunch
I ate the peanut butter sandwich that I packed and brought to work in between appointments, but I was still hungry when I arrived home. I was in the mood for something sweet and made myself a chocolate peanut butter cup smoothie.
I added a handful of fresh spinach and some frozen strawberries to amp up the nutritional profile of the smoothie and enjoyed every sip. (I promise you can’t taste the spinach!)
I also ate an apple as I was assembling all of the ingredients for my smoothie.
10 Year High School Reunion
Earlier today I received an invite to quite the event on Facebook.
My 10 year high school reunion! Has it really been 10 years!?
As for whether or not I’m planning to go, I’m not really sure. I think it would be fun if I made a weekend out of it with some of my girlfriends from high school since I’m still very close with them. However, we’ll be together in June and August for my friend Michaela’s bachelorette party and wedding, so I’m not sure traveling for the reunion in September will be feasible since quite a few of us would need to fly to Chicago.
We shall see!
Question of the Afternoon
- Did you attend your high school reunion/Would you want to attend your high school reunion?
Sara says
My 10 year is in August! I don’t think I’m going…I switched high schools sophomore year and ended up making my current best friends in college. Anyone from hs I was close with I still talk to occasionally so I don’t really see a purpose for me personally to go
Miranda @ Miranda Runs says
I’m just graduating this year from high school! Class of 2013 🙂 I think that it’s crazy to think about a 10 year reunion… SO MUCH will be different!
Cindy says
I went to my 10 year reunion and kind of regretted spending/wasting the time. There were too many people who seemed to only have gone to brag on their accomplishments. I got sick of the nauseating ‘I got this degree, that degree, blahdeeblah degree’ and ‘We live on a ranch out in blahdeeblah’ and ‘We just got back from vacation in blahdeeblah’. There were way too many show-offers and not nearly enough of the unpretentious people that I really wanted to see. On the plus side, though, I also went to my 20 year because there were a few friends I really wanted to see again. My husband also encouraged me to go. For our 20-year, everyone was super chill and we had a ton of fun! I was really happy that I went. It was funny that almost all of the braggers from the 10 year were there but most had gone bald and/or gotten a few (in some cases, too many) love handles. Teeheehee………Not sure about my 30 but it’s still a few years off.
Amanda says
I attended my 10-year reunion. It was ok. I probably wouldn’t have gone if I didn’t live within an hour of the event. Also, a friend flew in from Ohio so I felt like I had to go. If we had a 15-year reunion, it would be this year. I haven’t heard anything so I assume that isn’t happening. I don’t think I’d go though. Who knows!
CourtLeanne @princessandthejog says
I have always felt as though 10 years is too soon. I graduated about 5 years ago (wow, I didn’t realize it had been that long till I typed it). But I think a 15 or 20 year reunion would be more fun because you could really see what people are doing. At 10 years most people are still in the earlier years of their careers, assuming they went to college. A friend of mine is having this same debate with herself as her 10-year is coming up this year too. I would say, go if its feasible just for fun; but if you can’t reasonably do it, I wouldn’t worry too much over it.
Amber K says
I thought mine was really fun. I reconnected with people I hadn’t talked to in years since we weren’t really friends. It was nice to see acquaintances and talk with people I never really talked to in high school. Although mine also ended up being really small compared to how many people I graduated with. Still, I know I would have regretted not going. My husband’s was really awkward because none of his friends ended up going, but even he said he would have regretted not going.
Beth Sheridan says
I didn’t attend my high school reunion because I was extremely pregnant and knew I really wouldn’t be able to enjoy myself…I still see and/or talk to most of the people I graduated with, so I really didn’t feel like I missed much 🙂
Kendra says
I didn’t go to my 10 year reunion and another 5 years later, I don’t regret it at all. (And I really enjoyed high school overall.) I keep in touch with my close friends and Facebook satisfies my curiosity about mostly everyone else …
Nikki says
I plan on going to my 10 year reunion in August. It’s only 30 minutes from my house so I figure why not. Plus I’m going to enjoy seeing some friends who moved away that plan to be there.
Brooke says
Hi Nikki! I work on Steve Harvey the talk show and we’re looking for a good reunion story – if you know of anyone who might be interested, here’s a link to more info: http://steveharveytv.com/freaked-out-about-high-school-reunion/
Emily @ Perfection Isn't Happy says
I’m not sure that I’d go. My close friends have moved away and we’re no longer close, and I still keep up with everyone on Facebook anyway, so I don’t feel like I really need to see anyone in person. I’m actually not sure if my school still does reunions, because of Facebook!
Christine says
I did not go to my 10 year. I’m friends with those I wish to remain friends with from high school via Facebook. I may consider my 20 year though!
p.s. I bought some new running kicks tonight, Asics Gel Excel 33, they are the new light weights, I’m so excited to go for a run tomorrow!
Becky says
I don’t know if I will attend my high school reunion whenever it comes along. I feel like I can still keep up with everyone because of facebook, but I guess I will make that decision in about seven years. haha. 🙂
Josh says
This year is my 10 year high school anniversary. I was fortunate enough to be part of a class of high school students where none of the students were real go-getters. I don’t think that anyone even planned a reunion. That is a ll fine with me. I don’t think I would have gone anyway. I don’t really keep in touch with anyone that I went to high school though. It’s funny how much 10 years changes you.
Christine@ Apple of My Eye says
I’m only one year out of high school, so I can’t speak so much about the future, but I think I’d like to! I had a great high school experience and think it would be a lot of fun to go back and see everyone!
Jessica says
It’s been 14 years since I left high school and we had our 10 year high school anniversary down here in San Diego. Luckily I’ve stayed here since I left so it wasn’t quite a journey. I think you’re close with friends from high school then it may be worth the trip!
Maria @ Pappa Don't Preach says
I went to my high school reunion back in November. I was semi looking forward to it just to see some old friends that I haven’t seen and don’t see on Facebook 😉 Turns out, they’re the ones who did not show up! booo! I probably wouldn’t have gone if the location wasn’t down the street from my apartment.
Lisa says
I was class president at a smaller vocational high school. It’s funny how something you were so into 10 years ago hangs over your head 10 years later. I was expected to plan and do everything. I’m not very close with many of the friends I had in high school but I was very glad after it was over. Our school was smaller and there weren’t many cliques so it was a very good time getting to see and talk to everyone after having drifted apart. I do feel like reunions have lost alot of the actual ‘reunion’ part due to all social media, if you want to see how someone’s doing, you can usually look them up on Facebook. It was a great time though, but I think ill be passing the torch if anyone wants another one….
Jen @ Chocolate Chips & Tricep Dips says
I didn’t go to my high school reunion, but I saw some pictures from it. As it turns out, not too many other people went either!
Ang @ Nutty for Life says
I still have a ways to go for a high school reunion… it’ll be five years in 2015. I remember classmates saying they wanted a 5 year, but I feel like that’s kind of silly/too soon. I would probably go if they had it, though.
Kelly @ Femme Fitale says
Oh god. I actually had to PLAN my high school reunion last summer (yay, high school council obligations for life). It was probably the most annoying thing I’ve ever had to be in charge of. Trying to get a bunch of 28 year olds excited about the event was so much harder than anticipated. Many were pumped to get together and see everyone again, whereas some others avoided it like the plague. Definitely an eye opener that made me realize how many people really didn’t enjoy their high school experience, and once they walked across the stage they never wanted to look back.
Kelly @ Femme Fitale says
I ALSO think that HS reunions will soon be a thing of the past. With social media, Facebook in particular, everyone already knows what each other has been up to. This in turn makes the event somewhat unnecessary in the eyes of many, I think.
Kim says
I went to my reunion with little expectation of having a good time, it ended up being a blast. It was really a positive experience to see so many old friends doing so well in life. I think we need to celebrate everyones accomplishments and build each other up. Face to face interaction, I hope won’t be replaced by social media. You can’t hug or really experience someone’s smile or laughter through social. Just my two cents…. GO have fun, life is quick and high school helped mold us all.
Chris says
I’ve been invited to a 20 year school reunion and am very tempted to go, just to be nosey and find out what people I went ot school with are up to now – and more importantly how have they aged!!
Brooke says
Hi Chris – when is your reunion? I work on Steve Harvey and we’re looking for good reunion stories of people who want Steve’s advice before going – here’s a link in case you or any of your classmates are interested: http://steveharveytv.com/freaked-out-about-high-school-reunion/
Meredith says
I didn’t attend my reunion a few years ago, not many people did…Truth is, with facebook, we are all so connected that there isn’t much left to wonder about. It makes me laugh sometimes to know the exact whereabouts and every day activities/lives of all of my friends from high school. Modern technology is quite amazing.
Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie says
This year is my 5th highschool reunion. Do they do parties for that? I would probably go to see everyone but I currently dont live very far away. When its been ten years and I’m in omaha I think it will be worth it more. I keep in touch with my high school friends so I’m happy we get to see each other more often than reunions. I hope it stays that way!
Cori @ olivetorun says
I am suppose to organize our 10 year reunion and I have NO desire to go… hope thats cool.
Lissy says
I’m going to mine in November. Our class was pretty close. I was extremely unpopular in HS, but everyone was still nice to me and I greatly appreciate them for that. I’ friends with a lot of them on Facebook, but I’m still looking forward ton seeing them in person. We’re trying to get pregnant though so I probably won’t be able to drink 🙁 lol
Natalie @ Free Range Human says
I went to my ten year last year, and I’m so glad I did. However, I’m equally glad I don’t have to worry about for another ten
Sonja @ The {Happy} Travel Bug says
I have been to every class reunion we have had since graduation (5,10, 15 and 20) and have not regretted it at all. I actually did have to fly down for the last one and get a hotel room, but it was so worth it. High School was a blast for me, so it is so fun to spend time with my friends who I only see that one time a year.
Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona says
I didn’t know they had reunions for just 10 years. I’m not sure I’d go to a high school reunion. If I was interested in hanging out with any of my former classmates I would have kept in touch. It’s not that I didn’t like high school, just that I’ve changed so much since then.
Kristen @ notsodomesticated says
I attended my high school reunion and enjoyed it. But at the time, I was living driving distance away from my home town (I think it was a 5 or 6 hour drive). So it wasn’t a big deal. If I had had to fly, I might not have spent the money!
Joelle (on a pink typewriter) says
Mine is next year, but this September is my 5 year reunion from undergrad…s o crazy! Time FLIES. I’m so excited to fly back to CA for it though.. high school I’m not sure I’d actually get that jazzed about, honestly.
Anna @ Aspiring Anna says
I would go if I were you! It would be fun to see people after so many years, and see how they’ve changed. Since I was Senior Class President, I get to plan my reunions! Thankfully I still have a few years left until mine! 🙂
Beks says
I was invited to my five years high school reunion (Seriously. What is the POINT?!), and was considering my 10 year, but I don’t think I will, if we even have one (Class of 2004). I’m not that close to the friends I had in high school anymore (not for want of trying, either. Haven’t heard from my “best” friend in months. :-(), and all of my current best friends are from college.
jacki says
Just had our 30th last August and it was great to see everyone. I can’t say I’ve made everyone one of them, sometimes I had other plans, sometimes I just wasn’t feeling it. It was fun though, a class of 105 and about 1/2 showed with their spouses or without. Basically a 4 hour “cocktail hour” with snacks and sandwiches as needed. Pretty laid back like the group we were.
Letters from Lou says
My 10 year reunion is also this year. Part of me really wants to go, just because I have changed and grown so much since then. But the other part of me thinks it could just be a waste of time… Let us know what you decide!
Danica @ It's Progression says
This month marks 5 years since I graduated high school and I haven’t heard anything about a reunion yet. I really wasn’t a fan of high school, but I’m kind of hoping we all do get together because I’d love to see a few friends I rarely see plus just find out where people are at now and what they’re up to!
Amber @ Busy, Bold, Blessed says
Is it bad that I’d love to go and show off my fit body and hot boyfriend?!
Janine says
Honestly, I haven’t kept in contact with anyone from high school. Even though many of them are “Facebook friends” we really don’t keep in touch. I really have no desire to see any of the old friends again.
jena says
My 10yr is also this year (july) and I have no intention of going. I talk to very few people I graduated with, and there is no way i’m paying $110 ($55ea). My class was about 675 people, and only 150 people RSVP’d to go.. Doesn’t sound like a good time.
Amy says
I went to mine last year; I wasn’t really expecting much from it as I’m not close with anyone from high school anymore, and I do see some of them occasionally as our parents still live in the same area. I only had to travel for an hour, and I stayed with my parents so it didn’t require a huge effort on my part. It was a lot more fun than I expected. I really enjoyed talking with some of the people I was only casual friends with and I ended up reconnecting with one of my best friends from high school and am really happy we’re more than ‘facebook friends’ again. 🙂
AJ says
Honestly, I really had no interest in attending my 10 year reunion. But my situation is a little different, I had moved to that HS from out of town at the start of my sophomore year, so I wasn’t as close as most people with that group. My theory is, I see the people that I want to see, and everyone else isn’t of huge interest to me. It seems like my reunion was poorly attended, which is kinda sad. But with technology these days, its easy to keep up with people without talking to them. If you do decide to go, HAVE FUN!

I did attend my 10 years high school reunion. I don’t really see any of my high school friends anymore, there is no particular reason to that, so I was a little worry that I might get bored. However, I was happy that I went, I even had long conversation with some of my old classmates I was not even friends with in high school! I don’t know if I will go for the 15 years (which is next year!) or 20 years, but the 10 years was fun.
Tera says
Mine should be next year but our class president is pretty slack, I also went to college with him and he isn’t very active on Facebook so who knows if we will even have one. I was picked on quite a bit in junior high and high school, and am totally excited to go to my 10 year reunion. Many of the “cool kids” and hot girls are now overweight and still living in our same little town. As horrible and petty as it is to admit, I can’t wait to go back and show off a little 🙂

Julie-
I just had to comment when I saw the Viking head! 🙂 I have been following your blog this school year (getting some good ideas) and think that you do a fabulous job with your workouts, recipes, and blog posts. I am a teacher at Palatine and always assumed you graduated from there, but then just realized you went to Fremd. Too funny. My husband is an English teacher there…and I actually graduated from there too (although I am older). I am sure you will have fun if you go to your 10 year you seem to make the best of everything!! Good Luck!
sybil says
No I wont attend any reunions. I went to several schools and I dont keep in contact w/ anyone really. I joined the AF right after so I make and lose friends like … well things/crowds change often.
Alisha says
My class reunion was last year. I live in the town I went to high school so I decided to go. I honestly wouldn’t have been sad to have not gone. The people that I was friends with then and would’ve liked to see weren’t there. My boyfriend and I did sit with some great people that were a good friend of his growing up and her boyfriend as well as a girl who was a foreign exchange student in my class and her boyfriend. They were a lot of fun and that was the highlight of the whole weekend.
