Honey Dijon Cedar Plank Salmon

February 17, 2014 by Julie 756 Comments

Jump to Recipe·Print Recipe

On Sunday night Ryan and I did little experimenting in the kitchen with cedar planks! Cedar planks are great for perfectly-cooked fish that is so flavorful. This honey dijon cedar plank salmon recipe is a great one to try.

Cedar Plank Salmon

Whenever I see cedar plank salmon on the menu at a restaurant it always seems so fancy and also incredibly intimidating. Salmon is super easy to make and Ryan and I eat it every week, but I’ve never used a cedar plank when preparing the flavorful fish.

Thank you to The Salmon Council for encouraging me to give cedar plank salmon a try! The honey Dijon cedar plank salmon we made last night was fabulous. And so, so easy.

Honey Dijon Cedar Plank Salmon

February is American Heart Month, a time of heightened awareness and concern about heart disease, and when The Salmon Council reached out to me to request my help in spreading the word about heart health, I was more than game. Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States, claiming more than 811,000 lives per year. One woman dies from heart disease every minute.

Salmon and heart health go hand in hand since the American Heart Association recommends eating fish high in omega-3s, like salmon, two times a week. Salmon is packed with heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids, protein and vitamin D and can help lower cholesterol and decrease fatal cardiovascular incidents.

And it’s pretty darn delicious, too!

The Salmon Council sent me two Weber cedar planks to inspire me to experiment with baking salmon in a new way and the end result was fantastic!

We love salmon in our house, especially our 9 month old! We typically marinate a filet in balsamic vinegar and oil and throw it on the grill. I’d love to try it on a cedar plank.

I have to agree with you on the cedar plank as my favorite way to enjoy salmon. That flavor from the wood just can’t be beat! I like to put a brown sugar chili powder glaze on top of the salmon too.

I love cedar plank salmon – it’s always so tasty! But I’ve never tried to make it at home. At home I usually just do a simple marinade or some citrus and wrap it in a tin foil pouch and stick in the oven.

Your dinner sounds awesome, Julie! My favorite way to cook salmon is to marinate it in a mixture of honey, dijon, salt and pepper, onions and mushroom slices and then either bake or cook on the stove. I tend to pair it with broccoli (roasted or microwaved) and a brown rice.
