Hot ‘n’ Cold

January 22, 2014 by Julie 97 Comments

When the alarm went off this morning, I rolled over and told Ryan I was going to sleep in. Ryan continued to get ready for the gym and as I curled up into a ball under the sheets, I began to feel more and more awake.

I told myself to go back to sleep, but then I thought about how I’d feel once I returned home from the gym. Just the thought of that post-workout high got me out of bed.

Today’s workout began with a 20 minute incline walking warm up followed by a strength training session that focused on my legs.

Breakfast

Breakfast this morning started with a hot cup of coffee…

keurig coffee

And ended with a cold smoothie!

chocolate banana protein smoothie

In this smoothie:

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1/2 cup frozen raspberries
  • 1 spoonful almond butter
  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 handful fresh spinach
  • Enough almond milk to get everything moving

breakfast protein smoothie

Now I’m freezing and think it may be time for a hot mug of tea to warm be back up before work.

Question of the Morning

I’m planning to share my latest workout playlist with you guys soon, so I ask you…

  • What song are you loving on your workout playlist lately?

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I have been listening to a lot of Lady Gaga’s new album, ARTPOP. They are so up beat and energetic!
When I do yoga, I listen to Lorde’s CD start to finish. Such a beautiful voice, so much fun!

I have a question about your smoothies you make – do you think it’s possible to put too much banana in a smoothie? Based off carbs and sugars in the bananas? A lot of times my smoothies only have bananas and almond milk, but I put two whole frozen bananas in. Thoughts? I’d really appreciate any of your ideas!

Thank you! Have a happy Wednesday 🙂

Kudos to you for getting up despite being tired! I hope that workout gave you some awesome endorphins!
My favorite workout song right now would have to be “Move” by Little Mix. Not only is the beat pumpin’, but the lyrics seem somewhat appropriate for a workout!

I have been loving Timber! It’s my jam, especially when I’m in the car and break out in a dance, hahah. I always think of how great I’ll feel after which is usually enough to get me up and going. Or I think how I won’t have time later so it’s this or none, which usually guilts me into working out, ha.

The thought of post-workout is what gets me out of bed Monday through Friday haha. It’s such a great feeling! ….though, so is my bed so it can be a little difficult sometimes. And I agree that a hot cup of tea or coffee is needed after a cold smoothie!

I’m looking forward to seeing your playlist! My iPod needs a re-vamp. Last year I ran the Chicago Marathon, and created a playlist in the beginning of the season and listened to it throughout all my months of training. (I loved that the soundtrack during the race helped to simulate my training runs!) I’m hoping to get all new songs for this year’s season of running!
And props to you for getting up this morning…I ALSO rolled back over instead of going to the gym! 🙂 Sometimes you just need some extra shut-eye!

I normally don’t listen to techno type music but when I need to get pumped up for a workout or run its the only thing that does this trick! And if all else fails I add a little Backstreet Boys, Micharl Jackson and Britney Spears classics to my iPod 🙂

I used to always have those feelings when I was a swimmer in high school. Waking up a 4 am for practice was soooo difficult, but besides from being obligated to go, I would put on a positive attitude and just get up and go. I always felt so great afterwards despite being super tired when waking up!!!

I’ve been LOVING the Dirtyphonics Shambhala mix – seriously will get you pumped up for an intense workout!

Ok, yesterday you did an insane 50 rep workout of some tiring exercises (I got sore just reading 50 push presses). You also said that your favorite home brew comes from a $2000 coffee machine. Then today you convince yourself to get out of bed because you know how awesome you’d feel when you got home from a great workout. I can honestly say that you are my idol, lol.
