When the alarm went off this morning, I rolled over and told Ryan I was going to sleep in. Ryan continued to get ready for the gym and as I curled up into a ball under the sheets, I began to feel more and more awake.
I told myself to go back to sleep, but then I thought about how I’d feel once I returned home from the gym. Just the thought of that post-workout high got me out of bed.
Today’s workout began with a 20 minute incline walking warm up followed by a strength training session that focused on my legs.
Breakfast
Breakfast this morning started with a hot cup of coffee…
And ended with a cold smoothie!
In this smoothie:
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 cup frozen strawberries
- 1/2 cup frozen raspberries
- 1 spoonful almond butter
- 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
- 1 handful fresh spinach
- Enough almond milk to get everything moving
Now I’m freezing and think it may be time for a hot mug of tea to warm be back up before work.
Question of the Morning
I’m planning to share my latest workout playlist with you guys soon, so I ask you…
- What song are you loving on your workout playlist lately?
Shannon says
I have been listening to a lot of Lady Gaga’s new album, ARTPOP. They are so up beat and energetic!
When I do yoga, I listen to Lorde’s CD start to finish. Such a beautiful voice, so much fun!
I have a question about your smoothies you make – do you think it’s possible to put too much banana in a smoothie? Based off carbs and sugars in the bananas? A lot of times my smoothies only have bananas and almond milk, but I put two whole frozen bananas in. Thoughts? I’d really appreciate any of your ideas!
Thank you! Have a happy Wednesday 🙂
Alison @ Daily Moves and Grooves says
Kudos to you for getting up despite being tired! I hope that workout gave you some awesome endorphins!
My favorite workout song right now would have to be “Move” by Little Mix. Not only is the beat pumpin’, but the lyrics seem somewhat appropriate for a workout!
Amy says
Charlie XCX – SuperLove
Ra Ra Riot – Dance With Me
Check them out – you won’t be disappointed! Great beat. 🙂
Amy says
Opps, that’s Charli, no “e” 🙂
Heather @fitncookies says
I have been loving Timber! It’s my jam, especially when I’m in the car and break out in a dance, hahah. I always think of how great I’ll feel after which is usually enough to get me up and going. Or I think how I won’t have time later so it’s this or none, which usually guilts me into working out, ha.
Julie says
Timber is on my playlist, too! Love it!
Brittany says
I love Timber too, and I am usually not a huge fan of Ke$ha.
P.S. I love the new blog design!
Samantha @ Anatomy of My World says

Wake Me Up by Avicii – love this one so much it’s my alarm song to wake me up and get me motivated to work out! Also a big fan of Roar, I usually listen to that when I’m cooling down/stretching after to enhance that post-workout high 🙂
Erin @ The Almond Eater says
The thought of post-workout is what gets me out of bed Monday through Friday haha. It’s such a great feeling! ….though, so is my bed so it can be a little difficult sometimes. And I agree that a hot cup of tea or coffee is needed after a cold smoothie!
Elise @ 9toFit.com says
Is it weird that lately I have been running to that say Say Something, it’s so slow and sad but I love it for some reason

Amanda says
I’m looking forward to seeing your playlist! My iPod needs a re-vamp. Last year I ran the Chicago Marathon, and created a playlist in the beginning of the season and listened to it throughout all my months of training. (I loved that the soundtrack during the race helped to simulate my training runs!) I’m hoping to get all new songs for this year’s season of running!
And props to you for getting up this morning…I ALSO rolled back over instead of going to the gym! 🙂 Sometimes you just need some extra shut-eye!
Brooke@SweetnSweaty says
I get out of bed for the same reason! I just tell myself ” all you have to do is get there”
Song: Applause

“Hold on” by Colbie Caillat
“Talk Dirty” by Jason Derulo

Since becoming pregnant and moving to a new home, I haven’t kept up on running, but just yesterday “Rock Steady” by the Whispers came on my ipod and the impluse to get up from my desk and go for a run was almost overwhelming. That song always gets me going!
Natalia says
A good incline walk is my go-to when I *really* don’t want to workout but have to anyway. Of course, I never regret it once it’s done 🙂
Ashley @ Saving Money in your Twenties says
Can’t wait for your playlist! I’ve been getting back into country songs (I go through phases…) and right now my favorite is compass by lady antebellum!
Joy says
I’ve currently been loving ‘Wake Me Up’ by Avicii and ‘Stay the Night’ by Zedd and Hayley Williams. I normally don’t listen to techno type music but when I need to get pumped up for a workout or run its the only thing that does this trick! And if all else fails I add a little Backstreet Boys, Micharl Jackson and Britney Spears classics to my iPod 🙂
julie says

Aren’t dedicated hubbies the best?! I never would have made it to 6 a.m. yoga this morning if my hubs didn’t decide to get out of bed with or without me. Seeing him start his day made me ready to kick it into gear myself!
Natasha says
I used to always have those feelings when I was a swimmer in high school. Waking up a 4 am for practice was soooo difficult, but besides from being obligated to go, I would put on a positive attitude and just get up and go. I always felt so great afterwards despite being super tired when waking up!!!
I’ve been LOVING the Dirtyphonics Shambhala mix – seriously will get you pumped up for an intense workout!

Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat says
Despite the fact that it’s SO cold in my area right now (and we got a ton of snow last night), I still am really enjoying smoothies. They’re just so tasty and so easy to put together in the a.m.
Vivian says
Ok, yesterday you did an insane 50 rep workout of some tiring exercises (I got sore just reading 50 push presses). You also said that your favorite home brew comes from a $2000 coffee machine. Then today you convince yourself to get out of bed because you know how awesome you’d feel when you got home from a great workout. I can honestly say that you are my idol, lol.
Jill says
Ha, I had a similar experience this morning. Had a smoothie and was immediately glad that I hadn’t had my coffee yet so I had a way to warm up 🙂 They are so good, but hard to do this time of year when it’s so cold outside where I live.
Natalie @ Free Range Human says
I know it’s kind of an older song but I’m loving Hall of Fame will.i.am. It really motivates me!
Dana says
I’ve been loving “love me again” by John Newman and “timber” with Kesha and pitbull!

Whenever my husband gets up first and I say I’m going to sleep more, I never can! Him getting ready motivates me to get up to start the day.

Sarah Whitney says

“Maybe You’re Right” by Miley Cyrus works magic during the last few minutes (or the first few minutes) on the treadmill. It totally reminds me why I love working out.
Emily Lightsey says
That smoothie sounds delicious! I am hungry as we speak, so that looks appetizing!
A couple songs that I have not been able to get enough of lately while working out or running is “Counting Stars” by One Republic, and “Love Don’t Die” by The Fray! 🙂
