When the alarm went off this morning, I rolled over and told Ryan I was going to sleep in. Ryan continued to get ready for the gym and as I curled up into a ball under the sheets, I began to feel more and more awake.
I told myself to go back to sleep, but then I thought about how I’d feel once I returned home from the gym. Just the thought of that post-workout high got me out of bed.
Today’s workout began with a 20 minute incline walking warm up followed by a strength training session that focused on my legs.
Breakfast
Breakfast this morning started with a hot cup of coffee…
And ended with a cold smoothie!
In this smoothie:
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 cup frozen strawberries
- 1/2 cup frozen raspberries
- 1 spoonful almond butter
- 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
- 1 handful fresh spinach
- Enough almond milk to get everything moving
Now I’m freezing and think it may be time for a hot mug of tea to warm be back up before work.
Question of the Morning
I’m planning to share my latest workout playlist with you guys soon, so I ask you…
- What song are you loving on your workout playlist lately?
I’m so glad you asked this question – I browsed some of the responses and snagged some great reccs! I’v been lovin’ ‘Chocolate’ by The 1975, ‘Tattoo’ by Jason Derulo, and ‘Not Your Fault’ by AWOLNATION.
Katy Perry- Dark Horse!
I’ve been loving the Tone It Up Workout playlists on Spotify. Definitely check them out for some inspiration!
I have mornings like that often — this morning included 🙂
I almost rolled over and stayed in bed too, but felt so much better on the drive to work after the gym. It’s amazing how much sweating first thing impacts your day. I haven’t updated my playlist in awhile. Looking forward to seeing yours!
“Pompeii” by Bastille and “Closer” by Tegan and Sara get me run dancing every time they come up.
miranda lambert “fastest girl in town” at the end of my running playlist for when i start to feel like slacking off and slowing down.
I always do that in the mornings! Our alarm goes off between 5:15 and 5:25, the husband always jumps right up… I normally lay for another minute then get myself going. Some mornings it is SO hard, but even on times when I’ve skipped, it’s hard to go back to sleep so I can usually motivate myself to get up and go. It’s always worth it once the workout is done 🙂
Okay I got some good ones…I love the BPM channel on XM and get a lot of good song ideas from that station…
Hey Now-feat. Kyle, Martin Solveig, Cataracs remix
Orion – Shy Kidx
Pursuit of Happiness – Kid Cudi, Steve Aoki remix
Against the World – Michael S & Morgan Page
I love a mix of different type of music in my playlists! All are up beat though. Surprisingly, the ones I end up loving the most I hear the least on the radio, like “Strangers” and “Take Me Home.”
Here is my latest group of favorites: http://housewifeglamour.com/fitness/winter-2013-14-workout-playlist/
Also, good for you for getting to the gym! I did the same thing last night. So close to bailing, but felt like a million bucks after! 🙂
I don’t have ONE specific song I love working out to, but I’ve been obsessed with the workout playlists on Songza, which is one of the best apps ever!! There are dozens of different playlists and ZERO advertisements! Win win!! Hope you were able to warm back up- we’re having a snow day here in Boston! We got 17 inches of snow last night, BOO!
Happy by Pharrell Williams! I smile whenever it comes on, and I always want to pick up the pace a little bit. So so fun
I love “What Doesn’t Kill You Makes You Stronger” during that last interval in spin class. It’s fantastic to keep myself from giving up!
It has been sooo chilly out. And I crave smoothies when it is chilly. I really don’t understand it, but I’m craving one right this minute! Chocolate banana smoothies are my favorite.
Yum I’ve been on a smoothie kick lately!
Right now I’m loving “Work B***h” by Britney Spears, it’s such a silly song but it totally gets me pumped at the gym!
I’m loving the song “headband” by BoB lately, and “no no no” by Pumpin Blood. “Drop it Low” by Ester Dean is always on rotation too.
Good music totally makes a workout!
I’m loving “Can’t Stop Us” by Pentatonix. Can’t believe it’s a capella!
LOVE THIS SONG, too!!!
I have been loving Do What U Want by Lady Gaga and R. Kelly! It also makes me push a little harder.
I’ve been obsessed with Fall Down by Will.I.Am and Miley for about 3 months now haha
I’m loving these songs lately:
Beyonce – XO
The 1975 – The City
Bag Raiders – Sunlight
Arcade Fire – Here Comes the Night Time
Lorde – Ribs
Enjoy! 🙂
I’m loving Stockholm Syndrome by Muse, and anything by Ellie Goulding!
Check out rockmyrun.com Once you sign up you get one free download per month or free listening on their mobile app. It’s pretty sweet- premixed songs that flow one right into another and change often enough to keep you entertained.
Timber by Kesha & Pitbull 🙂
I think you need to switch your breakfast around – smoothie first, coffee to warm you up after. 😉
Ha! That would make more sense for sure. 🙂
Good for you for getting out of bed anyway — I find that once I wake up in the morning, even if I’m still tired, I don’t really get anymore actual restful sleep by staying in bed. So I might as well get up and do something productive! 🙂
“More” by Usher…I know it came out a few years ago, but it gets me moving!
I love playlists! I just ran my first half marathon and had a lot of fun putting songs together. My latest faves: Katy Perry- Dark Horses … Eet- Regina Spektor … Dirty Paws- Of Monsters and Men …. Welcome Home- Radical Face. A bit of a mix, eh?!
Ironically my crossfit coach sent us an inspirational video today called Rise and Shine. I think it will help give you the motivation to get out of bed next time 🙂

Good for you getting up! I am the worst at early morning workouts, I prefer the evenings (my bed is too comfy). PS looove the new blog design & layout!
I can’t get enough of Timber. it’s so ridiculous, but I love it!
I have been loving anything by Macklemore or Drake. Don’t ask me why!
Love Me Again – John Newman and Heads will Roll – Yeah Yeah Yeahs!!
“Its On”- Broncho
“Animals” by Martin Garrix is my jam. It’s great for cardio and strength training!
Here’s the music video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCYcHz2k5x0
I am OBSESSED with this song, too!!!
I have such a hard time getting up in the mornings. What time do you go to bed at nite?
