Ryan wanted to sleep in until 7 a.m. this morning, so we skipped our 6 a.m. workout in favor of an extra hour of sleep. We were up at 7 a.m. for breakfast and I worked until around 9:15 a.m. before deciding to go for a run.
I figured a run at 9:15 a.m. was still early enough in the morning to beat the Florida heat.
Wrong.
Oh I was so, so wrong.
By 9:15 a.m. it was already in the mid-80s and the humidity was kickin’.
I headed out for what I thought would be a 5-mile run and quickly realized that wasn’t going to happen. I adjusted my running goals to cover three miles and only finished that by telling myself to slow down and take it easy.
Running outside when the temperature is close to 90 degrees is definitely not the smartest thing I’ve ever done, but I just wasn’t in the mood to plug away on the cardio equipment in the hotel gym. I wanted to be out and about, but I now know that if I want to take my workout outside, I must do it well before 9 a.m.
Check out this super-sweaty post-run ponytail.
Okay, fine, so that ponytail is probably about 50 percent sweat and 50 percent straight grease.
Don’t worry, I washed my hair after snapping that picture, I promise.
Speaking of greasy hair, as I’ve grown older, I’ve found myself becoming more and more lax about washing my hair. I shower every day (okay, so I typically skip a shower all together on my rest days), but I don’t wash my hair daily.
In fact, I usually only wash my hair on days when I do super-sweaty cardio or circuit training. This averages out to about three hair-washes a week, or every-other day washes. Sometimes less.
In high school I would often wash my hair twice a day. I was a diver, so I’d wash it after diving practice after school and then I’d wake up early in the morning before school to shower and wash my hair again. Talk about overkill.
What about you guys? How often do you wash your hair?
Please don’t make me feel like Pig-Pen and tell me you all wash your hair a million times a week.
Lunch
Lunch today had to be enjoyed in a flash because I worked up until the time I had to leave for an important appointment scheduled for 2 p.m., located about 40 minutes away.
Another Amy’s pocket sandwich!
This time I enjoyed a spinach feta pocket sandwich that was decent, though I could’ve used about five times the amount of feta in my pocket.
I ate my lunch while scrambling to run a brush through my hair and throw some mascara on my eyelashes. My poor little lashes are finding themselves naked more and more now that I work from home.
I’m actually blogging from the location of my afternoon meeting at the moment, but will recap that later this evening.
For now, I’ll give you guys a hint…
Golf carts are everywhere!
Florida folks may have an idea where I am, but those of you with some older relatives may also have a clue.
See ya after dinner!
Question of the Afternoon
- How often do you wash your hair?
Khushboo says
haha awesome- my hair is SUPER greasy while i type this! I wash it twice a week (3 times if it’s lucky) and boy oh boy am i going to scrub it tomorrow!
Anne says
I definitely wash my hair every day, but I let it slide on a Saturday and sometimes into Sunday if I’m at home all weekend. As a teen I washed my hair twice a day, but I have definitely cut back! If I even sleep on my hair it feels dirty! I also have fine hair but I love Jason Naturals Biotin shampoo and also DHC Mild Shampoo. I will TRY to be more greasy because I know it’s good for me, but it’s hard to let go of habits! 🙂

Oh my gosh, I was just thinking of this the other day – as I have gotten older, started working from home, and have had 2 little boys, I wash my hair less and less. Sometimes only once or twice a week (!) but it usually ends up being every 3 days since I’m running in the summer heat/humidity now and the ponytail can stand on its own after a few good workouts 🙂 My sister just introduced me to dry shampoo, though…reminds me of baby powder really, but it does cut the grease in a pinch!!

I dont like washing my hair, though I must say I am lucky with these, they dont really need more than brushing after wash. Or maybe I am just used to this sloppy look 😀

this makes me so happy. my friends tease me and give me so much crap for not washing my hair every day (and for not showering on off-days..oops…) so i’m SO glad to know i’m not alone!!

I love grossing people out with this fact. I can easily go 4 or 5 days without washing my hair. Although it’s been so hot outside my hair is completely soaked with sweat after I run so I’ve been washing it more than I would like.
Amy @ SGTC says
It is way to time consuming to wash my hair every day. I follow the same every other day principle, unless I get a super sweaty workout!
My Blonde Moments says
I have to wash mine every. single. day. 🙁 I wish I could skip washes, but my hair is so fine that if I go w/o washing it looks like a straight-up mess!!
Lindsay says
Don’t feel bad….I hate washing my hair and only do it like you….sometimes it ends up only being twice a week. Gross, maybe? Awesome, yes! (p.s. I know you love Ulta, they have a great dry shampoo and its cheap, I use it everyday!)
Marissa says
This probably sounds horrible but I only wash my hair once a week on Saturdays so it looks great for the weekend. I am not working out at this time. I have extremely long hair and it takes forever to wash and comb out & dry. I use baby powder towards the end of the week and it looks great. I have tried several types of expensive & cheap dry shampoos but I think the baby powder works the best. I do shower every morning or I would feel gross. I use a shower cap when I shower.

Another curly here, I used to wash my hair EVERY day. It was so damaged, read: dry & fried, that I had to chop it all off about 4 years ago. The stylist showed me how to style with less product and go 3+ days without washing. Now my hair is down my back and relatively healthy. I have no color in my hair and use dry shampoo after moderately sweaty workouts, after super sweaty ones I have to shower or else my scalp gets ITCHY once the sweat dries. Exciting stuff.

I love that you posted this topic! I used to wash my hair twice a day in high school, but ever since I heard it strips your hair of its natural oils, I stopped. In between washings, I use a hair powder (it’s manufactured by Cake and they sell it at Sephora) to sop up any oil. Well, I guess I didn’t blend it into good today because my friend asked why my hair looked orange in the sun! LOL

I wash my hair almost everyday. I just don’t feel completely clean if i don’t.
Alisa @ Running with Knives says
I inherited my dad’s oily, oily skin and if I don’t scrub up every day, it’s a disaster. In fact, I shower in the morning and by night time my hair is disgusting and stringy. The worst part is my dad is about 60 now and still has problems with his oily skin. Yay for adult acne!

I have thick curly hair and sweat profusely when I workout (4-5 days a week). I “wash” my hair most days by rinsing it thoroughly and conditioning it – this usually takes care of the sweatiness. I do wash with shampoo 2-3 times per week depending on the training cycle I am in. If I wash with shampoo (even moisturizing shampoo meant for curly hair) more often then that I get flaky dry scalp and yucky looking frizzy curls. Its really not that gross if you think about it — we developed all these detergent based products that end up stripping natural oils. I think most women wash their hair too much and end up greasifying it accidentally.
Danielle says
My hair needs to be washed everyday. I have an oily scalp. 24 hours after washing it starts looking like it hasn’t been washed in a week. However, I actually wash it every other day.

Yes. If you play the original game, you’ll get better equipment the longer you play within the limit of your level. In vanilla Daggerfall, if you play long enough you will find Dwarven equipment even at level 1. As for the combat implications, the effect is minor and essentially gives you some small feeling of continuous progress.
