Hello from Starbucks!
I am blogging from Starbucks this morning because I have to head back to the gym to work right after I press publish on this blog post and didn’t want to drive 15 minutes home only to turn around right after blogging + breakfast and drive 15 minutes back. Ryan and I drove separately to the gym this morning and while I stretched after my workout, he showered so he could drive immediately to work after our quick breakfast date at Starbucks.
We both love their egg white and spinach wraps and each ordered one to enjoy with our lattes (vanilla for me, chai for Ryan).
I adore the coffee shop environment first thing in the morning. It seems to have a sleepy buzz (oxymoron?) that makes me smile.
Workout
Before breakfast, I completed a workout that focused on my biceps and shoulders and incorporated drop sets. I tried to keep my heart rate up by including little bursts of cardio in the form of bosu burpees or one minute “sprints” on the elliptical. In and out in under an hour!
If You Were To Start (Another) Blog…
I have a rather random question for you guys today.
If you were going to start a blog, what would you want to blog about? Or, if you are a blogger already and had to change the overall focus of your blog or start another blog, what would you want to blog about?
I know this is kind of random, but I often think about other blogs I’d love to launch because I have a bunch of different interests. I feel fortunate that this blog follows my life and allows me to talk about many different things, but I think, in general, it seems to fall in the fitness or food niche. Of course I love chatting with you guys about workouts and recipes, but my life really isn’t all fitness and food and they’re just two of my many interests.
If I were going to start a blog with a new focus, I’d love to start a travel blog.
(Me and Ryan after conquering the Koko Head Crater Hike in Oahu. Unbelievably awesome!)
The way I feel when I travel is unlike anything else. I am a naturally curious person and traveling allows me to explore, ask questions and immerse myself in new surroundings. I think it would be so fun to share hotel and restaurant reviews but the highlight for me would be writing about adventures in various places. Recapping vacations or experiences in new locations are some of my favorite blog posts to write for PBF! (Highlight of my life? Scuba diving in the Galapagos Islands and visiting Machu Picchu last year.)
I’m sure writing a travel blog would be rather difficult though since updating it with new content would depend a lot on your personal travels.
I also have a few other random ideas for blogs/websites I’d love to launch and would love to set up a Daily Puppy-type website that features pictures of adorable adoptable dogs. (I actually already bought the domain AdoptablePuppy.com.) Maybe one day!
Question of the Morning
- If you were going to start a blog (or launch a new blog on a different topic) what would you want to blog about?
Erin @ The Almond Eater says
Ahh how interesting. You MUST start adoptablepuppy.com..I mean seriously, how cute would that be? I’m dying to get a pup…hopefully soon! If I were to start another blog hmmm well I’m still pretty new so I’m going to stick to this one ha but one thing I do want to do is incorporate fashion into it more frequently!
Julie says
I really hope to one day!! 🙂 I think it would be a great way to showcase sweet puppies that need a loving home.
Katherine says
I think mine would be about nagivating life as twenty something year old. I feeling during this time of life there are so many changes and you are not yet at adulthood (at least for me). We could all use something to relate too.
Jamie @ Dishing Out Health says
Love this idea. Very relatable.
kim says
you say you are a certified personal trainer then why did you do a full body workout yesterday and then today did you work on biceps and shoulders
Julie says
Yesterday’s workout used light weights and only included one minute of bicep curls and a few minutes of shoulder work. I typically leave at least a day of rest in between strength training the same muscle groups and don’t consider yesterday’s 25 minute boot camp class a serious strength workout.
kim says
you still used those muscle groups
be careful writing on your blog how to exercise and having a following who look up to you
and yes I am certified personal trainer with 20 plus years experience
‘just looking out for others who copy what you do
Kelsie says
wow, back off her! she has a disclaimer at the bottom of the blog that maybe YOU should check out…”Though I am a certified personal trainer, the workouts I post may not be right for you.” She can do whatever workouts she wants, and it’s everyone’s personal choice to copy or hers or not. God forbid you use the same muscle groups 2 days in a row…big deal.
kim says
miss genius
yes you can do what ever you want to do but when you are dealing with the public and giving information out you better know right from wrong
you my dear maybe need a refresher course for yourself or mind or own business
Kelsie says
Mind my own business? But your comment is out for the public to see…so maybe you should learn what’s right from wrong and have some class.
kim says
you are one very bitter human being
first of all you were the one to comment back to me
this is not your blog so yes mind your own business
little girl you have a lot to learn in the big world
all I was doing was making a comment to help others not to do the same
that’s it you my dear need to mind your own business and stick to your own little blog
good luck to you
Heather @fitncookies says
I think I would make a crafting blog. I share some things on my blog when I do craft, but I’d love to get to crafting more and share DIY with my readers.
Julie says
I think a DIY blog would be a lot of fun, too!! I just don’t have nearly enough ideas!
Chelsea @ A Fit LittleOne says
Love the adoptable puppy idea!!!
Well my blog now is about fitness/health/my life/recipes & workouts.
If I was to start another one, I think I would have to start a fashion one. I love clothing, and mixing and matching outfits. I think it would be too fun not to do it 🙂
Starr says
I wouldn’t mind seeing more travel stuff here, personally! I’m sure you’d have a great blog, no matter what your other topics would be. 🙂
Libby Harmon says
I would love to blog about local businesses and upcoming local events! I wish there was a comprehensive blog for my city because I feel like there’s always something fun going on and I often miss out because I don’t know where to find the info!
-Libby
Julie says
Do it!!!! Local blogs are such great resources!
Claire @ Keeping Up With Claire says
You really got me thinking with this one! As a joke, I would love to start a #firstworldgirlproblems blog, where I talk about all of the “hardships” and daily struggles and mock the silliness in life. I love those Twitter accounts and think that it would be pretty fun to write. I would also love to start a blog for young professionals on life. It would range from mastering basic skills, to random (easy) recipes to professional tips. I think that a lot of recent college grads have forgotten that after college, you become an adult, and shouldn’t be relying on your parents to support you through life anymore. Maybe a blog teaching people how to get through tough times for the first time (the horror of dealing with a cable company!) would be helpful! 🙂
Miranda @ Lovely Wife Lovely Life says
I’d start either a DIY or travel blog. I love crafting and I love traveling! I just don’t do enough of either one to qualify starting a whole blog for it, ha!
Jackie says
I would love a puppy blog too!
Alexa @ travelmiamor says
traveling is my passion and the topic of my blog 🙂 http://travelmiamor.blogspot.com/
***Travel with an open mind and an open heart. The rest will all fall into place. ***
Julie says
Thanks for sharing! I will definitely check it out!
Alissa @ Eat Clean Beauty Queen says
OMG wouldn’t it be fun to write a travel blog for the Travel Channel or something like that so you literally get paid to explore?! I would LOVE that.
I’d also love to start a blog about behind the scenes things that happen working in TV news. You encounter SO many interesting (read: crazy) people and situations that the viewers never get to see.
Lyric says
Definitely a beauty blog! I love all things makeup and could use the excuse to buy even more 😉 but for now balancing one blog is good for me!
chelsey @ clean eating chelsey says
I’d love my blog to evolve into more of a lifestyle/family blog, seeing as that is where all my time and energy goes to lately! I feel like I don’t update nearly as often because I don’t have too much to say other than talking about my babies. And let’s face it, some people don’t want to read about babies. 😉
Jerica says
I am right there with you Julie in that I would LOVE to start a travel blog, but that would mean travelling often enough to update it regularly! Maybe one day I will be able to make that a reality. For now I am just starting out blogging and it is a lot to get a post up once a week!
Ali says
You should really start adoptablepuppy.com! That’s a awesome domain. I’m with you – I would love to start a travel blog or some medical blog (I know I’m weird!)
Abi@AbsofSteel says
If I had the time, equipment and a better camera I would love to start a baking blog. I love having a healthy eating and fitness blog but I think it would be so much fun to experiment with some fancier baking. Baking is one of my favorite hobbies.
Mia @ MakeMeUpMia says
My blog is beauty and lifestyle, if I were to start another it would be fitness and food or travel!
Ashley v says
I’d love to do a travel blog, but I need a little more traveling under my belt before that kind of thing could happen! I did that Koko head hike a couple of years ago and felt like getting to the top was a huge success! It’s a tough one! It blew my mind because there were people running it. Seems like a ticket to an ankle injury, but they seemed to handle it!
Lauren @ Short And Healthy says
So weird! I’ve been thinking about this topic for the past week! My blog also falls into the food/fitness niche and I would love to have a blog where I could focus on photography (which is another interest of mine) or talk about random things such as coffee/explorations/dreams etc.
Jill says
This is a fun question! I used to write a fashion blog and still have a passion for style. I would also love to write about decorating/renovating, seeing as how we are in the process of renovating a new house right now. I also always have the itch to write a blog just focusing on women and the issue we deal with today.
Annie @ Annie Get Your Run says
I’d also love to start a travel blog/foodie blog. Think a female version of Anthony Bourdain! I’ve also toyed with the idea of doing a dating blog…being in my late 20s and being single definitely yields some interesting results as far as my love life goes!
Jessica says
Funny you should ask, because I just started a blog! It primarily tracks my progress as I go about tackling my “26 by 26” list. However I plan on adding bits of my life as I get used to blogging.
I too would love to have a travel blog, if only there were infinite amounts of money to travel with!
Great post Julie 🙂
Julie says
Yay for blogging!! Hope you love it!
Shel@PeachyPalate says
Or you could do a craft blog!! It’d be awesome! I’d do solely breakfast foods!
Julie says
A breakfast blog would be awesome!!
Celina @ My Cajun Trinity says
Well, since I just started blogging less than two months ago, I’m not sure how I fit into this question. I made sure to name my blog something that would cover all sorts of topics, but currently the blog focuses on healthy living, DIYing and our Cajun way of living.
Last night, my boyfriend and I discussed possibly beginning to flip houses after marriage. So, maybe one day I could start a blog about those adventures!
Rebecca Jo says
I actually just did start another blog, after blogging for 7 years at my home place 🙂 But I decided to separate my training & running & thoughts on nutrition from my ‘life’ blog… seems to be OK & not too overwhelming.
Marieve says
Julie, You could still talk about your trips on your blog. We would love to hear all about it, Machu Picchu and Koko Head Crater Hike, quite relevant to fitness dont you think? And restaurant reviews, why not?! I couldn’t start a blog, just by reading some of those insignifiant comments above, it would kill be!! You are one of the best blogger, keep it up!
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
I would start a music blog. My blog is very fitness/healthy-lifestyle focused but I’m such a music nerd (it IS my career after all!), that I do still include Music Monday posts but I would love to start a music blog where I do reviews (good & bad) of recorded albums, live shows, etc.
Jess @dearhealthyness says
I’m still new to the blog world, and I have a passion for health and fitness. However if I’d ever start another blog, it will be about travel, or some controversial topics like GMO, organic foods, corporate power (ok those are related to health too, but are very different from what I actually write right now). I know is weird, but they are topics I’m interested in researching, and writing about 😀
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
I would totally do a mommy blog that includes fashion, crafts, parenting, etc.! I throw in a LITTLE of this on my current (healthy living) blog, but not to the extent that I would if I wrote a mommy blog.
Kaelene @Unlocking Kiki says
I have always wanted to start my own blog and when I moved to Iceland 4 months ago I finally took the plunge and started my blog unlockingkiki.com! I love sharing my travels with others and reading about everyone else travels to, I think traveling blogging is a wonderful place to be and it has been a great way to keep in touch with those back home.
Alexis says
Actually starting a health/fitness blog at the moment (pretty much solely for my mom, who will be the only reader :)), but I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to be paid to write about travel, or wine tasting. Guess that’s the CA girl in me ;).
karen@fabinyour40s.com says
I have my own blog currently but am going to add a DIY Au Natural page. Body butters, lip balms, body scrubs, how to use herbs in your own kitchen for various ailments, essential oils….. I love alternative, natural ways to help the body.
Jessica says
Right now I just blog every now and then about my new life in the city, but I want to get serious and transform it into a lifestyle blog – baking, crafting, fashion…just anything that inspires me!
Jamie @ Dishing Out Health says
I’m still new to the blogosphere trying to build up my nutrition and food blog. If I were to start again from scratch, I would love to write restaurant reviews. I’ve always enjoyed reading them and I tend to be quite the food critic 😉 haha I would love to read more about your amazing travels!
Sara @ LovingOnTheRun says
That’s a hard one. I feel like my blog now pretty much covers all the big parts of my life – my workouts and my marriage. Some people give me a hard time for talking os much about my marriage – but my thing with it is marriage is HARD work. It’s not always rainbows and butterflies and I like sharing the good and bad and how we work through it. Of course, running as well because I love it too much not to talk about it!
I think if I started another one it would be on budgeting. We are really struggling with money right now so I have been working hard to budget like no other!
Alison @ Daily Moves and Grooves says
That’s a great question! If I were to start another blog, I think it would be about being a Christian teenager in such a secular world. I kinda blog about that sometimes, but focusing on that would be cool!
Elizabeth @ Positive Change says
Great question! I would so start a blog about traveling as well. I love to travel and traveling around the world and sharing my experiences would be so awesome!
Cari says
I started a blog to keep in touch with family while living in England for a year. We did lots of traveling, so post came fairly easily, just to show the family what was going on in our lives. Now that we’re back in the states, I’m not sure what to write about so it has just sat, out dated and collecting dust. I tried to restart as a new years resolution, but just am not sure what to write about.
Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut says
I love that you already bought the puppy domain! That’s a great idea!
I know that having a blog you are supposed to have a focus…but sometimes I do want to post about other things! I mean I stil do, but my primary audience is health and fitness focused so I don’t always get a lot of feedback on the other subjects..like politics or faith or fashion (ha I don’t think I could ever start a fashion blog…too many selfies!!).
A travel blog would be so fun! I’m sure you’d have plenty of opportunities to review hotels, restaurants, or even resorts! But then you might feel obligated to travel…life is hard. 😉
april says
i’m not a blogger (yet), but i would love to start a travel blog someday… of course, i would have to travel a lot more so that my blog would have some great content!
and i LOVE the idea of adoptablepuppy.com. i adopted both of my dogs, so it would be nice to see puppies going to loving homes 🙂
Caroline says
I’ve always toyed with the idea of starting a baking blog but I think if I started one today it would be more of a life/food/fitness mashup. I love blogs where I get a glimpse into someone else’s life and I’d also like to have a place to share recipes that I love!
Christine@ Apple of My Eye says
Ohh I LOVE today’s blog topic! I think I would love to start a travel blog (would need to start traveling more hahah!) or one that concentrates on crafts. I’m lucky that Apple of My Eye can include fitness, food, and random life musings so it hits a lot of my interests!
Megan @ The Skinny-Life says
If I had to blog about something else, it would be about coffee. 🙂 Something I miss about college, is hanging out at coffee shop & studying. I wish I had time for that now. I love their spinach wraps too by the way!
cait @pieceofcait says
interesting! I love your blog and everything you share.. and I would totally follow your travel blog too! <3
Janessa says
There are so many options to choose from ! I’ll limit myself to just two 😀
1. Life as a middle school teacher. Middle school aged kids are the strangest, most frustrating, and most lovable kids to teach (in my opinion of course). They make you shake your head, get angry, and laugh all at the same time.
2. Life as a step-mother. I am a step mother of three beautiful children who has a very special relationship with their real mother. One moment it’s good, the other reminds me of working with middle school kids. Anything to let other step-mothers out there know they aren’t alone in dealing with other parents and to commiserate and laugh with others at the same time.
Julie says
I think my friends who are teachers have the best stories!! I’d read that blog for sure!
Kimberly Ann says
Right now my blog is a fashion & beauty blog, but I’d love to start a fitness one too.. Or just incorporate it! 🙂 a travel blog would be amazing!

If I didn’t have this blog, I’d probably write about wines (self-proclaimed Trader Joe’s wine connoisseur over here), or I’d write about life as a college admission officer. There are so many funny stories I could tell!
Courtney Ann says
I just started my own blog last Friday (Butternbliss.com)! You were a HUGE inspiration for starting it and I’m focusing on similar aspects such as health and fitness. I’m by no means a fitness goddess and I don’t proclaim to be, so I focus on encouragement and attaining a happy lifestyle, even if fitness isn’t your thing. I would love to start a nonprofit for abandoned animals and blog about it since my two furry children came from that background.

Can’t wait to check out your blog!! 🙂
Nora (Buttercream Fanatic) says
I used to have a lifestyle blog that started to tend toward being focused entirely on my home renovations and decorating. I’d start another blog focused on home decorating/renos if I had the time!
