This morning I elected to sleep in in favor of a later workout. Though most days I prefer to work out first thing in the morning, I was tossing and turning all night and felt like my body needed the extra rest. I was still up at 6:30 a.m., but that sure beats 5 a.m.!
I ended up taking a boot camp class that took class participants through five four-minute circuits. The circuits weren’t very challenging and the rest time between circuits was a little too long for my liking, but it still felt good to sweat. Once we were done with the circuits, the instructor picked up the pace of the class for the final eight minutes:
- 1 min. sprints across the gym
- 1 min. shuffle
- 1 min. front hops
- 1 min. carioca
- Repeat 1x
Sweaty!
Lunch
Lunch this afternoon centered around leftover brown rice.
I made an Italian sausage rice bowl that included:
- Brown rice
- Italian chicken sausage
- Chopped peppers
- Scallions
- Parmesan cheese
- Oregano
- Basil
As I was typing up this blog post, the UPS guy delivered something fun!
I ordered this month’s book club book from Amazon.com because I am number 18 on my library’s wait list and was anxious to get reading. I thought Sarah Jio’s first book, The Violets of March, was awesome, so I can’t wait to start reading this novel before bed tonight.
Enjoy the rest of your day!
Chelsea Brant @ CrazyBullies says
I’ve started reading the book for this months book club and it’s awesome so far! It hooked me right away which is the best thing about a book to me! Can’t wait to keep reading and see what happens!! have a good day Julie!
Annette@FitnessPerks says
I just picked my copy up from the library on Monday. I hope to start it this weekend!
p.s. I am totally using one of your V-day gift ideas for my husband–thanks for making it easy to celebrate love (esp for those who can not craft. hah) 😉

awesome!! so glad to hear it. i hope he loves it!
Natalie @ Free Range Human says
I’m using one as well. Definitely a life saver for someone who has no talent at being crafty 😉
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
Ah thanks for the reminder, I need to get the book!

I’m about 1/4 way through that book right now, it’s really good so far! It definitely caught my attention early on, so hopefully it keeps up!
That boot camp class sounds like fun!
Except I totally feel you with long rest breaks, not a fan of them in classes!
Cassie @RedLetterDaye says
You’re so lucky to be bale to do midday workouts and have a flexible schedule. I really prefer to workout in the morning, but sometimes it has to be done at night, after 8pm, when the post work rush dies down. Not so fun. I can’t imagine 5am though!
I really hate when workout classes aren’t challenging enough, but I prefer to work out alone anyway.
Jackie @ Nacho Average Runner says
I feel your pain when group classes aren’t very challenging. I have gotten to the point where I make a point to go to the gym AFTER a class so I can challenge myself, especially with spinning classes!

Blackberry Winter is soooo good! I bought it on my nook when I first saw your post and finished it last night! Enjoy!

Sounds like your day is going WAY better than mine. I took Louie (the Shih Tzu) out this morning and locked us out of the house! No leash, no purse, no phone, no nothing! With a Doctors appointment in 15 minutes! Thank goodness for an amazing neighbor, who took my dog in her house, drove me to the doctor, came back to get me and waited with me (missing lunch with friends) until the locksmith arrived. $195 later, I am in my house again. Just had to share that crazy morning! Lesson is…make friends with your neighbors! or hide a key somewhere. 😉

Omg Blackberry Winter is so good! It reminds me a lot of Violets of March and I cannot put it down! I think it’s the best book club choice we’ve had in a while 🙂 It also sort of reminds me of the Secret Keeper which might just be because we just finished reading it. Can’t wait to see what you think!
Tina @ Best Body Fitness says
So want to read both of her books after always hearing such rave reviews, especially from you. I’m reading a book called Delirium now. Did you read that one? It’s a dystopian novel which always makes me think of you.

Have you ever considered purchasing an eReader? I always thought I’d miss the feeling of holding a book in my hands but I purchased a Barnes and Noble Nook and I really love it.

Yum!! I would almost always rather have a bowl of yummy stuff mixed up than a plate with separate piles haha! I like putting rice mixtures over spinach or mixing lots a veggies with pasta 🙂 hope you’re havin a good day!!

You are going to LOVE Blackberry Winter! I finished it in less than 24 hours, so my recommendation would be: don’t start it unless you have nothing important to do…. Enjoy!

I need to read her first book soon. Right now my neighborhood’s book club is reading, A Wrinkle in Time. I’m loving it and surprised it’s taking me this long to pick it up!

Emily says
I got Blackberry Winter on my Nook last week and it has been a page turner right from the start! This is the first time I am participating in your book club and I am so excited about the book choice!
Faith says
That book is strange. I got it as an audio book to start listening to while I run and got through about an hour before calling it quits. It sounded so awesome and was just flat. Maybe it was the narrator making it hard to follow along with? Or maybe it’s just me not being used to listening to books instead of reading them?
Claire says
I just sat here for five minutes thinking WTF is carioca, watched the video, and realized since my days of high school basketball I’ve ALWAYS though it was karaoke. My mind has officially exploded.
Brittany @ Kitchen::Candid says
Oooh I can’t wait to start that! She is such a great writer!
