It’s a Tie

June 14, 2011 by Julie 86 Comments

When Ryan arrived home from work this evening, we leashed up Sadie for a 20-minute walk around our neighborhood. The temperatures in Central Florida feel like an oven at the moment and the air is thick and humid. Needless to say, when we arrived home from our walk, making a hot dinner did not sound appealing.

A smoothie, on the other hand, sounded fantastic!

In the mix (for one smoothie):

  • 1 c. milk
  • 1 1/2 frozen banana
  • 2 tbsp. peanut butter
  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder

About 30 minutes after we were done drinking our respective smoothies, we felt a little cooler and downed a plate of Alexia sweet potato fries with ketchup.

It’s hard to believe these babies come out of a bag in the freezer. They honestly taste like restaurant-style fries!

Our fries were consumed over an intense game of Scrabble.

Believe it or not, we got through all the letters and tied. We both had relatively low scoring games, but at least we were on the same page!

Playing Scrabble this evening reminded me just how much I love game nights. When Ryan and I eventually have a family, I hope we have kids who enjoy playing Scattergories, Taboo, Cranium, Uno… you know basically every game ever made. (Except Monopoly. Hate that one.)

Questions of the Evening

  • What was your favorite game when you were a kid?
  • What is your favorite game now?

When I was little, my favorite game was Candy Land. It was my goal in life to be Queen Frostine. As an adult, I love Taboo and Scattergories!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I LOVED Candy Land! I had a friend named Justine and thought she was so lucky (because Justine sounded like Frostine. I was six; cut me some slack).

Now, I’d have to say Apples to Apples is my favorite game. Hilarity ensues when my friends and I play!

So fun! I’ve always loved Scrabble. With big groups, I love Taboo and Catchphrase- hilarious. My husband and I recently discovered Bananagrams and now we bring it everywhere with us. We killed time in the airports recently while we were on vacation by playing a couple of rounds. It was probably the most fun I’ve ever had in an airport 🙂

I’ve been living off smooties too! And it’s nowhere near as hot in Boston as FL. My favorite games are Apples to Apples and Taboo. I can’t stand Monopoly (or LIFE) either!

I love playing Scrabble! But I feel like playing “Words with Friends” will eventually ruin my Scrabble game because I am constantly just plugging in letters and hoping they fit, (is that cheating?) and being told by the phone if it works or doesn’t.

My all time favorite game growing up was Clue! I used to play Clue and also make up “real-life” scenarios that I wanted to solve. Life was also a good one! 🙂

I love that you guys had a game night! What a good idea. Honestly, I just kind of forgot about board games…but I used to LOVE playing them when I was a kid…and teenager 🙂
I used to sucker people into playing games with me…I always used the line ‘well, no one else will play board game with me..’ worked everytime like a charm 😉
My favorite game had to be Monopoly..oh & I loved Mouse Trap, I just hated setting it up!

I hate monopoly too! My sister used to love it as a kid, though. When she would insist that my mom and I play with her, my mom would make cards and money “disappear” so that the game would move faster.

We loved games at my house! In fact, it’s all I ever did on playdates…my house was known for board games. I always liked Guess Who. What a silly game. I’m with you on Monopoly..so long and BORING! Now, I’m all about Scrabble, Taboo, Cranium, and Boggle 🙂

I love game night whether it is with friends or just my husband and me! Scrabble is one of my favorites to play with my family, but when we aren’t playing board games we love Left, Right, Center & Screw Your Neighbor (apparently everything is better with quarters). With our friends, we love Things, Balderdash and Apples to Apples! To intensify the stakes, we’ll sometimes throw in those Harry Potter style jelly beans to the pot to really create some fun!

I used to play Monopoly with my cousin’s kids on a really old board that my cousin’s used to have epic battles on when they were younger. I guess the games would take place over DAYS and they would keep everything set up so they could keep going. I don’t know if I’ll ever have that much dedication to something! lol
