When the alarm went off at 6:40 a.m. on Sunday morning, I must admit I wasn’t in the mood to crawl out of bed and run 6.2 miles. It was still dark outside and sleeping in sounded awfully appealing, but once I started getting ready, I began to feel the pre-race excitement. It never fails!
Since the race took place on St. Patrick’s Day, Ryan, Leslie, Ross and I made sure to dress festive for the occasion!
Lots of the runners and walkers got into the St. Patrick’s Day spirit and dressed in green. It was fun to check out some of the more creative outfits as we ran. I loved it!
We arrived with little time to spare and quickly picked up our race bibs before rushing over to the start line just as the gun went off.
Leslie and Ross did the 5K together and Ryan and I ran the 10K. The 10K course was identical to the 5K course (both races started at the same time), and meandered through the beautiful, shady Evergreen Cemetery. The 10K runners simply ran the 5K loop two times.
I forgot my Garmin at home, so my original plan to take a laid back approach to this race and run just for fun was even easier since I wasn’t tempted to check my pace on my running watch. Ryan matched my pace the whole time and it was fun to have a running buddy. The race itself was rather congested at the start and our first mile was pretty slow, but eventually we fell into a groove and had fun chatting throughout the run. Everyone seemed to be having a good time and the atmosphere was relaxed and fun.
Ryan and I crossed the finish line together in 55:43 (8:58 min./mi pace).
The post-race celebration included delicious cinnamon crunch Panera bagels and water.
It was a fun way to kick off St. Patrick’s Day!

After seeing all of the fun St. Patrick day races that other bloggers did I really wish I would have signed up for one! I honestly didn’t even think about it until it was too late to register for them.
I love those procompression socks! I wore mine this weekend too 🙂
Cute race tshirt too… so often you end up getting one that you never really want to wear so it’s fun when you get a nice one!
Oh my gosh! You guys are so cute 😀 So happy you had so much fun! You both look so happy crossing that finish line. Congratulations!
cute! Loving those socks 😉 I’ve been wearing mine all week!
Looks like the race was fun 🙂 I need to get into the whole dressing for the occasion for the races I run!
I need to start doing fun runs on holidays! Having a serious race was kind of stressful when all my friends were ready to party and all I wanted to do was nap!
Looks like a fun race! I want to run a St Patrick’s Day race next year.
Great time!! St Patty’s Race looks like a lot of fun!
Themed races are so fun. Any excuse to dress up! 🙂
Panera cinnamon crunch bagels are the best! You & Ryan and your sister and her bf are adorable! Love the festive outfits. I think it is so sweet that Ryan will run at your pace with you! How come y’all got pink stickers?
the race-day photographer put them on us so we would remember to visit his website after the race to look at race photos. 🙂
Ah- that was a good idea!
AHH those bagels are the best! When I was pregnant I ate them all the time!
I love running there! I did the Evergreen Pumpkin Run 10 Miler a year and a half ago around Halloween, and it’s a surprisingly beautiful course. Glad you enjoyed the race!
oh that sounds like it would be an awesome race!
LOVE your socks!! I wish I had worn those to my Shamrock Shuffle in Madison this past weekend! You all look adorable and so festive!
CONGRATS on a great, fun, festive race! How awesome to be able to celebrate the weekend with your sister 🙂
Such a cute picture of you two crossing the finish line. I love the ties too!
congrats on a great race! your shirts are a lot better then the shirts I got for my race! I am running my first 10k in 2 weeks and this post just made me even more excited for it!
I love that picture of you two crossing the finish line! I also have to say that I’m a little bit obsessed with those neckties, and I’ve seen a couple other bloggers running St. Paddy’s day races with them – they are a-freaking-dorbale. 🙂
I love your outfits! Panera bagels sound like the perfect post run meal!
Those ties are TOO cute!
Random question, do you wear your wedding/engagement ring when you run? I always want to wear mine when I race for good luck but I get so worried my diamond will fall out or something!
I would have felt like the ties were choking me the whole time 🙂 Super cute in all the St. patty’s gear
Looks like you guys had a lot of fun! Sometimes if is nice to do races for fun not just for time or take them so serious. Love the socks you wore 🙂

Great job on the run! Loved the running outfits, so cute, especially your socks! 🙂
This race looks fun! I was not very festive for my half marathon yesterday, and was wishing I had purchased some green gear that would be warm enough for the windy 38 degree race weather. I love your little ties! Super fun!
I get jealous how easygoing you are for the 10K race. For me, my 10K in May is the highlight of the spring season. My goal is to finish it under 1 hour 🙂 Let’s see if the hard work pays off
That looks so fun! Congrats on the run! I love the outfits! I wish I would have dressed up for my ten miler!!!
I love how dressed up you get for your races, this is adorable!!

Great job on the race! You guys look so cute and it looks like you had a blast!
I thought that was you! Imwas right behind you for the first 4 miles of the 10K and I wanted to run up to you but I didnt want to seem like a stalker. I finished the 10K in 57:52 which was a PR for me for that distance. I really wish I would have met you at the race, I love your blog and stories! Maybe next time you make it to Jax!
How fun, I love those shamrock socks 🙂
Looks like so much fun, I need to make sure I do one next year!
Looks like you had a great time! I always love seeing people dressed up for races, St. Patrick’s Day would be a fun run to dress up for. I really like the shirts you got, those are cute!

I’ve had that cinnamon crunch bagel you’re talking about… Oh, goodness. I die. It’s so good.
Hahahha your outfits are so cute! So is that picture at the end. What a perfect couple 🙂
Oh darn! I just saw this post and realized I was totally running like two people behind you in the first mile of Sunday’s race (I recognized your awesome socks and that color tank is my fav!) What a fun run – Happy (belated) St.Patrick’s Day! I used to live outside of Ocala, but now am in Tallahassee and visited a friend for the weekend to run this one. Happy Running and keep up the awesome blog!
Fun! I want to find holiday themed races near me to complete. They look so festive and happy!
Great race! what a fun weekend with your family, and your outfits are too cute!
