Remember how my week last week was dominated by peanut butter?
Well, now you may see the fruits of my labor…
You may click here to see the peanut butter recipe slideshow I created for Shape magazine in its entirety.
This may have been the most fun freelance project I’ve ever completed. Writing + Peanut Butter + Amazing Fitness Magazine. It’s going to be a hard one to top. I hope you guys enjoy the recipes!
Lunch
Today’s lunch was enjoyed outside of the home on a hot date with… myself.
I felt the urge to get out of the house to work today and headed to Starbucks to enjoy their free internet and a mocha light Frappuccino late this morning.
(Side note: I desperately need to clean my laptop screen. Anyone know of any good at-home cleaning techniques?)
Oh, and guess what? According to Starbucks and Shape, I’m a whole new person today. I’m Julie Fagan Jewlie Fagon.
Hey, Shape magazine can call me whatever they want.
I worked through my normal lunchtime at Starbucks and was enjoying my new work environment so much that I decided to buy a sandwich and continue plugging away.
I died a little inside when I paid $5.25 for that bad boy. It was pretty good, though I prefer my homemade egg salad.
I think I like all of my homemade egg and tuna salads more than the salads offered at restaurants because I make mine with Miracle Whip and not regular mayonnaise. I know Miracle Whip divides people and evokes a kind of hatred only matched by peoples’ hatred of cottage cheese, but I like it and will stand by the ol’ Whip. Regular mayonnaise gives me the heebie jeebies… kinda like catfish.
Time to get back to work. I think I may be ordering a hot tea because Starbucks is feeling a little chilly at the moment. Or I could walk outside because it’s hotter than a mofo in Orlando.
P.S. The Fashion page was updated this afternoon!
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
“Jewlie”, seriously? Who doesn’t know how to spell Julie!?
peanutbutterfingers says
i know. it made me laugh out loud. 🙂 i just wish it was jewlee.
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
This reminds me of a friend that just named her child Ella “Jewell” pronounced like jewel. I desperately want to tell her she mistakenly added an extra “l” to her child’s name.
Jihane @Sinful Sundays says
I just use a squirt of Windex and a paper towel to clean my screen. That’s how they did it at the computer store once and I was so shocked, lol but it’s how I’ve been doing it ever since.
And yea, I bought a Santa Fe sandwich or something about 2 weeks ago at Starbucks and it was like $5.69. Highway robbery!
Devan says
I use Windex as well. When I was in college, the IT help desk also used this to clean our laptops!
Liv @ The Salty n' Sweet says
Starbucks always sucks me in! Whenever I go there to work, I end up not leaving for hours and hours.
And what a coincidence on your name!!
I’m definitely on the nay side of Miracle Whip. There’s a weird taste that I can never get past! And same with cottage cheese 😛
peanutbutterfingers says
if by “weird taste” you mean the taste of angels, then i completely agree. 😉
vanessa says
haha
Laura @ Meet Virginia says
What an awesome article, Julie. How exciting to be writing for Shape!!!
Jenny @ Fitness Health and Food says
hahah! That’s too funny well at least it reads the same way as your real name 😛
Congrats on the feature that’s wonderful! 🙂
Courtney @ The Granola Chronicles says
What a fun freelance project. Definitely sounds like a winning combo for ya! 🙂
Lee @ in the pink of condition says
Congrats!!! So funny about all the misspellings of your name. Trust me, I get it all the time, because my last name is 11 letters!
Cait @ Urban Fencepost says
Woohoo, Shape magazine – nice job girl!
Brandi @ The Vitamin Bee says
The funniest misspelling of my name was Baride. I kid you not. Usually people mistake Brandi for Brenda (I get that…kinda?) but this girl wrote Baride on my coffee cup and called for Baride for a good two minutes before I realized I was Baride!
I dont like egg salad that isnt homemade because it seems like people never season it! A little salt and pepper go a long way!
I had no idea that mayo or miracle whip were different…I never use either in my day to day life and I only use mayo in a recipe when I absolutely have to!
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
Wowie Shape Mag?! loves 🙂 and congrats!! ugh sometimes Starbucks prices can be….well…pricey haha! I always end up prefering my own stuff anyhow!
Laura @ prettylittlewords says
Bahahaha, I almost spit out and subsequently choked on my coffee when I read “Jewlie Fagon.”
Hope says
Oh, my! Jewlie! How do you not know how to spell Julie?! Crazy! Sometimes people ask me how to spell my name. Seriously? Tell me how many different ways you can spell Hope.
Congrats on the feature in Shape! That is awesome!!! 🙂
vanessa says
it looks like they put jen and then realized it was supposed to be julie. haha
When I was reading the article i just wanted to be like “I know her” well in cyber world 🙂
I hope you get good tips on cleaning screens.. mine needs a good scrubbin!
Elizabeth says
I can’t tell you how many times Starbucks has spelled “Liz” or “Elizabeth” wrong. I get that “Elizabeth” is long and can be confusing to some, but “Lyss” is not my name! haha. Once a barista butchered “Elizabeth” so bad he wrote “sorry” under it!
peanutbutterfingers says
hahahaha i love it. elizabeth is my middle name. 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
i would love it if my cup said “jewlie sorry fagon.”
Elizabeth says
What an awesome middle name!
Oh man that would have been an awesome cup, like save and put on a shelf cup!
Lindsay@InSweetnessandInHealth says
OMG congrats on the Shape Mag article! That’s awesome! I may have referred to you as a “granola goddess” in the blog post I did earlier because I made your PB granola. It was AWESOME 🙂 Thank you! And I did it with dark chocolate dreams…more like dark chocolate granola heaven
Lay-j says
I made some similar to this too. I used Dark Chocolate Almond Butter and almond extract instead of vanilla. SO GOOD!!
Carol @luckyzucca says
Coffee shop + laptop/book is the best. I always feel so much better spending time with my nose in a book or on the computer when I go somewhere outside the house! I can’t really put my finger on why, but I fell in love with it when I was in grad school writing mile long papers and listening to live piano music in my favorite coffee shop. It is soothing in a way and I always felt like I was able to get more done!
PS Your recipes look amazing! Congrats on such an exciting freelance article!
Bee Goes Bananas says
Haha who is actually named Jewlie? I’ve never seen that version before. So weird!
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
I haven’t had egg salad for so long… it’s strange how different Starbucks carry such different products!
Tiff @ Love, Sweat, and Beers says
Congrats! That’s such an accomplishment. Way to get your name out there… even if it’s your misspelled name!
Shayla says
What awesome recipes on Shape magazine, amazing accomplishment too! Can’t wait to try them, especially the pb granola!! 🙂
Brittany says
I never knew there was a difference between miracle whip and mayo. I think they’re both YUCKY. Yes, I’m 5 years old and I still call things yucky…
Lindsey @ Happy or Hungry says
Hahaha at Jewlie.
Congrats on the freelance stuff for Shape! That’s awesome.
Liza says
So excited for you about your article! Yea!
Ahh, egg salad is my weakness. I love it on sandwiches (obviously), bagels, as a dip with pita chips (weird?), and sometimes just by the spoonful….. *sigh*
eliza says
We’re also a Miracle Whip, no mayo house. Makes egg salad and tuna so much better.
peanutbutterfingers says
amen!!! miracle whip lovers unite! i think a preference for miracle whip begins during childhood.
Gillian Young says
Good trick for cleaning your computer screen – use your sunglasses wipe! Turn off computer and gently rub screen until clean as a whistle!
peanutbutterfingers says
what if there is crusty stuff on the screen? i feel like i have an entire meal’s worth of crumbs in my key pad.
Gillian Young says
I use rubbing alcohol for my keyboard…for crumbes maybe use q-tips or a duster? 🙂
Christy @ So I Follow the Sun says
Congrats on the Shape recipes! I really liked the apple sandwich one… how clever!
Katie Bonk says
Congratulations on the Shape article! I’ll be trying out a few of those recipes. 🙂
I substitute plain greek yogurt for mayo in my egg salad, and it’s surprisingly tasty!! Try it out in a small batch of egg salad sometime!
Anna says
Congrats on your Photos in SHAPE!! They look great!
And I am with you! Miracle Whip all the way! My husband thinks it’s disgusting, but I LOVE it!!
peanutbutterfingers says
and you MARRIED him!?! it’s okay, i guess. we all have our flaws. 😉 i’ve slowly turned ryan on to miracle whip. it can be done. baby steps. 🙂
Anna says
HAHA If you turned your husband onto Miracle Whip, then there’s still hope for me!
Ashley O. @ The Vegetable Life says
Congrats on the Shape Magazine post that is ridiculously awesome! All of your recipes look soooo DELICIOUS and sinful, so the fact they are healthy makes then even better!!!!!!!
Samantha Beam says
Just looked at the Shape slideshow and it looks fantastic!! Great job, you must be so proud!!!
Jacqueline says
Congratulations to you!! Well done, Julie!
Carrie says
Bahahaha at the Jewlie!! Poor guy couldn’t spell!! Congrats on the Shape article… I’m going to go check it out right now!!
Melissa @ Mouth Watering Morsel says
Mmm starbucks! I love their chicken pesto pasta but I’m not sure that’s on the menu anymore. Oh wells. Mine tastes better anyways. 😉
I use a little bit of rubbing alcohol mixed with a little bit of water. put it on a rag and wipe. works for the screen and the keys, etc. I think this is cheaper than windex, etc.
Lindsey says
I love my egg salad made with hummus! Try it, you won’t be disappointed 🙂
I saw your article in Shape! Congrats! And I will be making the pb oatmeal cookies for sure!
Carrie @ TV and Dinners says
I think my favorite crazy Starbucks name story is a something Chad Ochocinco (wide receiver for the Bengals) tweeted. He went to Starbucks and on his cup they just wrote “The Black Guy.” Hilarious. He had a pic of the cup and everything.
Ah, Starbucks. Never change.
Faith @ lovelyascharged says
I’m so glad that I’m not the only one that gets skeeved out by mayo…except miracle whip and even veganaise do the same thing to me. It always makes my stomach flip, and I can’t eat most prepared salads like that because I can taste the gobs of mayo that they use! Bummer, because that sandwich looks super yummy!
Jillian says
They sell monitor wipes at Best Buy that are safe for computer and laptop screens! 🙂
Jemma @ Celery and Cupcakes says
Ha! Jewlie! All of your recipes for Shape look fab!
Keely (Sky Blue) says
How anyone could get “Jewlie” out of “Julie” is beyond me.
I’m totally with you on the Miracle Whip by the way. Mayonnaise is frightening. And cottage cheese hate makes me sad.
Kristen @ The Red Velvet Life says
ahaha Jewlie! 😉 Congrats on Shape; that’s amazing! I *so* want to make some peanut butter pancakes soon! And my computer screen could use some serious cleaning, too! I need to read through the comments to see if anyone has ideas 🙂 Congrats again, Julie!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Isn’t Starbucks the best office?! I’ve done some of my most productive studying and writing there! Hope you’re having a great afternoon Julie – I mean Jewlie! 😉
Carrie says

Janiek says
That’s so cool that you got to write for Shape Magazine!!
Julia says
I also had a work day at Starbucks today. I get a kick out of how the barista’s butcher names so badly. Today though my honey and I were the only ones in the place so they didn’t ask my name 🙂
Love your slide show in SHAPE. I went through the recipes and realized I have made all but 3 of them out of the 11. So delicious and I cannot wait to make the rest!
oh and I am a true mayo lover, the taste of Miracle Whip is no “taste of angels” haha
Gen says
Sometimes I tell myself, if only Starbucks would deliver at home!!! I’m lucky because we have some of their shops in Paris and near, but it’s not the case in the rest of France. I hope one day they’ll spread!
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
Hey Jewlie! Too Funny! Congratulations on your work with Shape, that’s fantastic!!!!
Man, a frappuccino sounds so good right now 🙂
Michelle says

Jenn says

Joelle (On A Pink Typewriter) says
Bahaha oh man, I totally feel your pain on that one.. My name always gets destroyed by people at Starbucks or anywhere that takes my name for the order – Joel, Noelle, Julie, Jolene… I would have thought “Julie” wouldn’t be a complicated one but maybe not.. 😉
ellalinea says
Hahahah I have experienced the same thing at starbucks.. My name nathalie had been made into :
Nathie/ ettie/ hayley/ natoli/.. 🙂
Congrats on your shape article!! 🙂
