Sometimes I welcome Mondays with open arms. Sure that whole work thang is a little pesky, but along with Mondays come routine and stability which makes working out and eating healthy a bit easier for me.
This morning Ryan and I hit the gym nice and early and completed 20 minutes of cardio on the elliptical before parting ways. While he wandered off to do some he-man lifting, I stuck to BodyPump.
Afterward we headed home to take Sadie on a one-mile walk before breakfast and shower time.
Breakfast
Today’s breakfast felt like a special treat!
I typically avoid making eggs for breakfast on weekdays because of the time, but when you really think about it, how much time does it actually take to fry an egg? Three minutes? Not even!
This little egg epiphany inspired me to make myself an egg-tastic breakfast! I topped two Van’s waffles with a dippy egg, salt and pepper and enjoyed a weekend breakfast on a weekday.
The dippy yolk was the best part. Not only is dipping just plain fun, but toasted waffles soaked in a gooey yolk screams comfort food to me.
Now I just need to grab a book and curl up on the couch for the rest of the day. Oh right… work.
Last Meal
Last week I read an article that detailed the last meal requests of some of the most infamous murderers and serial killers. I found it oddly interesting to read about what some people selected (like two pints of mint chocolate chip ice cream!) and the article got me thinking about what meal I would select if I knew it would be my final meal on earth. Kind of depressing to think about, but oddly intriguing, no?
After much thought and consideration, I decided upon the following:
Dinner: Houston’s French dip sandwich with a side of mashed sweet potatoes and crisp green beans… and crab legs.
Dessert: Houston’s hot fudge sundae with a slice of my mom’s homemade red velvet cake on the side.
Now it’s your turn to get a little morbid.
What would be your last meal requests?
Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine says
That article is really interesting!! I’d have to think about the dinner, but I think it would be some kind of fried seafood. Dessert is easy, though: the raw mint chocolate sundae from Pure Food and Wine. Seriously. It’s THAT good.
Carrie says
oh iv already thought about this one!!!. A WHOLE JAR OF PEANUT BUTTER ! with everything to dip it in!!!!!!!!
i love the drippy egg over waffle combo!
Chad @ thebreakupnote says
Ahh… nothing like a good dippy egg!
Chad @ thebreakupnote says
And to answer your question… hmmm – I would have to request something I’ve never tried before, but always wanted too eat.. so i dunno!
Holly says
I think your meal needs to include a peanut butter finger..or two 😉
Paula @ Eat: Watch: Run says
My husband and I were JUST talking about this last night. Funny you mentioned this!
He’d pick pizza. < —- lame!
I'd pick a gyro from a really good Greek restaurant. For dessert – probably a cookies n creme cupcake from Sweet! Or two. Or three.
Khushboo says
I’m totally with you about the welcoming Mondays- I love starting the week fresh and what better way to kick it off than a schweaty workout!
Brittany (A Healthy Slice of Life) says
I’d have to have a ‘last meal buffet’ of chips and salsa, 7 layer dip, channa masala, mellow mushroom pizza, my mom’s cherry cheese junk, fried goat cheese salad…
must I go on? 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
Hahaha I like your style!
Megan says
Pizza and sweet potato french fries with a plate of gooey chocolate chip cookies for dessert! Holy yum!
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
I’d want either a big plate of breakfast foods: french toast, eggs, biscuits/gravy or a big juicy hamburger with a baked sweet potato. Either meal would be followed by a large cookie dough/M&M blizzard from DQ 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
Love your choice!!
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
Chilean Sea Bass at my favorite Pittsburgh restaurant, Bistro 19… it’s endangered and I feel bad eating it but it’s the most amazing meal I’ve ever had.
Kelly says
Oh morbid AND fun!
Appetizer: smoked salmon from Houston’s (you and Ryan have GOT to try that!!)
Dinner: I would have the Seabass with lentils and wilted spinach from North.
Dessert: A Giant piece of chocolate chip cookie cake from the Great American Cookie Company!
Gen says
Love dippy eggs!!!!! 😀
I’d choose a bread bowl of my favorite cheesy tortilla soup for dinner, some of my mom’s brownies and endless chocolate fondue for dessert!!! 😀
Colleen says
Interesting article! One of my classmates is interning at the nutrition department in a prison and I forwarded it along to her. For my last meal I would want a huge bucket of dirt cake!
Parita @ myinnershakti says
My last meal would include cheese and chocolate. So maybe a trio of Indian paneer curry, a piece of veggie lasagna, and a cheese enchilada. All of that would be followed up with a huge, soft, warm chocolate chip cookie and a glass of milk – skim of course! 😉
Bri says
I’d probably have tacos followed by mint chocolate chip ice cream covered in rainbow sprinkles!
Rachel @ the perseverance diaries says
My last meal would be an onion bagel with scallion cream cheese, lox, capers, red onion and tomato from Russ and Daughters in NYC. I know it sounds so simple but it’s amazing!! Dessert would be banana cream pudding from Magnolia Bakery. I’m so hungry now! 🙂
Stephanie @ StephSnacks says
My last meal would be something decadent with a million sides! For dessert, I have to go with the Red Velvet Cake from Carousel Cakes!
Jamie aka "Sometimes Healthy" Girl says
I realize it’s a morbid thought…but I’ve totally thought about this before 🙂
My last meal would be classic: A cheeseburger with french fries from either Johnny Rocketts or New York’s infamous Shake Shack. AND of course, a chocolate shake on the side!
Hope says
I love sunny side up eggs! They are definitely a good breakfast choice in my opinion.
My last meal would be chicken enchiladas with chips and guacamole from this restaurant near me. Plus, I would also want a blizzard from DQ and lots of cannolis!
Brittany says
Ahhh! I’m sooo glad you call them dippy eggs because whenever I say that my boyfriend yells at me and tells me they are not dippy eggs, that dippy eggs are soft-boiled eggs. Humph. I think not!
So last meal, funny story. They did this at a phillies game where they showed all the players on the big screen talking about what their last meal would be. (go phils!) So I asked my brother what his would be-popcorn shrimp-and he asked me mine. Now, at this time I was a strict vegetarian and didn’t eat any form of meat or seafood. But at that moment I thought, “if it’s my last meal, I’d say, ‘f*** it, give me a crabcake!'” from that point on I decided I was going to eat seafood if it was something I really wanted to eat. I didnt wanna deprive myself of one of my favorite foods. Now I’m pretty much a pescetarian. (although sometimes I lie at restaurants and tell them I’m a veggie so I can get the yummy vegetarian meals they always make but leave off their menu. Seriously good!)
Amber K says
Soft-boiled eggs? I’ve heard dippy eggs and what my grandma called them “dip-dip” eggs, but soft boiled? How boring 😉
Katie says
We called them sunny-side up eggs?!
Lauren says
I’d probably have a falafel pita with hot sauce, followed by half baked Ben & Jerry’s! Probably a big bowl of fruit salad too with all my favorites – strawberries, blueberries, pineapples, and more.
Stephy says
This sort of thing is always fun to do….
I would have Alaskan Kings Crab Legs and Mussels in white wine sauce, with a side of crispy homemade two-tone-fries (sweet/regular potatoe), then for dessert there would be Nanaimo Bars and Various Parisian Macarons. Now I am hungry again haha.
Ashley says
I think I would go for spinach artichoke dip, then some ( a lot of) indian food from my favorite restaurant, then a slice of chocolate hazelnut torte with a side of Ben and Jerry’s half baked ice cream.
Christina says
Whoa, that tempura roll sounds incredible!! What city is Shin in??
faith @ lovelyascharged says
I would start off at Shin for an avocado and sweet potato tempura roll as an appetizer…then I’d pack away lots of doughy buttery naan, some macaroni and cheese, mushroom brie soup from Urban Flats and then a monster cookie to wrap it up!
Alaina says
My last meal would be a kobe beef steak either from the Oak Room or o ya. 🙂
courtney @ cupcakedynamite says
i thought that was ice cream on your waffles. now THAT would get this week started. 😉 i love food way too much to ever think about a last meal!! :(!!
Chelsea @ A New Frontier says
Strangely enough I have thought about this several times. I think I would have to go with a place that I grew up eating when we lived in California. It’s a mexican place called Alfredo’s in Torrance and I LOVE their bean and cheese burritos SO MUCH!! When you cut into them the cheese just oozes out..OMG!! And for dessert my mother in laws carrot cake!
emily says
This answer probably changes every day, but this morning I’ll say –
Nachos with tons of extra sharp cheddar and jalopenos
gnocci in butter sauce from Pano’s restaurant
oven roasted green beans
and banana split cupcakes (http://eatingchalk.com/eats/desserts/banana-split-cupcakes/)
I want to leave this world with a fulll belly!
Heather (Heather's dish) says
I’ll take a French dip too….holy yum that sounds good right now!
Courtney @ The Granola Chronicles says
Parmesan Truffle Fries from The Capital Grille would have to be part of my last meal request – so tasty!
kristen says
There are these things called a Horse Shoe. Here in Illinois and st louis. Have you heard of them? I have never had one (mostly because theyare A MILLION calories. Colleen @ The Lunchbox Diaries says
My last meal? I don’t know! I DO know that Wendy’s french fries would be in there somewhere 🙂
Michelle P. says
There is this amazing restaurant in our area called R.L’s off the square. They have a grouper that is to die for. It’s groper with a cream sauce with a piece of friend green tomato on a bead of steamed cabbage. A-Mazing! Probably that or Oyster stew. And I am not really a dessert person (other than being a cupcake fanatic) but I would def. choose my mom’s chocolate cake.
Michelle P. says
*fried* not friend Ugh it’s Monday! LOL
Tori (Fresh Fruition) says
I’ve never thought about what my last meal request would be! Probably a whole chocolate mousse fudge bomb cake that they sell at our grocery chain. With a side of cheesecake. AHHH MY SWEET TOOTH! And maybe a jar of peanut butter?
Dawn @ Blonde on a Mission says
My last meal request would be shrimp fettucini alfredo from Red Lobster with garlic cheese toast. I used to get it when I was a kid, before I realized how terrible fettucini alfredo is for you. And I’d want my favourite ice cream for dessert – mint chocolate! Weird that I share that favourite with a prison inmate haha
Katie says
My last request would be for bacon-bbq shrimp, bacon bleu cheese burger, steak fries with loads of ketchup, washed down with a really big bottle of red wine. And for dessert I’d want tiramisu, coconut cake, and red velvet cake.
I’d also request to watch reruns of Modern Family while I ate my meal. 🙂
Amy says
Oh gosh that’s such a tough question! I honestly do not think I could choose just one thing to have as my last meal. I would have to say I’d want a buffet of anything and everything I have ever said I liked…seafood, pizza, pasta, dessert (lots of these), donuts, coffee cake…the list could go on forever!
Now I know what I am going to be thinking about all day at work today 😉
Shanna, Like Banana says
Haha, I brought this up in a post about a month ago..morbid but interesting!
I’d have a little bit of everything: deep dish pizza from Giordanno’s and Mexi from Celia’s (in Cali) and then a pumpkin pie with tons of cool whip. And a HUGE bottle of really good Pinot Noir.
Cait @ Beyond Bananas says
Hmm.. last meal requests for me. Wow. This is really hard to think of. I think I’d keep it simple.. with a turkey burger and sweet potato fries. Dessert.. fro yo and a MASSIVE amount of dark chocolate.
Angela @ My Pinky Toes says
I would definitely want chips and salsa from my local, cheap, authentic mexican restaurant…and some white cheese dip…and probably a margarita!
Shell says
There is also a book of quotes of what people have said as there last words…this is a very morbid monday, lol!
Melissa says
Oh my gosh, how could you choose? I guess maybe filet mignon wrapped in bacon, king crab legs, roasted veggies, and a giant brownie sundae from Fridays to finish it off. Oh, and some birthday cake. And wine. And a few gummy bears . . .
Keely (Sky Blue) says
ohh gosh. that sundae looks to die for.
aaaand i just realized what an ironic thing that was to say…. 😉
Amber K says
I can never figure out my answer to this. I would stuff myself soo full because there are just entirely too many awesome foods to miss out on. I need a last-meal WEEK 🙂

Daniella @ Runner at Heart says
I would want my mother’s spicy chicken pizza with a side salad of romaine just with salt, pepper and oil and vinegar. For dessert I would want a brownie ice cream sundae with hot fudge, marshmallow, lots of nuts and a cherry.
