Last Minute Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas
Put together a gift box of your loved one’s favorite treats and create little tags for each item that includes a little note about why you think they’re the best! (I created the above box for Ryan for our three-year anniversary, but you could easily turn it into a Valentine’s Day treat box.)
Assemble a small bunch of cards for a loved one to “open when” they need some sweet words of encouragement.
Such a fun idea for the beer-lover in your life!
I think this homemade heart mug would be such a sweet Valentine’s Day surprise for a girlfriend who loves her morning cup of coffee.
What a fun idea for the sports fan in your life! It’s simple, creative and super cute!
- Valentine’s Day Candy Heart Poster
I’ve featured this candy heart poster on the blog before, but Ryan got such a kick out of it, that I had to highlight it again. Simply buy a bag of candy hearts and build a letter to your loved one around the words on the hearts.
Sneak out to your loved one’s car the night before Valentine’s Day and decorate the dash with colorful hearts, each filled with a reason why you love them!
- 12 Months of Pre-Planned Dates
This is very similar to the date night jar I featured on the blog before that I made for my sister and her husband when they got engaged, but this blog post includes free printables to make the project easier! And just in case you need some date night ideas, here are a bunch: 12 Inexpensive Date Night Ideas.

Questions:
- Have you ever received a gift for Valentine’s Day gift that you thought was especially thoughtful or creative?
- What is one gift you’ve given in the past that you think really made someone feel loved on Valentine’s Day?
I love that beer idea!! Josh loves craft beers and would get such a kick out of that.
This year I’m doing a see, hear, smell, touch, taste gift all whiskey themed. So he has 5 boxes to open each labeled with a different sense.
See- A framed print that says, “Call me old fashioned” with a picture of an old fashioned for his office.
Hear – A card and a note to download the Whisky Cast podcast.
Smell- Cologne that has whisky notes in it.
Touch- Whisky stones for his drinks.
Taste- A bottle of whisky!
I’m really excited for him to open it. 😀 I love Valentine’s Day!
I love this!
This is a great idea! So creative!
this is so thoughtful!!!! love it!
Love all of these! Especially the mugs! That’s such a fine idea even for a gift for my girl friends!
Such great ideas! My husband and I don’t make a big deal out of valentine’s day, but it is always nice to have something little to give him.
oh my gosh these are SO cute!!! im saving these for every little occasion!
This post has so many great ideas! I love how creative, yet simple all of them are! Especially since sometimes I need quite a bit of inspiration to make cool gifts. Last year, I gave my boyfriend the date-night jar that you shared, and he loved it! It was a fun thing to pull ideas from throughout the year. This year we’ll be apart, but it’s fun to write letters and send little gifts. Getting fun things in the mail is always kinda special.
Two years ago, my boyfriend brought me to the animal shelter to get a dog for Valentine’s Day. He had just had ACL surgery so he couldn’t drive. He still wanted it to be a surprise so I drove and he gave me directions along the way – how romantic right? Our dog (Bella) is by far the best Vday gift ever so now we don’t even compete with that and we keep it small 🙂 Love all these ideas!!
aw!!! a dog definitely cannot be beat!
These are great ideas! A coule years ago I gave my now-fiance the 12 months of dates.. But to be completely honest we kind of forgot! LOL oh well, then we just kinda looked at them all 🙂 it works!

the confetti heart mugs are so cute!
AHH I love all of these ideas! I love you and Ryan’s annual Valentine’s mission, but these are such fun ideas, too!
My husband and I usually don’t do gifts for each other for Valentine’s Day, but I just might have to do that beer one. It’s so cute!
My husband and I love going all out on all special occasions! I’ve turned him into quite the crafter, and now he has me beat! Not to mention he know has a pinterest account, lol
This years valentine is pretty sweet, I created a glitter version of the state of Illinois, with a heart over Chicago and I’m going to frame it. Chose the same color he did something similar with for out wedding vows, both are hanging in the nursery. Check it out! http://justmarried12.blogspot.com/
We aren’t big on fancy, romantic dinners, but sometimes when my husband has to work through the weekend I’ll go to Whole Foods and pick out a bunch of random little things (like eggrolls, a roll of sushi, a fillet of salmon, a cupcake, a wedge of nice cheese and crackers… just whatever sounds good). Then when he gets home, I open a bottle of wine and tell him dinner tonight is a ‘tasting menu’. Then we just linger over dinner and I cook one dish at a time (mind you most of them are just things I have to heat up).
I think it is a big hit because it is a fun way to relax and unwind, not just scarf down food, and he likes being surprised at what dish comes next. Plus it doesn’t matter what time he gets home because it doesn’t take long to make any single dish and it isn’t like food is sitting out going cold. AND there are basically no dishes or mess to clean up, depending on what I pick out 🙂 Win.
The heart notes inside of the car is so cute! I love gifts like that. Also, I remember when you first posted that candy note to Ryan. So adorable! Enjoy the time with your family in Florida. <3
Love the baseball one, my fiancee loves baseball and would enjoy this. Great ideas!

Cute ideas, Julie! I always tend to BUY stuff for my hubby, but I know he would die if I took the time with some of these cute DIY numbers. Maybe the favorite treats box for this year? That looks like a good one. Have fun with the fam! 🙂
The treats box is a fun one!! And it really doesn’t take too long to assemble. Plus, all guys love food, so it’s usually a winner 🙂
My best friend once received the “open when you are..” letters as a gift.. randomly… from her boyfriend (Valentine’s Day was no where in sight). We thought for SURE the last letter would be a proposal letter. Well.. it wasn’t, and man were those the longest 3 months of my friend’s life (and let’s be honest, mine as well) . Luckily they are now engaged and getting married in August!!
I have a couple of other friends who know they have proposals on the horizon, so this weekend everyone is on pins and needles!! So exciting.
Otherwise my husband and I are not one for v-day gifts – even though one of my love language is gift giving!!! The holiday always seems to sneak up on us, I guess!
Julie, did you ever check out those over-the-knee boots? Hope you enjoy them if you did buy them!
One year when I was in high school my bf used to call me his “puzzle piece.” I took one of my favorite puzzles and put it together, then wrote him a letter on the back and broke it up again. I gave it to him as a gift and he had to put the puzzle together to read the note. It was a cute idea!
I’ve never had a boyfriend on V-Day, so I tend to tell my family and friends how much I appreciate them. And give them candy. Lots of candy. This year, I’m thinking Chocolate Chip Mickey Mouse Waffles for Breakfast (We’re massive Disney nerds in our house).
I want to come to YOUR house on Valentine’s Day morning!!
Love the cute mugs!!!! I’m doing the mason jar idea- I added “reasons why i love you” and another jar for “reasons why i love us”. hopefully he will not think i am a total cheeseball! :):):)

Great ideas! No Valentine for me this year, but I might just get a treat box for myself – ha.
These are SO cute! My fiance’s birthday is actually on Valentine’s Day. Poor guy! This year, he’s getting a lot of good stuff but I’m beyond excited to give him a gift that I’ve been working on for awhile. For the past month, I’ve been collecting letters from his friends (they’ve been mailing them to me…luckily, he never checks the mail lol). He’ll be getting all of them in a jar that’s decorated and he can open one whenever he needs to smile. I think I’ve collected over 100 letters so far! 🙂
This is so sweet!!! He will LOVE it!
Such cute ideas!! I think I may steal the beer idea for my hubby 🙂
LOVE the 6-pack idea. Looks like I’ll be getting crafty tomorrow… 😉 Thanks for the ideas!
I’m doing the beer idea this year for Christopher! I love the little treat box you made for Ryan! I also love the poster! I have seen other examples of that using different candy and it is so cute! Your so thoughtful and creative!
I love the idea of the treat box!!!
Such sweet ideas! I love the idea of a homemade gift, as opposed to one that’s store bought.
My boyfriend and I got each other a trip for this V-Day — we’re celebrating from Austin, TX. 🙂 I love little getaways like that.
Always, Anita
Love the mug idea! SO cute.
I like your favorite treats box! I am working on something similar. BTW how is it already the middle of February?!?!?
AH I love that beer idea!! so clever!
I am not all that crafy, but these ideas are super cute. Love the hearts in the car. Very creative!
These are great, thanks for sharing! xoxo, ganeeban
Hi Julie!! I just wanted to thank you for all you information about the NASM program! I contacted Michael after reading your very helpful NASM post and he was able to give me a great discount!! Thank you so much, I am looking forward to this new chapter in my life!
PS Love these Valentine’s ideas! Those mugs are adorable! 🙂
Love these ideas– especially the candy heart poster!
I love the “open when” letters. They make for the perfect inexpensive gift. My boyfriend loved them last year. I really want to switch it up though. I’m thinking about getting him something from this graphic (http://bit.ly/VdayatLM) instead for his car.
you have some awesome ideas! I’ll definitely be using the beer idea. I got my husband a “beer basket” one year but I really like the idea of homemade labels to make it more exciting when revealing which beers he gets!
