Morning
Oooh it was a GREAT morning yesterday because all of the boys slept in until nearly 7:30 a.m. Woop! Rhett has been on a bit of a later schedule ever since we returned home from our time in Florida with my family and I LOVE it. I much prefer his bedtime inching closer to 8 p.m. if it means he’ll sleep until 7:30 a.m. Give me later wakeups any day of the week!
Since all the boys slept so well last night, I took full advantage of their snoozing and worked on the computer for a few hours before they were awake for the day. Once everyone was up and fed, we played at home for a bit.
My breakfast looked like a smoothie made with a base of my favorite mint + cacao Daily Harvest smoothie cup and some fresh spinach and chocolate protein powder. (Just FYI for anyone hoping to try Daily Harvest, you may use my code PBFINGERS to receive $25 off 9 items, $30 off 14 items or $40 off 24 items.)
Mornings lately often include Rhett’s absolute favorite activity — riding on a Plasma Car in Chase’s lap!
Chase makes loud engine noises as they ride together and he gets the biggest kick out of it!
Another thing Rhett gets a big kick out of? The STAIRS.
This kid makes a beeline for the stairs all day long and may be the child who forces us to get baby gates after successfully avoiding them with his big brothers.
Eventually, we all loaded into my car and headed off to Burn Boot Camp where I went through a leg day workout while the boys played in childcare. One thing that really helps Rhett’s transition into childcare is when Chase holds him and carries him in. We came up with this system last week and something about Chase carrying Rhett into childcare and setting him up with toys puts him at ease and gets him excited for playtime. I started Chase and Ryder in gym childcare at a much younger age so they never really had a hard time with the separation but it’s been more of an adjustment for Rhett. Thankfully even when he cries, it only lasts for a minute or so until he gets distracted by toys and his brothers.
As for my workout, it was SO nice to have a little uninterrupted me time! The workout on the agenda took us through 30 mintues of decreasing reps (20, 18, 16… etc.) of 5 different exercises:
- Dumbbell Squats
- Heavy Dumbbell Hip Thrusters
- Walking Lunges
- Dumbbell Hamstring Curls
- Deadlifts
It felt good to move my body and work up a sweat to kick off the day. My booty is sore today!
Once we made it home, we played outside for a bit until everyone seemed ready for an early lunch. Rhett’s later wake-up time pushed his nap back until after lunchtime which ended up working really well for our afternoon plans. He slept hard after lunch while Ryder had quiet time in his room. Ryder typically naps maybe 3ish days a week and other days, if we are home, he will have quiet time in his room with books and toys. With Chase and Ryder out of school this summer and sharing a room, they’re truly attached at the hip from the moment they wake up to the moment they go to sleep so a mid-day break is a good thing not only for Ryder to rest but also for a little brother breather. Chase and Ryder always seem to play better together in the evenings after a brief brother break in the middle of the day.
While Ryder and Rhett rested, I had some one-on-one time with Chase and we did some more of the experiments from the Crayola Color Chemistry Lab set he received from a friend for his birthday.
He is SO into experiments lately and, as a mom, I appreciate the fact that the experiments in the Crayola Color Chemistry Lab are suuuper easy to assemble. They aren’t crazy involved which gives the set big-time bonus points from me since the experiments are fun without feeling like they take a million years to set up. After a few experiments, Chase listened to a podcast while I got a little work done and then everyone was up and ready for our afternoon plans!
Afternoon + Evening
We spent the late afternoon and early evening at a local pool celebrating the birthday of one of Chase’s friends.
The boys loved playing with their buddies and Ryder was all about the water slides for the first time this summer!
His swimming really skyrocketed after ISR and our trip to Florida back in July and it has been so fun to watch. We joke that Ryder’s mission in life is to be able to do everything his big brother does so he’s incredibly motivated to learn new skills and try new things in the water. As someone who grew up loving swimming and the water, it always makes me so happy to see our boys enjoying the pool and lake so much! I also gave Chase some big brother bonus points for talking Ryder through how a water slide works and waiting for him at the base of the slide so they could swim to the ladder together the first few times. Brother perks!
Rhett spent most of our pool time splashing in my arms and did well, especially considering the fact that he was going on one nap for the day.
We ended up calling it a day right around 6 p.m. because Rhett was clearly getting antsy and we were all getting hungry! We made it home, said hi to Ryan who had just wrapped up his work day, and dug into the dinner I prepped earlier in the day before getting the boys in bed.
On my plate: Marinated pork chops, baked sweet potato and roasted onion.
Once all the boys were in bed, I had some work I needed to do for an Instagram collaboration, so I spent a little time on the computer and my phone before Ryan and I talked for a bit and then headed upstairs to read before bed.
Aaand now I think we’re all caught up! I hope you guys enjoy the rest of the week and hopefully I’ll see ya back here on Friday for another round of Friday favs!

Have you tried the Diet Coke and Mentos experiment? That was always a big hit in our house!
Julie says
No but I need to try this!!
Yanet says
Just curious, how do you prepare dinner? Do you cook it early in the day and then just reheat it in the microwave? It looked like a yummy nutritious meal! I have trouble doing things out of the house so close to dinner, I would love some tips!
Julie says
Yes!! I just basically any window I have during the day to prep dinner — often times I do it during Rhett’s nap and/or Ryder’s nap/quiet time and we just reheat it. We don’t mind reheating food at all in our house so this works really well for us!
Elise says
Hi Julie! What temp and time do you roast your onions at? They look amazing!
Julie says
Hi! I roasted them at 350 until they were nice and soft/started to almost caramelized!
Reenie says
I’m tired just reading all of this. Ha!!

How do you bring your boys to childcare for Burn Boot Camp amidst crushing delta rates in your region? How do you justify exposing them for the sake of your abs? I’ve been a faithful reader for a while, but you’ve lost my readership. It’s just plain selfish for a mother to do this.

I’m so disheartened by your comment. Everyone, but perhaps especially mothers of young children, needs support right now. Your comment is spiteful and just plain mean. We are all doing our best. And prioritizing our mental health is never a wrong choice.
