On Thursday morning, Ryan and I were up before dawn to catch an early flight from Dublin to London. Our flight ended up being delayed by more than an hour due to weather and by the time we landed in London, we were ready to get the day going!
After navigating the London Underground, we arrived at our hotel, checked in and made a game plan for the day. Ryan really wanted to ride the London Eye, a gigantic Ferris wheel located on the River Thames.
The :London Eye didn’t really intrigue me too much, but once we hopped aboard, I changed my tune. It was a great thing to do as our first main activity in London because it really helped us get a lay of the land since we could see the whole city and locate the famous sights, including Buckingham Palace, Big Ben and more.
The views were quite spectacular and riding the London Eye right away made us feel all the more excited about the next couple days ahead of us!
We spent the next several hours walking around the city, exploring the usual hot spots including Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square and more.
During our time in Trafalgar Square, we bought half-price tickets to a show the next day which was great! (Thanks so much to those of you who suggested this!)
When Ryan and I started to get hungry for dinner, I suggested buying something sweet to tide us over at Harrod’s since I really wanted Ryan to see the incredible food hall located at the bottom of this giant store. It blew me away the last time I was in London and knew he’d think it was pretty cool, too!
We ended up buying some macaroons to eat on the Ungerground on the way to dinner. We were pretty psyched about our dinner plans since a bunch of you recommended checking out Brick Lane and popping into one of the many authentic Indian restaurants for dinner one night. Such a fabulous recommendation!!!
We walked along Brick Lane until one restaurant stuck out to us.
Though it was quite crowded, we were able to be seated immediately and quickly ordered papadam to start.
I think this was my favorite part of the meal! We ended up ordering more and more papadam whenever our supply started to deminish! Topping the thin, crispy bread with the various sauces and toppings was a lot of fun and everything tasted delicious. We had a great time trying out various flavor combinations.
For our entrée, Ryan and I decided to share two main dishes between the two of us. I selected the tandoori prawns and Ryan ordered the chicken biryani and we didn’t leave a single morsel of food behind.
It was all incredible!!! Easily one of the best meals we had during our entire vacation.
And of course we also ordered Naan with our meal. This was the Peshwari Naan (coconut almond) and it was so incredible. YUM.
You better believe I will find my way back to Brick Lane for more Indian food if I am ever in London again!
I love all of the pictures of London. I’ve been there twice but not since I started reading historical fiction novels. Now I want to go back and visit all of the places I read about!
These pictures are fabulous. It feels like I’m right there! We just had some friends come back from London a few weeks ago and they said everything was fantastic. I have a friend who lives in Nottingham and I’ve always been amused by his stories – since we view London as such a tourist city and yet there are so many people who live around there. I’ve always thought living in such a cool place would be beyond awesome!
I love naan bread and that one looks so good.
We have a wheel here in Melbourne, Australia that is meant to be the same design as the London eye except when they built it they didn’t take into account our hot summers. So it was open for 40 days 3.5 years ago and they have been trying to fix it ever since.
What theater?
we saw one man, two guvnors (http://www.onemantwoguvnors.com/) at theatre royal haymarket. it was hilarious!
Sounds fun!
It looks like you guys are having an amazing vacation! I have a strong pull to visit London – I hope I can make it there someday!

london has such amazing indian food!there is a really good book called ‘brick lane’ by monica ali, you might really enjoy reading it after having been there.
If you want to try some authentic British Fish and Chips you HAVE to try Rock and Sole Plaice (47 Endell Street). It is the oldest fish and chips shop in London and has by far the freshest fish and best chips! One portion is enough to feed two people for lunch! (And try some vinegar on your fries, it is sooo yummy!)
Enjoy the rest of your vacay!
Second that. Amazing!
You are hardcore braving the weather this weekend! It was soooo cold out there, I spent the weekend curled up eating hot cross buns! Glad you are having a great time! Are you here for much longer?

Ohhhh fun! I lived in London when I was little, but hardly remember much at all. I want to go back!!! Have a blast 🙂
I’ve never heard of papadam. Is that a traditional Indian appetizer?

London sounds amazing! I have only been to Germany but would love to travel back to Europe to do a bit more exploring!
I just got back to the states two weeks ago and had been in England for a week! My boyfriend is from there/lives there currently while pursuing his golf career. We spent 2 days in London and seeing your pictures on the London Eye brought me back! Thanks for sharing.

Looks like you had a lot of delicious food and great times there!
You guys know how to EAT! 🙂 I love it!
That Indian food looks amazing! Loving all the holiday recaps…would you believe I life only across the water and I’ve never been to London!!
Your London photos look great! We went a few years ago and had only about five hours to spend seeing the city before we had to catch a bus to leave for a European cruise. We also had our luggage with us the whole time since we didn’t have anywhere else to store it. We looked like huge dorks and hadn’t showered or slept in two days. I think next time I go, I want to have a more “normal” London experience!! Looks like you guys had an amazing time.
droool….Indian food…..and omgness, I’ve never heard of coconut almond naan! I seriously am trying to picture that and guess on how it tastes but I guess I won’t know till I try it someday. Such a great restaurant choice! 🙂
Is it overwhelming to plan a vaca like this? i want to go to europe but i have no clue where to start i get so overwhelmed.
I am loving your recaps! I actually lived in a town just outside of London for 3 weeks, but was there to study for a very demanding program and never got to explore the city. I can’t wait to go back some day soon!! Thanks for sharing all of the details 🙂
Yum!! I’m not even a huge Indian food fan, but that all looks incredible!
It’s making me soooo hungry looking at that food 🙂
I’ve loved reading about your trip. I really want to drive around Ireland now!
Did you mean macarons?? If so I love those too!
