The moment the smell of the buttery garlic knots hit my nostrils, I was out of my seat and in line for some of the good stuff.
This garlic knot was doughy, salty and bursting with the flavor of garlic. I loved unraveling the knot as I ate. Playing with food is fun!
I also nabbed a super-cheesy slice of veggie pizza which I polished off in no time.
It was loaded with cheese and tasted fantastic.
For some reason (the salt, perhaps?), this lunch made me super thirsty. I chugged an entire 24-ounce tervis tumbler full of water without even realizing it.
I’m a fish!
I actually got up to get another slice of pizza, but it was all gone. I work with a bunch of eating machines!
Lululemon: What’s in a Name?
During the office pizza party, I was talking with some of my coworkers when somehow the conversation turned to clothes (shocking for a group of women, no?) and lululemon.
Before lululemon became so mainstream, I always thought you pronounced the company’s name like lulumon. I threw in a Jamacian accent for good measure. 😉
Well, apparently three of my coworkers thought the same thing! I think all of the l’s confused us and we changed the spelling in our minds.
It wasn’t until my friend Leah said the company’s name aloud that I realized it wasn’t lulumon, but lululemon…
Like the fruit!
Did any of you guys ever think lululemon was lulumon at one point, or were you just born way cooler than us and always knew the real way to say it? If three people in one office were confused, there must be others out there!
And, on another note, can you believe I’ve never even been in a lululemon store before? I’m told this must change immediately.
Back to work for a few more hours before playtime begins!
Mary Ann says
I was told the correct way to pronounce it is lulu-mon, because the brand is originally from Canada and is a French name. I’m from Washington state, and I’ve been to the stores in Canada where all the workers pronounce it that way too.
Amanda (Eating Up) says
Haha this is hilarious!
Ori says
I thought it was LuluMON until I read this post. Haha good thing you wrote this!
Heather says
Oh my gosh! I’ve always thought it was lulu-mon! Too funny! I’ve never been in the store either! It’s across the street from the Whole Foods that I shop at…I should totally go by there next time! I’m always hearing such great things about their line!
Avery (Young Aspirations) says
I LOVE that you did that! I thought the same thing! I pronounced it that way up until just a month or two ago. I have no idea why I originally thought that? Maybe all the L’s and U’s just threw me off? I don’t even remember how I found out about the extra “le”.. Haha, too funny!
Courtney (Pancakes & Postcards) says
i absolutely thought the same thing. lulu-lemon sounded like way too fluffy of a name! i was super embarrassed when i found out, but I guess its pretty normal…
Liz @ Tip Top Shape says
I’ve never shopped at Lululemon but I have been to some free fitness classes they hold at the stores. I’m lucky enough to have two stores within walking distance so it’s really nice to be able to go there and have a free class!
Amanda says
I thought the same exact thing until I heard it on tv one day not too long ago! Glad I’m not the only one 🙂
tammy says
Looks like you stole (borrowed) Ryan’s cup for the day huh!?! haha.. Love Lululemon if I could afford it.. I can only dream =) Happy Friday!
Mariela says
How funny, I’ve always called it Lulemon and didn’t realize it until I read your blog right now. I completely ignored the first “lu”.
Jessie says
That’s so funny! I am ALWAYS pronouncing in LuluMON and when I was reading your post I was sooooo confused! I guess my brain cuts out the extra ‘le’ 🙂
Jessica says
I learned it was lulu-LEMON when I called to find out the store hours and they lady pronounced it correctly.
Julie- you should go straight to the outlet b/c the store is PRICEY! (90-120 for a pair of yoga pants).
I have one pair from there (since I have a gift card) and do love them but I think you could find very similar ones for much cheaper!
Heather (Heather's dish) says
You know I found lululemon a whole back and thought it was such a fun name for the company! It’s just different, not your typical yoga or athletic wear name 🙂
Theresa says
I actually pronounce it as a hybrid of yours…lulu-le-MON-with a Jamaican accent! Or maybe thats French…
On a side note, your sweater just made me remember how much I loved it at the JCrew outlet, so… I bought it!
Thanks!
Madison says
You’ve got to check out lululemon! Their stuff is pretty pricey, but totally worth it. I have a headband, sportsbra and pants from them! The stuff is made so nicely and specifically for women who run, do yoga, etc.! Way cool!
Katie says
Hey gals (and guys?)
The BEST thing about lululemon is they have lost of GREAT community events. I go to their free yoga classes on Friday nights with friends all the time here in Denver. It’s hard to leave without buying or wanting to buy something but it’s a good 60-minute workout and a great (and cheap) thing to do on Friday nights with girlfriends!
Keri says
OMG I absolutely thought it was lulumon until I heard someone say it right!
Sarah says
hahaha i TOTALLY THOUGHT THAT TOO!! Although, i said it like that in my head, i don’t think i ever said it out loud until i heart how it was really pronounced 😀
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
I pronounces it lulumon, too!! It wasn’t until my yoga trainer said lululemon that it hit me.
Kayla says
I always thought it was lulu-mon too! There are no stores near me – which is truthfully probably a good thing.
And omg I want one of those garlic knots!
Emily says
haha this is hilarious! I used to work next to lululemon, but I thought it was lu-le-mon. My co-workers would always talk about some store called loo-loo-lemon and I had no idea that they were referring to the store next door!
I don’t have anything from it, but I am told that the yoga pants do wonders for behinds…I’m personally still debating if a nice backside is worth 90 bucks, or if I should just do more glute workouts!
Brooke says
I definitely always called it lulumon haha. You definitely need to go in…great athletic clothes!!
Danielle says
I had no idea how it was pronounced either – I’ve never heard anyone say it out-loud! At least now I know!
Erin says
I was shopping around Christmas at a furniture store and the lady helping me starting asking me about yoga (I guess I look like I do yoga?!? I don’t!!). Anyway she asked me if I shopped at “Lu-lu-lemon”?!
I thought why in the world is she calling it that?!?!? Hahaha I guess it was for good reason, that’s what it is called!!!!
Katy (The Singing Runner) says
I’m glad you posted this because I thought it was Lulu-Mon too… oops. 😉
Jane says
Ohhhhhh Emmmm Geeee!!!! Hahahaha I have always thought it was LuluMON I gave it that Jamaican twist to!
carlee says
Your office pizza looks so freaking delicious girl! Your really makin me want pizza now!
Tracy @ Commit to Fit says
Never been to lulu! You must go 🙂 The quality of their stuff is second to none. A bit heavy on the wallet, but they last forever. On a side note, I believe the company is called lululemon because they wanted a name with lots of l’s, as they are considered lucky in Japanese culture. (I may have to double check on that one, but I am pretty close 🙂
Courtney says
I FEEL LIKE AN IDIOT! I always thought it was lulu mon also!! hahaha Thank you for clearing that up!
erica says
now all that’s going through my head is “lulu mon” in a jamaican accent. thank you 🙂 hahha.
you must go to lululemon! i used to avoid their stuff b/c it was so pricey, but once i started, i’m hooked. i live in that stuff!
Trish says
OMG! I thought the same thing. For the longest time I totally was saying the name wrong. I am dying to get my hands on their stuff – I’ve yet to get into a store and want to go so bad! LOL!
kelly says
Well, that makes me feel much better b/c I was pronouncing it the same way until I heard someone say it differently. In fact, I think it was my husband!! Weird:). I have to remind myself how to say it now and I still think there are waaaay too many L’s in that word;)
Karen says
I thought it was luluMON until I just read your post. I really had no idea that it was lululemon!!! From the looks of all the comments it appears to be a pretty common mistake : )
Anna says
First, that garlic knot looks amazing! Second, I always thought it was lulumon until I read your post, lol.
Courtney says
Yep, me too. I even said it out LOUD, which is super embarassing. Mostly because someone who worked there kept asking me what I was saying, and then finally corrected me!
Also that garlic knot looks amaaazing!
Becca @Starting Over From Scratch says
I googled it one night because I thought it was lulu-mon too!!! I want pizza now….thank you!
Meg says
WOW well I feel dumb now, haha! I need to revamp my vocab … I really always said Lulumon too!
Carolyn says
The stuff Lululemon is pricey but it is super high quality and worth the money, if you can afford it, in my opinion.
I always knew how to spell it correctly but I pronouced it Lulu-lay-mon. Apparently i thought lay-mon gave it a more fancy ring than lemon!
Molly says
I like it the Jamaican way! Thought it was that way too.
Michelle says
Glad to know that I wasn’t the only one mispronouncing Lululemon. Lulumon is just easier to say!
I do think it’s cute they send their employees out to cheer on runners (well, they did for the OUC Half).
Danielle says
For the longest time I also thought it was “lulu-mon”…they should really change it to that, no? 😉 Hehe!
I didn’t realize my error until one day I was browsing their website (for like, the 1,000th time :P) and for some reason I noticed it on the logo and it clicked that I had been wrong all along. The horror!! Lol
Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) says
I knew it was lulu-LEMON for the past 5-6 yrs only b/c I live in San Diego and everyone here has the nicest yoga wardrobe…ever.
And so I hear women and other yogi’s discussing their latest lulu-LEMON finds.
As a yoga teacher, I cant afford it…I rock my target workout duds!
ashley@quasichick says
Thanks for clearing that up, b/c apparently many of us didn’t know how to pronounce it! I agree with Averia (comment above) I rock out the Target workout clothes b/c lulu-lemon is juso to expensive. But I do want to try the ta ta tamer 🙂
Crystal says
I did know that it was lemon… but only because as a yoga teacher it’s kind of like a rule to know! You should get to one of their stores, there stuff is amazing.. though pricey.. I personally like the “Wunder Unders”- pants which happen to be the cheapest…
Cassie @ A Very Busy Mind says
I thought is was loo-loo-leh-MON. So it’s loo-loo-lemon? Crazy. Had no idea.
Like several commenters, I rock the cheapo workout gear. If I had luluLEMON (ha) stuff, I’d never wear it to work out – I’m nast when I’m done with a workout; why would I want to wear something nice?
I would consider the ta-ta tamer, though.
Jamie @ Food in Real Life says
100% thought it was lu-lu MON. In my head I’ll still call it that no matter what! I would def check out the outlet, but the reg store is just too expensive! And you know 1/2 of what you’re paying for is that little symbol that is neither a lulu or a lemon.
Amber K says
I actually just learned that recently. Always thought it was lu-lu-mon. Personally I think it sounds better that way! But I have never been to one, I don’t think they have any around here.
Nancy says
lulu luhmon is how I used to say it. And I’m Canadian!! (Lululemon is a cdn company) – I should’ve known, haha
Jessica F says
I thought at first it should be ‘lulumon’ and then I re-read the name and needed to throw that extra ‘le’ in there. Instead of connecting it with the fruit I went the french route and in my head called it ‘lulu’-‘le’-‘mon’ where the ‘le’ is like french. Lemon is just strange.
Michelle says
Lululemon is one of my favourite stores!
Expensive, yes. But the quality of their clothing is amazing. And all of their stuff is so cute!
I have a pair of capris for working out and the classic yoga pants. I would wear them everyday day if I could haha. They’re soooo comfortable it feels like you’re wearing nothing lol
