Happy April Fools’ Day!
I wasn’t feeling too creative and didn’t come up with an April Fools’ Day prank for you guys this year (the year Sadie was “pregnant” was my favorite), but I am seeing some fun ones around the internet!
I must tip my hat to Visit St. Pete/Clearwater. I received a press release from the tourism group this morning that announced a sighting of the “long extinct” manaphin – a dolphin-manatee hybrid – off the coast of St. Pete last week.
Though they didn’t fool me, I still laughed and thought it was a fun prank. They even created a website for the manaphin! I love it when businesses have a little fun and do things like this!
Have you seen any awesome April Fools’ Day pranks so far this year?
Breakfast
As I read all about the manaphin, I dug into a plate of pancakes for breakfast.
I did a little experimenting in the kitchen and made pancakes with almond flour and quinoa flour. They were good, but before I share the recipe they need a little tweaking. The flavor from the quinoa flour was a little too dominant.
Even with the slightly funky flavor from the quinoa flour, I had no problem clearing my plate. Any day that begins with pancakes is a good one, right?
Have a great day and don’t let too many people fool ya!
Questions of the Morning
- What is the best April Fools’ Day prank you’ve ever seen?
- What is the best April Fools’ Day prank you’ve pulled on someone?
- Have you seen any fun pranks so far this year?
I’m never very creative with pranks for April Fools Day!
Hahahah the manaphin! WAY too funny. I’m keeping an eye out for jokesters out there!
hahaha love the Manaphin prank.
I never do pranks because I”m always worried someone will take them seriously!
I’m glad I read your post this morning because I had forgotten that it was April Fool’s Day. Hopefully now I’ll be more aware if anyone tries to pull my leg. 🙂
Any day that starts with pancakes is a good day in my book.
I forgot until I received the manaphin press release!
I haven’t played any pranks (or seen any!) yet this year but I’m trying to think of a good one to pull on my husband tonight 😉
I just saw a prank that I went as far as going to the store this morning to get stuff for.
Put a big bowl with Skittles, Reeses Pieces, & M&M’s all together in the breakroom… then I got to the store and thought… “Why would I spend my money on something that will most likely be wasted?”.
So I bought my self a large latte from Starbucks instead. 🙂
I Love that idea! Eating an m&m when you think you have a skittle is so much more shocking than one would expect

I am not big into pranks. But one year my coworker plastic wrapped my entire desk. Now that was a good one!
Can’t wait for the recipe!!!!
my brother replaced the cream inside of oreos with toothpaste! he’s bringing them to work today…. and my dad sprinkled red pepper flakes in my brother’s coffee this morning!
I totally forgot it was April 1st haha so I would have fallen for that Manaphin siting. Yum!!! That quinoa flour gives me ideas for baking!! Especially since The Boyfriend loves his quinoa!
I haven’t seen or heard one today! Usually my mum gets my dad with something funny but nothing this year! Think we’re all too delighted and slightly obsessed with the sun having come out!
The Mannaphin is hilarious! What a great idea! I haven’t seen any yet! My husband and i area always tempted to pull the whole, “we’re pregnant!” card, but figure we shouldn’t since it can be a touchy subject with some people haha!
I haven’t seen any fun pranks! But it’s still early so who knows! 😀
Here in Iceland the newspapers always write a story that is an April fools joke and everyone searches to find them. They have several stories that are deceiving so you never know what to believe on this day.
The manaphin!! I believed it for a second ha!!! Pancakes, I haven’t eat them in a while! Maybe it’s time to reach the kitchen and prepare them for dinner 😀
I wasn’t creative enough to come up with a prank either. But I love seeing them! I have seen a few blogger posts this morning that I’m suspicious of for sure!
I have quinoa flour in my freezer I need to use…I guess it’s time I search for a good recipe!
I’m totally sending that press release to my friend, I’m pretty sure she’ll believe it since she’s a huge manatee fan
A couple of years ago I took all of the utensils, plates, glasses out of my b-friend’s cabinets and replaced it all with plastic utensils, plastic cups, and paper plates. My senior year in college my roommates pranked me with an eviction notice. I was not amused! I skipped class and went to the management company to ask about it, etc.
I saw a good one over at joy the baker about being the best food blogger – some of them made me chuckle!
I have the same thing with Quinoa flour, it really dominates recipes! Look forward to the recipe!
That is a great joke!! I’m not a big jokester….I guess today while teaching Pump, (really early) I joked with them that we were going to do the Triceps track again. They were too tired and shocked to really laugh too hard though. hah!
As a born and raised Floridian (now living out West) I’m shocked to say I had not heard of the “manaphin.” That’s clever of good ole’ St. Pete/Clearwater. There hasn’t been any foolery in my morning yet, but the day is just getting started.
I’m pretty sure I’d eat anything relatively resembling a pancake if it were covered in syrup! Syrup always saves the day! 🙂
I’m really not a prank person at all. I think it has more to do with the fact that I’m not too creative and can never think of anything good. Ha!
I haven’t pulled any pranks, but our manager pulled a great one on my coworkers and me. He sent us an email saying he had accepted another offer and was leaving the firm. We were all really bummed because we love him, then realized it was, thankfully, a clever prank.
Those pancakes look really really good. I tried to make a batch out of coconut flour. They were like bricks. The almond and quinoa blend was a much better idea.
When I was in college, I had a roommate named Bethany, so one year for April Fools we changed our profile pictures to match and then changed our respective last names on Facebook (so like if my last name were Smith and hers were Johnson, my profile then read “Bethany Johnson” instead of “Bethany Smith” like it should have). And then we made a point of posting a lot and confusing all our friends. Hahaha. Good times.
Haha that’s too funny! I’m not big on pranks, but I get the same text from my mom reminding me of the day because I do always fall for pranks that other people try to pull off – dang it – so gullible!
i’m enjoying the pokemon on the google maps app, tho i don’t think it’s entirely and april fools joke, just something fun to do. years ago if you zoomed at google.com/moon it was made of cheese.
My friends father ALWAYS played pranks. One year he called all his friends to the exact same spot, saying he had a flat tire and asked them to come help (all individually). Low and behold, they started showing up in the middle of nowhere, all together…then they found out 😉 Haha
I’m not a huge fan of pancakes for some reason! I don’t love them. The flour just bloats me up. I do like protein pancakes probably because I use oats and not flour though. 🙁
My friends used to always be “moving at the end of the school year” and since we never had a new joke we’d just go to more and more elaborate lengths to make everyone believe it.
I’ve never really been a prankster and have luckily stayed away from anything too crazy in my life as far as april fools jokes are concerned! Couldn’t agree with you more that any day that starts with pancakes is a good day! We always have pancake Sunday’s in our house and I love experimenting with new recipes! This past Sunday was Apple Pie Pancakes! Yum! I’ll have to give yours a shot when you release the recipe!
I got an email from my local running store congratulating me on signing up for my TRIPLE Ironman! Haha I was relieved to open it and realize they were pranking me. 😉
No April’s Fools day pranks my way, but I did come across a very delicious breakfast that might be right up your alley.
Two words: Tiramisu Pancakes
Great looking pictures, Julie!!!
The Sadie prank was pretty creative — I gotta give it to you.
Excited for your pancake recipe! I’ve been trying quinoa pancakes recently and totally get what you mean, they’ve been great mixed with some oats and cocoa powder in there though 🙂
Im a jerk and pulled the pregnant joke on my husband a couple years ago….he hasn’t let me live that down. Everyday I feel like i need to watch my back!! I got out of the shower one time and he threw those little fire cracker balls at me and I thought it was war!! So. scared.
The morning show I listen to on my way to work in the morning had the best prank. They ran a commercial, started a website, and interviewed a fake guest which all said that motor boats would not be allowed on most MN lakes this summer because of the ice conditions we had this winter. I think people were starting to freak out because I saw that one of the newspapers had an online article about it being a prank. We love our boats in summer!
The Sadie April Fool’s was hilarious last year! I once pulled the pregnant prank on my mom… she wasn’t pleased with me!
I’ve seen a couple good blogger pranks this year but I’m getting much quicker at identifying them as the day goes on.
I had pancakes this morning too 🙂 Always the best way to start a day. Google had some fun pranks I saw on TechCrunch – http://techcrunch.com/2014/04/01/best-of-april-fools-2014-roundup-list/ check them out!
I live in the city with on-street parking, so I saved the envelopes from the two parking tickets I’ve received this year (sadface) and I’m putting them on my roommates’ cars. Muahaha! A big yellow envelope with “City of Rochester Parking Ticket” and an index card inside saying “April Fools suckaaaa”. Simple, yet effective. 🙂
Where can you purchase almond flour? I didn’t have luck finding it at my local supermarket!
When I got to the hospital this morning we were told there was a lice outbreak and and all the nurses had to do a certification course to become lice removers…my head immediately started itching, thank god it was fake!
The Manaphin is real people. Get with the program. I hooked one several years ago and cut the line in fear of being caught by Florida Fish and Wildlife.
