This morning was quite snacky. After my delicious breakfast of pumpkin protein pancakes, I was full, but a couple of hours later, I just wanted to snack.
Enter a chocolate chip brownie Larabar…
And endless handfuls of cheesy Chex mix.
Seriously endless.
When I start eating cheesy and salty snack foods, there’s no stopping until I’ve plowed through what seems like half the bag.
As for the Larabar, I’ve hated on these bars in the past and I think it’s because I only tried the fruity ones. Turns out the Larabars with chocolate in them are really good! Okay, so the two I’ve tried with chocolate in them have been delicious (chocolate chip cookie dough and chocolate chip brownie).
Lunch
By the time my normal lunchtime rolled around, I just wasn’t hungry from all the snacking, so I pushed back lunch another hour or so until I figured I should eat something.
It was smoothie time!
I made myself a peanut butter cup smoothie which totally hit the spot. I added an extra banana (totaling two frozen bananas) and another medium-sized scoop of peanut butter which made the smoothie extra thick and creamy and a little more substantial.
It tasted like dessert! Sadie was frothing at the mouth.
Master Bedroom Mission
Ryan and I are on a mission to find a new master bedroom furniture, including a new bed. (We’re using our old set in the guest room and our old guest room set is going to my sister for her new apartment.)
I am having a really hard time coming up with a vision for our bedroom. I know I want a bed that looks fluffy and super comfortable (lots of white!), but as far as the bedframe and the surrounding furniture is concerned, I’m at a loss.
I like the look of wrought iron bed frames like these two…
(Pottery Barn, you kill me.)
But then I also like the look of this bed frame that’s currently on sale through RueLaLa today and it’s completely different than the other beds I’ve been eyeing.
And then there’s this one… the clear front-runner.
Just kidding.
Decisions, decisions. At least our new couch and loveseat and dining room table and chairs should be delivered to our house within the next couple days!
If you savvy decorators out there have any bedroom inspiration photos you love, please feel free to link to them in the comments section of this post. I need ideas and Pinterest is failing me. The horror!
Question of the Afternoon
- What does your dream bedroom look like? Colors, style, type of bed, overall feel?
Kim says
I personally love the iron headboard look. We have one, and I don’t find it to be an issue since I don’t spend a lot of time sitting up in bed. Nothing a few pillows won’t fix.
However, I HATE footboards! I feel trapped and it makes the bed a pain to make. If you get a bed frame without the footboard, you will also save money!
Giulia @ Tutupa's Lab says
My dream bedroom would be blue & white with wooden furniture and a japanese-style bed… I think they’re called platform beds
Brooke @ Veggie Table says
Ahh I’m going through the same thing! We moved our bed into the guest room but haven’t found the perfect master bedroom furniture yet. We have a lot of black furniture but I think I want our bedroom to be more airy and fluffy 🙂 My friend, Ethan, is a creative furniture builder…he can really do anything so maybe you should check him out on facebook https://www.facebook.com/pages/Sawyer-Vinson-Art-Build/108907109172912?sk=wall

I seriously design my ideal home and rooms on a daily basis…even though I am at least 4 years from buying. Here are 3 of my favorite bedrooms from Ethan Allen’s “Elegance” collection. I love how bright, comfy but still sophisticated they are! (Just don’t look at the price tag, eek!)

This is the bed I have and it is GORGEOUS in real life…a canopy bed. They are so grandiose looking.

I have the black frame (king) with a white down comforter and a million pillows and am constantly getting complimented on it. Its not exactly what you were looking for, but sometimes variety helps make a decision one way or the other.
Melissa says
I love the idea of a big, white, fluffy bed. There’s just something totally luxurious and cozy about it to me. I am also loving just about all greys for decorating lately–especially the combo of grey and yellow. Loves it!
Ellie@fitforthesoul says
For bedrooms, or any room for that matter, I like it when the walls are light/pale green! I think it gives it a relaxing and open atmosphere.
Samantha says
I have a wrought iron bed frame that has a lot of decoration within it, and I love it! I’ll take a photo of it tonight and send it to you. My mom got it for me just last fall, so hopefully it’s still available. I’ll ask her for the details and send them your way too! In the meantime, this is a link to a small photo of my bed, but you can’t see all of the details in it.

Our bedroom furniture is dark brown with silver accents, and the bed frame is silver too – I found the wood frames and headboards too big and overwhelming. Our room colours are blues and beige, I think its my favorite room in the house and find the colors relaxing. Nothing too bright but more calming for me!
PS My favorite Larabar is PB Chocolate Chip!
Kelsey says
Type “white bedroom” into google images ..the endless amount of photos give great design ideas! I was the same way. I wanted a clean, white, fluffy, hotel-stay feeling.
Lauren says
okay so you are going to get all kinds of comments about which larabars to try, but I was the EXACT same way as you before. I tried the fruit/nut versions of Larabar and I was like um…these are no bueno. Then, I had coconut cream pie. Dude, seriously…I’m obsessed with coconut and this does NOT disappoint! They also have a chocolate coconut flavor, but I’m partial to coconut cream pie! Also try the pecan pie! (they need a pumpkin flavor! or pumpkin chocolate chip??!!!)
Cindy says
I know that you’re looking for advice on bedroom furniture, but I just wanted to recommend that you try the peanut butter cookie Larabar–it’s soooo good! And the peanut butter chocolate chip! I’m loving on those right now! 🙂
Shephalli says
I LOVE to do this – tell other people what to buy 🙂 I personally love the upholstered headboard look for master bedrooms especially in your case since it looks like you already have an iron headboard in the guest bedroom. You want the master to feel different and more like a retreat. With an upholstered headboard your options for bedside tables are endless – mirrored, wood, wrought iron or a combination. A blog I follow is http://www.homestoriesatoz.com/ and there are lots of inspiration photos/how to’s. good luck! Master bedrooms are the toughest to decorate since they are extremely personal spaces.
Leanne (Bride to Mrs.) says
I love love LooooooooooVE our master bedroom.
We have dark chocolate stained wood furniture (no footboard on our bed, just headboard), a lighter brown with beige detailing duvet cover (just the right balance of femine/masculine), our room is painted a really nice green & we actually made a focal wall that has stripes on it.
Our bedroom is my favorite room in our house, I feel so comfortable in there and love the ambiance. 😀
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
One day we will have a large king sized bed with a big headboard. I’m not a fan of footboards — mostly because I end up hitting them with my knees/legs as I walk around the bed. I like big wooden ones in mission style. I’d love to go to one of those Amish showrooms and get a bedroom set from there: I want 100% beautiful wood. (TWSS?)
Rachel @ The Avid Appetite says
I am currently undergoing the same dilemma. I am sooo indecisive! My husband and I live in a loft, so everything needs to be very modern looking. I’m determined to have most of it decorated by the holidays!
Amanda @thefunkybeagle says
Pottery Barn gets me all the time! I requested catalogs from PB, Ballard, Restoration Hardware, etc. to get design ideas. After searching forever for a new bed frame, I purchased one from the Canopy Collection at Wal-Mart. I love it! It was a great price and is extremely well-built and solid. Just what I was looking for.
Also, I think that RueLaLa one is awesome!
Lily says
I don’t know how tall Ryan is, but my partner is tall 6’3″, so all beds with foot boards that came up past the mattress were out. If either of you like to sleep with your feet sticking off the end of the bed–make sure you get a foot board to accommodate this.
Charlotte @ Weekends So Sweet says
Oooh… I love home design stuff!
I LOVE old wrought iron beds too but Pottery Barn is SO expensive so when we moved into our new apartment we hit up a flea market and bought this beauty for $300… Pretty good right?
I also bought a mirror and a bureau at vintage flea markets for cheap! You should check to see if there is one near you. Here’s a great DIY project I think you might be into if you want to clean up your jewelery display…

I love the metal frames, but since I am someone who tends to smash her head on the bead frame while sleeping, I’d go for the one from RueLaLa :P. lol

I LOVE the second one. I don’t really have a vision for a bedroom except that is has to have the ability to be pitch black and quiet.

Mine is close to that first picture you posted. I like a lot of soft blues and greens -very soothing. However my color palette for my master is going to be a pale green, navy blue and a yellowy-goldy color. I can’t wait!
Kim says
That last one reminded me of the bed in Arthur!! Go for a magnet bed!!! ; )
For my daugther’s new bedroom we found a bed metal framed bed on Craiglist for $100 and spray painted that black to give it a fresh look if you’re looking for wrought iron on the cheap.
That being said, go with the upholstered one!!! It will look so nice with white and fluffy pillows and blankets!! And so grown up looking!!
Rachel says
Oh, yum! The chocolate chip brownie one is my favourite Larabar!
I like the look of the second iron wrought bed and frame. My dream bedroom would be lots of neutral colours, stained wood furniture, and a big fluffy duvet!
Gia says
woah! you eat a lot of sugar! I guess all your runs iis really making you crave them. Remember to feed your body beans, legumes, rice, fish, etc. so that it does not crave that MUCH sugar… for breakfast and lunch WOW hehe
After all.. the more sugar you eat, the more your body will want it…right? 😛
Julie H. of Spinach and Sprinkles says
I’ve still never had a larabar…. I should probably try some of those dessert sounding ones! Mmmmmm!

Have you checked out Serena and Lily?

I am IN LOVE with that third bed! It looks like it would make the room look so cozy! To me wrought Iron seems cold….although in Florida that might be what you are looking for 🙂

When we get a new master bedroom bed, I really, really want a headboard that is soft or at least cushion-y to lean up against. I read in bed a lot before I go to sleep, and I want to be comfy without having to adjust lots and lots of pillows.
Kelly says
Our bed frame and bedroom furniture is from West Elm and our bed spread is from Pottery Barn. Our furniture is very dark brow and our bed spread is gold (but not tacky gold) hopes that makes sense.
Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie says
Your posts on home decorating have me so excited to graduate college and get to do all these “big girl” decorating things in my own place! Lets hope I get a good job so I can afford it! ;p

I adore the look of that second wrought iron bed. My bed is a queen size wooden sleigh frame. It’s big, substantial, and I love it!
Jennifer says
i have the pottery barn bed frame…i LOVE IT!
lisa @ tequilacupcakes says
Have you thought of making your own headboard? My fiance made ours with big piece of plywood that we wrapped in foam and batting and stapled. Then we found this beautiful tan suede on sale at a discount fabric store and wrapped the headboard in that. It just takes 2 hooks to hang it up.
It is amazingly easy and so cheap. And it looks great!!
Chelsea says
You MUST try the peanut butter chocolate chip Lara bar. You will never eat another kind again because you will live them so much. 🙂
Laura @ Meet Virginia says
I saw that hanging bed on Anthro’s website a while ago and actually kind of love it. The only problem is that there would be no way to sit up in bed. Uh, the other problem is that is costs like $3,000.
I’m with you, the Larabars with chocolate are my fav. A little tip for you – stick them in the microwave (out of the wrapper) for 12 seconds. Seriously, it will change your life.

Pier one imports website has really neat bed frames!

love the rue lala bed!
Olivia says
i like the yellow ruelala bed!! it’s so unique and the backboard looks much more comfortable to lean back against than the other ones 🙂
emlod10 says
i really have started to love simple, but unique headboards. You can even get one make that’s inexpensive and have it upholstered. They also look great with white linen (restoration hardware has the best..) It just makes the room! i like the 3rd the best!
Nicole @ Giraffelegs says
love wrought iron! it’s classic and you are less likely to get bored/hate it later.
Meg says
Oh! I just checked anthropologie and they have the CUTEST duvet covers. I like light, airy colors with interesting textures.
p.s. you’d be proud, I’m pretty sure I’ve gone through an entire tub of fresh pb in the last week! I’m usually not a huge fan!
Krista says
Hi Julie! Just for some insight…I love the iron frames, but the bed frame/headboard from RueLaLa looks a bit too much like a hotel bed (maybe it’s the sheets in that pic?). Just my opinion!
PS. I had a pb cup smoothie today and I wanna try your pumpkin protein pancakes tomorrow! DELICIOUS! (:
Lindsay@ In Sweetness and In Health says
Oh if only pottery barn weren’t so effing expensive! You should totally go for the hanging bed ;)…think of all the fun you and Ryan would have running and jumping on it and swinging back and forth haha. I’m not sure what my dream bedroom would look like because I always see things I like and then change my mind.
Oh, and you totally need to try the peanut butter chocolate chip larabar- they are my favorite!!
Kate says
i have that bed in the top picture! although, i only have the headboard….my bedroom is a little small so having only the headboard helps open things up. it’s not too uncomfortable to sit up in….you do need a pillow (or my “study buddy” — that’s what i have always called those pillow chair things), but i love the bed.
Nicki E. says
Hi Julie – West Elm has the most adorable bed frames. They are a little pricey but so worth it! I always have my eye on their headboards and frames. It is fun to browse anyway!
